Decks? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok have a few questions, where is the 'hold to exit app' in the settings? I can't seem to find it, it's not like cmsettings. Also, how does supercharge work because I'm having a hard time getting it to work.

You have to download Script Manager first. Run it with whatever settings you want (I use the 512 balanced setting) and reboot. Run the script after the reboot to make sure the settings stuck. If they didn't, check the help file. I couldn't get everything to stick on MIUI so I have Script Manager set to run 99supercharger on boot. I can't remember the exact file location, but the help file that's created on your SD card will tell you everything you need to know. You need to set the V6 supercharger script to run as root, but not at boot. If settings won't stick, set 99supercharger to run as root and on boot. I also configured both as favorites and in Script Manager settings have the favorites screen open by default when I launch the app. You also need to check browse as root in SM settings so that you can locate the 99supercharger file if needed.
You can download SM widgets to place shortcuts or widgets to certain scripts on your homescreen.
I suggest reading through the thread, you'll find a lot of good info there. There's one in the Evo general section and the original is in Android Hacking & Development (I think).

Okay, I understood all that. I'll try it. I read the thread, I believe my problem was I used it on miui and It didn't stick at all so simple change. I'm glad. For some reason my 4g isn't working on decks. Weird cause my rsa are present and it's the right area for 4g, just connects and immediately disconnects.

[Q] Question about flashing SenseGinger by team villain

Hello,
My name is Iris, but you guys can call me Rezz7
I am new to the forum, not to XDA I come here often (long story)
I have a T-Mobile G2 phone that I used Visionary to gain temp root, then I went this route to perm root:
Instructions:
1. The first step is to install Terminal Emulator and a file manager from the Marketplace, such as, Astro file manager.
2. Now insert the SD card to your computer and unzip the “root_files.zip” file (download link given at the bottom of this post) to this SD card (a directory will be created called root_files on the card). When done, unmount the SD card from your computer. Make sure that all the extracted files are directly inside the root_files folder and not in another subfolder inside it.
3. Enable unknown sources (under Settings –> Applications) and USB Debugging (under Settings –> Applications –> Development).
4. Using the file manager (we are using Astro file manager), navigate to the root_files directory on the SD card (created in step 2), and select “com.modaco.visionaryplus.r14.apk” to install the Visionary app.
5. Launch the Visionary app and click on “Temproot now”. Leave the other settings unchecked. Visionary Desire Z Temp Rooting Desire Z
6. Start the terminal app and type the following commands:
$ su
# cp /sdcard/root_files/perm_root /data/local/perm_root
# chmod 777 /data/local*
# /data/local/perm_root
With this ROM: SenseGinger by TeamVillain.v3
I come here often to read on stuff, but see I come from the iphone world, jailbreaking and unlocking is waay more simple than android. Eh!
Ok so my question is the following. I have ROM MANAGER and the phone's recovery is ClockWorkMod Recovery, I downloaded the SenseGinger to the SDCARD, I wipe data, cache and tried to load from SD. I see META-INF
and a system but ....? what am I missing. Where is the big boot?
HEEEELP please
Thanks
what do you mean you tried to load from sd? you need to select flash rom from sd from the rom manager program. your phone will then reboot and start to flash the rom. thats all you need to do.

Do you have root explorer ? It's a great tool to have for rooted devices also if you happen to unzip it again you can use that to re-zip the file (if you have a slow internet connection, i think this way would be faster than downloading the rom again)
ALSO i suggest you try Virtuous rom first because not everything is working on Senseginger yet (i know so sad eh)

Thanks for your advice. Sad? Nooo its tragic, lol.
Right now I have a mega slow connection. Im on a fam plan. I have a nexus one that had an ota like over a month ago for 2.3.3, the g2 im rooting, and my brother has another g2 that im supposed to root.
My interent connection is more than slow. I usually use the nexus one as wifi, or use my brother's phone and mine for the 4g however tmobile is throttling us because we capped our data at 5GB though we have unlimited data, so downloading that senseginger is a pain... that tool you recommended will be useful in the future. Thanks.
I dont know where else to get roms from, I found a few for the G2 from the unlockr website. But I will research what you recommended.

