Hello, yesterday I decided to finally give cyanogenmod a try and went through and installed it successfully. HOWEVER! I'm not quite happy with it and simply want to return back to stock.
Heres the thing...I kinda didnt do a Nandbackup...I know...
How in the world do I get back to factory settings without me losing the ability to root again and be able to receive OTA updates?
Help is highly appreciated. Thanks.
go get yourself a stock but rooted rom out of the dev section and flash that, presumably the same place you got CM.....
I got CM from Rom Manager, where is the dev section to get the rooted stock rom?? Sorry I'm not that familiar with this.

Just curious, what didn't you like about it?
You can get a rooted stock ROM from ROM Manager. Look for joeykrim from the download rom menu. Haven't tried it myself though. Can't vouch for it.

There were a couple things I did not like:
1) the dialer it has a nice layout but you cant search for a contact by typing the letters in their name, you actually have to go through the contacts list
2) ADW Launcher - Nothing againts it, it's nice and all but I'm personally used to Launcher pro. You can change it and disable ADW so it's not too big of a deal
3) The biggest problem I had was the mic, for some reason I was not able to be heard when I made a phone call...I could hear the person but they couldnt hear me I had to restart the phone.
4) Battery killer - Hate to say it but it was murdering my battery..well kind of. I have the Seido 3500 mah but I was at 20% at around 12 hours. Im usually at 40 - 50 range.
Thats about it. some of them arent big deals but the dialer and the mic problem just dont do it for me...I was really looking forward to it, but i guess i'll have to wait until it's a little bit more stable. There are some things I did like, it's definitely much snappier it feels much smoother and with set cpu i got my cpu to 1.3Ghz (awesome!) and I loved the music controls on the lockscreen and the swipe to ignore notification.
Dont get me wrong, it's amazing work and my hat comes off to everyone who has worked extremely hard to make cyanogen (or any rom) to happen. They are definitely talented individuals, but this one just doesnt fit my needs.
Thanks for the information btw, I will go ahead and try it!

Just a little heads up before flashing to another rom. All of those problems you are facing can be fixed by simply installing a few apps and a little tweaking.
1. My solution to the dialer problem: dialer one, this app is more like senses dialer, you can search for a contact my name or number... you will like it.
2. If you are looking for a launcher such as Rosie, then your sol with out a sense rom.. but if ADW launcher was all you didn't like (I personally dislike ADW also) then try out launcher pro.
3./4. These can all be problem from a bad install.. I would flash the rom again. For your battery search for cyanogenmod battery calibration.
Hope this helps!

That's very odd- try resetting your battery statistics, as people generally get about 40-50% better battery life on cyanogen than on sense- on average i get about 28 hours of battery life under normal use.
Since no one else seems to be keen on answering the origional question,
How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS
That will put you back to total stock, however, that pc36img.zip might be out of date. The OP is still in that thread, and very helpful though.

Thanks I'm going to give cyanogen another try, I wont delete it just yet. Question though..Is there any way to disable ADW Launcher. I read that you could use root explorer and rename or delete it, but when I try it says I dont have permission (something like that).
Another question is..Is there any way to put widgets on the cyanogen lockscreen? I like using Widgetlocker but I freaking love the music controls on the cyanogen lockscreen. Is it possible to have the best of both worlds?

Thats nifty but I still like the way the stock dialer does it, it's much simpler.
So I don't have the phone, but I am interested, hence I have been following the whole rooting process, etc.
Simply put, as the phone has now been rooted, has anybody tried any of the standard Captivate ROMs yet? In particular, anybody try the Captivate ROM for Cyanogenmod on the Captivate Glide?
I gather it won't work seeing as how the underlying hardware is different (Hummingbird on the Captivate VS. Tegra 2 on the Captivate Glide), but who knows...
I'd try but I don't have the phone...yet
I am 99.9% Sure it will not work without any modification. The hardware of the glide is very different from the original captivate.
it will require different kernel at MINIMUM.plus hardware keyboard driver, open/close switch .... other drivers different as well...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the original Captivate never got an official gingerbread release from AT&T.
So my confidence in AT&T is pretty low.
Not really a full mod but someone who knows how to remove all the preloaded crap on it should release a clean rom.

Battery Icon mod.
I have figured out how to change the battery icon in the status bar to show the percentage. the phone is programed to only show in 5% increments, but it't better that guessing!
I have posted a MOD thread here.

Get this: NoLED
It's better than any notification light, and since our screens are OLED, only the icon area draws power. I've noticed no significant battery loss.

