Now that the Desire HD and Desire Z are out, are you guys upgrading? For me, I just got the Desire a week ago and won't be upgrading for a while. The phone's good enough for me, don't want the bigger screen or the physical keyboard.
Seeing as most UK contracts are 18-24 months and the Desire has been out for 6 months I doubt anyone will be due an upgrade anytime soon...Some might buy SIM free but I won't (unless I can wrangle a free upgrade again)
I'll be sticking with my desire for a long while yet. It's a great handset. I know the specs of the HD are mouthwatering but not enough to make me part with the amount of cash they'll be asking for them.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I rather want the 6 month old Desire that I have than the Desire HD. I love my Desire except for the design of the phone and the battery. Desire HD doesn't offer a significant buff to either of those two things.
I'm too happy with the Desire to risk changing. The HD might have a bit better specs, but not that much. And besides, the batterytime on the HD must be crap...
Keeping my Desire until a Tegra2 phone with android shows up
I'll be sticking with the Desire - the hardware is only a tiny step up, and most of its features are in software anyway.
still got about 12months of contract left so i guess i will stick to my desire, cuz its an amazing phone + the hd is too big
Also sticking to my Desire.
HD is too large for me and Z has a physical keyboard I don't like.
Besides, Snapdragon 2 is kind of evolution, not a revolution, so I'll wait for next gen platforms, possibly Tegra 2.
I got my desire this week. am happy apart from the lack of storage for apps. am waiting in anticipation for custom roms that include a released desire HD rom!
Sticking with my Desire. The Desire HD is a big pay out for little improvement. My loyalties at the moment lie with Android as a superior OS to iOS4. I could be tempted away when we see what Samsung might reveal in the next twelve months to succeed the Galaxy S.
I'll stick with my beloved Desire. I don't want a keyboard, and I won't buy a phone with an HD suffix unless it's really HD. And when I hear HD, i have a screen resolution of 1280x720 or more. Yeah, I want that on a 3.7" screen. I don't want bigger screens, but higher resolutions
All I wanted from the beginning was a keyboard...
But 4 rows of keys really suck and are a big step backward, so I'll probably stick with my Desire.
Sticking to my desire...
I dont want keyboard and HD is just to big.
I'm sticking with my desire
Great phone one of the best
& i'm not interested in the other two bleh.
You guys made me feel better about my decision to dump Galaxy S and get Desire last week

Glad we made it I never regreted buying it.. except when I stare at those two damned scratches I have on my screen -.- I so miss the gorilla glass of the Samsung Galaxy S or the tempered glass of the iPhone.. but i think ill probably buy a new digitizer some day eventually...
As for the main question of the thread... ill keep mine aswell.. unless i convince some relative of mine to buy the HD on contract and i trade mine for his
I'm not. Got my Desire in June. I paid a little extra to get a 1-year contract instead of 2. Cause I know my Desire will not keep up with the real big boys for 2 full years.
I love my Desire right now and I'm sure I'll get the new HTC Sense officially or not.
The only thing I do think is that in the beginning I found my Desire huge. Now I find it quite small and kinda curious to how a 4.3" phone would be like.
I'm sticking with my Desire. Couldn't really care about the other 2, I have everything I want with this phone. All good features from those 2 will undoubtedly be ported to this, plus the fact we have a better screen is a no brainer. This is the best phone I've played on IMHO.
I'm tempted to get the HTC Desire HD but probably not getting it due to the price.
Let's see how long I can restrain myself..lol

