[DEV][ROM]Crespo4g Stock AOSP 4.0.3 ICS reference images - Nexus S 4G Android Development

These are the 100% unmodified ICS AOSP IMG files. I hadn't seen any posted for the NS4G yet that hadn't been rooted or otherwise changed so I thought I'd post them on up for anyone who wants to mod the original pristine versions without having to go through the trouble of building them from source.
If you are looking for the non-4g version look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399980
Please use these at your own risk. i have tested them with fastboot on my own phone and as far as I have been able to test everything seems to work. I do not live in a 4g service area so I cannot say 4g works other than to correctly not connect to nothing. MMS does not appear to download correctly.

Thank you for taking the time to build.

You are most welcome. It was my pleasure. Can't wait to be able to post a fun rom as well.

I welcome and thank any contribution round these parts

An idea... ics tablet implementation? bottom status bar like in honeycomb with on screen buttons and disabled hard keys would be sweeet. Maybe even make the bar smaller than it should be with extra buttons? Lol

Don't disable the hardkeys! That's a waste, reassign them.

Bottom status bar shouldn't be a problem. I think that and the visibility of the soft buttons should be user settable so I'll see if I can't just add those into the preferences. I don't know why you would want to disable the hard keys but I'll look into adding that as a toggle too just for the fun of it. I'm sure it will come up some time in the process.
My first priority is going to be replacing those horrible cartoon icons. bleh.

That is a great idea. I'll see what I can do with that. Any suggestions for what you'd map them to? I never use the search button but use the other three all the time.

I agree the icons are ugggly. But the only reason I'd want the hard keys gone is for a nice area to grab on either side on the phone in landscape. That along with a honeycomb like status bar is my dream lol

There's a thread around here, a how to, forget where it is. Maybe general. Anyways there's a link in there with all the possible assignments.

[REQ] Port of WhiteMochi to Froyo/ACS.

My first post...been lurking around for a while.
I feel like this would probably be pretty simple for someone who knew more about what to do.
I tried flashing the zip, then tried using reframe.sh (through android terminal emulator) to reboot into just the framework, then tried editing the framework-res.apk by adding files and moving files to match other Froyo framework-res.apk files...but all of those things failed.
I didn't really anticipate my actions would have the desired effect, but I was trying.
I don't know what would have to be done. If it's simple and someone would be willing to update this for Froyo, I'd appreciate it. I think some others would as well.
In addition, if anyone could point me in the direction of some learning material for this kind of stuff, not just how to theme but also maybe some development guides for beginners, I would appreciate that as well.
Then I could just do this type of thing myself in the future.
Here's the link to an xda thread with WhiteMochi v0.003: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843204
Thanks in advance.
Think alot of themers on the Epic prolly got their start here using Dream's guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821638
Good luck man!
I'll do it.
Do you want the clear notication bar or the solid one?
I would like the solid one, if you could. Thanks a ton.
And thanks to both of you. Definitely gonna check out that guide.

Haha I didn't. But a good guide never hurts.
Do you want the lockmod installed along side?
What exactly do you mean by the lockmod?
My current rom uses the AOSP lockscreen by default so it shouldn't be an issue, right?

I meant maddoggins lockmod for EC05. It includes 6 different locks.
Oh, no. I tried to install it but was having issues getting it to work.
The one straight from the lockmod thread didn't work (FC when trying to view Lockscreen Settings), I found a working version in the framework included with the Nebula rom/theme but didn't like the status bar.
I was under the impression the WhiteMochi just used the AOSP, or were you asking for another reason?

