If you have no backups of a Rom with your RSA keys then I say your SOL sorry . Unless you have a backup that you checked WiMAX in amon ra then there's hope and you still have it then you would be fine

Well make a backup of your current rom. Plug phone into pc mount as disk drive go to your nandroid folder on your SD card then to the backup you just made now drag the Wimax.img into the nandroid. Unplug phone restore the backup that you just put the Wimax.img in and see if you get your keys back. Also make sure its the original wimax.img and keep a copy of the original if this doesn't work and that its not a zip file

hmm. I don't really understand. I do have a backup after I lost my keys. I am a noobie so I apologize. can you tell me step by step how to reinstall the keys. There has got to be a way to do it. I used the adb to backup the keys and everyone said to back them up. Someone has got to know how to do it. I really would like to figure this out and not just give up unroot and get a new phone. That seems pretty lame.

Well you don't flash that zip. Go back into recovery, then backup and restore > restore > then select the wimax zip, and you should be good to go.
And in the future, anytime you need to restore a backup, you do so from the backup/restore menu. You do not flash them as roms.
I'd recommend renaming the backups so you know what it is.
You can't rename the HT....folder, but the folder inside that looks like BDS.2001...if on amon ra or 20112511...if on cwm, can be renamed. You can you periods, underscores, and hyphens. Spaces are INVALID and will cause the backup to not be able to restore.

ok. so i took a look at my file and it is called rsa_oem.key
can I do anything with this???
I don't have the wimax.img file....
Am I screwed here?
I used the adb program to back up the keys and that's what I got.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do I have to find a way to generate more keys???
The rsa_oem.key file is useless to restore a borked wimax. You need the entire back up image from like amon_ra recovery.

Ok, now that I'm rooted I'm confused with all this information spread all over the place. Do I need to do anything essential from here on out? I did a backup to SD cad from VOL UP/HOME/POWER.
Do I need to backup or change anything else? I'm just like sitting here rooted.
Is there something I need to backup or save for future use? Do I need to protect myself somehow from carriers detecting I'm rooted? I'm looking at all sorts of FAQ's and honestly its overwhelming and confusing. Can someone just tell me in plain English what I need to do next? Not even thinking about custom ROMs yet.

You made a Nandroid Backup of your Stock Rooted Rom. Now as an extra precaution you can copy that backup to your PC \ Laptop. As for Rooted Roms, there are many to choose from. If you want to stay close to Stock, but good extras. You can try TPR ( The People's Rom ) . If you want Stock looking, but insane built in customization. You can look at M.O.A.R ( Mother Of All Roms ) . If you want completely Customized, Themed, and a Ton of built in Extras. Then JellyBomb is a Rom you need to check out. All of the ones I mentioned are Rock solid daily drivers. But they are by no means the only ones around. Also as stated above. If you have a lot of Apps, Titanium Backup is never a bad purchase. Just be careful what you restore.

Thanks for the info. What is the difference between a TWRP and Clockworkmod backup? I have the option for both
Not sure alt twrp. From cwm na.driod backup perspective, copu the backup.woth date to your pc. Cwm backuo is lifesaver you will come to knoevwhen you soft brick and restore. Also you can flash through odin vol down instead of up its called download mode. Check xda for suitable firmware rom for your phone. Hope this helps. Thanks button makes you first one for me

Forgive spelling mistakes that was my first past through xda dev app.
Basically cwm backup is otherwise called nandroid backup. Odin flashes firmware and wipes data in the process in my experience.

Now I would just continue to read and learn from all the good threads and people around here. From this point forward its really just what you want to do. Take it slow...and remember never ever flash international roms or roms not meant for your device.

They are both CWM, and TWRP great Recoveries. IMO it's a matter of what you like, and what your Device likes. From my experience it is slightly dependent on your Device. Some Devices work better on one Recovery vs the other. Thankfully it's fairly easy to switch between the two. Especially using The Recovery Switcher.

