HELP!! Email text and background color. Really!!! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

The background is black and the text is dark grey. Cant see it in daylight. How do i make the background white and text black like normal people would want the app to function.
How could a company think this is acceptable? Really!!!!
Thanks,

If you are talking about the list of all the emails, I have never had trouble seeing it in the sun. There is another thread asking for this as well. Check and see if they have anything yet.

First things first! Your a moron. This is a Samsung issue not a Google or apple issue. I have owned over 20 android devices since the OS debut because as of now Android is the way to go for phone customization. If i could stand apple products i would probably own an iphone. Up until Windows Mobile 6.5 nothing could beat a windows MOBILE phone for customization. Then microsoft made there own version of the iphone and called it windows phone. For right now though Android is where its at. Im a technology whore. I will jump for cell phone company and OS/device manufacturer as the best become available. As for you fanboy the first thing that pops into you little brain is patent lawsuits. I asked a question and you dont have an answer. Thanks,

Is it me or does Windows 7 look cr*p?

Basically ive been watching videos and previews and all that stuff and I thought this looks boring its just an iphone rip off, I liked windows mobile 6.5.x and stuff because of the high customization and Sense/Manila, Windows phone 7 is so clinical and boring and whats with hat programs menu that doesn't look good its boring list WOW to be honest id rather have my TyTN II back maybe the games will be good... SO! you'll have to have a good job too afford them.. im sorry Microsoft had a very different and exclusive mobile OS to be honest I think theyve ruined it.... Rant over and Android here I come.
Thanks for your opinion, further changes will take this into consideration

For the record, the Metro GUI has NOTHING similar to the iOS GUI except maybe the software keyboard.
The entire user experience is fundamentally different from anything out there. The panoramic experience is brand new and fresh... there are no analog effects at play. The GUI is 100% digital in inspiration and implementation... no faux glass effects or stupid animations unless app developers decide to implement them.
If you can look at a video of it running and not see a difference from say Android or iOS, you're delusional and are probably better off with a piece of homogenized Apple garbage.
God, I hate people like you that talk without thinking.
actually I see what he's saying. I believe the UI cannot be customized much like how iPhone can't really be customized, and even with the apps that you can make for windows phone 7 you have to use the same kind of UI unless you are developing a game (as far as we've seen) I think the problem stems from the fact that Microsoft has mad a lot of radical changes that make it more like a iPhone clone than an upgrade to the windows mobile that we all know and love. Windows mobile originally looked to be on par with the way Android worked. Now it looks like they are going after iPhone but an iPhone of 3 years ago than the iPhone now.

Ok shut up, I meant its turning into the iPhone ui I.E. black background with random icons I meant to say the homepage no need to cry about it. From my mothers Basement??? Hmm I hate my mum and am not living with her + I am 16 you cant expect more from me I left school 11 weeks ago and am attending a 9-5 course I have also just passed a lifeguard course... Oh and I don't have a basement so... ummm, fail, you idiot, I also said "is it me" A question so you should have told me I was wrong not? Plus it was my opinion I wanted other opinions not a load of Sh*t from idiots. Oh and I said "like" I can see a difference otherwise I wouldnt be saying time to go to Android or I prefer WM 6.5.. well done hard man...
God, I hate Fan boy idiots like you who talk a load of ****.
Hmm why not try saying no it is not like the iPhone os and explain it no need to have a go at people for having different opinions and/or being wrong and as you say some of it is different to the iPhone ios crap but it is becoming very similar in certain ways. If I get banned for what I just said then oh well, wouldnt of said it if I didnt receive rude responses.
xcom923 thank you for being polite. Thats exactly what I meant by turning into iOS its just not really customizable ok people will jailbreak it but a background wont really look good, you cant see it theres boxes in the way. Thanks xcom =)

Calm down, or leave. Soon enough the mods will see this and sort it out if it carries on.
There is no need for that sort of attitude at all.

