Hi there to you all
These days i am wondering about an uncommon question...
is there a way to modify the Signal Strenght Threshold?
i live in an area which has poor 3g reception (~-113 dbm to -100dbm ) while 2g signal is quite good (around -70 dbm)
can I set a higher threshold in same way on 3g only or a global one,(around -100dbm) so the Dhd will stop switching btw 2g and 3g signal in that area ? i have tried Gsm auto Prl and don't want to lock it to 2g
That threshold is Kernel or Radio + Ril related ? any way to direct hexedit the value or i have to recompile from sources?
thank in advance ,
Matt
ROM Android Version 2.3.5 (Runny 3.3)
Kernel 2.6.35.14 RCMIX£D-ACS-ACE V11
Radio + RIL 12.62.6027U_26.13.04.19_M
In some Kernel i have seen wifi threshold tuning, but i haven't seen the same for GSM / WCDMA.. are these settings in the same place?

Ok, so, from what I gather, when you set your baseband to auto, it should automatically switch between 3G and GSM depending on signal strength right?
Well, my phone won't do that. It only uses 3G (unless I manually switch to GSM), regardless of signal strength.
Any ideas?

Hello all,
I just want a little info about the network signal that displays in the notification bar. My phone mobile network setting is on GSM/WCDMA auto. Normally in phone info it says that the network type is on HSDPA. Today i noticed that i lost all signal bars and the network type says UMTS.
Does the lost of all signal bars mean that i have no more 3G and have reverted to the next lowest network mode but can still receive/make a call (i didn't test it) or simply does the signal graph scale with the current network mode or is it global?
Signal strength was at -101 dbm, i change network mode to GSM only, i got all my signal bars and strength was at -79 dbm
Thanks
does 2g or 3g affect how many bars i get for the signal?
The bars will show you the signal strength based on your current connection, whether that be 2g or 3g - so no it won't affect it
Hey all - working with a Telus i747m running CM10.
I've noticed that when the phone detects an LTE signal, there's a noticeable period of no signal between dropping the HSPA signal and starting to use the LTE signal. Is this normal behaviour with your network? (It makes sense to me - the phone would need to switch radios, after all.)
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Hi,
Over the last 24 hours my connection has only shown 3G as opposed to H in the statusbar. What's weird is when I check the connection in Settings > About Phone > Status it shows HSPA+:15, occasionally dropping down to HSDPA:8. I'm on the O2-UK network.
As I understand HSPA+ should come up in the statusbar as H. Is this correct? What's the problem? Also should I be getting HSPA+:21?
Running speedtest gives me: D: 2196 kbps, U: 1319 kbps. D varies by +/-600kbps
I'm running 4.2 Kalo v5.0 on Franco r318. Radio is XXLH1. I've also added kevdliu's quick settings mod.
Thanks guys
Although not directly comparable my friend, also in London but about 10 miles away and running on giffgaff (which piggybacks the O2 network), is getting D: 3337kbps, U: 2109 kbps. Afaik giffgaff speeds should be lower than O2 pay monthly but this might be due to the area etc.
My first thought is that my statusbar is just buggy but I can't shake the thought that there's something wrong with my phone's signal/radio. Should I be getting faster speeds (HSPA+:21 or higher)?

+1 on this issue. Had HSDPA on 4.1.x, then suddenly 3G on 4.2.
But I think you're getting the right speeds. At least I know I am.
Same here in Canada on Telus network.
Status bar never shows "h" anymore.
When downloading something network type will switch to HSDPA+:15 but otherwise is always at HSDPA:8
I think that's the way its supposed to work to save battery but i dont know why the signal bar only shows 3g now...