im not on a contract, i bought mine off ebay i still wont be upgrading tho, i dont see the point with the htc glacier out end of this year/start of 2011, im waiting for that
So I want a new phone.
I found one reseller near me that has 1 incredible in stock. Apprently it's the last one in the entire northeast. I like the incredible, I like the screen, like the size, don't like battery life, don't like no keyboard.
The Inc 2 (Vivo) is coming out soon. The only differences are a 4" screen (dislike, I hate big screen phones), 256 more RAM (no difference, Dinc is fas enough for me), and POSSIBLY better battery life (which would be a plus), don't like no keyboard. Inc2 will also have Wireless charging, but I doubt it will be any good, or portable
Another plus for the Dinc is that it's a "solved problem, root exists, it's been around for a while, there is tons of informaiotn on how to solve practically every concievable issue with the phone. Inc2 will be starting fresh, so ther's waiting for root, waiting for common issues to be sorted out, etc.
So which should I get? I hate the whole "whatever I pick, I'm stuck for 2 years" BS.
Personally I like the Incredible better then the Inc 2. I agree the big screen phones don't look good and not to mention require a man-purse to carry. Also agree that the inc has a huge tech base. All kinds of ROMs and themes. Another deal breaker for the inc2 is the screen is SLCD. I prefer AMOLED on my Dinc. Looks way cleaner and crisper.
My. 02
Sent from my Ultimate 2.3.3 Incredible
Incredibles have SLCD now...
I've had an incredible since the day it came out. (4/29/10)
Its rock solid. With tweaking i can make it two days of mild to moderate use.
But if you want to go for a new phone, go for it. The incredible 2 will have 2 cameras, and a second gen processor. However, it looks plasticky, and its resolution is no better than the incredibles, so the screen, stretched out to 4 inches, will look lower quality. Don't expect great battery life either.
You might be wise to take a look at some of the other Verizon phones, like the thunderbolt, the droid bionic, etc...
The thuderbolt is even bigger than the Inc2. 4.3" is just too big for a handheld device. I have no desire to carry around a dinner plate as my phone. On paper the Shift is the best (3.8" with keyboard) bt the build quality and hardware design are quite frankly crap. Slider sucks, terrible button placement, and a crappy screen.
Anyway, turns out the incredible that store thought they had in stock, they didn't. But Wirefly says they still have some for sale (for free, too boot, since this is a new Verizon account for me) so I'll order that tonight.
Since I'm getting the phone for free, think it's worth spending the $70 for the year long proteciton plan? I'm a little concerned that they don't cover "negligent loss", although I suppose if I do lose it I could always just tell them someone broke into my car and took it.
Let me take this chance to also say you guys are a prety awesome community, I've been frustrted and posted a bunch of whiny little ***** comments, and people still help me. You guys rule
Just ordered in an Incredible 1. Was in the same boat as you and decided that I didn't need all the extras that the 2 had to offer. Seriously, at some point, it is just more gadget that I am going to use (two cameras?).
Best protection you can buy, IMHO, is a good case (I prefer Otterbox, but there are a lot of good options). The deductable on some of those insurance plans will wipe out any value the Incredible may have had anyway.
i think its a dillema
in one think, this incredible allready 1 year old, so it's basically left in feature n tech
more ram I think more great
but if you get a reasonable price for this incredible why not ?
I'm also still use my incredible as my multimedia phone, i love it very much.
If you really want a keyboard, wait for the Merge.
I thought you still had some time left to get a 1 year contract.
Why not buy a used Inc or "like new but never used"? I bought mine on evilbay that way, and it was new, just had been activated and shut off.
You could actually make $ this way. Get a new phone, like the 'bolt, or even the Inc 2, at the contract price, sell it for a good profit, and then buy the Inc on eBay for much less than the new gen phones go for. Plenty of newish Incs to be had.

Honestly for you then I think you just answered your own question. Myself I think 3.7 is a bit too small. I'd like between 4 and 4.3. So the inc 2 will be mine one day...
I just got a Thunderbolt coming from an Incredible (coming from a Fascinate). I don't think say that you can't go wrong with the Incredible. It is solid in almost all areas. I used Juice Defender and then used Green Power while using a stock EVO battery and I didn't have any isssues with battery life. The Incredible has basically the same processor and is very snappy even when compared to any of the newest phones. I bought the Thunderbolt for the 4G speed and the front facing camera. I hardly use the front camera and the 4G speed is fast but I never have a strong signal to really take advantage of it. I use wifi 90% when I need internet so 3g on the Incredible is hardly noticed (3g isn't that bad for most things anyway) The larger screen is really nice and, to the contrary of what others say, doesn't require a man purse- fits in my pocket fine without a problem. However, in sum, I can honestly say that upgrading to a Thunderbolt isn't all that I thought it would be and I would be just fine with the Incredible.
I don't know why you would buy old technology at this point - the incredible is almost a year old. After having the incredible and using it more and more for browsing the net, I wish I had a little bit bigger screen. Maybe not the size of the Thunderbolt but tthe incredible 2 size would be perfect. Also, I upgraded to the extended battery on my incredible because the battery life is unbearable IMO even with root and custom roms. I haven't looked but I'd hope the Incredible 2 will have better battery life.
Finally found someone who had one in stock, wirefly.com had them, and it was free with a new line of service, which I needed (I'm coming from Sprint). So I sprung for the year long protection plan. Phone should be here Wed or Thu. I got 2 weeks to back out if something comes up.
meh... Incredible 2.
Id would go for the Incredible 2. It has a superior processor and more ram. Also bigger screens are not that cumbersome. If my friend who is 4'9" 90lbs and always wears tight pants with small pockets can lug around his Galaxy S all day I don't think its a problem. Also the DInc is being discontinued, after the gingerbread ota don't count on it getting newer versions of android except through custom roms, which will also die down when the devs get their upgrades. Not to mention all the other under the hood things HTC may have overhauled such as the motherbaord.
The 2 is a world phone you might want to get the thunderbolt that has the new sense UI and it'll get 2.3 update before the incredible. I'm on my incredible bow and love it but figure I would give you q little info if your planning on getting a new phone.