Where did you get the 5% increment battery icons from? Rom Toolbox has only 1%, 10% and 20%.
Thanks to rockypr for his idea to do this on FH23. List all the fixes, bugs, additions or whatever you want to discuss about the FI25 Leak.
I will start.
Additions/Changes:
1. Removed ability to choose between MTP or Mass Storage.
2. Removed the Back up and reset option under settings.
3. Much more stable! "rwilco12"
4. Feels super smooth !"rwilco12"
5. Picture messages now send on 3G. "rwilco12"
6. Connections seem to be much faster. "rwilco12"
7. Battery percentage icon is off by default again. "rwilco12"
8. Several updated bloatware apps. "rwilco12"
9. Connection Optimizer is removed. "tdunham"
10. Bootanimations appear to be working again. "tdunham"
11. Removed contact tab from dialer again. "manufan721"
12. Out of Office editing works again! "rwilco12"
13. Battery monitor for devs is removed. "rwilco12"
14. Sprint Zone has a voice. "rwilco12"
15. It seems they added an extra font called Helvetica Neue. "Dvin211"
Bugs/Issues:
1. The Recent Apps thing, where it isn't transparent if you have 3 or less apps in it, still exists.
2. The led notification light does not pulse while charging. "someguyatx"
3. Bluetooth is not functioning properly. "grncherry" For me it was constantly dropping the connection.
4. My WiFi just stopped connecting out of the blue.
Some quotes from the community:
Hmmm.....i flashed and it seemed laggy to me, modem worked great. "manufan721"
This modem really helped with low signal. "revamper"
Data speeds greatly improved and get signal before where i never used to! "elliwigy"
Holy crap this ROM is fricken smooth! Scrolling on it is nice finally! "daniel4653"
Coming from FI03 I'm finding this build to be laggy at times with a couple freeze ups when opening apps- Market , Gmail & Working in settings which reminds me of the young ICS bad days. Data transfer is slower. "sling"
I went back to FH13 today. FI25:not good modem. very slow. Some hicups opening apps. They took away some functions. :banghead: I did not feel much improvement from FH13 or to be more accurate from FI03. "Omar04"
Battery life has greatly increased. "IamFlynn"
I'll second Omar on the FH25 modem. Its terrible for me. The ROM is alright, a little bit smoother and more crisp than FH13, but not enough for me to change my daily setup. "boXerrumble "

Fu#*! I didn't notice that yet. Haven't had a chance to use the rom yet. That blows. I don't know why they are mucking with it so much. I don't understand why they removed the mass storage option or the backup feature either. As far as it being laggy I am not noticing that part. Seems really smooth and fluid for me.

Some things that I've noticed:
Agat's FI03 repack instead of FI25 kernel seemed to give me even better signal. Asked Tray to test as well but didn't work for him.
The buttons between contacts and dialer - which were nice - are gone again
Wonder if they're cutting down because the ROM was as big as it was...?

I don't mind installing stuff like this, especially if it fixes the issues im having, I can handle most of the tech hurdles, however I wish there was some kinda of feedback mechanism. Clearly 'they' aren't just writing the ROMs for fun....
Just some more stuff I've found.
- Out of Office editing works again!
- Battery monitor for devs is removed.
- Sprint Zone has a voice... Maybe I'm imagining this one but it wasn't in previous builds, right? Correct me if I'm wrong on this one.
this is irrelevant but is anyone having power button issues? mine is seriously messing up now.
Also, they better have not removed mass storage.

That is not the issue. The led notification light does not pulse while charging in Touchwiz ics builds. It worked in GB Touchwiz roms and it works in Aosp roms. You can use controls in aosp roms to make the light flash blue and red or the app blink or lightwave can make the light flash blue. Its very handy.
I'm running stock with Tunein Radio Pro & slacker radio installed.
Coming from FI03 I'm finding this build to be laggy at times with a couple freeze ups when opening apps- Market , Gmail & Working in settings which reminds me of the young ICS bad days.

