I actually was able to get the hulu plus app to work on my epic today. I have a Gtablet the hulu plus app works on. I used titanium to backup the apk and the data on a whim, copied the backup from the titanium folder on my gtablet to my epic, and then used titanium to restore the app and data. This of course means it restored my log in and everything, which is why I cannot post my file. I tried the app and it didnt say that it was not a supported device. I went in and it would play ad free movies, but anything that had an ad would not play. I remembered that at one point I had trouble with media through the sprint proxy so I dialed ##3282# on my dialer, selected edit, entered my MSL and then clicked other, then media, and changed the RTSP proxy to 0.0.0.0 and the port to 0. I backed out and rebooted, and the hulu plus app worked on all shows and movies, and plays the ads now instead of giving me a network error. Perhaps some dev would be willing to look at bypassing the device check? I would be happy to provide logs when I get home. Also, I will check to see if I clear data on my hulu app on the tab, and then back it up, if I can clear it and log in AFTER restoring on the epic, if I can do that, I don't have a problem providing the files. I am on ACS ICS V4. Perhaps someone with a device that works with hulu plus could try to duplicate my results?

Ok, I tested this by logging out of hulu plus and then backed up with titanium. I need someone here to test this on their phone. You MUST be on gingerbread for the app to work. I have included the 3 files that titanium backup makes when it backs up an apk, because the of the file format restriction all three files are in the attached zip file. Once downloaded you need to extract and copy the files onto the titanium directory on your sdcard, and then open titanium backup. You need to select the hulu plus app to restore and restore app AND data. Wait for the app to restore. Then you need to go into your dialer and dial ##3282#, select edit, enter your MSL and then click "other", then "media", and change the RTSP proxy to 0.0.0.0 and the port to 0. You probably want to write down the proxy address and port incase you want to restore them later. Once done, save and reboot.
**If you don't know your MSL** Download an app call "Connectbot" from the market, it's free. Open it up, click on SSH and select "Local" and connect. type "Su" and hit enter, if your prompted to allow SU access, allow it. Then type "getprop ril.MSL" . The six digit number that is then shown on the screen is your MSL. Write it down somewhere SAFE.
Let me know how this goes and I will help where I can. I am running ACS ICS V5 with the Samurai 1.0.4 kernel.
Lastly, you must of course, subscribe to Hulu + for this to work in the first place..
Just ran your suggestion and can confirm it works on my Epic with thunderhawk 3.1. Thanks now I have another TV app besides Netflix.
Edit 1: after trying to watch past a few seconds to test video it seems to stick on buffering when the first ad pops up

Mine did that too. I had to make sure that there was no ad block software there and reboot a time or two when i set it back up, but it did work. Now, I don't seem to have issues unless my 3g signal is super slow
adblock
Ah that may be my problem. I got an adblocker(installed by default) on the phone will remove and retry.
Not sure if happy there's finally a method or angry it took so long to figure out.
But thanks so much for the files. I won't say nothin' to no one.
I can confirm that it does work on clean gb 15

Make sure you revert your hosts file before uninstalling
Sent from my G Harmony v2.7.2 using xda premium
Would you be able to give me your host files i forgot to revert them when I uninstalled Adfree. or is there another way to revert back to original?
What we need for this too work, is a specific mod to the host files to only allow ads on this app...
also a simple flashable to do those other edits.
That would be ideal

Reinstall ad-free and then click "revert hosts", then you can uninstall it again
Does streaming brake when you log into the app? I don't have a plus account but I did install the app and restore data, everything worked. I just had to revert the host file with ad free, but everything that was free to watch streamed perfectly. So was there any purpose for changing the proxy or whatever in the phone settings?

This works for me on CM7. All I had to do though was restore your files and log in to Hulu. Very nice to finally have, finally!
Well Hulu wants to update now from the market and I am thinking that will break it. Any feedback from others on that?

I havent gotten the update notification strangely enough. I would hold off. I can update tonight after work and see if it breaks anything.
Constant Buffering
Was really excited because I thought it was going to work for me (ERA Legendary RC2), but once I get in, I'm only getting the buffering like others have mentioned.
I don't see where I have "ad-free" on my phone, is it possible that it is another app blocking it? Where exactly would I find it?