I just got my Inc about a month ago so I'm stuck with it for a while, so far it's worth it to me, it gets the job done.
Incredible 2
I'd wait for the inc2 because of the front facing camera 768mb ram newer 1ghz snapdragon processor and 4 inch display which is a perfect size not to big or small and because it is a world phone and because it will get more updates than the original incredible THE INCREDIBLE 2 might even get the rumored Android Ice Cream Sandwhich which the incredible one will not get and the incredible one might not even get sense 2.0

I bought my DInc off of CL for 200 back in December, so Im not stuck on a stupid Verizon contract. If you dont care about those things, then wait for a DInc2. My only fear about DInc2 and the Thunderbolt is that it may be severely locked down, which could hamper ROM development.
Thy have their pros and cons but if it is between the Incredible and Incredible 2 I say stick with the original. I2 has some cool extra's (2 camera's) but because the screen is larger and the resolution isn't any higher it won't look as sharp as D1.
If you want a newer phone I suggest the Thunderbolt or the Droid Bionic (that thing looks like it could be awesome!) but if you are fine with the incredible for a cheaper price it is a wise choice.
The HTC Desire has been a pretty great phone for me, love the physical buttons, and the rooting scene is very very much alive.
Just wondering, will there be a phone that have the same size as the desire, but with updated internals like a dual core processor and more ram? Seems to be trend for bigger screens and any dual core phone is usually 4" and up.
What do you think?

The new samsung is so light you don't even notice the screen size difference in your pocket. Personally I would like to stick with HTC but if you were looking to buy a new phone right now nothing comes close to the samsung in terms of sexiness/thinness and lightness!

Doesn’t the Sensation have a 4.3” screen compared with the Desire’s 3.7”? I mean I’ve tried to use phones with screens 4” and bigger but it just doesn’t fit right for me....

Thats the thing really, I’m not looking for a phone right now, I can wait for another year or so. But I have always had my eye out for new phones. My 1st smartphone was the 1st gen metal iPhone, I used that since 2007 till my job required me to have a phone without a camera. I got the Desire mainly because I wanted an iPhone-like OS and that I could easily remove the camera module without damaging the rest of the phone. But I’ve fallen in love with the android OS and the amazing variety of phones there are in the market.
HTC as a company is great. I think they’re moving in the right direction. Just that their new phones have locked bootloaders and well, the rooting community is what I really love about the android platform.

Yes, and I agree - I want one with the same physical size as the desire personally...
I want a phone that's quad core, 32GB internal mem, 1GB RAM...
BUT
I want it smaller and thinner than the Desire, and have a battery that lasts a week with heavy use
Seriously, guys - it's not gonna happen. You want more features, the phone will get bigger and have crap battery life. Just enjoy what we have as this is a golden age for mobile phones
Sensation will be my next step.
The unibody is awesome and the specs are too.
I stick to HTC cause I just love their hardware and quality.
[Mobilerit]
I think it's worth waiting till Q4 to change for me, love my Desire and am very keen to have physical buttons(not keyboard) on my next handset but unfortunately it looks like the top handsets will no longer have them.
I'm with the OP on this one. I love my desire, still do, but am keeping my eye out for the next desire-like phone. I suppose the htc desire s is the next logical step, but from what I've been reading, it's not that drastic of a jump and therefore not worth the upgrade. I would have to say htc dropped the ball on this one. The desire s will not reach the same popularity s it's predecessor simply because it doesn't bring enough improvements to the table. While the sensation seems to be the next flagship, the large size, insufficient ram and internal storage are deal breakers for me.