Iridox, he was just voicing his opinion, I sort of think your reply was a bit on the hard side.
I agree with what your saying, fundamentally. I can not stand the look of WP7. I wouldn't say it looks like Ios, but I agree its going in that direction, i.e. closed.
I, forone will not be buying a phone running it.
Can we PLEASE not turn this into a flaming thread.
There is enough of them.
Wp7 basically looks great.
Seriously, does anyone think Window Phone 7 looks good? It looks crap
While under the hood WM7 might be really cool and flashy (or flashless imho) I'm no fan of the light blue squares on the home screen, yes they are functional but I think for all the bling behind the scenes they could have been a little more on the creative side, heck even circles would have been a step above the blue square.

Not my words, but a good point:
"Why doesn't WP7 have a beautiful enertia/page scrolling like the iPhone. Why does clicking or touching on a 'tile' makes the other tiles slowly fades away one by one instead of having a different navigation metaphor...this is such a bad navigation design and is even bad for the eyes over time... MS should take care of the core fundamentals.... a very fast, snappy and responsive UI with efficient scrolling. In all the demos, the tile or icon doesn't respond to touch in a consistent manner and have to be touch 'multiple' times before it works... If you can't demostrate the you perform the core well, why should anyone care? You can call anyone an MS Hater all you want, but at the end of the day, the writer has a point and those flaws are very obvious, and all you know that.
At the end of the day, what makes Apple iPhone a hit has to do more with a pleasing and beautiful UI (icons, ects)... than xbox, sharepoint,.. those square Hubs are so ugly... and MS idea about theming is giving the hubs different colors?"

I could be wrong, but it should have enertial scrolling. One thing I like about the scrolling is the 'rubber banding'. If you scroll too far the text area compressed and then snaps back when you release. At least my zuneHD does and from every account people are suprised by how snappy the UI is.
With the UI as a whole it seems to be hit or miss. Those open to change seem to love it but those who want more of the same seem repulsed.
For me, I'm looking for something different and I like it. If you want icons on a grid then go for Android or iOS, simple as that.
So you prefer tiles on a grid?

Wow, that was a quick reply. The tiles aren't static. They are a cross between widgets and icons.
The UI tries something different and I at least find it refreshing.

Im not sure what videos that person was watching, but of all the video's i've seen (ENGADGET REVIEW VIDEO INCLUDED) every reviewer has said how snappy and fast it was. The videos made that apparent as well.
So my opinion greatly differs in that aspect.
Until i have a phone in my hand i wont know for sure how much i really like or dislike it.
One thing i've noticed that is a flaw in my opinion is the ability to quick switch between "Hubs" or apps. You have to go all the way to the home screen and THEN open an app. You are unable to somehow quickly switch.
I assume a lot of these issues will be fixed within the first 6 months after release.
No it's not just you.

And now no tethering?

So, then, why would anyone buy this?
I can't tether. I can't automatically record all phone calls. I can't file explore.

I like the ads. They're pretty good as an introduction to the platform.
Remember, most people have no clue that WP7 exists and is coming out soon. For us, this stuff is old news but you have to spoon feed consumers. If you jump straight to specific features and hardware, people will miss the point that this is a whole new platform. Once these sorts of basic ads are out and consumers are aware of the new Windows Phone's existence, you build on that and show off features and hardware.
I can already see an ad where the person is flipping through the interface, typing on the screen, and then in the last few seconds, flips out a physical keyboard and types something snarky.
Then some other ones showing off XBL gaming, Zune, etc. So much opportunity here for some pretty awesome ads. The more detailed ads will come in due time. They're just getting their feet wet. Google and Apple have a lot to be afraid of.
You make a good point, and I know this is the early stages as more will come. BUT, I have to be a jack ass and point out this great commercial.

I'd also like to point out how they're branding it. Notice... they're not saying "Windows Phone 7". I have been critical of the naming but I figured a while back that this is how they would brand it and I'm glad to see that they are. Noone cares about the number really. Many people will think it's 1.0. So instead of telling your buddy that you've got a "Windows Phone 7 phone" or something awkward like that the convention will just be to say "I've got a Windows Phone". If they actually know that WM6 existed (many people don't) they may ask "the old one or the new one" and you'd respond "windows phone 7". It's the same as someone saying "I've got an iPhone". They wouldn't say "I've got an iPhone4 phone". Or "I've got an Android 2.2 phone". It's just "Android" or more likely "I have a Droid". Man does Google have their branding all mixed up. I'm surprised this hasn't caused more of a problem than it seems to be. People just call every Android device a "Droid". Just imagine if Verizon didn't launch that ad campaign. Advertising matters, a lot.
Right again, WP7 the name has nothing to do with WM. Windows Phone is brand new, I forgot what the 7 actually means.
Most people I've seen with Androids don't know or just don't care what version they have.