Hey ladies and gents of the xda community, so I installed factory image 4.3 for maguro (without g wallet) flashed my twrp 2.6 and then used the supersu exploit that was made labeled [SuperSU-JWR66N-S005-130625-1.41.zip] to root my phone, yay it worked(kinda), tried titanium backup to remove system apps like Google currents and was told could not locate apk. So I searched and searched and found this post that the same op said to download [UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.43.zip] so I flashed that.
This is what I keep getting from TB:

Is it just titanium backup? Or the root exploit?
My build is the JWR66V for maguro(obviously).
Can anyone help? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
SOLUTION EDIT : apparently it IS titanium backup. I manually removed them with root explorer (/system/app, /data/app) and it went great.

It's titanium backup use any root browser to remove the apps i assume you can get Jrummy's root browser it can remove those files, why it says it can not locate file is due to being removed once "with titanium backup" the apps are being moved to /data/app/ thats why tb can't find the apps located since its "magically moved" to /data/app/ kind of strange and i think its Superuser or App issue from Titanium backup 4.3 that isn't fully compatible

Did you change the location of backup folders? If so I'm not entirely sure. I used TB to uninstall apps, I usually just backup all my android/data and android/obb on my PC by copying with USB, never really liked using an app for backups. I tried on stock 4.3 and it didn't work so I just located them myself with my root file manager program.
Sorry I'm not of much help, I'll see what links I can dig up!
Thanks! Actually I need titanium backup more for restoring apps like games and kindle where I want to pick up where I left. No worries, I think it is a titanium backup problem, which will probably be gone when they update their app for android 4.3

Works fine here on 4.3, titanium backup has always worked like normal on 4.3 for me an I haven't had to change or fix a thing.
Hmmm, that's weird, I also flashed 4.3 from the yakju factory image via fast boot (and wiped my data too). I also changed the backup path from 0 to legacy. Did you try uninstalling systems apps using tb? Mine will give an error and I had to delete the apps manually via file explorer.

I never wiped my data when flashing the yakju 4.3 factory image as mskip toolkit gives you the option to keep it like a normal ota would do even when flashing full factory image.

My tibu backup folder location is still in 0 location not legacy an system apps can be uninstalled an restored just fine on 4.3.
Interesting point, though i just to check and my 0 and legacy folders are still mirrors of each other (as it was in 4.2), so I can access my tb folder in either and I'm not sure if the problem is here... Actually I wiped my sd card intentionally to start 4.3 on a clean state, thought this would result in the least number of problem...

Yeah I'm not sure either, I also flashed the Google yakju with fastboot and I DID try uninstalling a system app with TB first. This should work on any ROM, any recovery. AOSP, TouchWiz, Sense, MotoBlur, Xperia, whatever.
The very first thing you should do is check the md5sum to make sure it matches itself to ensure that your backup is good to begin with. Because if you use this method without doing that you could restore a bad backup and that may do more harm than good, use at your own risk. Or you can just restore the backup to make sure it's working correctly.
Then open a file browser, navigate to your backup (it should be in the clockworkmod/backups folder on one of your SDs). Open that up, then find "nandroid.md5". Open that file, it should tell you it can't open it and give you an option to "Open As", pick that. Then choose to Open it as a text file. Choose the appropriate text editor (you should have at least one installed, the screenshots are from ROM Toolbox, download it... It has all the tools you need). Delete all the text inside, then save. You are now done, no more md5 mismatch.

On this device it's usually because the nandroid was made on a different recovery than the one it's being restored on. I just do this for every nandroid and don't worry about it anymore.
Thanks bilgerryan. I'm sure it will help many.
One thing I would do first (being a backup nut) is:
Once you've created a nandroid boot into the system and check it via an MD5 checker - I use the AFV app. That way you know it matches 'itself' and is valid as can be for that recovery.
Then go ahead and clear out the info if you plan on using other recoveries - like switching between AOSP and TW etc.
I know we don't have to worry as much in the past but even 'good' recoveries didn't always perform as they should and create incomplete images.
I really hope some people read your post before asking/complaining about mismatches but that might be too much to hope for and we'll just have to see it in the 'facepalm' threard.
Thanks again Ryan for all your work and support!

Their own app was not restoring data for me, did you ever try it?
On Gummy now and way happier, may actually keep the device now. Can't believe how much nicer the touch response is, will be watching battery today but may actually keep the device now!
No haven't tried to restore data yet with own app but I hope it works if I need it.