Ah I gotcha now ..sounds to me more like a feature that was removed in ICS not so much a bug to be fixed
In addition to the warning CJ posted, can we get a clear explanation about the stock kernel issue too please?
Here is an excerpt from Kobridge's forum by Leaderbuilder:
"Well flashed this and liking it so far but here are some things I've found. Stock kernel worked (works). But when I tried to Mobile Odin a source built kernel with recovery (Agat's 5.4 or RUjeluss' 1.8) the phone locke up on boot and required a battery pull.
To get it back to functioning I had to PC Odin the FI03 Agat's kernel (Couldn't use the FI25 one click from the repository it kept failing md5 check). Then I was able to boot back up.
Then tried to Mobile odin back to FI25 kernel via Mobile Odin and the same thing happened - stuck at boot screen. So back to PC Odin One-click and use FI03 Agats and booting again."
CSROM & Graviton Support and Discussion Thread
This thread was created in response to a new xda initiative to reduce non-development related posts on development threads.
An added benefit of a thread here is that users with under 10 posts can get some help (and won't have to PM me).
I will maintain just one thread (hopefully this works) for both ROMs and all carriers to help preserve my sanity.
Please be sure to specify which ROM you are using and the carrier.
Below are some examples of common types of posts and where they belong
Q&A and FAQ Thread:
"What kernel gives the best battery life with this ROM?"
"Is Nova launcher compatible with this ROM?"
"The battery life for this ROM is off the chizarts!"
"The battery life for this ROM is total crap!"
"I just flashed this ROM and my GPS doesn't work. :crying:"
Development Thread:
"The new cellular data toggle isn't working (confirmed by another user)?"
"I keep getting FC's from SystemUI. Any thoughts?"
"I selected the green battery icons in Aroma but it installed the blues ones (I checked twice)."
"I just flashed this ROM and it bricked my device! "
"The battery life for this ROM is off the chizarts!
(see attached screenshots from Better Battery Stats)."
"The battery life for this ROM is total crap!
(see attached screenshots from Better Battery Stats)."
**********************************************
There are exceptions to the examples above. If you are using a port and your GPS doesn't work I need to know that.
It will probably take some time for threads like this to evolve, so I am definitely open to feedback.

Hey guys,
ATT CSROM v1.4 GS3 - Love the ROM so far, once I got a lot of my apps and data restored and a few issues with that worked out.
Kind of a newb to customs roms. This is the first one I have put on my GS3.
As far as I can tell I am using the CS launcher and would like to the change the wallpaper on my lock screen. However when I bring up the selection screen it only give me the option to use the stock wallpapers.
Can I just move an image to the stock location and have it appear? Or is there another option?

Yeah, it get's tough sometimes. That is why guys like you and the other people that test for me are a huge help. You guys make my life a lot easier by helping out on the threads.
It won't be long before I stop supporting the Atrix. I just don't have the time and I don't use the device anymore.
There is also a pretty good chance I will close up shop for my Sprint and T-Mobile ports for this device. There is not much interest for my ROMs in either forum. Probably not a bad thing since that will lighten my workload.

I am wondering if this thread would be better in the general section. That way it can be Q&A, FAQ, and general discussion. But, like I said in the OP, this is a new concept to we will have to see how it evolves.

If you want to use anything other than a stock wallpaper for the lockscreen you need to have the Samsung gallery installed. The AOSP gallery is not compatible with the lockscreen for pics, or other images on your device.

Yeah I'm learning to port and build from source at the moment so this will stay as my daily driver for sure.

Just a mention,
I installed Light Flow Lite yesterday and toyed around with it. Long story short it broke the AOSP lock screen. By broke I mean any time I would put my phone into sleep then wake it up and interact with any function of the lock screen it would become unresponsive and reboot (fast reboot I think).
I was finally able to get out of it by bringing the notification window down and getting into settings. Disabled the lock screen and the device was fine. Uninstalled Light Flow and wiped the data with TB, but the lock screen is still broken. Haven't tried the touchwiz lock screen for fear of it being broken too.
Aside from that the batt life is amazing and everything works wonderfully. Even got another gallery installed via Aroma and can change the lock screen wallpaper (not that im using a lock screen right now).

Based on what I have read on this apps web site it wasn't meant for an aosp rom. That sounds like a matter of app not being compatible with the rom so I would say not the roms fault.
Glad you were able to get things back to normal.

You are the second or third user that had this happen. I will add a warning to the OP.
If I remember correctly, Light Flow works fine with the stock lockscreen. But you might want to wait until someone that actually uses it chimes in.

Thanks, I couldnt really find anything else that mentioned having that kind of trouble, but it definitely makes sense. And I wasnt blaming it on the ROM, just saying it was a side effect.
Maybe the mention will keep someone else from breaking their lock screen.
Again, thanks for the great rom!!