Video chatting has been around for years. I felt like a douche doing it then. People looked like douches doing it then. And nothing has changed.
I'd love to stick with Microsoft products for mobile devices, but I have requirements since finding out what I can truly do with my Touch Pro 2. Imagine recording every single phone call in and out of this phone. Android doesn't even do that. It's been such a treat to have all that data.
So hopefully by the time I'm ready for a new device, WP7 will be ready to meet the standards.

tbh I don't think that Apple made it look more amazing than years ago, when Video calling was new.
I also haven't seen someone acctually using it more than, let's say once a year. It's really uncommon and not a point worth advertising. Even if WP7 doesn't support it (idk if it does), noones gonna miss it and point it out, except maybe Apple fanboys that think that "FaceTime" is totally awesome just because it's Apples idea

A lot of good Droid commercials don't show any real phone features either. Unless changing your arm into a robot arm is a feature of a droid, or having circular lines shoot out of your phone .
They just show cool futuristic themes and graphics.
But the commercials do show a "feature" of the phone. They're trying to build an angle for their marketing. The angle/feature being that they want to advertise that you can consume content faster on wp7 and you're not a slave to your phone...whether it's true is irrelevant, but that's the advertising campaign they're pursuing.
Robot arms were for the new keyboard. Lines shooting out of the phone was showing the wifi hotspot capability.

no it wasn't, there is no kb on the droid x...it was a vessel for that phone to come out of (I'm talking about the droid commercial they show in theatres). The commercial had nothing to do with droid other than it appearing at the end. It's just something futuristic and mysterious.
There are lots of droid commercials that don't sell a feature. They just sell the image of droid being advanced, being "scifi".
^oh, I haven't seen one at a theater. My bad.
The one that didn't make sense to me was the Stealth Fighters one. Airplanes dropping boxes on the ground, with Droids in them didn't make sense to me

I'm just saying, the point of a commercial is to introduce something memorable and to tie that recognition to a product. It's not an infomercial where you always sell features. It's a 30s effort to make something stick in someone's mind.
Take coca cola commercials...they don't always tell you how good it tastes. They have a lavish commercial and give you the impression that coke brightens your bad day.
Look at Geico...they have 25s of random nonsense with a gecko...then just say the line, "saved money on car insurance".
MS is going for a similar approach...they don't try to prove that wp7 "makes your day easier" they just say it does and try to imply that it is less of a hassle.

This is a very sad state of affairs tech industry is in. There are so many great technologies out there that disappear without a trace simply because companies can't present them properly to general public. You have to wait for Apple to take the idea, distort it by putting in a walled garden "ecosystem" and make a simple interface that an average Joe can get without getting scared by options, settings and multiple ways of achieving the results.
I can only pray that Apple TV doesn't take off to kill development of DLNA.

Well I have faith in our community of developers. If MS don't make it so people can tether, eventually one of us will.

I love WP7 but isn't iOS 5 The Ultimate OS?

Looks like Apple is taking what people love about every other OS and mashing up into one. That's just brilliant!
Sure they're copying plenty of stuff but the end users won't care as long as their phones do everything they want. Any thoughts?
I dislike the title of this thread. Espeically in a WP7 forum. If they are "copying" then it just shows how good the people are they are copying it from. iOS needed to keep up with the latest standards and its good to have competition.

Wow, are we not adults here? Can't we talk about what's good about an other OS? Really, wow...
that's just it save from notifications and text only browser, a lot of things are offered in wp7 mango natively...so what's the point? I mean the main problem I have is that apple is still app centric. Yes its finally doing a lot with regards to integration, but is it enough? I'm not sure
I don't mind having a discussion on this I bought my sister an ipad so the ios info is good for me to know...
In many ways it seems that apple has finally caught up to microsoft and google in terms of OS integration and consumer demand...only took 4 years
imho the notes system looks cluttered and gimmicky
lol
I saw the title of this and came by, really from my reading on this apple didn't show me anything that wp7 doesn't support natively or will. Its good they updated their approach keeps people on their toes but your title is wow.