You can view the various roms available in the development sub-forum under the G2 Header. This thread has a list of roms and links to them (as well as various guides and kernels).
Browse and play around with the roms, give them a chance and find out what features you like best. They've all got pros and cons. CM7 (Cyanogenmod 7) is a non sense-based rom that is pretty popular and a stable build was released a few days ago.

Thanks Takram.
Im a bit familiar with Cyanogenmod my ex modded his nexus one all the time. I have had anexus for over a year n never modded it, now i have both the g2 n the nexus. I was afraid bc I used to see my ex flash his phone all the time n it looked so complicated just like he would say that jailbreaking iphone is hard.
:-/ But i will start playing with different roms n stuff. Thanks for the link
Ok... It seems to be working, guys. Thanks to every single one of you. I would have never been able to solve this on my own.
What do you guys know about data throttle? Is there any way to by pass it? I mean we all pay unlimited data, plus the extra for 4g, and the extra for tethering. We should not get throttled...

King size BUG in SenseGinger
I have installed this rom on my G2 like 2-3 days ago.... and this super bug started today. I had to make a call to activate a bank card, so I dial the bank's number, and so when I have to press one for english the phone crashes! I have tried robooting the phone, I deleted the cahe, wiped the user, reinstalled the rom... same issue.
Giant Bug, though we confuse our phones this days with computers, gps or flashlights the truth is... that its a phone .... and lol well, if you can you can't use the phone feature lol ... i find it funny. Kinda' ironic.
Which version you running? They just released a new version about that time.

???? help???
I know there was a temporary patch that was attached to a post on page 67 that will fix that problem. You basically need to replace the phone.apk.. im personally staying on the old version until they get overclocking on the new version. Also the older version runs flawlessly on my g2 so i really didnt see any reason to upgrade.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
HMM I hear you. I can't say it runs flawlessly. Mines freezes a bit, or it doesn't react quickly. When I slide the notifications down it takes me like two or 3 touches to get them to slide down. Or going through screens it freezes sometimes. But its not something that I can't live with. The thing about the phone kills the mobile network. I have to reboot the phone for it to come back.
Sometimes if you let it sit like 5 minutes the mobile network comes back on its own.... I mean not flawless, the phone app issue is most annoying though. Thank God I wasn't stranded somewhere needing to activate my bank card.

[RECOVERY-APP]Aroma File Manager by amarullz

i take no credit for this wonderful app, amarullz here on xda made it and I'm just posting it here for everyone in case u haven't noticed it yet, the original thread and file manager app can be found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25911276
the way this works is you flash it as a zip like u would any other zip in rercovery but it launches a recovery app filemanager to allow making changes to files/folders without a working OS.
when u flash it, a pop up will appear, press the power button and follow the directions until the app launches.
on first launch, u need to tap menu then settings, and enable mount all partitions at startup. then exit the app.
restart aroma file manager and u should be good to go.
some may not use this, but others might need it. either way, enjoy!

I dunno honestly. I'm not near a PC to test it. but probably not as by mount, I mean for the app to see it. kind of how recovery mounts system, wipes it, flashes to it, then unmounts it. no mount, no access.