Sensation seems to be the logical next step, though gaining root access and S-OFF is a bit of a problem at the moment. Last summer when I bought my Desire, I knew I would not have to change my phone until dual cores kicked in. Well, they came a bit early I'll probably keep my Desire for a year or two more before I move on to dual cores.
I do keep hearing that dual-core processors and Sense 3.0 are not optimized, but that won't be much of a problem once the device is fully rooted and ROMs start cooking. Think of how innocent the stock Desire feels, if you ever for some reason turn back to it. We have a monster now. So, it's all up to devs to figure out a way to root Sensation. After, it's golden.
rant... Disregard...
I was thinking on buying the HTC Sensation but its too big for me...
HTC Desire S didnt evolve much... and I love HTC Desire buttons...
Ill be waiting till IceCream Sandwich!
I know its v picky, but why has HTC switched to shiny buttons for power and volume? They look so tacky. One thing I love about the Desire - it looks muted/classy, not shiny shiny.
On the S Nexus S, I was surprised how little I noticed the increased screen size, v different to the Desire HD which feels massive (there's only a .3 difference, isn't there?)

So, had the One X since release date, always had HTC before this. But after having all the issues that have been described here on xda, I spoke to my network (3 uk) and they have said that so long as its within 28 days of the 4/4/12 that they will either replace it for a new one or any other model that they stock.
Now, I'm a flashaholic. I do not want to use the HTC unlock method, always relied on the very clever peeps here for "alternative" ways of s-off. But as it seems the biggest team of Revolutionary aren't working on the One X. I'm considering leaving the HTC brand and moving to the Galaxy Note?
Have any of you guys left the note to come here? It looks the part on paper at least?
Anyone else from 3 UK willing to take the plunge if the offer was sat there?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I think you shouldn't switch to the Note...
Sooner or later there will be a S-OFF tool.
The NOte is IMO too big, but that's your decision. The other reasons why I dodn't get the note:
- DPI is not as high
- the PenTile thing, this means the display has 33% red and blue subpixels. some people don't notice, but I do: there's not a single straight line. it appears as if every other row of pixels was shifted by 0.5 pixels; I just can't stand it.
I highly recommend you to check if that's a problem for you before getting it. Just saying
P.S: Even though the One X isn't perfect, it's the phone the closest to perfect I ever had.
Iff i waz you id go for Gnexus over note the note is ridiculously big my sister has it as a work phone
Mod or Die
see the thing is i am on Three UK as well. and i had the choice for my two replacements i had so far to go for a different handset. and both times i got close going for the gnexus. now all this hype about quadcore for me i am sorry i really did not notice it so far with the HTC one x...yeah apps load faster than ever but 50% of the apps stuck in loading phase...anyways still a great phone i say and i am more than likely to stick with it because i am really liking stock Sense now
but i do miss overclocking and undervolting and also using an AOKP rom...tough decisions to make one thing i do hate about this phone is though why HTC locked the bootloader..why not just unlock it..
Note no way man stay clear of that huge thing..no no no
Hmmmm? Thanks for the replies folks. As for the size issue (that's what she said!) Im not thay concerned, saying that I've never held one! But I currently have a Advent Vega, that if the Note could replace might be a good thing? Kinda streamline my tech, save me carrying 2 devices?
But aswell as a flashaholic, I'm a sucker for POWER! 1.5ghz quad core vs 1.4ghz dual core? I feel in a real dilemma, I love HTC, always have, but the ONE X has, so far, let me down.
@Dobbi, I will look into the red/blue pixel issue, I have now been spoilt by the quality of the one x screen! It is nice.

all honesty mate...it is like cameras..more megapixels does not mean you are going to get better picture. same with the quadcores..so far i would say and yes i know i might get flamed for this my s2 dual core felt bit more snappier at times compare to the one x. so if you are really a flashaholic then maybe the phone to go for is the gnexus...the development for that phone is crazy...but at this moment of time i still will go as to say i will stick with the one x..this must be the longest time i gone without flashing
In all honesty too........my Sensation felt better than my One X.
Please don't go mad at me people. I not a massive sense fan, so that was always the first thing that went once s-off was achieved and all the roms about seem to be sense based or desensed. Not AOSP. I respect all our Devs massively and I am not clever enough or do I have time enough to even begin to learn how to build roms from the ground up using AOSP. But even the sensation was lacking in these roms.
Oh man. I may have to have a long hard think about if I'm ready to leave HTC.

