Anyone else noticed that the official update has now been officially released for those who got their Hero from Orange?
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=675&news_id=261
I'm intrigued to know whether this ROM has the 'jumping landscape keyboard' bug. Wonder if there's anything of interest here for Paul's next MoDaCo ROM.
Yup! I posted the link elsewhere on here, and on various the sites, too.
I did the upgarde, and so far all is good. Not experienced the landscape keyboard bug yet though, so maybe they fixed it?
I can't say the speed has improved as much as people have said for other upgrades, such as Paul's (which I did try as well.)
Nice find....I was waiting for the next iteration of modaco's rom before I changed the rom....but might as well use this one until then.
Keyboard bouncing bug only occurs in the web browser in landscape mode when the search button is pressed. Could you please recheck and let us know then..and make sure you type something b4 you can confirm.
Would be nice if someone could get this uploaded somewhere, like rapidshare or mediafire.
Hi guys!
For all the unlucky Orange users,
I have an Orange branded Hero and I was trying to download the ROM but nothing it happened!message: Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.
Any ideas or Does anyone know when Orange release the new firmware update?
This just came from Orange, based on email query to their website:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Hero handset.
I am sorry to learn that you are unaware of our process regarding ROM updates for Orange phones. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
I would like to advise that you are only able to process ROM updates for an Orange branded handset directly from the Orange website and not direct from HTC themselves, this is due to the Orange branding that you have on your phone that allows you to use this on our network.
Please find below a link to our website where you are able to check in the future if a ROM update via Orange has been released.
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Sa...96364420640&product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1
I have also supplied below the required steps that you will need to take in order to organise an update to your phone. Be advised to follow the on-screen instructions as it will give you necessary and required information regarding your phone.
"your phone's features" > "download software updates" > "how do I download the latest software update" > "HTC Hero ROM update"
When a new ROM update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to Orange so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this ROM update they have released will co-exist with the Orange branding that you are required to use on your phone.
It is possible that the new ROM update that is released may not co-exist with the Orange branding and thus we will not be able to release the ROM update for the HTC Hero, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could affectively be detrimental to your handset and Orange will not process for this reason.
If the ROM update version can not co-exist with the Orange branding then we will wait for HTC to release a new ROM update to which we will restart the testing process accordingly.
Be aware that it is not possible to advise of any estimated timescale for the testing of this ROM update by Orange, furthermore, we can not guarantee that a ROM update will be released at all regarding the HTC Hero as the ROM updates that could be released may never work alongside the Orange branding on the phone.
Because some of this information is speculative and based on situations regarding the testing of ROM updates that may or may not ever be released by HTC and the time it takes to complete the testing of the new ROM updates, please accept my sincere apologies that we can not be more specific regarding your query.
If you are experiencing difficulties with your phone then we will need to run a diagnostic check to ascertain the cause of the problem. As this is a question and answer process, we are not able to diagnose problems by email. Please contact the Helpdesk on 150 from any Orange contract phone or 07973100150 from a landline.
One of our specially trained Customer Service Representatives will be happy to help with any difficulty you may be having with your phone. If the phone is diagnosed as faulty they will be able to advise you of your options. We are open from 8am to 10pm 7 days a week.
Please have your IMEI number to hand before you call. This can be located on the barcode within the battery cavity on the phone or by keying in *#06# from the Orange front screen.
If you experience any problems contacting our customer services, please can you email us with a phone number so we can contact you and arrange to transfer you to the relevant department to assist with your query.
I trust this information clarifies your query.
Kind regards
Wendy

Can somebody please upload this to rapidshare or PM with a direct download link ?
i´ll add it to the official ruu update thread then.
EDIT:
Never mind, done
now available here:

Does anyone know if it's available as a .zip file so I can flash it as I do with Modaco.s Roms?
Will it unroot my phone, and can I get it back by just re-rooting it as before?
cheers

Quick question...
If i install the Orange update what do i lose ?...
e.g does my SD card get wiped... is it just like getting a brand new phone etc...
I am pretty sure its going to work like the Win Mob Rom updates... but just wana make sure
Well i went an updated... seems a bit faster... but i also notice there is no Java ?...
Was this ment to be included or was it left out on pupose for the Orange Rom...
Umm, i have noticed that when changing the Sense UI it takes a good few secs when you press to move an idea, it takes longer than it did before.
Anyone know about the Java etc ?
Cheers
MDX
after I installed this I cant root, got not permitted and failed(tried to install fonts)
then downgrade to modaco version - works fine
what is the problem? new catch by htc?
htc will close any doors.........
but if you look on here your fine another door open
Installed, did reset first – went without issue. Hero noticeably faster, and more importantly for me the signal appears a little better; at home I was getting one bar and dropping out in different areas of the house, now I see 2 bars dropping to 1 with only a couple of no signal areas. Glad I upgraded.
Managed to get through the Error 132.
I got the error using Vista, using XP there was no problems.
I successfully upgraded to the new Orange ROM last night. Anyone else now unable to add new Google Contacts directly from the "People" app? The "Contact type" drop down now only has SIM and Phone in it
Am I right in assuming that a factory reset won't restore the factory ROM?