Haha I can make you a version of nebula with a different colored notification bar if you'd like.
I'm sure it uses the AOSP lock. I was just asking if you wanted me to implement the 6 lock.
If you could get the 6lock in with the Mochi that'd be sweet, but it's not necessary for me.
Would be a huge plus though, hahah.
Still looking for anyone willing to possibly port this over to Froyo/SRF.
I'm mainly just looking for a white status bar without a gaudy notification pulldown and attractive icons.
I tried FrostPort v1.2 but personally disliked the status bar icons (all of them).
I noticed that the Galaxy Prevail (the new prepaid Boost Android phone) has a nice white framework, so even a port of that would be killer.
I read up on theming and I have a basic understanding of what to do, it doesn't seem overly difficult. Only issue with me is that I work 5-6 days a week long hours so I don't always have time to devote to studying up/getting in practice...especially as of late.
I have two days off coming up which I'll most likely wind up devoting the bulk of to learning how to theme (devoted my last two days off to my phone as well...don't know how to feel about that).
In the meantime, however...once again...if anyone is up to the task, have at it. I would appreciate it, and I know others would too.
I'd like to see this theme... Where can I see screen shots of the original theme? I have no knowledge of Android Theming or anything. But if there's a pretty good guide, and by pretty good I mean something that will SHOW me how to do it, then I could give it a try. But I'm more visual so a walk through that's text only won't help.
This seems like its AOSP straight to the bone seriously just use the AOSP ROM, whats honestly different?
When trying to flash it via Clockwork it says "Amend script was disabled in this version" or some such thing, and then says "Installation Aborted".
Using reframe.sh causes the phone to not boot (sticks on boot anim).

Glide Now Rooted...Now How About Mods?

So I don't have the phone, but I am interested, hence I have been following the whole rooting process, etc.
Simply put, as the phone has now been rooted, has anybody tried any of the standard Captivate ROMs yet? In particular, anybody try the Captivate ROM for Cyanogenmod on the Captivate Glide?
I gather it won't work seeing as how the underlying hardware is different (Hummingbird on the Captivate VS. Tegra 2 on the Captivate Glide), but who knows...
I'd try but I don't have the phone...yet
I am 99.9% Sure it will not work without any modification. The hardware of the glide is very different from the original captivate.
it will require different kernel at MINIMUM.plus hardware keyboard driver, open/close switch .... other drivers different as well...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the original Captivate never got an official gingerbread release from AT&T.
So my confidence in AT&T is pretty low.
Not really a full mod but someone who knows how to remove all the preloaded crap on it should release a clean rom.

Battery Icon mod.
I have figured out how to change the battery icon in the status bar to show the percentage. the phone is programed to only show in 5% increments, but it't better that guessing!
I have posted a MOD thread here.

Thanks.

Get this: NoLED
It's better than any notification light, and since our screens are OLED, only the icon area draws power. I've noticed no significant battery loss.

Hiding the Softkeys

This is a must feature that I NEED.
Does anyone know how I can make it easy to toggle it???
If that option is not available, is there a way I make it go away??? There are a few Roms I wanna try that doesn't support this feature.

That's not exactly what I'm asking. I know it does do that though. I have tried CM9, APEX, AOKP(current), Paranoid Android, Codename Android, and JellyBean.
I just want to know how I can do this(like remove the Softkeys entirely or create a toggle) when I find a Rom that looks interesting that doesn't support the feature.
I dont own the Nexus but on my Galaxy Tab I have Galaxy Task 14 rom and it comes with an called "Hide Bar". It hides the Honeycomb soft keys. You should give this app a try and I think you have to be rooted.

you named more or less all custom ROMs you will need to ask the dev to implement it, i think. don't that there is an app solution or sth like that.
Am I mistaken, or is this a feature that is readily available in certain ROMs? You're talking about getting rid of the Back/Home/Recents, allowing full 720p glory, right? I'm trying to remember.. I want to say it would definitely be a feature on Paranoid Android, where you can hold the power button to enable/disable the soft keys (it was one of the icons at the top). Hopefully this helps.. Paranoid Android is the way to go if you absolutely need some certain kind of crazy/abnormal setup. (I really want to use it more than I do.. until this phone no longer is my primary contact number.)

There are many ICS Roms that I wanna try(not switching to JB yet. tried it and I'll let devs toy with it more) that doesn't support it to "maintain" the experience of stock.
And I have seen that honeycomb app. It only works for Honeycomb.
On the LMT thread there is a full screen toggle app that let's you hide the soft keys with one cluck. Its called fullscreen. apk.

