Hey Guys, I have searched for this but I cant find an answer so I just wondered...
Say for instance I made a Nandroid backup in Clockwork Recovery 5.x and then my friend who has Clockwork Recovery 5.x and the exact same device HTC Wildfire (Buzz) used my Nandroid backup in the same directory but on his SD card then would Clockwork Recovery be able to recover his device from my Backup?
Thanks in advance.
Yes it will work. (Barring issues like MD5 mismatches etc. You should be preferably be having the same CWM version, and, if possible, he should use your SDCard to restore, since, there are cases when you transfer Nandroids from once place to another, they don't play nice)
Anyway, another alternative is to simply use fastboot. Assuming your friend has S-OFF'ed his device via Revolutionary, he will simply need all the IMG files from your backup, and, that should definitely work irrespective of CWM versions, and other limitations.

I'm fairly new to Android as well as Linux, but I was curious about how the PC36IMG.zip and nandroid backups relate to each other. I'm planning to flash the latest rooted stock PC36IMG.zip (1.47.651.1) and then a nandroid backup of what I'm currently using which are a combination of ROMs and patches with baseband 2.05.00.06.10 and 1.47.651.1, will this cause compatibility issues?
At a higher level, what does a PC36IMG.zip write and what does a nandroid backup write?
The PC36IMG.zip is actually a special ROM, the first which allows su permission, and the second which allows full NAND unlock.
The Nandroid is really just a way to backup and restore the images that are on your phone when you perform the operation.
The PC36IMG.zip is used to unlock, and custom ROMs available in the dev section are used after getting full root to the phone.
so basically, before you flash anything, you do a nandroid backup incase something messes up. Then you use the PC36IMG images to obtain root, then you go to the dev section and pick a custom rom and flash it
And to answer you question, doing a nandroid restore after you flash something (I think) is pointless because it replaces everything on the partitions (except possibly the radios but I am not sure)
Hi
I'm an HTC Hero user trying to help my friend to root his Desire. I thought it should be exactly the same as with Hero but seems like there are some small differences get me confused.
1. I rooted the phone with unrevoked3. I'm used to AmonRA recovery and I cannot find nandroid backup in ClockworkMod recovery neither the SD format options. How do you backup the flash in ClockworkMod?
2. I downloaded the AmonRA image from here and tried to replaced the originally installed ClockworkMod but I can see no change in the recovery menu. Anything special should be done before changing the recovery?
3. Can you forward me to some Desire ROM comparison so I won't have to go through thousands of post to find the right ROM (I've already done it for my Hero, don't want spending so much time again).
Thanks.

clockworkmod does have a nandroid option, as you can see in the screenshot its 3rd from bottom!! there is also a quadrant rom comparison in the development section i think...
First issue is that for some reason, my wimax.img created when making a nandroid backup with ra 2.3 is only like 2,000 kb or a little larger. I understand from a previous post that wimax images are usually around the 12,000kb mark. When I backup using Clockwork, the resulting wimax.img is just over 12,000kb leading me to believe it is a good backup. This all came to issue a month or so ago when I thought my keys were gone. I ended up finding a few old backups on my pc, one nandroid and one clockwork, both of which contained the wimax image. However, when I nandroid restore the nandroid image, key checker said my keys were present but I wasn't able to connect to 4g. I then restored the clockwork backup and was able to connect to 4g right away. After further discovery in the backup folders, I found the nandroid wimax image to be just over 2,000kb while the clockwork image was over 12,000. I have tried to reflash ra recovery but it still only creates a 2,000kb wimax image. What is wrong????
The second part of the problem is that when I try to switch to clockwork from Rom Manager, it won't do it. It is stuck in RA!! Therefore, I cannot get into clockwork to restore any of the images I backed up that way. I had this issue in the past only I was stuck in Clockwork and couldn't get into RA. At that time, someone sent me a PC36100.zip (of RA recovery flash) which I put onto the root of my sd and flashed in bootloader, which allowed me to access RA recovery again. Why does it get stuck?? And, does someone have clockwork in a pc36100.zip format I can boot from?
Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!
ok heres the pc36img for clockwordmod that you flash from hboot/fastboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=575257&d=1303478367
and for first issue try falshing an older recovery of amon ra then the newest amon ra 2.3
Great Jadden, thanks for the help. Do you by any chance have a zip of an older version of RA as well? What adverse effects will there be by downgrading? Can I recover a backup made in 2.3 with say 1.8? Are they 100% compatible?
By the way, is there any way to tell how big the wimax image is that the phone is currently operating on without making a backup of it? Some type of terminal prompts or something?
Sorry I don't have an older version of Amon-Ra and I don't know of any terminal promts either
Hey guys, so I'm a noob and need a little bit of help. I just downloaded this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219407
Now, what do I do with it? Also, will I lose all of my data by flashing this onto my phone? (ie: my texts and my homescreens, etc?)
Thanks!
are you rooted? if not...

once you have clockwork recovery and all that, boot into recovery, 'flash rom from sd card' (after putting the zip file on ur sd) and ur good.
If you dont want to lose everything, after root, download titanium backup and run that. you will be able to apply most of your stuff back on once you flash a new rom.
howbout some thnx -.-'
I'll give you some thanks for that succinct explanation of steps to take.
I'm ready to root with unrevoked - guessing I should use the "flash and recover" version instead of their "forever" one?
I installed Titanium backup, which I'll use after rooting to backup pretty much everything that it can grab.
Then, I'll use the SD card-based install that you mentioned.
I've read that I should do a full wipe before installing the OTA ROMs being offered - is another tool needed for that, please?
- ooofest
You've got it. The newest version of Unrevoked has made the "forever" one obsolete.
You will be able to perform all the wipes required from within Clockwork Recovery.
Also, make a clockwork backup (nandroid) as soon as you have root, so if you run into any problems flashing roms you have something to restore.
Hi all,
I need to recover some information from my phone from before I flashed a new ROM, and wondering what's the easiest way about it based on the scenario given below;
I was running a rooted stock ROM (LB) with TWRP. I used titanium to batch backup my apps ( but seem to have overlooked my notepad app which had info in it that I now need.)
I installed resurrection remix which comes with CWM so can't just do a new nandroid, then restore the old one to get the info, then re-restore the newer backup.
Is there a way to extract the info direct from my twrp backup on my SD/ laptop or do I need to/is it possible to flash TWRP to replace CWM and keep the rest of the ROM as-is?
TIA
If you are just recovering a file, and not restoring the backup itself, try using nandroid manager. I can extract a file from my nandroid backup (created by cwm). I never tried it with twrp nandroid backup though.
Other option is to try to flash the Dual Recovery on your phone.
Then you have TWRP and CWM on your phone.