Nope, I've got the upgraded Orange ROM and I still have Google Contacts as well as SIM and Phone.
One quick question... are you logged into Google? I've never tried using the phone by not being connected, but its all I could think of.

Hi guys, just tried updating my ROM to the new orange one and am getting Error 155. Iv had a search and cannot find anything relating to this. Has anyone else come across this?
Thanks

Yeah, I'm logged into Google. My phone sync'ed with Google contacts during setup and allows me to view and edit Google contacts, just not create new ones The only thing I can think of is that I got my Google password wrong the first time during setup, but that shouldn't cause any on-going problems.
This evening I've noticed that it won't connect to my Wifi network if broadcast SSID is turned off. It works fine when the SSID is on. I've turned the SSID on/off several times now - whenever it's off the phone just won't connect.
I'll try doing a factory reset and see if things improve...
I was just wondering if there were any drawbacks to debranding a phone just to get the update?
I have done some searches and nothing has come up so far for this question.
Thanks!
Oh and as you know that the big plus for debranding is that you can get NoDo.

Eh, I dont know what version you get when you update officially but it may be different... I really doubt there's any drawbacks though.
That's what I am gathering and it makes sense if Microsoft wants to keep the WP7 together as a whole.
Thank you!
The drawback is you don't get updated apps from your carrier + phone manufacturer. But all you have to do is rebrand it and just download the apps from the market, if you really want them.

Now that is what I was expecting. I have my phone unlocked with the Chevron tool and if in the future I can't add back that string then I am hosed?
Will I at least keep the registry editor on the phone through the update process so I can then change it back?
Thanks for the response!
If you do the little hack to prevent re-locking (via Samsung Tools or the registry edit), the unlocked state should persist across the NoDo update as long as you don't do a hard reset. You won't, however, be able to use Chevron to unlock if you hard-reset the phone or otherwise manage to re-lock it after installing NoDo.
As for carrier apps, I can still access the AT&T AppCenter, useless as their stuff may be. That's either based on a different registry entry or on your SIM card, not on this update branding entry. I haven't been able to discern any effects other than whether the update servers will give you the updates or not.

All of your information will be backed up and carry over to the new update, don't worry about that.

Do you know where that regedit is off the top of your head? I never applied it in the past so I have always had my Chevron unlocked phone relock after a week or two.
I will also look around here but thought I would ask you first.
Thanks for helping out everyone!
EDIT: And yes AT&T doesn't have many apps that I care about but I do like their account login app to check on how many minutes and texts that I have used.
EDIT 2: I found the Samsung Tools that you were talking about. Here is a link to the page for anyone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497

MyAT&T runs on any phone, as long as you have a network connection.
I think there is no drawback to unbrand. AT&T provides nothing other than update delay.
Does anyone know of the exact registry value that gets changed to prevent the relocking?
I know that the Samsung Tools will write the value but I can't find out what it changes.
I'm just trying to find it so it can be posted here and we can get it out to others before they update to NoDo.
EDIT: Found the string to keep it from relocking.

