whats gingerbread/gingerbreak?

a way to root your phone

i want to perma root but

do i need to be temp rooted before i perma root with gfree
I believe the temp root is achieved through using RAGE via the wiki section of XDA. It is painless and easy.
I was scared to root myself but decided to just go for it last night. I cannot believe how simple it was! I met a few obstacles on the way, but managed to overcome and now I'm running the CM7 Gingervillain ROM!
where exactly did you put gfree files did you put them in android/tools or did you make a folder in tools them put them in there
everything you need is on the wiki website. the location doesn't really matter because you can navigate to that folder and push using adb.
i just got my g2 now how do i no what version im on my android version is 2.2 and build number is 1.22.531.8

As long as he put the folder which contains ADB.exe into his computer's path, if not he will have to place the files he wants to push where ever his ADB.exe file is. In the older version of AndriodSDK its located in the AndriodSDK\tools folder but in the new version r08 of AndriodSDK its located in the AndriodSDK\platform-tools folder.
when i type adb devices nothing shows up anyone no what to do

Do you have the right G2 drivers installed? You can go to the Wiki and get them or here they are to save you some time.
Also installing HTC Sync will install the correct drivers, HTC sync Doesnt work with the G2 because its Sense based but it will install the correct drivers for you. You can go HERE and download HTC Sync for the Desire Z, install it to your computer then hook your phone up and it will install the right drivers.
kool i got it now the problem that i am having is im getting permission denied when pushing
make sure you have usb debugging on and then do not have 'usb connected' when it prompts you.

Yes, from what I have seen, if you get that permission denied when pushing files to the SD card then that means that you have the SD card mounted on your computer through USB. All you have to do is plug the phone to your computer with the USB cord then run ADB, don't mount the SD card to your PC.
i got it to work i was writing the wrong path i didnt keep it simple i made folders for gfree instead of putting the contents in tools but thanks for all your help i guess i just want to no is it kool to mix roms and kernels im using Virtuous v0.9.0 Sense with 1.8 g2 fast kernel

Rooting method: When the regular way fails

You will need the following software:
Superuser
Root explorer
Visionary r13
Z4Root
Terminal
and the rooting files provided in the other post...place those in the root directory of your sd card.
Why use this method?
I noticed that some phones cannot be rooted using the traditional rooting method through terminal. My phone an my friend's phone were not easy to root. My brothers rooted with the visionary method.
When that fails, you can use this one...that I discovered while trying to unroot my phone using many different methods.
The method:
- First make sure superuser is running.
- make sure usb debugging is on, and third party apps is checked.
- Open visionary, make sure the mount as R/W after root is checked and do a
temp root
- Open z4root and do a temp root.
- run terminal and type: su
- keep terminal open but switch to home screen
- open root explorer
- press mount as R/W
- navigate to that "root" folder on your sd card with the root files and open root.sh and then click execute
- switch back to terminal and type:
cd /sdcard/root
hit enter and then type:
sh root.sh
and hit enter...the phone will do some stuff and after it's done, reboot it.
Once it is off and about to start, press power button and vol down button at the same time. It should have s = off on it.
reboot again into the OS and open z4root and do a perm root.
After that is done, it will keep saying rebooting but it will not do it automatically so go ahead and reboot it with the power button.
Once the phone has booted again, uninstall z4root and visionary and anything else except root explorer.
That's it! There is no such thing as un-rootable!
what's z4root used for when visionary does temproot for you?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
You may not need it but when I was attempting to root the phone, that's what I used.
I am thinking you can follow the steps, omit the z4root steps and just use visionary.
For some reason my phone did not want to unlock just with visionary.
Dont work for me,,,,i try all the stuff here,,i dont know what im doing wrong,,cause the phone said s.off but when im reboot the phone still on
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Wait it says s-off? Then you're good, all you do after the reboot, is run z4root and perm root it
If you follow the directions that grankln posted and do it right then you wont have any problems rooting it. If someone follows that guide and correctly it will root their phone. Its proven to work so if its not working on someone's phone chances are high they aren't doing it right. This thread in unnecessary especially since there are already a few methods of rooting already posted. You are just going to confuse people more

I've never seen that guide fail when all steps are performed correctly. Even in irc, when people say that that method doesn't work, I walk them through the steps and it magically works when it failed every time before.
No luck

No, you have to downgrade. Check the resource Bible, they're a few threads on how to do it. Then you can root your phone.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.
........Death before dishonor........
For God's sake. Having root without write access to the system partition is next to worthless. If anyone has questions regarding rooting there phone then please read the how to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996. If you can't figure it out do not go ahead with a procedure you don't understand! Not trying to be a **** but what works is posted. Its proven. It does the trick.