I dont live in a 4g area so this is hard for me to test. When i was away for work in a 4g area i noticed some web pages would load and some would load halfway and stop. Im rooted running evio rom from caulklin. After playing around for a while it seemed once i uninstalled ad free the problem went away. Can anybody else confirm this or have a fix? Thanks!
Anybody? I cant be the only one.
Can you list some of the site you were having issues with? I use Ad Free and live in a 4G area. If you give me some specifics I can test it out for you.
Yes it does. Noticed this a couple of months ago. When using 4G and ad free, a site will not load passed the first ad. It will get stuck in the ad tag and prevent the entire page from loading. Using 3G or WiFi the site will load. 4G really isn't broken as you can use it for anything else that requires a data connection but you won't be able to load pages with ads.
For example, on 4G, load espn.go.com. It won't load. Now load the adless espn mobile site. It will work.
This is an interesting problem, because Adfree does not interfere with browser operation on 3G or WiFi or with non-browser apps. The issue is specific to 4G and browsers. There must be a simple work around?
Wow I have been having the same issue and did know what the cause of it was. My first thought it must have be the custom rom that was causing this issue. I will uninstall Ad free to see if the issue does in deed go away.
Update: Yup, that did resolved my issue. Thanks OP
AdFree merely replaces the hosts.txt file in the \system\etc directory. Are you guys implying that removing AdFree restores the stock file? I'm having this web page loading issue but I manually swapped out the hosts file without installing AdFree...
If so, that's a tough decision...no ads or full browser......
How did you get the original hosts file. I need it because my uninstallation of adfree didn't fix my problem with the browser not fully loading pages .

Dzammm!!! Fixed a problem I've been worrying about for the past two days in about 2 seconds! Thanks for the help bro, my browser is back to acting correctly.
Hello,
Today I've been experiencing the following error with YouTube:
I can access the application fine, browse videos, search videos, access my YouTube account and favorites, etc... everything perfectly fine.
When I tap on a video it starts to load but then it stops and displays "Unable to connect to server - Touch to retry. If I do as it says, it just keeps that cycle.
Now I can stream videos just fine and prior to today I could watch videos without issues. My app version is 2.2.16.
Things I've tried:
1. Pulled out battery for 5 min.
2. Cleared app cache and data
3. Uninstalled the app and cleared Cache / dalvik in CWM then reinstalled
No luck. I haven't had any luck of it working under 3g or 4g, still haven't tested wifi (not at home at the moment, but will edit and report back).
I'm running Stock EH06 rooted odexed.
Attached is an extract of my alogcat that will have some fishy errors regarding Youtube, any assistance is my appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

your data connection might have been too slow where u tried.
Yes, it may have been a bad data connection..ie down tower. I just tried same version on wifi and mine works. Try wifi and see how it works. If you delete the app, use root explorer and search for youtube to make sure you get all remnants of files as well then reinstall from the market.
OK so its hard to believe that the whole state of MA is full of bad 3g / 4g internet towers, again, I can access internet just fin and normal speeds. (been driving around several towns and still the same result)
I got to a wifi location and it works... I will try deleting all instances and files I find from the app, but what other suggestions you guys may have if this doesn't work?

Tried it but YouTube was already located in data/app... so I did it the other way around and no dice.
I ended up reflashing the ROM and getting everything back up and running from scratch, and now everything works normally. Don't know what it was really but, must of been the amount of hacks I was performing over the weekend with it, something just didn't play nice with YouTube...
Thanks all for your time and efforts!

Hmmm...I am on Bonsai B14 EG22 ROM and my Youtube updated and works fine. Must be another one of those half works half don't things.
Guess so, the updated version didn't work for me on EC05 or EG22, but I'm not complaining since reversing the update remedies my issue.

I take no credit for this guide. i found it on the nexus s 4g dev section.
Master Ramy is the O.P.
so any shout out, fist bumps, high 5's, hitting of the THANKS button- make sure to send them his way.
im always going to remote areas with no service. its always really crappy when gps fails and i have to pull out the fishing, hunting, atv map out from behind the seat.
this isnt going to fix all my navigation issues, but it should help.
i hope many of you find this useful. i havent tried this yet but it suppose to work with all androids.