I'm starting this to help those who want to root and/or unlock their Samsung Captivate 2.2. I had to search so many forums and didnt find a thread with all the instructions in one place. There maybe other ways to do this, but here's how it worked for me.
=======================================================
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE AS A RESULT OF YOU TRYING OUT ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES.
=======================================================
First, if you're running Android 2.2, you need to root your phone in order to unlock it. I dont know if reverting back to 2.1 using ODIN, unlocking and then upgrading to 2.2 will keep it unlocked or not. I didnt try.
You need to ensure that the phone is in USB debugging mode and connected to the PC. Drivers may be needed, and this is covered in other posts.
Step 1: Root the phone. The program I used was SuperOneclick, from shortfuse.org. I used the default settings to run the program (i.e. On the Universal tab, select exploit = "psneuter" and click "root".
(choosing the "get unlock code" in this application didnt do the trick for me)
Now your phone is rooted. You will see an app called "Superuser", confirming this. This should NOT be uninstalled. Should you wish to un-root your phone for warranty purposes, SuperOneClick allows for that too... though I havent tried it.
Reboot.
Step 2: I needed to update Busybox, and while there maybe easier ways, here's what I did. On the phone, go to Android Market and download the free version of Titanium Backup. Open this program, and click the "Problems?" button at the bottom center of your screen. Choose update busybox (and you can update superuser if needed, as well).
Reboot.
Step 3: Finally, lets unlock it. Using the update.zip process, or the adb shell commands + a hex editor to read the codes from ~/efs/nv_data.bin did NOT work. The only gimmick that did work for Android 2.2 was a Market application called "Galaxy S Unlock". Its free. When you launch it, there will be a separate popup asking if superuser rights should be granted to this app. Answer yes. You might get several prompts like this. I dont recommend you tell it to remember your answer and automatically grant superuser rights to all such requests in future.
Just follow the steps when you launch it and you should be unlocked. This cool app even allows you to re-lock the phone, should you need to obtain service while under warranty. I havent tried re-locking it though.
From your phone numeric keypad, dial *#7465625#
If you see the following:
Personalization Status
Network Lock [OFF]
Network Subset Lock [OFF]
SP Lock [OFF]
CP Lock [OFF]
You have successfully unlocked your phone. Reboot and try a SIM card from a different carrier. Should boot up seamlessly, without asking for any codes.
Now that the phone is rooted, you might want to remove some of the preinstalled bloatware. FREEZE unwanted apps, do not uninstall. Otherwise, I'm told, you lose your ability to obtain future over-the-air updates.
The program I used for freezing unwanted apps is "AntTek App Manager", available free from Android Market. The free version of Titanium Backup doesnt allow you to freeze apps, only the paid version does. So I uninstalled it after updating Busybox.
When you launch AntTek app manager, there will be several prompts asking if Superuser rights should be granted to the requesting program. Choose the apps you dont want ATT Maps, ATT Navigator ($10/month to use), ATT Music etc are good candidates.
I hope this proves helpful. Feedback welcome.
thanks alot bro i did with this method really appriciate that i tried alot of method didnt work any but with your method i did it thanks
I get a "no code found unknown error" message my phone is a Captivate running 2.2 rooted. Any suggestions?
Did you first upgrade busybox and superuser using titanium backup? This step must be performed after rooting and before unlocking.
Can't think of anything else though.... except repeating the whole process from start to finish.
This worked great! Thanks for the step by step. Did it on my Captivate i896 Rogers.
question
I'm a noob, had my captivate for a few months and I am hesitant to root because I don't want to brick my phone (as cool as a few hundred dollar paperweight sounds it can't be better than a working phone) and i was wondering what the chances of bricking my phone are using this method. i have done a lot of research on rooting and i have found that sites often contradict themselves, and i figured if there was a site i could trust it would be xda, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I can offer no guarantees, so you assume the risk for whatever you do to your phone. All I can say is that it worked fine for me, and a few others on this forum seem to have had the same experience. Good luck!
will this method work for vibrant also ???
No idea. Only tried it on a Samsung Captivate running Android 2.2.
Thanks
Worked great for me, thanks a lot man!
Tried tto unlock on an Infuse, but step one keeps telling me to fix busybox or unplug my phone. Phone isn't plugged in and I've upgraded and down graded Busybox.
Any suggestions?
I recall some tips on using SuperOneclick, either at shortfuse.org or on XDA, that mention what you need to do with the USB cable if you get an error message when rooting. Hopefully appropriate search terms might point you to the correct resource. Good luck!
worked great for me too...thanks a ton
I have an AT&T Samsung Captivate running 2.2 and im trying to use it with my Verizon Sim card..... i completed the process and my network says unlocked when i type in *#7465625# ...however when i reboot and put the sim card in..i go to "settings">"about phone">"status" and under "phone number" and "network" it says unknown..and i am unable to call or text on the phone because it shows i have no signal...also after rebooting, a message saying "Sim not provisioned MM#2" pops up....please help?
Is there like a setting i need to change or what?? Anybody have a solution?
Does your Verizon Sim card work on another phone? The "SIM not provisioned" error usually appears when the SIM card has not been activated yet, or has been deactivated. Confirm that the Verizon SIM is working first. Also try throwing in a different SIM (borrow one from a friend who has a T-Mobile connection, for instance) and confirm that the unlocking was successful.
Good luck!
Alright, thanks!! I will try that!
Man, This is another thread of people kanging my code and ideas. How about show some respect to the dev that did this unlock? Rather then spit in his face.