{Script} {APP} CPU Sleeper, The Battery Saver Mod! 07/12/2012 Release 2.1

App Version:
CPU Sleeper
~Free to all XDA Memebers
~ Must Be Rooted to use App
What is it?
Its a fairly simple App that will put CPU 1/2/3 OFFLINE when the screen turns off. Once the screen comes back on, it will allow CPU 1/2/3 back ONLINE.
How does it work?
Since we have Dual & Quad core CPUs, we have a CPU 0 and a CPU 1/2/3, core 0/1/2/3, while the screen is off we really only need to have 1 core active "CPU0", this App will make sure CPU 1/2/3 shuts off while the screen is off, then resumes normal usage when the screen comes back on.
Compatibility?
Works with any Dual Core & Quad Core Devices!
~ICS
~Gingerbread
Battery Saving?
Battery savings all depends on Usage & idle times.
App Download: CPUSleep.apk
Credits:
Handlerexploit for co-creation of this wonderful App.
Script Version!
Code:
This time I present to you a script that will in theory (and so far for me, in reality) save us some battery without having to risk our hardware with undervolting! I present to you...
[B]CPU Sleeper[/B]
[QUOTE]Honestly the Script can be made to work with any Dual Core / Quad Core! The Only Problem is you need to be Rooted!
~ Currently the issue with CM9, is that the boot becomes incomplete while in init.d folder without Modification to the sysinit..
~ however, with any rooted device you can download the script & continue to use it via a script manager app on every boot.
~ With the Script Manager App, this script virtually can run on any Multi-Processor CPU
Hope that clears things Up,
~~Eugene[/QUOTE]

[B][COLOR="red"]WARNING! READ THIS![/COLOR][/B]
This script relies on init.d OR script manager! CM9, for some reason, tends to run this at the exact same time it runs some other script (I forget atm which) and it will clash, causing no boot! CM9 users MUST use the script manager version install! Flex Reaper appears to work fine with it as init.d. I strongly urge you to use the script manager version of this, NOT the flashable version. Always make a nandroid backup before modifying the system, including this!
[U][COLOR="Red"]Instructions[/COLOR][/U]
Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.
[I]Version 1: Flashable[/I]
Same as any of my flashable releases, I did most of the work for you!
Make a full backup
Download to external SD card
Install from SD card
Pick the cpu sleeper zip file
it'll be almost instant
reboot
Shouldn't be any need to clear caches or anything like that.
[I]Version 2: Script only[/I]
This can be run in 2 ways, via init.d support, or via script manager. Both are pretty similar, and can be done a number of ways, however this is the basis of how.
[U]Init.d supported kernel:[/U]
Make a backup!
Download the script file, making sure no extensions get added onto the file. Copy the file to /system/etc/init.d and set the permissions to the following:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, reboot the system, and it will take effect when your system is finished rebooting.
[U]Script Manager[/U]
This method is probably the better method, and should work with any kernel/ROM. Download the script file, making sure no file extensions get added, and copy it to /system/etc. Set the file permissions to:
XOX
XOX
XOX
Once done, load up script manager, select browse as root (if it isn't already set from the crossix mod method in the guide) then browse to /system/etc and select the script file S98cpu_sleep, then select ROOT and BOOT options. After this is set, reboot system.
[U]What do I do if I can't boot after using this?[/U]
You made that backup, right? Ok, then here is what you do.
Hold the power button until the tablet powers off
Press and hold the volume down button, next to the screen lock switch
Press and hold Power (while holding volume down)
Once the recover kernel message comes up, release the buttons
In CWM go to advanced, mounts, mount system, then format system
In TWRP, go to wipe, then wipe system
In CWM go to restore, advanced restore, restore ONLY system
In TWRP select restore, then uncheck all so ONLY system is checked
After restoring system, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reboot system.
System should boot normally.
[B]Downloads[/B]

That's suppose to be correct, however when asleep they still come online...
All this script does is forces them to stay offline regardless, as 1 cpu can handle everything while asleep to start with...
The biggest misunderstanding is, everyone thinks the CPU stay offline while asleep! This however is not the case at all...
All I ask is use the script for a full day, and let it speak for it's self...
Thanks,
~Eugene
just installed this script through script manager. i'll use it for a day or so and report back.

