Ok I've installed and uninstalled it a few times ill try it again.

Wow, I have to say, this app has come a LONG way from when I tried it out, and immediately uninstalled it a few months ago. Considering how frustrated I've been with swype lately, I'm going to stick with this for a bit.

Super alternative to Swype. Thanks QBKing

If anyone is looking for alternatives, Swiftkey X is great.

Saw this post yesterday by QBKING and decided to give touchpal another go and with the updates i am mostly pleased. definitely improved from previous version i tried.

Swype no good anymore?

anyone notice swype isnt as accurate as it use to be before? please share if you guys dont like the new swype
If by new you mean "2.4.44" or something like that, I used it to type a long message yesterday and found the accuracy to be at least as good as previous versions, if not better.
no i definitely know what you mean, its not as "smart" as the previous version which is really turning me off; i even use the stock keyboard sometimes... its just more intuitive and knows what you mean more often then swype.
No, seems fine to me. Of course, it has to re-learn, but I use it all the time. In fact, I wish I could use it on my laptop, too!
chuk
I was using 1.61 until last week when it stopped working on me. Someone gave me the good advice to google for Swype 2.4.44 and when I found it, I downloaded it and it works fantastic and the best part is that it is so much smaller than 1.61.
Works fine. If you have issues with swype try SlideIT and see how it works out for you
I have tried SlideIt and to be honest, I dont like it very much as compared to Swype. I have the newest version up and running on my Desire and it works great. no complaints so far.
With a little more experience now, I agree. This new version seems to be slower than the old one, causing more inaccuracy and missed gestures. Aside from that, its guesses seem a lot less accurate than before as well.
Maybe the reduced performance is related to the added compatibility with more apps that didn't work well with it before? Example would be Terminal, which didn't accept Swype backspace input before. It's still half-broken, but it's better than before for sure.
Kinda off-topic, but FFS SKYPE PEOPLE, WHAT ARE THE ODDS I MEANT TO TYPE "BERTIE", NOT "BEFORE"??? Ugh, I wish I was at a keyboard so I could launch into a proper rant about all the bull**** nonexistent words Skype suggests!

Swype will hopefully soon become a paid app and all these types of messages will go away.
In the meantime however, there are a few alternatives to Swype now.
SlideIT works well enough, but it's missing some other key features that keeps me from purchasing it.
UltraKeyboard however, I bought within 10 minutes of trying the demo. Even if Swype does make it to the Market, I'm going to be faced with a tough decision, because UK is just that good.
or you can sign up on their site..they keep opening and closing the beta. eventually you'll get it. or you can try UltraKeyboard.

Ultra keyboard has the distinct advantage over skype in that it is still a perfectly good keyboard when you are not swyping, whereas swype has no spell check and no word completion when you aren't swyping. Which makes it downright terrible for landscape where swyping is painful at best on the EVO's big screen.

Original Evo keyboard back?

I finally decided to root my phone and install CM7.
I love it, but the lack of a decent keyboard is killing me. I've searched everywhere and can't find one.
Anyone know how I can get back my original keyboard? Or at least a better one?
It'd also be nice to get HTC's camera software back.

Ultra keyboard and swiftkey are both good, available in the market. No htc keyboards work on CM as far as I know. Same with the camera. If you want those things, you'd need to flash a sense ROM. So, AOSP or Sense is the question.

You could sign up for the Swype Beta and get Swype for free.
+1 on SwiftKey, one of the best. Good luck

That's the Google keyboard, you can get the HTC keyboard off this site or make a custom keyboard. Just search HTC hi res22, I think the guy name was Jonas

Been using smart keyboard and its very similar to the HTC keyboard.
if you like the sense-like keyboard feel, try swiftkey. it is pretty amazing how accurately it predicts words. almost spooky.
i personally use the newest swype beta, and am loving it. i can type extremely fast and accurately, the voice typing is awesome and crazy good, and i can type one handed faster than i can with two hands on swiftkey. try it you wont be sorry. the beta is still open so just sign up and you will get accepted within 10 minutes.

[Q] Anyone else still having trouble with Swype on Phantom's Blazer ROM 2.0?

Never mind. Lazy search skills at work. Coffee made me search properly.
I had the same issue. I removed the Swype that came with the rom and then installed Swype Beta.
Yeah, I took care of it that way. Took me a minute to search for it. Hooray for coffee making me remember things.
I've just got the regular Swype. I guess it's time to search for Beta. I remember a thread with it floating around somewhere.
I'm having a problem with swype too. How do you remove the swype that came with the rom? I can't seem to figure that out.
To remove/install beta, you need to be rooted (not an issue here). you must also have another keyboard (Samsung keyboard is usually there) I use titanium backup to uninstall it, but I've heard other apps can handle it.
As for installing beta. You go to their website and register for the beta, and they give you instructions on how to install it. Qbking77 has a video on the process somewhere. I'd link, but i'm mobile. Hope this helps

Latest Swype update Sweet!

Just wanted to put it out there that the Swype keyboard has caught up with the best of them really nice work! Gestures and new color themes are :thumbup::thumbup:
White Hot! GS3.
I also like it's ability to back up your dictionary to the cloud. Not exactly a requirement honestly... but it's nice to have.
Cool. Thanks for posting. I wouldn't have know about it otherwise.
I like that it has the voice input like the stock keyboard now. Some prior versions I had used had that but it wasn't in the version for the SIII that I was using. Seems faster for some reason as well.
I love the latest update as well. The heptic feedback works without any lags and the feedback strength is just right.
Is this update enough to stray me away from SwiftKey?
Although I love Sywipe....I've been having problems with the latest updates.
It's started to no play well with a few of my apps; Chrome and CoPilot. It will double up on the words by itself and it's almost impossible to get it to stop. I finally had to stop using it for CoPilot.
This has only been happening on the last update or two.
I've already gotten more keyboard FCs on this update than the entire length of the previous build (2) and now there is major lag when switching between languages.
On the plus side, word recognition is improved, and it now properly inserts spaces between words on forums in the browser such as this one.

I highly doubt it
It's pretty sweet! Thanks OP.
Is the backspacing still screwed up? Won't delete whole words anymore as of the last time I used it

Here's hoping for another update. Mine takes 8 or 9 seconds to pull up three times a day.
