The "w" key on my Touch Pro2 requires a hard press in order for it to register. Can you direct me on how to resolve this? Is the keyboard easily replaceable or is it glued to the circuit board? Could it be dust?
This is strange, as I hardly ever use the hardware keyboard.
The bad news is that the keyboard interface is intergrated into the main board (glued on). You might be lucky and the W on your keypad might be missing a little of it's rubber under the key. You would then be able to change the keypad and fix the problem. You would have to take the phone apart to check under the keypad. With just the W having a problem the keypad would still be usable, but you do have the software keyboard.

That's what i was worried about. How unfortunate. I barely use the keyboard... Could it somehow be dust?

I would say no to dust being the problem. I would think if there was something between the keypad and the keyboard it would make the W more sensitive.

Yes, this would make sense considering that the photos I looked it makes it seem that the click mechanism is sealed off like a blister.
Perhaps sticking a piece of electrical tape in there would make it more sensitive!
Still thinking about how to fix this. any more suggestions would b great.

Hello Guys,
Just brought mine yesterday. I have this clicking sound when i tilt back the display flat in order to slide back into the phone body...Is this a mechanical problem or just normal.....Hoping to find a peace of mind...
Feihong
You have found your peace (got the same click as well).
Cheers, Dela
Yeah, it's supposed to do it! I think it's an improvement over the Kaiser, as you won't try to slide it in unless you hear the click to confirm it's shut properly, so it's less likely to get damaged.
I get the same click, it sounds a bit destructive at first and had me worried!
On a similar theme, has anyone noticed the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the body is awfull exposed and vulnerable? It's safely hidden away on the Kaiser.
The ribbon cable is hidden under the black belt (movement restrictor) that you see when looking from behind of the screen
joining in the confirmation fun here. I click as well but i prefer that click
Tilt a little loose
Hello,
speaking of tilting I have another question. When the screen is tilted, it's a little "loose", it moves forward and backward for 2,3 millimeters .... only mine?
Thanks

I have a hardware question, where is the sensor located that knows if the keyboard / slider is in the open or closed position?
Fixing a friends touch pro 2 that was pretty bad off, I have everything back to normal EXCEPT it is constantly stuck in Landscape and a ROM flash / hard reset / soft reset is not working.
This phone was out of warranty and my buddy basically said to fix it or he was going to throw it out in the trash. I couldn't let that happen and dumped 150$ worth of parts for a new flex cable / digitizer / lcd.
the ui orientation id is what flips it with the keyboard, htcs g sensor (sensorsdk4) is what controllers is when doing it by accelerometer. i would recommend a hard reset and see if that fixes it. if not, its most likely hardware and you might be screwed.
Keyboard slider is by a magnet. I believe it is in the area of the stylus hole. If you slide out the keyboard and go landscape, you can take a strongish fridge magnet and put it on the underside of the screen near the bottom center and the screen will flip back to portrait.

Thank you for narrowing it down!
ah yeah i remember that. i swear old htc slidey keyboard devices didnt use magnets like that, but oh well.
Update: I have used a magnet to get the phone to switch from landscape to portrait, however this does not work on its own. It is possible that the magnet was lost during disassembly, Any suggestions to get this phone working 100% again? Anyone know of a replacement part or any further information on how to remedy this?
I have no idea what size magnet you need, but I can get you some very small strong magnets if you need.