I try this one, but I have not try to restore yet ...
There is a new ota update for the find7a, and it looks like it fixes the TB issues. Try it out.

Also be aware that if you install the release software version of 1.2 (001) Ti was working. You can then create a folder on your sd with Ti before updating, update to 002 and it will work. Both there and after updating to 003 but you have to create the folder on 001. I haven't tested 004 yet.

It's OK for me after installing the new release of ColorOS 1.20i (004)
Thks for the news
Glad you solved it. It seems to be fixed for most people, except maybe those who tempered with the stock rom a bit too much.

Hi everyone
I have a problem. I am on the X9006_002_140419 version which the phone came with and I am not able to perform a complete TB backup with it (known issue). Now I tried to upgrade to the nevest OTA version by using the stock recovery. Only problem is that the OTA wipes all data.
My question is if there is a way to upgrade to the newest OTA without loosing all the app data. Is there an OTA version (003 or 004) which does not wipe all data?
My phone is rooted and I am using TWRP 2.7.0.0 custom recovery.
Thanks everyone for any help.
Best,
Ascenca

Anybody tried My Backup Pro? Not sure if that works on 002
I don't know about others, but I've updated through 3 OTAs for v1.2 and I haven't lose my apps and settings yet.

Me neither.
But I think that oppo's OTA doesn't work with TWRP recovery installed.
So, people who use that kind of setup must use a modified version of the OTA file to update the phone through TWRP, and maybe that wipes their apps and settings.
Well what I did was reverting back the recovery to stock recovery and then applying the original otas. Although I did it that way it wiped all my apps and data.
What I did now was a full wipe and installed the full 003 package, then the 004 ota and reinstalled and setup all apps.
Result: TB is still not working although I am on 004 which should work with TB. Any further help?

Hi, The only way I could get it to work was, Full wipe and then install full 001
package but did not allow the phone to sync any data, then I let the phone perform the ota update of 004. I then installed TB and tested if it works, which it dose, then I let the phone sync and install my apps and tested again.

100% working!!!
I recently installed an app from the app store and when I opened it my phone froze and eventually rebooted into a loading loop. I was able to get into save mode and uninstall the app but the then couldn't get out of the loading loop.
I then booted into TWRP and restored my nandroid backup from 5 days before. The install said it worked and I pressed reboot but I only had a fresh install of Cyanogen. I tried again and it was the same thing.
I then tried restoring my titanium backup of apps and settings. Everything seemed to go fine but when I rebooted at the end I was given the same loading screen and couldn't get into the OS.
Please help.
Did you try formatting the system, cache, dalvik, and data before restoring the nandroid backup?
I didn't. Does that normally cause my problem?

Sounds to me like you only restored the system portion of your nandroid. Or that was the only part backed up.
It depends on what you are restoring with titanium. If the backups were made on a different rom do not restore any system data and settings. User data and apps should be fine though, unless theyve been corrupted.
Can you flash a rom and install your apps normally?

I attached a pic of my settings.
When I restored I booted into twrp, selected restore and selected my most recent backup.
I was able to start with a fresh cyanogenmod and restore just the apps and data.
I would still like to restore my nandroid as its more current.

Anyone know my problem?

Go look at the actual files to see exactly what its backing up. Ive never used any method other than creating the nandroid in recovery. So I cant say much about scheduling one, but depending on what youre using to schedule things its very possible it could just not be working right.

Ok thanks. I'm using online nandroid backup if that makes a difference. Should I just be using the regular one? I already purchased the Pro version so I can schedule the backups.

I just tried extracting my apps from the nandroid backup with titanium backup. There were none.
How do I ensure they get backed up? I have my online nandroid set to normal.

Tbh, I'm not sure. Maybe @audit13 or someone will know. I've never used it so...
If no one here can answer that, I'd contact whoever runs it. You paid them and should get priority support. Hopefully anyway.

Sorry, I don't use Titanium Backup either. I haven't had an s3 since May of this year and can't comment on TWRP on an s3 either. I do know that I had problems installing some ROMs with TWRP. Once I switched to Philz Touch, the problems went away.
I use TWRP on my Nexus 4 and it's been so good I don't feel the need to use any other backup program.
Thanks for the responses. I'm still waiting on an email from the developer.