I also have a Rogers Captivate unlocked and I am using it on the Telus network. I have found that I can not use the mobile ap (wifi hotspot) because Rogers has blocked it. Does anyone know which apk file this is or in and how to remove it so I can use my phone as a wifi hotspot?
Thanks in advance.
I got the following response:
The application cannot be tested for compliance for Windows Phone 7 Application Certification Requirements because it fails to launch on all Windows Phone 7 devices. The application terminates at launch.
However, I tested it on my own device and emulator, it works fine on all of them.
Here is a little background.
My app requires internet to run, if there is no internet for the phone, it will pop a message to let users know that it needs the internet and exit.
Currently, I am supporting both Nodo and Mango. Mango version has been approved already. The nodo version shares most the code of mango with 7.1 related features removed. The mango version has the title of "XXX for mango", and the nodo version has the title of "XXX for nodo". I don't know if this can be the cause of the problem. Can someone please give me some insights on this?
I am fairly certain that you shouldnt be exiting the application like that. Bring them to a screen/page that lets them retry or make the popup let them retry.
I am not sure if that was the problem tho. because my app has been like this since day 1, and mango version was recently certified too.
Well you can try to resubmit and it might pass...contact create.msdn.com support to get more info.
I did, it failed again. The only reason I can think of is that if its not an clean install, meaning update from an existing older version of the app, there might be some issues, since I changed the structure of the storages. but i don't know how to test it.
Maybe request Microsoft to provide some debug information to you?
If you install your previous version (hope you kept your versioning archived somewhere) by deploying to emulator/phone, then deploy the new version, it may act as an upgrade, and you should be able to see what is happening with debugger attached. I haven't released an upgrade to any of my apps, so I'm not too sure on this feature.
If you did change isolated storage (definitions, etc), that may be your problem (serialization/deserialization).
Try the Windows Phone Power Tools from Codeplex, it has options to 'Upgrade': http://wptools.codeplex.com/ and provides a GUI for browsing storage.
There is also an Isolated Storage Explorer as part of the SDK [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh286408(v=VS.92).aspx] that should allow you to see everything that may have changed between versions.
Please give me a thanks if this was helpful, it will be my first .
I think you really did provide the kind of help I need, but I don't know how to give you a thanks. Thanks!!! ( Not sure if this is what you meant tho)
My problem is that my app needs this type of changes, and I am willing to take the risk of asking users to reinstall it instead of just updating. Should I be able to do it?

I was thinking the 'Thanks' button that is attached to a post; kind of like receiving a badge for helping others.
As a user I'd probably be unhappy if I was asked to have to reinstall, but I guess if the update contains some good stuff and I wouldn't lose data, it isn't too difficult to uninstall/install again and is only a minor inconvenience.
Is there anyway you can code in to convert from previous storage structure to the new one since a standard WP app upgrade preserves the previous version?
I just did. Well, I just used the tool you pointed me. I first installed the old version of the app, open and close it a few times, check the setting file, making sure, it has the old structure, and i "updated" with the newer version, it opens fine, and I check the setting file, the file has the new structure. So it doesn't really prevent the app from launching. So it is not really the problem. Will you be interested in being my beta tester?
btw, i just "thanked" you in both the replies.