I have the exact same problem after replacing the flex cable, digitizer, and LCD. I have no clue how to fix this problem.
Same problem...changed lcd, digitizer and flex cable.....and now phone is always in keyboard open position......
+1 Here, same problem I lost a few pieces perhaps one of them was a magnet
Is there a program that we can use the Accelerometer (G-Sensor) to let the screen tilt??
No fixx yet? Please someone
Put a 0.2 x 0.2 cm magnet (I used the magnets that are holding DVD laser lens) on the underside of the main board, glue it right on the middle of the silver band you can see between the stylus and the mini USB plug.
Some boards have audio plug some not, the magnet must be placed at same place.
Has anyone tried this yet and does it work? I have the same problem with my TP2 after replacing the flex cable, digitizer/touch screen.
Let me know.
Thanks
Rob
Yep I tried it just now and it WORKS!!!!
Thanks so much for this photohelp. Very handy.
Mine problem was not lost magnet, but replacable housing. I bought complet housing (all plastic parts) on eBay and it fits nicely. Problem is, the magnet in this housing was too weak. I brought the old housing from bin where I threw it away after assambly and replaced the new magnet with the old one.
WORKS LIKE A SHARM!
Hello,
I dropped my Touch Pro 2 in fresh water. No insurance of course and no more discount from T-mobile to buy a new phone.
Following video instructions on youtube I disassembled it, I believe without breaking anything.
The LCD screen was gone (water inside), and I bought a new one in eBay.
Once I received it I reassambled the phone. Evertyhting seems to work fine but... the screen is stuck in landscape!
Of course I did soft and hard reset, tried to play / disable the G-sensor and orientation sensor, nothing: I believe it has to do with some switch that recognize when the keyboard is slide open, but I have no idea what sensor is it, I can't find any mechanism that resemble a micro switch or a mini magnet related to the opening / closing of the keyboard. Instead I find a microswitch that senses when the pen is inside, but nothing about the screen.
Any suggestion, does anybody here have any hardware knowledge on this topic? I tried to use software like Gyrator 2 which put a patch on the problem, but I would rather fix the hardware first: perhaps I did not mount something correctly, where is this sensor, is it magnetic or microswitch, I can't see anything even with lenses on.
thank you all in advance
....
I have exactly same problem, my TP2 is stuck in landscape mode. I bought TP2 in the US. My housing was broken so I bought a new one in europe the oem one with lcd screen and digitizer... Could this make the problem?
I am pretty sad, I dont want to buy a new phone :S
The sensor must be in the screen-half of the phone underneath where the red "end call" button is. This is demonstrated if a healthy phone is slid open, and then you pass a small magnet underneath the screen in that area, screen will flip between portrait and landscape.
Which yes I did the same thing today and it was your post randell that helped me. All you need to do is go to walmart purchase the smallest but most powerful smallest magnet you can find. cut you a piece of it, superglue it to the bottom right corner. worked like a charm.
or if you wanted to open your case back up like i did you can superglue it on the inside lol. If you look at your old case you will find your old magnet you can use. simple easy just thought id let you know k bye ta ta.

I was on here by chance and I had the same issue when I replaced my digitizer on my TP2 a year ago. I could never figure it out so I bit bullet and brought a new phone. I will try this when I get home and if it works be great because i loved that phone soo much when I had it thanks guys!!
Hi,
Please forgive my language mistakes.
I've got a strange issue. When I push my cell with my thumb in the 'red' area while holding blue one in place phone is unlocking automatically.
I've dissassembled and assembled my phone twice without any problems but it might be a consequence of that.
How can I disable:
1) automatically unlocking by removing stylus (maybe I'm pushing some sensor?)
2) automatically unlocking by sliding keyboard (maybe telephone thinks that keyboard is opening? - despite that that keyboard opens in opposite way....)
Thanks in advance

1&2 are effects of software. I think they can both be disabled, probably deep in WinMo's registry... I'm sorry, I don't know how to disable either of these off-hand - but I'm sure there's a way in WinMo.
As for your first description and picture, I have no clue what to make of it, sorry. It appears your phone is badly cracked, and the phone is thinking the keyboard is opening as a result of pressure on that cracked section.

Well I also believie that these options can be disabled by WinMo registry editting. The problem is I don't know where to modify.
Does someone else knows?
Well my phone is quite old but it costed me a lot of money so despite it's quite cracked I want to use it!
Maybe try using TouchLockPro to control these sensors:

Thanks. It only helped that right now i know that this is caused by keyboard sensor. In some strange way the phone (when i push as shown on picture) thinks that I'm opening the keyboard (must be really 'cracked' becuse the keyboards opens in opposite direction).
What's sad - the TouchLockPro is unable to control this behaviour. I don't know why - maybe because of Energy ROM which has CHT inside and this is overwritten.
Any ideas?

In the back of the Midframe (the metal back of the top half of the phone where the screen is at) there are two small metal sensors or whatever you want to call them. They are inside the track of the slider, try adjusting those a little and see if that makes any difference. I think that those could be the sensors that are messing up the keybaord detection on your phone. Maybe when you apply a little pressure on the phone the sliders inside the track are moving a little causing the phone to think that you have slid the keybaord open.

Thanks for your reply. Are you talking about these on below photos?
And if you're talking about these ... How do they work? Because if I will slide out the keyboard a liitle (the metal sensors are already untouched) the keyboard is still not lighted and a screen is in portrait mode....

I'm sorry, I missspoke. After further investigation it looks like the sensor is magnetic. While your keyboard is open try to place a magnet under the screen part of the phone and see if that would flip the phone back to portrait mode. Try to move it around a little to find teh most effective place for it. If it does we might be able to solve your problem with a little improvisation.