Available in 2 versions, script only version which you can place wherever you want and run however you want, or a CWM/TWRP flashable zip that will place the file for you in /system/etc/init.d and set permissions.

question
Ive been testing battery life for a week now with cpu 1 stock and forced on, According to system tuner apk. cpu 1 is not even running 95% percent of the time with screen on and off /using phone, seems the kernel controls this pretty damn good, so.unless that app is not working correctly would something like this script even help at all?
What have your results/ testing been?

Yeah, did you also try the script manager method? I used the script manager to copy the file S98cpu_sleep to system/etc but it said "You cannot paste here because the file system is read-only." Any suggestions?

I know we can do the script manager method but the init.d is cleaner.

If this is so simple why manufactureres not have this as default option?

Use root explorer and mount system as R/W... then you can do it. Long press after to set permissions... and then mount it back as R/O

Deleted, shouldn't have been this rude...
Please don't flash T989 /I727
I think people assumed that because you included it in the post that it would work on GS3's which is understandable.
Guessing you copied and pasted from your original thread.

I understand the label, but there are times where the flash able zips are cross device. No where in your post do you say DO NOT FLASH. again, no reason to post it or instructions for it if it doesn't work for our device. I understand you want praise and people thanking you, but don't spam it across different device forums and expect people not to be upset.

Sorry not trying to spam it... Just wanted everyone to be aware of it is all.
OP has a new format now... I recommend using the App now
& removed the .zip as well to prevent any further issues.
I'm confused. I've read the whole thread (not that big yet), including the OP...and the posts about it 'not working for this device'.
Does this work on the AT&T Galaxy S III or not?

yes it works.... I recommend using the App though.

Prioritizing boot order

I am running kebbersrom_cmflex1.5 with the script to swap internal memory with sdcard.
My problem is that several programs start before the script is run, this causes a problem as these programs access the internal memory and not the sdcard thus not finding their data.
My question is how might I prioritize things so that the script runs before everything else.
I set the script up using smanager, with boot and root checked.
Any help or ideas would be great.
Thanks
Ron

You could manually add a call into the ramdisk so it should run on early init, placed after storage but before the rest of init. You'll need to open the boot.IMG make the changes then put it back together then fastboot flash it on.
Alternately and probably easier is set it up for init.d use, it'll start later but run before any app can so anything as its still during the sys init.
Both can cause boot to hang, so make a backup first.

This sounds promising. How might I go about setting it up for init.d use?
Thanks

Depends on the script you're using, placing it in /etc/init.d and naming it something like 99swap may work.

I'm using crossix's MicroSD 2 Internal memory swap script.
I placed it in the /etc folder but that didn't work.
I'll try the /etc/init.d folder.
Thanks

Has to be in init.d not just /etc to be picked up. Iirc the mounts aren't correct since its for ICS, this may be part of your issue.

I tried the one for JB. Problem was upon restoring my programs none of them could see their data as the JB script uses sdcard0, all my previous programs were set to look for /mnt/sdcard.
And crossix's script works, as that is what I was using with my previous rom. The only problem I have is the script didn't load soon enough. Hopefully moving it to init.d will change that.
Do I need to drop the .sh on the end of the script when I move it?
Thanks
Ron

Well init.d scripts don't usually have extensions, so drop it and see if it works, or leave it on and see, just experiment with it.

So I went ahead and copied it into the init.d folder.
Seems to almost work.
Boots up seeing the sdcard as the internal memory.
But both evernote and swiftkey seem to load first. They seem so far like the only two.
So I've lost all my notes from evernote even though I still have them all. :'(
And I can't find anyway to redirect evernote to the sdcard to pick up my notes. Just errors out.
swiftkey says that my language packs can't load.
If there was a way to redirect evernote it would all be livable. Even if I had to redirect it every time I reboot.
I've rebooted several times and doesn't seem to change anything for evernote.
I suppose I'll have to uninstall it and then re install it to see if that works.
Thanks
Ronnie