OK I found it but it doesn't seem to work for AOKP(I Know, it already has a toggle, just testing before I switch over).
Does it only work when there is no toggle built in???
EDIT1: NVM I figured out that u must reboot for the toggle to have any effect.
It works though.

Yeah it needs a reboot to work. But its the only option that works on jelly bean for now. If you are still on aokp then why don't you like the built in feature?

I'm getting irritated of all features in AOKP.
I don't know why but the features are really irritating me.
I've decided to go stock and move with the fastest and most battery efficient Rom.
The Redemption Rom.
And lemme tell u it's fast.
And actually I do use the built in softkey mod feature. Just fed up with the lags and many features(dunno why, I was getting mad though every time I used my phone).

Capacitive Buttons

Well to start off, my evo's soft buttons don't work. they light up and everything, but when I touch them, there is no haptic feedback, and they do not perform their function. However, the rest of my screen works. I've been working around this issue with various ICS/JB kangs that let me enable the nav bar. However, the only reason this is now a problem to me is that I've found a rom I want to stay on as a daily driver, but it doesn't have the option to enable the nav bar even though it's a cm9 base. I've tried to decompile the framework-res.apk and enable it in the bools.xml, but my lack of knowledge on how to create a flashable zip is keeping me from being able to use this correctly. I'm trying to implement this into the 1.3.1 update on team dirt's remICS-ux port. Will somebody please help me?

I asked about it in the thread a week or two ago, and Mazda said it could only be implemented as a flashable zip. Then, I asked if he had one,and never got any reply on it at all. Same here! And unlike most people, I love the TouchWiz ui. I think it looks amazing. But the fact that I can't use my home, menu, or back buttons keeps me from being able to actually use this rom. If i could get a copy of it with the nav bar, my flashing days would be over (or at least until I got a new phone ).

[APP][deprecated]erikalin-stock app for GB27 stock files

PLEASE NOTE: THIS APP IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED AS OF 12/31/2013. FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE USING IT BUT AS IS AND ON YOUR OWN. THANKS.
erikalin - stock app
No more longing for stock apps that the ROM developer removed as bloatware but you really love...
No more explaining to users how to pull a file out of that stock ROM and push to system...
No more needing to include those extra stock apps you really would rather not keep in your ROM...
One person's bloatware is another person's beloved Yahoo stock widget...
This is a lightweight app that has a simple UI in which users can go get whatever stock apps they want to download from my repo and push back into the custom ROM they are running. The app also has a Help tab that leads to a noob-friendly video help file 2:30 minutes long, which demonstrates how to download any stock ROM apk file from the repo and push it to system/app/, set permissions, and reboot.
INCLUDING THIS APP IN YOUR ROM BUILD
Permission is given for anyone to include this app in a ROM. You do not need to ask me in advance; just let me know. Here is how to do that. If you include this app in a ROM please do two things for me in return: (1) Post a link to your ROM here on my app thread to say you have included this app, and (2) Post a link to this thread in your OP with other credits.
Please keep in mind that I cannot provide support other than for the functionality of this app: a stock file repo and basic instructions for how to push apps into the system partition. People should continue to post ROM questions on the appropriate thread for that ROM.
Do not link directly to my file repo or my youtube video that is attached to this app. You can use this app, but please do not use the pieces I have hosted and created for this app. If my traffic log indicates that this is happening, I will have to take the files down.
Keep in mind that I do not monetize on youtube, so view counts mean nothing to me. And I am hosting all files for your use without any ad support. "Click through to the thanks button" is appreciated.
THANKS & CREDIT

Hey bud, ROM is not released yet. This is just an app I made to put into build-a-rom when I release, but I am sharing the app because if people check it out, they'll probably realize they want to bake it into their ROMs as well. Your feedback helped - made me realize that I needed to do this for what I'm putting together. Also, when I do release build-a-rom, you'll be able to keep your data and flash over the test build.