Thanks for your reply. This is magnetic indeed. When I will place a magnet under screen part (1/4 of screen part area under the buttons) it switches to portrait. But I can't a "pattern". I.e. if i will place it under right bottom (if you're looking at LCD) corner it switches to portrait but if I will put for a while magnet onto middle of 'screen-part' (ofcourse nothing happens) and then back again to 'right bottom corrner' also nothing happens. Unable to find some pattern/rule for that.

Good. So here is what I think is happening with your phone. When you press the part you were talking about in your first post, the magnetic field from the bottom of the phone is getting distorted for some reason making the upper part of your phone think that you have slid the phone open thus unlocking it and switching it to landscape mode. We do not want to buy anything costly to fix your problem, so here is what we can do. We can strengthen the magnetic field by placing a small 2mm magnet somewhre on the lower part of the phone preferably insulated and glued inside in an empty space. What will happen is when your keboard is not slid open the magnet will give teh signal to the upper part and it will be strong enough that even if you push it like you were doing it will not unlock. But when you slide the keyboard out the magnet will not be under the upper part anymore so the uper part of the phone will not be affected by it. Since you already opened your phone twice I don't think that it should be a problem for you. Just be carefull because we don't want the magnet to become loose and move around and short anything.

Thank you for your reply and appreciate your help! I've quoted the most interesting part. I had a scientific lessons on school and was moving my magnet around this 'magic corner'. I want to confirm that somehow i might have strenghed the magnet inside the device? Because right now it's a little bit better (at least better that I don't want to push with more power in case of destroying it).
Another question is about 2mm. You mean a cube 2x2x2mm or 2mmxYxZ (2mm thickness required.

That's interesting, maybe you realligned the magnetic field, that is not entirely impossible. I was talking about diameter, we want a very small magnet. It looks like the 2mm is more expensive than 3mm so maybe you can use a 3mm like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Disc-Rar...598?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0a038d56
But since it is better now, you might not need it.

Hey guys I just got my note 2 today and have been messing around with the S pen. Does anyone else notice that when pressing buttons on the screen to open apps or things in apps etc that it is not always responsive unless you hit it at the perfect angle? Also when I write normally i kind of write more at a sideways angle towards the screen but it seems to not register very well like this so I have to write more vertical towards the screen. Is there any way to fix these issues or is that just how it is at this time? Also i feel like if I write too lightly it doesn't register very well when writing. Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity or am I the only one who thinks this? Lastly, if i touch the screen with my palm it makes a mark in s note i thought it was not supposed to do this or let your finger write when the s pen is out. How do I set this?

I have a similar issue where i seem to have to press hard to get a reaction, especially the app drawer icon.
I notice you have to hit dead on which makes sense. This isn't a pencil or pen where you can write slanted and the ink still touch the paper or what not. But rather the "ball" of the s pen is where your main contact should be. Takes getting used to but what doesn't? Pen works great once you learn how it works

I had to exchange my S-pen 3 times due to sensitivity issue! One of them was way too sensitivity, I wasn't even touching the screen and I could write on S-note... Store manager thought that was part of the Note 2's new feature... lol
Even after the exchange of S-pen I was still having little issues with it, and I ran across a thread about slamming the S-pen on the ground. I know it sounds bizarre but it actually worked! I didn't believe it at first but now my s-pen works flawless... so weird. :silly:

lol like throwing it or just slamming it? and yeah i figured it would just take getting used to I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just my pen. So is there really no settings to change for it though??
Also funny question... does it matter which way it is held? Like when I was first holding it you would press the button with your thumb however you could also hold it so you would press it with your index finger. Does it matter? Is it made to work better one way?

Take a closer look at the tip of the S-pen. It's actually slightly spring loaded! I discovered this from an early review video I watched before I purchased mine. I believe that the tip has to be pressed hard enough to slightly retract in order to produce a mark. Writing with the pen at an angle may not be doing that.

But I just tried it and the pen is working 95% better. I don't know if it will stay this way but it's working pretty well (for now at least).
stupid but it works for me.

Hey I have the same problem with you but I have solved it in a stupid but effective way. I open the back case and press it, that's it the pen sensitivity back to normal.... lol try it easy and effective....
The S pen can be too sensitive, so you have to adjust its potentiometer. Yes, you heard that right.Just pop the button cover off by simply using a razor blade or something really thin, the cover should pop immediately. Then, you have to use a small flat head screwdriver and turn the screw clockwise. This will adjust the S Pen sensitivity. If you want to make it more sensible, then you have to screw counterclockwise. You should adjust it until it no longer has a problem. This fix has worked for a lot of people, so it should work as a general fix. If you still have problems with the S pen, then you should get in touch with the dealer that gave the phone to you and get the S pen switched because it is faulty.
