Snapdragon announced that Snapdragon S3 devices can now gain access to a feature called "Dual core location system" which enables connection to both the GPS (Global Positioning System) network and the russian GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System). Basically lets us connect to an additional array of satallites.
Quallcom specifically confirmed that the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 gains this ability.
So I guess getting the Snapdragon comes with some additional benefits.

Sweet, so this means that the Telus Galaxy S II X (T989D) will also have this ability then!
and how do we enable this feature?
let me guess, wait for the next ROM update

yup Dual core GPS
that's gotta be a new trade mark patent for samsung

I think that what that is implied was that this feature was just dormant up until now. I think they flip the switch on their end.

It will probably work from the start. Since its built in side the chip. The only thing stopping it was waiting for them to enable glonass.
is there some App or dial pad code we can run to see if it's working or not?

In the news it says although the functionality is ready it has to be "activated" by the carrier (I guess through a firmware update?). So we don't have it yet, not until they publish another OTA for it. God knows how long that's gonna take.

Looking to get the Galaxy Note 2 from T-Mobile today, however can someone confirm that it doesn't have this 'multi-task' sifebar? Wasn't this some type of OTA update recently from Samsung to add this functionality to the international versions?
Is this something we're going to have to wait six months to get?

Sadly something like that I shouldn't have to root for. If it is advertised I should have it on my device without having to root. I actually prefer not to root because there is nothing rooting does for me since 2.1.
Also I don't think it's a copyright or patent issue. Sony has open sourced their screen recorder and contributed to the open source community. So Samsung could use that much like CM has done for theirs.

You can opt out of CiQ. It's on page 346 of the user manual. It doesn't specifically state that's CIQ, BUT that's what CIQ does for T-Mobile. CIQ isn't as bad a people think or claim. Due to HTC's bad implementation of the software given to them by CIQ they got a bad rap.
I just bought the galaxy note 2 from T-Mobile but I can't figure out how to get the multi window.

Looks like Samsung is doing the same BS HTC dose. If the feature isn't released by nov 24 im gonna make a support petition and take Samsung to small claims court and get every penny I paid back. How can they market the phone with the ability then say they are unaware if the device will support it. My neighbor took att to small claims court and won. Sprint began rolling out an update to their Note 2 devices to add the multi-window feature, which so far has been absent on US Note 2 devices.
Hopefully AT&T's update won't take longer than two weeks, as this feature looks fantastic and unique.

I'm not sure why but it's probably because they got left over parts they never put to use so they probably just slap them together into a mid range phone and make whatever they can out of the parts they wouldn't be able to get rid of anyways. Just my thought... if you can scrap older parts or left overs into a device you can use to sell via a carrier on a contract for 50 to 100$ maybe even free, why not?
Maybe looking to corner the market on pre-paid carriers with the left-over parts as mentioned before. Also, with apple rumors on a lower cost iphone for overseas markets, maybe this will be marketed as the H2H competitor.
We got Jelly already anyway so who cares? I mean if FL16 isn't good enough for a daily I don't know what is.

So why is this called Plus? Seems the same as the SII but with less storage? Same screen size, same camera's, both are dual core. Why would you go with this over a a SII?
I guess the positives of it rocking nearly the same hardware is that if the older S2 models don't get 4.2.x updates... the S2 + will be a sign of hope.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Looks like the price will be around $450usd (if its priced similarly to other countries by exchange rate) so itll be a lower mid range device on par with s3 mini slightly higher price than s3 and lower than prevail. So on contract it should come in between $99 and free(if it goes to us carriers that arent prepaid)

Who the hell knows. Probably size constraints cdma devices have alot more crap inside them than gsm does. International phones have one gsm hspa+ 21 or 42 antenna vs cdma has a 1x/3g plus wimax or 1x separate 3g and wimax. Then theres all the other parts in there wifi antenna bluetooth SoC RAM etc nfc chips are actually quite big. The s3 has it built into the battery because of that and the note 2 has it built into the battery cover with connectors that press against leads on the back housing
Edit: it also has a very limited range like maybe 2" MAX so it cant be embedded in the device it needs to be almost at the surface to prevent interference from the other hardware. Its range is so limited it wont eve work thru some phone cases

Not going to lie... a little disappointed about what the update includes (or lacks) but what can you do. It is unfortunate that there is such a big gap in hardware between the North America model and the international s3.
I did hear that there were rumors that there would be one hardware model with different internal storage amounts for the s4. That right there would be a great reason to upgrade in my option.
Either way it's great to see an update and hopefully we will get a taste of some stock 4.1.2

Seems unlikely that Samsung would have a phone that could support all of the different LTE bands plus WCMDA and EV-DO and that the US carriers will allow Samsung to deliver a phone without crapware. Only Apple has that pull.

Screw retarded companies that work to only gain revenue. They turn a magnificent phone into ****. Just like a 4 year old i9000 galaxy s. Latest TW version is 2.3.3 latest XDA version is 4.2.2 screw Samsung, screw carriers.

I have an AT&T OTA being pushed to my phone RIGHT NOW?!?
I am on AT&T stock rooted 4.1.1 and looks like an OTA just hit....says about 330 MB. Any ideas? I haven't heard anything else on the news wire about this. So I am curious this isn't some reflash error that is going to BORK my phone. Guess we'll find out in a minute. The push is SLOW and I am on WiFi,

I think this is processor dependent so that it doesn't affect device performance while multitasking.

I don't buy that..
I'm using galaxymod with multiwindow and pop up browser etc.. and it runs smooth as silk while multitasking.
we do have an extra gig of ram remember as well, plus our processor is definitely no slouch

The Galaxymod has some optimizations (tweaks) done to it. I don't think the carriers would go this route to be able to make multiwindow run smoothly.

they wouldn't need to lol
it isn't like we have some weak old processor
I also have a Galaxy S2 ATT variant and since the international for 4.1.2 with a working multi view it works fine ported over to the i777 ATT SGS2. IT has a dual core exynos processor though (maybe why). But it is a 1.2Ghz dual core so the SGS3 SHOULD be able to handle it just as well. I would place my bet on the carriers...

Galaxy s3 international is quadcore.

as an electrical engineer I guarantee it would work fine....
anyone thinking otherwise is crazy. our processor is pretty powerful, I dint even understand the doubt lol
I ran multi windows on my 500mhz Pentium III PC back in the day ......

I'm sure our Canadian neighbors will get it.

This is definitely on the carrier. They know if they give up this feature, then we wouldn't have a reason to upgrade so to speak. It's really sad how they try and cripple a top-end device just so that they can make more money. It's like saying our processor was obsolete before it even hit the market. Come on, we here all know that our processor can easily handle multitasking. To state otherwise is completely false.
The point is that 4.1.2 does not come with multiview (for non-international variants).
I don't see the big deal of the 4.1.2 release anymore without the Premium Suite anymore either.
I think there is an agreement between Samsung and the carriers for the release schedule of these features, so we may not get it until 4.2.1 (which may also fix the lock-screen security flaw). Since multiview wasn't in the original AOSP for our variants, your carrier isn't going to cook it with our existing short battery-life (stock).
Sure, the processor can run it, but also dual-core processor has been known to sap more battery life than the quad-core chipset in real world use.