What is the ultimate m8??? The trend and the fashion ..not technology and inovation !!!
New new future presented today by Apple
1. The present today a camera button as a big news... OMG
2. The presen icloud as something new ...Guys skydrive or dropbox are on the market for some time now
3. The present today the notification system ...Woowww this is realy a breakthrough.
This is Apple guys...
Dont forget last year the told us for the fisrt time that there is something called copy paste and multitasking....
They are good ...but only on marketing and on creating trend and fashion...
I gotcha P
I have owned every major phone OS (Smartphone) in US, and WP7 just works for me I have had android and IOS both are great at what they do give me apps that do what I need at that time. Now to touch base with a couple of things we are all wrong in the respect of what is better for this guy is better for that. Everything is based on perception on how it feels to the consumer, and most comparisons on phone stuff is based on what someone shows us at a given time. I pleaded my case with Windows Mobile time and time again when I was with ATT and then the new Phone OS came out with features I already had, the biggest is (tethering) but people tend to go with whats cool and who is using what. Apples biggest advantage by far is accessories I buy one and it works on all my iphones, ipods, etc that is the only advantage I see apple having right now. (I hope this is still on topic I jabber alot)
Alright, can a mod just close the thread please, I can see where this is going...

Actually, Copy Paste is there sincer iOS 3. 2 years from now. But I think they copied exactly Android. In a beautiful way, of course.
Still, I prefer Mango than iOS 5 (;

I see what your saying about the iOS so know that one person fully agrees with you.
I don't see a problem with them copying anything? Really, what they are copying is exactly what they needed to make a well rounded OS. It would be very foolish of them to just look at what they need and push it aside. I say, iOS 5 is gonna be insane.
I would also like to add that I kinda predicted their new notification system in another thread on here. And yes, I do want a cookie
There's a lot of stuff WP7 Mango does that ios doesnt do- Threads that integrate your SMS, IM's, Facebook chat, People hub where you can see your history with a person including calls, texts, pictures, bing extras, local scout, native Office, Xbox live (8 new games here http://www.winrumors.com/8-new-xbox-live-enabled-windows-phone-7-games-revealed-at-e3/), IE9 with hardware acceleration - looking at ios5 I cant think of anything that it now has that really trumps Mango.
apple added features from other OS's but even then WP7's integration is second to none and still comes out on top for me.
I don't see much difference in terms of features between iOS5 and Mango (there are areas where each one is better than the other), but that's certainly bad for Mango. It's not enough to have feature parity with the leader to beat it, especially when media calls iOS5 "massive" and Mango "underwhelming".
I understand the sentiment and agree but dont think the title gave the thread much chance..
If its the ultimate there is no reason for anyone to buy any other device.
One thing is good though - it'll be much easier for Microsoft to explain what Windows Live is. Their Marketing and PR people should commit harakiri, I think. One cannot live with such shame.
Off topic: Windows Mobile had copy and paste and Multi-tasking since forever. So I don't know what all the praise for iPhone is/was all about. I also believe what Microsoft really needs to work on is their Marketing department. I think that's just where Apple beats them.

iOS5 looks like a cracking upgrade for people who already own iOS devices, or are heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. It's fan service, rather than something that will bring in new customers by the droves.
I've got to say though, it does tempt me back towards an iPhone. If they had a Zune Pass style music subscription service I might have made the jump with the iPhone 5, though there's a few other features I'd like to see. WebOS-style linking between phone and tablet for a start.
Mango looks like a stronger update, but starting from a weaker position. Microsoft also seem to lack a real platform currently. They've got lots of small projects going on, but it's a bit disjointed. My Windows Phone, Windows PC and Xbox 360 don't really play nice together and I'm yet to see a Windows Tablet that I want to buy. Windows 8 needs to hurry up...

Apple Gets Patent on Multitasking...

Title says it all. This is getting out of control.