Hello!
My name is KJT (on the net) and I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SIII t999. When it came to me it had stock 4.0.4 Android. First thing I did was Root/CWM recovery it so that I could Wi-Fi Tether and have a custom recovery.. I found nothing wrong with the phone and it did everything I needed it to and more! At the time I wasn't willing to customize my firmware because I didn't really care.. Two(almost 3) years passed by and so much has changed in the modding community. So I checked on faster ROM's for my device and found so many to pick from! I didn't know what to pick.. I tried a couple of ROM's, but I found myself going back to SlimKat 4.4.2.build.3-OFFICAL-3061 and WOW was I surprised at how the look and feel made my phone like new again.. I now say to my friends that I upgraded my S3 into the S4.. Not really, but its "like" I did, with a software update. Heheh..
Anyways back to my device.. After updating to SlimKat I found some things a little weird with my phone, but nothing I couldn't figure out (except one thing that I will get into a little later). There was a couple things screwy with it and I had to research for a couple of days to find the answers. After fixing the small issues I wanted to fix the CPU issues and why it would throttle when I played a game longer then 5mins.. I found the option and disabled it, but it seemed to drain my battery way faster with it off. I then looked at new kernels for my phone and what would work good for battery and for performance. I found KTweaker and realized that installing SlimKat changed my model number to Samsung-SGH-I747. So I installed the Kernal (3.4.82-cyanogenmod-g9a7e2a6 [email protected] #1 Sun Mar 9 16:16:31 MST 2014). It seemed to work really well, but I see the LED blinking Blue on bootup(and stay blinking) every time I restart my phone now after installing this Kernal. So I tricked the LED to turn off by using Light Manager's test notification option. Once I turn on test and then shut screen off, the LED turns to the color I was testing in Light Manager and the LED turns off.. So that is the trick, but if there is anyone that can help me understand or fix the Blue LED that stays blinking after boot up, I would really appreciate it. I have no other apps that control notifications, and I have tried turning off all LED options, but nothing seems to work. The only thing I can do is trick the LED..
So after that, I decided I would try and find another Kernel/Tweaks, but after flashing Xtweak it seems to be running a bit smoother. I am stuck no with only one issue and that is the Blue LED flashing at boot and staying on until I trick it. KTweak app (Not XTweak) that is listed in the menu had some crazy OC settings and profiles. Now I think I am set with my CPU issues. I played my game Order and Chaos Online(GAME PLAY) for 4 hours yesterday with no lag and the CPU never throttled.
So my only problem is the Blue LED at boot.. I hope to figure it out and I will report back if I find the solution. Thanks for reading.

::UPDATE:: March 01-06, 2014...
------------------------------------------
First off the LED blue light has been fixed with a format of the internal memory and flashing a new rom. I believe the problem was with Slimkat ROM and Ktoons kernel on build 3.
I have SlimKat Build 4 now after some internal data lose(system/data/cache and most of my personal data from the last month... lol). I recommend not trying to fix your phone at 3:am and tired.. I had a back up from last month, but I know I lost a lot of other stuff I can't remember, but I think it was a good thing, because my phone is now running faster and with a lot more space on the internal hdd. So I guess I did a system restore with updating to Build 4. I am really enjoying build 4 and haven't come across any problems. I have not installed KToons kernel yet, but he has updated it and I will try it out when I have more time. I will update later. Thanks for reading..

If you don't need led
Go to
Settings→Display→Light Options→Notification Led
And disable it.

I do need the notifications turned on, but when ever I restart my phone the blue LED light(top left cover on face of device) continues to stay pulsing way past boot. I use to see it only pulse a few times at boot and then it would stop and load the OS. It only started happening right after I flashed the KToon kernel. I love the kernel and it make my device so much better then it was before with the SlimKat kernel.
I also have tried many different steps to stop the pulse at start up, but only found that if I trick it and put on another LED notification, then it stops after I make it change to the other notification.. Its almost like it gets stuck on the notification for boot up. I uninstalled all apps and also reformatted.. I was thinking of another kernel install, but have not found a better kernel(even with this issue) then KToons..

I had the stock for over 2 years and wanted something new.. More performance and battery life. This kernel has done that with the KTweak settings I have.

EDIT: What I really want is what this kernel is giving me, its just the led problems I need to solve... lol

Yup, i've been flashing on Galaxy's since the S2. After the S2, Samsung released identical hardware for all carriers, including the international edition. The only software you had to worry about is recoveries, Baseband, and if on T Mobile, the TW version if you wanted Wifi calling.

My wireless calling works fine and I am on T-Mobile network. So I guess I did everything correct.. lol
Still trying to figure out the Blue LED at boot....
UPDATE!!!
Ok, so I found out that it was the Ktoons kernel that was giving the notification Blue LED at start and wouldn't go away. I guess it was set to notify at start, but then never turned off. This is now fixed because of a flash to the new build 4 of slimkat.
So the issues that I was having before with the LED was only because of the kernel I flashed on a slimkat rom. It worked great, but had the LED issue.
::UPDATE::
Ok, now to talk about my new updated build 4 slimkat device.