below is a copy/paste from the link above (just trying to spread the love)
[GUIDE] GPS without Data signal!! Works on tablets too!
credits to Coycane, he showed it to me, I'm just giving you the guide.
I use it on my Xoom with great results, so I can follow the car the whole way without needing internet as long as I open maps when on internet.
The way it works is simple; a Garmin GPS unit doesn't require internet to get you places, so why would your phones GPS? In reality, it doesnt.; the GPS hip can b programmed to communicate independently with the satellite, allowing you to be more Mobil without needing Internet!
But maps needs internet to start, so what I do is open maps, get my directions so they're on map, then I can turn off internet and the GPS lock will stay and follow me.
Its very simple; starts out the same way you'd do a prl hack;
1. Get your MSL number. Do this by getting an app from the market called terminal emulator. type in: su (hit enter) getprop ril.MSL (caps sensitive, then hit enter) your MSL will be there. It will be a 6 digit code. Write this down for later!
2. Install drivers for your device on your computer. Look up a Youtube tutorial on how to do this. It was the hardest part for me.
3. Download QPST. Link is below. On your computer, extract the QPST file, open it up, and double click on setup. Go through the installation process.
If you want to make a nandroid, tho it probably won't backup this section and I doubt ull have issues anyway, now would be the time to back up.
4. Go back to the phone and open up the dialer. Enter this: *#*#8778#*#*
5. On the menu that pops up there will be a section labeled "USB". Change it from PDA to "Modem"
6. Back to the computer. Hit the start menu and open up device manager. Double click on "ports" and you should see your device there. at the end it will look like this: (COM#). Write down the number at the end of the COM.
7. Hit the start and search for QPST and open it.
8. Now go to "start clients" and hit "SERVICE PROGRAMMING". It will ask what port you will be modifying, just click your device and hit ok.
9. there will be these tabs with CDMA, CDMA-2, ESN, etc. Click on the one that said "GPS or GpsOne". On the left check all boxes, usually phone has only 1 checked. REMEMBER what ur phone originally had checked in case you need to go back.
10. Finally, hit "write to phone". The phone should reboot, and you're done!
11. Once it boots up, go back to the dialer and enter the *#*#8778#*#* code again. Change it back from modem to PDA and you are done!
QPST: http://www.x-drivers.com/catalog/fla...pst/12051.html
Make sense? And no, this hack is not dependent on any particular phone or tablet, should work on all androids; worked on my Xoom perfectly. Try it and best of luck!
Let me know if u have any questions or need any help. I've found it extremely useful on my wifi only Xoom because I can always know where I am without having to tether from phone first
Enjoy,
~ Master Ramy

doesnt google maps already do offline mode? and im pretty sure you can use gps with data off or else there wouldnt be a point in having offline maps, but im not 100% just a though
yeah google maps have an offline mode if you saved the map of whatever location you wanted beforehand. But, i'm not sure whats the purpose of this mod because GPS works without DATA already... so maybe its for preloaded maps? I got lost reading the OP and decided to breeze through the comments but that didn't really clear things up lol.
My GPS does not work without data...
Going to give this a try
Some other benefits of GPS working without DATA being on is using the phone as a golf gps. Battery drains pretty quick over the 4-5 hour period and not having DATA on could save a lot of battery. I tried using a golf app without data and it didn't work or maybe it was just the app.
I am unable to get the MSL # on both my TouchPad and GS2, I know others are having this problem as well. Has anyone found the reason and a solution? Thanks in advance.
Yesterday I had some apps that had new updates on the play store, so I started to update them.
I started seeing one wouldn't go through because it was giving "Package file invalid". So I tried over WiFi and same issue.
Got home and looked at my two tablets (Nexus 7-2012 and asus tf101) and they were having similar issues with updates, but different apps. I was also even getting download error #497. Sometimes just trying over and over again would work but now it seems like some apps just wont go due to the errors.
I tried clearing the cache/data of play store and download manager as google suggests, but that did not help. I've tried to use google's contact us form but I type this lengthy description of my issue and it tells me that I need to type more... (probably a glitch in their contact us form...) So I cant get something sent to them.
My girlfriend just got the S4 for sprint yesterday and now she is having the same issue, some apps wont download due to invalid package.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions on what can be done? Anyone think this is a issue on google's end?
Also, of my devices only the tf101 is rooted at the moment. Had some issues where I had to do factory restore on my GS4 and haven't rooted it again yet, and nexus 7 I kept reverted back to stock to get official 4.3
If they're system apps use a root explorer and delete them and install them again (if they're available on the playstore) if they're not then install them delete data and cache and remove your account and launch playstore and sign in and it should fix it... Remember if u delete an app with a root explorer you have ti reboot for it to take effect... And also fix permissions...

ive also been having errors with this. im on revolt 8/6 build and using PA gaps. but i have also tried with normal gaps, and get the same. its funny because it only happens with certain apps, and the apps that have the error change everytime i flash a different gaps. And yes, it even happens on newly installed apps.
Though to fix, i just turn off wifi and use data, its inconvenient but its a workaround until the actual problem is identified

I dont think that will work because if it happening across multiple devices with and without root then I'm thinking it's a issue on Google's end. Plus my phone is not rooted anymore.

go to play store, open menu go to settings and there is an option for auto update. I believe the default is to update over wifi only.
I was reading something earlier tonight (after having problems with 10.2 unofficial and getting error 497 with every file I tried to download) that Google was having problems with a few different ISP's and the Play store connections. Some people with the Nexus 7 (2013) were getting this error straight out of the box. Updates sometimes worked via Mobile network, but WiFi would fail with an error code or say package invalid every time.

Yeah, I just saw some articles on it finally. Sounds like everyone is reporting the same issue no matter what version of play store etc.
Use a VPN. Apps that refuse to update on my Wi-Fi network seem to update or download successfully if I use something like Hideman or Hideninja. I've not had problems with either. I can't vouch for their security, but Play Store reviews seem mostly positive for each. I use Hideninja VPN because it's free without time restrictions whereas with Hideman, you're limited to 5 hours each week and the shortest length of time you can activate is a 1 hour block.