Note is excellent don't let anyone put you off it, I've played with it many times and the size is a sweet spot. I've had the S2 before the HOX and don't find the HOX that much of a jump in size. It's nice the 4.7" but the 5.3" of the note gives you some more real estate.
You get use to the size after a while.
I'm holding ship with the HOX for the time being the only phone that can sway me away will be the SGS3 only if it excels the HOX but for me it'll be down to the software side and not hardware. Sense > TouchWiz.
I'm in a similar situation only that I've not ordered my HOX yet and I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus. My biggest issue is to be frank all the problems you guys seem to be having with the htc , i dont care what people say you should NOT be having these sort of issues with a final retail handset. I jumped to samsung with the galaxy s2 after years of htc handset (android & wm) and looking back I'm glad I did. How can anyone defend this locked bootloader policy? seems like the days of simply plugging the phone in and flashing straight from the box are gone for htc which brings me onto samsung.... everything is geared towards flashing there phones, hell Ive even got a £2 clip which unbricks your samsung should anything go wrong With all that said I always a space in my heart for htc just a shame this whole mess may have put me off this time round.
Come next week when I can upgrade I'm 90% sure I'll order the samsung note partly for the reasons above and partly because it is such a sweet device despite the PenTile display which is not noticeable, trust me
oh and dont go for the gnexus if you use any games what so ever the gpu is crap and the main reason I switching (missing my psx gaming fun)

What about GTA for starters? Id say anything thats abit better than the norm and your screwed :/
Right. I'm going to go into the 3 store to play with a galaxy note, along side my One X and compare them in real life usage tomorrow.
Real life usage, not stats on paper, not benchmarks, just what feels best. C'mon HTC don't fail me after 4 years of brand dedication.
Report back tomorrow peeps.

Let me know how that goes. If my One X replacement still has issues I might swap for a Note too.
I've used both nexus and note. Of the two the note is far better. After a day, the size is no issue. Plus the screen looks great, battery from what I've seen is good, but there is noticeable scrolling lag when compared to the one x.
That being said, the slight lag is not bad enough to deter someone. My dad loves his note

Isn't the Note still running Gingerbread. So performance might not be as smooth as iCS.

I know this sound... a little 'meh'
But... I dont know, And thats why im posting this thread. Because I wanna know.
I was an owner of HTC Desire. That was the best phone that I had, I tot I made a wrong move of not buying iPhone 3gs, but i made a right move. It have had many memories... Thats where im exposed to XDA and have this rom tweaking and flashing obsession. It come to the day when I broke my Desire, It fell down from my pocket while I was running on a rainy day. I cracked the screen and leave it open and let the rain goes inside my desire. It broke my heart soo much.
After that I bought Galaxy tab as my second phone, then S2, Then GNexus.
After getting bored with Samsungs, It got mainstream. I go back to HTC and I made the right move again. Mind sharing ur stories guys?
I liked the screen and it has a quad core processor

It started with using my friend's Galaxy S (first release) that made me love the Android ecosystem.. then had time with HTC Wildfire,,, den jumped to Wildfire S.. as u said with Desire,,I too began to be obsessed with all those rooting & flashing stuffs and wanted a huge upgrade from that.. hence got my One X,,white in color,,beautiful,,vivid & powerful.. ) so happy with my One X... And yeah, I'm still using my Wildfire S along with a Nokia..

