Bit of a noob question here, tried searching and found squat, and it's not really my area of knowledge..
Would it be possible to get some system apps such as Browser, Launcher2 etc. from ICS onto GB? I tried... and failed lol
anyone?
They would need compiling for the Rom from source

The GB ROM should have the ICS Framework.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
Nope
No Matter what it won't work! All system apps in ICS cannot I repeat cannot be used in Gingerbread.
Whats the reason for this?
Google has developed a new API source for ICS which does not work on 2.3 and lower, Thats why when you rip a App from the ICS and try to install it to your Gb, what happens is it appears as Problem Parsing Package etc...Thats because the new OS has an updated source of API's
But here are a few stuff you can get for you gb which is ideal
ICS Camera " search up in market "
ICS Messaging " Search up in market "
CC 3D (ICS) Launcher " Impersonates ICS On the spot, awesome but the 3d View kinda ruins it.
Find it also in the market.
ICS Gallery " search in market "
Hope this helped

New music app. Not sure if this belongs in this section, but did anyone give the new music.apk a try that has leaked? I read it belongs to 3.0.

3.0 = gingerbread i saw a video of the music app looks sick. i havent got my hands on it yet tho
3.0 honeycomb. I just installed it and I can confirm it works with the newest OTA. Its a mix of 3D gallery, coverflow (when the phone is held in portrait mode). Basically if you saw the last google i/o conference about the music app, its that same app
EDIT: just did some more playing around with it. I can't wait for the google android music app for pc to drop. It links itself to your phone through your gmail account. The option to play streamed music is in the settings of the app. And yes it does look really good. About to see if the androind music app is somewhere to be found. I hope revs start cooking this in their roms. It has been confimred to work only in froyo and gets a parsing error in gb

2.3 is gingerbread. I heard they were working on Honeycomb but wonder who leaked an app for it when Gingerbread hasn't hit OTA yet. If it works that's cool

Can someone move this to the apps section please. I'll attach the music apk later
I posted the apk in apps and themes!!! I read it was for honeycomb and it has another program to test wireless streaming which doesn't really work (or i cant figure it out) it has a similar theme to 3d gallery if held in landscape mode. I posted it like a day or so ago so its on the third page of apps and themes or search honeycomb music .apk

Theres the link to the .apk. Be sure to install it using Astro or some other app manager.

Yeah I just read that myself. Honeycomb will NOT be 3.0 (which is a major) but a minor update (2.4)
After playing around with the music app, I hope they are adding more to it because, at this point, it is just a UI update.
EDIT: Had to do some more reading up on it. Gingerbread and Honeycomb are both UI updates with Honeycomb being the updates that enables Android usage on Tablets (meaning making Android better suited for tablet usage)
works so far on cm6.1.1

Hello!
Is there any possibility to get the old Froyo-Phone app to my gingerbread rom?
I liked the function, of t9-like numpad searching for a contact.
The Gingerbread phone-app does not have any kind of search function, that sucks.
Any ideas?
Thx!
I think that the Froyo app is made by HTC so no. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I was looking for the same. Check Go Dialer in market. Gives you what you are searching. Not the HTC 2.2 dialer but search thing work same way
Hello, thanks for your hint with go contacts! Now i am looking for something simmilar to the htc galerie app ... the gingerbread galerie is to complicated in mx opinion ...

I dont know on which custom ROM are you but if you are using ginger villain check villain setup app and there is some 2d gallery. I didnt use it but you can find other gallery apk file to install it.
Try QuickPic from the market instead of the gallery app

yup..cm7 is far easier to install..and there is also an FAQ page to guide u in every single step..
CM-7 non motoblur
I def recommend cm7,its gingerbread 2.3.4 ,without moto blur customizable no need for overclocking apps everything is set by defult and themes that make the phone apps transparent

Hello everybody,
for some days I've been using ICS on my SGS.. Everything is very smooth and good, but I miss the camera functionality of the JVU-ROM.
I've tried to simply copy over the odexed camera.apk to my ICS-ROM but it is not even shown in the launcher.. So I can't start it!
Anybody else tried to use the JVU camera on ICS? Interrests?
put a "[Q]" or "?" in topic title :/
btw,
I think is impossible. cause Samsung's camera app use framework and I never seen Samsung's Camera app in CM or ICS or MIUI ROMs.
perhaps you are right, haven't found any posts due to this thematic..
does anybody know a good alternativ from the market? with the nice panorma function of samsungs camera app?

Is not impossible but it is not allowed by Samsung -due to copyrights.
That's why didn't see Samsung apps (not only the camera) in cyanogen or miui!

I think that would be no problem, because I payed for those apps as I bought my SGS and if I use this app on my SGS nobody can say something...
The camera app should not be in CyanogenMOD or MIUI but a flashable apk for those who want to use it on AOSP-ICS for SGS would be a nice thing.. I will try a little bit around with this

I'm not a expert on these things but I think that thev interface of the app isen't totally dependent on the android version, like for example the new youtube app has a similar interface to that of Ics apps and ICS galery is modded for gingerbgead, but still if you want the exact apps from, ICS to Gingerbread it's logical to asume that it is not posible, for example the same version of gmail or of any app loks different case of the sistem (with apps like S-voice for example it's only possible if google mackes a modded, downsized wersion of it)