I use Hideninja VPN because it's free without time restrictions whereas with Hideman, you're limited to 5 hours each week and the shortest length of time you can activate is a 1 hour block.

I had read about using a VPN over the weekend, just needed to find a app to use. Hideninja did the trick and my apps all updated finally.
The hardest part was trying to download hideninja... it wouldn't download on my phone haha but luckily I have helium on all my devices and its set up with my google drive so it thankfully downloaded on another device.
when i wanna play youtube always get "connection to server lost, touch to retry", i'm in sprint stock rom with mobile package data active, for internet is no problem, on wifi can play, when i tethering my phone as modem and i connect to my computer for play youtube is ok. it just cant play only in a phone.
somebody can help thanks.
Did you try clearing data and cache in apps? Or even uninstall and reinstall the app itself
sent from my GS3
Usually I just exit the app, hold the home button and clear all recent apps and then it works again.

Easy fast simple solution when this occurs and usually after an update. Just uninstall the app completely and then go back to google play store and redownload the app.
Have a great day!
I have been tried all the way ( clear, uninstall update etc) but still error... I tried to install other program 'tubemate' still cant connect /play the video, but when i download the video first and play later is no problem..
Maybe something wrong with my data package on my carrier??? Hmmm..
Thanks for all advise...

Im getting the same thing on my tablets now (nexus 7 and 10). Uninstalling updates solves the issue, but then again I want the new sweet app... Any solution for this?

Remove (uninstall) the app completely, go back to play store and get the new updated app again fresh install.
Have a great day!

Same issue here. Reinstalling doesn't fix it.
Edit: But disabling Adblock Plus does fix it.

Ty, I've been hunting for a solution for some time now, and I didn't think of something like that.... It is true, when I disabled AdBlock Plus, I didn't see the error again.
Guess I either need a replacement for Adblock Plus, or something in it's settings to change?? hmmmm.
Again though, thanks again!!!!

wow thanks for this. It's been driving me insane. I removed Adblock Plus and it worked. So I installed AdAway and rebooted. Seems to still work fine also. So try that ad blocking app out. So far so good.
Solved ! ( apparently not related to AdBlockPlus)
To make a long story short, I don't have AdBlockPlus but i DO have DroidWall installed.
just forgot I had to allow "MediaServer" to access the internet (as well as YouTube of course) - problem solved.
This has been happening to me. I fixed it by going to manage apps. YouTube, Delete cache, delete data, uninstall updates and I clicked the turn off button. Ran cleanmaster app and removed junk files. Then I rebooted and turned youtube back on and now videos will play. I'm on the Galaxy S4 stock.
Hopefully this helps someone
By the way Facebook wouldn't play any videos it would say "can't play video" and now Facebook is playing the same videos that it couldn't before.

Thanks that did it for me as well. Have been searching on the internet but no real solution for people with a firewall or a privacy app (pdroid/xprivacy etc). But this made it work on my S4.
Thanks!

How about upgrading from that dinosaur you're using? Gingerbread is like 4 years outdated.
No AdBlock, Firewall, root or custom ROM
I have stock device 4.3 android (not Samsung btw.). As i said, no adblock/firewall/custom rom etc.
When I updated YouTube app, I got that connection problem.
I've tryed reinstalling, changing DNS1 and 2, clearing data... Nothing helped...
Any suggestions?

It's happening to me now too. But since mine's installed as a User App and not a System App, I can't just uninstall the updates, although I did try uninstalling it completely and reinstalling. No joy.
I've tried a dozen different things. You should know that lots of people post lots of "solutions", but for 95% of the users, none of them work.
I'm hurting especially bad, because it happens to me on both types of connections (4G & WiFi). I even tried a 3rd party YouTube app and that wouldn't work either.
All this since today's (or last night's?) v10.25.57 YouTube update!
I am running a Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy (SGH-M819N) Mega
KitKat 4.4.4 (Stock), Rooted
Thank You.

Hi,
I tried disabling AdAway and reverting back to the original Hosts file, but no joy.
This time, it's affecting both my 4G & WiFi connections. When this happened before, I could at least watch it on 4G.
The weird thing is, that if I'm not signed in, I can watch videos. But once I sign in, EVEN WHEN USING A 3RD PARTY YOUTUBE APP, I have the problem!
Yes, eventually a YouTube update will come through that will fix it (could be 6 months or so), but I'm thinking that something "underneath" it all got updated/changed at the same time, because otherwise;
Why would it affect me only when I sign in?
And if it was limited to only the YouTube app being updated and there isn't anything else being changed at the same time in the background where you don't see it, then how could 3rd party YouTube apps be affected when you sign in to them with your Google (Gmail) account?
See what I mean? Something else, "under the hood" simply must be going on, amen?