To any and everyone who knows how. Which way is the proper way as of Today to root the kf2? To many videos and guides they confusing me and then when I tried a method i saw on youtube it wouldnt recognize my device but then again it was for the 6.3 version I believe. I need this rooted before christmas because I'm bought it to give as a gift but without root I feel like playing frisbee #frustrated
Took me 10seconds to find this thread which works for the KF(2) (also reported for the 10.2.4 firmware)...just follow the steps (before make sure you got the right adb driver installed) and you device should be rooted!

OK so I just tried and it does NOT recognize my device I installed drivers uninstalled drivers and re installed them again AND I dl the drivers that came in the Qemu root method and like always my laptop says that the drivers are already installed and when I click next anyway it tells me I have latest version .....What gives maaaaaaan? #headache
I found that I had to plug out the kindle. Un install the device from device manager. Then with adb already enabled plug it back in. Then it should fail to automatically install the driver from there you can install.

How I re-rooted the KF2 after much aggrivation and little sleep
Actually, I just re-rooted but, was not that simple. Had to do some manual commands using adb to push su and whatnot. Took several fails, too.
Credits to all of XDA-devs
First thing you have to do tho is: Navigate to your Android SDK folder and download the newer drivers for the KF2 then update the drivers in Windows. Launch "Android SDK Manager" then click Tools then "Manage Addon Sites". In the next window, click the tab at the top titled, "User Defined Sites". Then, click "New" and add this line:
http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml
Click to collapse
Next: install the Gen 2 drivers and anything else you are missing from the Android 4.0.3 package.
Then: Using "Device Manager" in Windows, update the drivers for your Kindle and reboot your computer.
Then, do this: Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18
Then use this: tf101_ics_root.zip
Then download this:
Then: unzip or unrar that and take "Superuser.apk" from the system\app folder and "su" from system\bin and paste them in the
"adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools" directory.
Then while in "adt-bundle-windows\sdk\platform-tools", hold "Shift" while right-clicking anywhere in the folder that is empty and choose, "Open Command Window Here"
In the Command Window:
Code:
adb devices
adb shell
rm -r /data/local/tmp
ln -s /data/ /data/local/tmp
exit
adb reboot
adb devices
adb shell
echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb devices
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell
chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
rm /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb install Superuser.apk
You should now be rooted. Open the superuser app and make sure it's up to date and working.
If after any of these commands you get "permissions denied" you have to start over.
I'll attach that "Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip" at the bottom here:

I had the same issue. I updated SDK, uninstalled all drivers, unplugged the fire2. Then in SDK went to tools, manage addon sites, selected user defined sites, added new and copied: http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml, then ok, close, scrolled to the botom of SDK manager, under extras there were 2 kindle fire options, I selected both and installed them, then closed SDK manager.
I wen to the folder were SDK resides, then folder: extras\amazon\kindle_fire_usb_driver and installed the fire USB drivers, then pluged in the kindle, then execute the instructions posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051270) and everything worked like a charm. I hope this works for you! (BTW this solution was developed by someone else can't remember who, but I founded it, used it and shared it).

So you've already rooted BPA1 and you're moving on to rooting CPD1?
I attained root on that partial firmware. Moved onto adb steps to be able to unlock it again as i was already unlocked before i just wanted lineage OS extremely bad. So i followed the guide on xda and then on the 2nd to last string it always says no such file or directory even if the unlock script is on the root of the sd card the internal storage and pc lol still to avail. I followed every step to the T can a pc firewall or something of that affect how smoothly this should be? Ive done it before but i never had this hard of time diff pc as well.

What's the full script that you're trying to execute and which guide are you using? To my knowledge, a firewall has no effect on rooting the Note 4.

Have you tried using kingoroot on the phone? I did it like that and had no issues. Also make sure your developer and security items are ticked.
I think I might know your issue. I had an issue using minimal adb and fastboot. The file that I moved into fastboot "unlock_n4" didn't match the adb command in the instructions. I renamed the file to match the command, and it worked! Up until I figured that out it would say "No Such file".
Hope that helped
Thats a great idea ill have to try that ty.