If you guys would want to include this app in your next deodexed ROM versions, go ahead and use it. Just give a link to this thread. I did theme this according to my own project, with the neon green on black. If you want, I can make a few versions themed to your colors. Specifically, where you see green on black in the app's landing page as well as the icon, I can make that whatever on whatever. Black on buttons and app icon could be transparent, but I do like my main background image in the app - it's a darkened screenshot from stock GB7 TW homescreen. Subtle, but pleasing because of the function of the app... but the neon green-on-black color scheme I could change for you easily enough. If you would like this, let me know your hex codes.
I'm going to wait to see whether I get some feedback to help decide if I should make a revision or if it's good out of the box. Fifty downloads so far, which surprises me for a little app on this thread. Either way, I can make a few versions themed for you... we are small in number in the ghostly E4GT forums... And seriously, I've got this handset for another year. If you do not want to include it or don't like it - no offense - just offering/sharing.
Who's gonna be first? Just kidding, looks good.
Edit: Really liking this, great job. Simple and useful at it's best.
Nice no more needle in a haystack search we like simplicity!!!
Very cool. It should be noted somehow that preload files will have to be dropped into system/app to prevent confusion because they will not run by themselves without a symlink. Two very nice apps in one day. This one and the repository app.

Lol. Kidding aside, I don't think I've ever done that in my life. Any job worth doing is worth doing well. I've been playing around with my build-a-rom project, which this is a part of. I hope to hear more feedback on this, make it better. Td - I will clarify the don't copy to preload thing. Good reminder which I will emphasize in v2, tyvm.

It's all good, lol, but you are correct. Erika Lin = "erikalin"
Anyway...
Today in between doing my real work I've also been thinking about how to improve this thing. 90 downloads in one day? Of my little app? In our quiet little forum? I'm glad people are checking it out, so I'll do right by it. I have some initial ideas:
(1) Theme in a few different colors, build them and name them by color scheme. I'd be theming the font color, buttons, and the app icon's colors. Like I said, I do like my app background image so that's staying. Darkened screenshot of stock JB, it makes sense. If anyone says there's interest, I'll make a few different color schemes for v.2. Give hex #s if you want. Honestly, I'm not at a loss for how to spend my time, so if there's no interest I'm fine with my just using original color scheme.
(2) Make sure to clarify push apps to system/app/. Thanks again, td, for reminding. I'll reword the main activity page's description and it will be clear.
(3) Verify that bluehost.com really means unlimited storage and bandwidth for my hosting accounts. I do have several websites on that account, and since I'm now using one of my extras for putting E4GT files on... I can't let it put my regular websites at risk. I will investigate though. If I can host more stuff legitimately with my account, I will consider suggestions for how I might add to this app. I am no expert in java, but can probably handle tabbed navigation, or swipe screens, to different purposes. I will think about this, and consider ideas. The beauty of it is that it will add almost nothing to the weight of the app itself, because all resources are accessed via browser, youtube, whatever. To be clear, I do not want to recreate bilgerryan's fine work with the one stop shop. That's not happening. If I expand on this it will be within parameters... Might just fine tune and keep it the simple app I intended it to be too.
(4) Who is downloading this thing? Lol. You 90+ people, please give me quick feedback. :good:
Edit: I just saw this:

Lol... And Go Coast Guard, my sailor brother. Did we not have this conversation? Five armed forces in the U.S. Five. I get my 10% off at Lowe's like every other veteran.

Sorry shipmate. I could not hold back any longer. Sorry Now I need to play around with this some more. Some fine tunning. I am toying with trying the toolbox app. Would this work with "JV"?

You're playing around with the test build of my ROM, and putting in the apps that you want. Just my app here? It works for any deodexed stock GB27 TW ROM, of which JV is one. The app is essentially a file repo - all the stock ROM apps. You like the inverted and themed apps, so you probably wouldn't need this app of mine. It's just a way to get stock apps that are missing from any one custom ROM, without a developer having to keep a bunch of the stock apps in the ROM. Win win. I might add to this app somewhat, or I might make a second app with other ideas, both apps being made primarily for my build-a-rom project.
ROM Toolbox ("RTB") is, I think, one of the most valuable apps out there. It's good to use with any ROM and has a lot of useful features.