only got mine because at the time i needed a new phone and plus they were giving me a good deal plus the handset free so i thought why not..very happy with my One X so no point thinking about upgrading at least till say next summer the latest..
gorgeous screen, sound is amazing when listening to music and i just love my phone.
Swapped my GNexus for mine
iPhone 3GS(Total BS!)> HTC Desire (Great phone but the colour and design depressed me when it got old) > Samsung GS2 (Loved it but just wasn't enough)
Then I couldn't decide weather to stick with Samsung and get the S3 or Get the One X... Took me a while to decide but ended up buying the One X (Great Decision!)
Started with the legendary HD2. That's when I start to make love with Android. I can spend hours reading how to flash custom rom on it. Then the digitizer broke because of the design's flaw. =\ Touch screen doesn't work anymore. Early this year, my dad asked me to choose either iPhone 4S, Galaxy S3 or One X. Decided to go with One X because of the Tegra 3 Quad Core plus the design and I hate Apple's restriction. Don't have any interest at all with S3 since I kept thinking it as cheap plastic . Honestly I was disappointed with One X at first because of WiFi and Screen Flickering Issue but I got my replacement phone which is a lot better and now letting it stay virgin until I'm sure there's no more hardware's fault.
I had a Desire HD and an Acer A500 tablet. I saw the difference in Tegra and non-tegra devices, so as soon as HTC launched a tegra device, I had to have it and my contract was ending . Also I have a GNex at work so the screen of the S3 was a no-go for me (even if it had a tegra cpu). I was a bit disappointed that the unibody wasn't aluminum, but I'm glad it still has a premium feel and not the one of a glossy plastic.

Because it was a deal so good I would have been sectioned if I refused (straight up trade for my Sensation).
I wanted a touch screen phone that had a large screen, I have large hands and just cant cope with the size of the iPhone. The other limitations of the iPhone annoyed me as well, but the ability to type in it was the biggest downer for me. At least with the one x and other 'droids, you can swap the keyboard for Swift Key or Swype etc... as well as the keyboard area been larger and better for bigger fingers.
I went via a Bold 9900, thought that would be better for typing on, which for me, i guess it was but missed a lot of apps.
One X is the best for me at the moment. Good selection of apps, good screen, quite quick when scrolling. Always felt there was some amount of lag on the iPhone 4 that I had when trying to do stuff.
S.
Because I love HTC phones and Sense, so I always get their flagship device. I had to go through 3 before I got a faultless device but now I have 1 I'm not disappointed.

Best screen + best processor for mobile gaming + htc sense
The slogan "Quietly Brilliant" turned me into HTC desire which its quite true, We are brilliant and 'quiet' about it.... Compared to you know that fruit company.. With that, I keep buying HTC stuffs... Addicted.. I just hope that next time there will be another Nexus device by HTC
Had many dumb phones, before finally getting the awesome HTC desire and wow that was a great phone even
Now still compared to those silly iPhone things. It was just so simple with Android and the look of sense is great aswell as
The abillity to flash aosp roms. Would have stayed with desire if it had the ability to run sense 4, but it has seen its best days
And the developers have moved on. So looked at a change and it came down to sgs3 and hox, took some time but in the end I hot the
Hox and the wife got the sgs3, but very happy with my choice.
i love HTC + One X design + HTC Sense + OrdroidX i just miss S-OFF then it would be awesome
Love OneX
I came from a retired Droid X, one core processor, low resolution, great camera (by those times), with CM7, etc.
When I realizaed 4 core precessors where about to release, I decided to upgrade my phone.:fingers-crossed:
I used to see reviews from this phone, and I start to love this phone little by little. So when I finally see the opportunity to buy a new phone I didn´t hesitate to choose One X.
Now I´m quite happy with this phone (the screen, camera, beats eq, processor and body design are a beauty), I also start loving the sense skin, so elegance and funcional. But the best thing to appreciate is all the devs that give us the opportunity to customize and become our X´s better.:victory:
Please hit the Thanks button if you like my comment. I need them to participate on other posts.
I got mine because my desire was playing up, htc sense, quad core and a big screen.

Tegra games! And also the gorgeous screen (not really a fan of AMOLED)
Because coming from an HTC HD, I wanted Tegra 3 power. And since HOX was the first and the nicest phone with that chip...
Because I dreamt (still am) about using my phone as a netbook with 3-way booting (Windows 8 ARM, Ubuntu, Android) with an MHL cable and small-form BT mouse + keyboard.
I've been a HTC boy my whole life and wanted the latest and greatest at the time. Quad core and screen size tops it off along with being a big follower of the venom team which make any phone better