My app was rejected again. I am running out of ideas what I can do now.
Hello? Anybody still around? I hope so. I need some advice/help. I will bold my questions so they are easier to reference.
I have two identical Lumia 1020’s that I upgraded to Windows 10 using this procedure posted by hikari_calyx https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10-mobile/guide-win10-mobile-offline-update-t3527340 and summarized here https://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10-mobile-how-guides/452310-how-offline-update-unsupported-lumias-8-1-latest-10586-xxx-14393-xxx-15063-xxx-build.html
This procedure got both phones to 10586.107. However, one phone was able to get updates to Redstone automatically. The other is stuck at 10586.107. The stuck phone is my daily driver and the phone that I’d like to be on Redstone. The one that actually made it to Redstone is a spare and has mechanical issues. It was the phone that I upgraded first to familiarize myself with the upgrade process. The phones are identical except the one that fully upgraded does not have an active SIM.
Since the upgrade I’ve been spending many hours in the forums and on youtube looking for reasons why my one phone might not be getting updates and also for ways to force updates. Most posts are very old and maybe I’m late to the party, but I’d like to get this other phone upgraded.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
1) Since the phones are 1020’s I had to modify the “OEMInput.xml” file to get past a bug in the update process. Following this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10-mobile/guide-how-to-fix-windows-update- issue-t3697172, I was able to continue getting updates on the one fully upgraded phone. Since I cannot get updates at all on the other phone, I don’t know if this will work for
it yet.
2) I checked that all my registry settings are properly set for my model:
PhoneManufacturer=”MicrosoftMDG”
PhoneManufacturerModelName=”RM-1085_11302”
PhoneModelName=”Lumia 950 XL”
PhoneHardwareVariant=”RM-1085”
I examined the source code for DHTUpgradeAdvisor and I think this is all that should be set.
3) I tried the Windows Insider App, to be sure I’m getting updates but it when I click the “Get preview builds” it throws a Server Error “A connection error prevented us from downloading programs for you. Please check the date/time of your device and its network connection and try again.”
Of course my date time is correct.
I tried reinstalling the Windows Insider App. Same problem.
I did notice a difference between the phones here. When I open the Windows Insider App on the phone that fully upgraded it shows “Go to Settings” instead of “Get Preview Builds”. The phone that fully upgraded has a “Windows Insider Program” link under Settings>Update&Security. The phone that refuses to upgrade does not have this link. The app does not work on either phone. Why is there a difference between the phones here? How can I get the Windows Insider App working again?
4) I’ve tried to add the provisioning for Mobile Enterprise, but I can never get it to show “Enterprise” in the about section. The package does appear in provisioning. I’ve tried multiple .ppkg files. None have worked.
I did see in a post that you must opt out of the Window Insider Program. I’m not sure how to do this since I cannot get into the Windows Insider App. Also it mentions that the SIM should be removed. I did not try this.
Is there a registry setting or something that can be modified to change the update rings or opt out of the insider program? Or does the insider app associate my phone with my Microsoft account and I need to login to my Microsoft account and somehow disassociate it there? Does the SIM really need to be removed?
5) I had the idea to make an image of the fully upgraded phone and then dump it into the non-upgraded phone and then hard reset it and recommission it. I tried to make an image with Windows Phone Internals 2.8. I am able to unlock the bootloader of the upgraded phone but I’m not able to get it into Mass Storage mode in order to make an image. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have only a basic idea of the phone hardware architecture so I don’t even know what to try next to get an image. Any ideas?
Is this idea even feasible? Is it possible to take an image from one phone and dump it into another effectively cloning the first one? I wasn’t sure if there would be problems with hardware (MAC addresses, etc) mismatches with the software or not. Anyone tried this? Should I pursue this more?
6) The next option is to pump the updates into the phone offline. I am not clear on how to do this. Of course I know how to use iutool (as long as it behaves) since I used it to get the phones to 10586.107.
There is a guide to updating offline here https://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10/windows-10-mobile/w10m-builds-update-links-collection-cab-t3234805. It looks like this is mostly a guide to capture the cabs for posterity. For upgrading, it’s not clear to me how to begin. There are links to some update cabs in the post, but also this link: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=RM-1085_11302. It has info, but I don’t know what I’m looking at. This is where I get confused. Are these even the cabs I need? Are these update cabs independent of the phone model? Can I just grab the cabs within those links and copy them to my PC and then update my phone using iutool? Do I need to do all the updates in order or can I skip ahead? How do I know which ones I can skip over? What is 000-88 based vs 000-HK based vs CTM-MO based devices? Do I use iutool as I did before (keeping the same files in place and just overwrite the cabs with the new ones)? I see these questions partly answered in the subsequent posts, but I’m still unclear of the cabs to use and the order. This method seem like it’s for people smarter than myself and has a high risk of trial and error and brick potential. I’d rather figure out how to get the proper update pushed over-the-air if possible, but if someone has done this method on a 1020 successfully I might try it.
I would prefer to not have to do hard resets or rollbacks if possible since I feel like I'm very close to getting it to work (It worked on my other phone naturally).
Thank you to anyone who is able to answer any of my questions and give me advice on which of the above methods is best to pursue!
I’ve never posted to a social media site such as this, so if I’ve posted wrongly I apologize.

If you want to upgrade to higher versions, just go to https://www.wpvision.de/tourniquet and download the "Phone Updater" there. With that you will be able to update any Windows Phone 8.1 up to 15063.297.
You might get into some trouble because you already modified OEMinput.xml. But overall you do not need to do any registry editing to get to build 15063 (Version 1703).
I registered on the wpvision.de site. I am waiting to be accepted for membership so that I can view the posts describing the functionality and operation of the phone updater. I'm not able to access much of the site, so I cannot tell how helpful this will be yet. Thank you for pointing out this site to me; it is one that I have not seen before.

I was able to fully update my 1020 with the Phone Updater from wpvision.de. It works very well. I would recommend it to anyone still looking to update an unsupported phone.