The people I'm upset are are the idiots granting the patents
Something I've been able to do since I've had the blackberry.
All this **** they are patenting is so trivial to technology that I think other companies never bothered. Soon enough they will patent pooping with a smart phone and we'll all be doomed.
Other articles clearly state it's the exact arrangement of techniques and interface that would be defensible, not merely multitasking. Someone would have to copy pretty much the exact full layout and procedure for it, not merely multitasking. Not reason to get worried beyond Apple likely going after anyone who's copied their interface too tightly. So outside of maybe Meizu, no major worries.
It's frigging ridiculous with all these companies suing each other. Half the time they are partners anyway-for example, Samsung supplies chips for the ipad-so I think a lot of this is driven by lawyers, who are the only ones who always win regardless of how the rulings go.
So yet again Apple takes something everyone has been doing for a long time and slaps a patent on it.
Hold down something to bring up a menu, select the program/function, switch. Repeat to return to previous or different program.
Everybody take a deep breath this isn't what you think it is...
It is actually for changing the interface of the app you are using while in a call (adding a notification bar at the top), not just changing to an app while in a call.
From what I understand is that Android doesn't have to even think about this since you can see the notification bar almost all the time and is a part of the OS no the App anyway and that's what Android generally uses.
Really what Apple patented it was the ability to screw with an app's interface while on a call.

Exactly, from the article:
"modifying the corresponding application user interface to include a switch application icon that is not displayed in the corresponding application user interface when there is no ongoing phone call"
Either display the switch icon outside of the second UI or have the second UI include the switch icon all the time - at least two ways to design around this patent, and as others have said unless the interface is copied exactly, there shouldn't be any issues... I hate it when articles summarize an issued patent using the broadest interpretation possible based on some part of the title...
I like to browse or use apps while on a call, by simply hitting the home button. Apple is specifically doing this to go after android and the companies who make android phones. We should be worried and oppose.

If that were the case, their patent would reflect that. It doesn't. It's nothing like how Android does it.
Just like the patent they got on being able to tap on a phone number from an email message and dial it. I was able to do that with my Treo well before the iPhone was even a glimmer in Steve's eyes.
It's just stupid they are getting these. I thought any prior work voids these things?
They call this one the 'we finally figured out how to do this too!' patent.
Time for google go bust out some moto patents and force apple to remove cellphone functionality from the iphone.
'youre a barista... you bariste for a living...' love that commercial...
If it's that easy to get patents, maybe Google should play Apples silly game and put a patent on answering the phone.
Like I said innoff topic, its like Coke suing Pepsi for using carbonated water, and Coke winning. When carbonated drinks were around before both products were ever produced. Epic fail with this patent system. Its lost its purpose.
When the patent office has a display honoring Steve Jobs, obviously impartiality does not exist.

Good one! But true! Im losing respect for apple in general. They arent really all that innovative. They're kinda like P Diddy, they just remix tech instead of creating new!

The patent in question was filed by Apple in 1996, before your Treo was a glimmer in Handspring's eyes. I made the same point you did elsewhere and got corrected. The patent's age makes it valid, but others have pointed out it should still count as an obvious function.
Apple so badly wants to be the best they're trying to cripple the competition. Apple and the fanboys claim to be "best in the world", but they're trying to be #1 by default instead of #1 by design. If you're the best prove it, don't cry to the teacher saying that someone else is stealing your science project. Buncha damn crybaby apple fanboys. I still think it's funny that they're not messing with google, just the hardware manufacturers.
I still don't understand why apple is getting away with the drop down notification, clearly an android feature. Im afraid that Apple might try and patent that as well if Google sits on their hands.

Can Google even patent an open source project. Google has open sourced Android, Apple could literally rip off the whole OS.

looked fine until the highlights showed internet exploder, image search, and finally "windows" in the name. then, it just felt outdated, stale.

any negative criticism on the wp boards means folks call " troll " within two posts. the weakest defense is name calling, or attempting to side track with arguing instead of seeing the statement for what it is.
the point was the features touted are dated, commonplace, boring. show me features that no one else has. you know, something besides some new Facebook or twitter feed.

I see lots of room for improvement instead of ignoring the issues, or pointing fingers at some other os as a distraction.

one can argue that the idea of a promo video is to promote the product to new consumers, there for, it should cover old features if they are a selling point, I too know all that was brought up but in not the target audience I suspect
