[q] root- basics htc wildfire s - HTC Wildfire S

i read the posts regarding rooting ur phone.... but how do i come to know whether my bootloader is S-off or S on...

Make sure fastboot is disabled.....
Take out your battery, hold the VOL DOWN button and then hit Power....
Up top of that screen should tell you if you are S-Off or S-On

Follow the instructions by Ko_Ka after replacing your battery of course . You'll see the version of hboot.
At the beginning I don't succeed after trying several times, but when you'll see that screen : Kudos !

What are the advantages of rooting? My phone doesn't detect ad hoc WiFi created using windows 7 .... Will that problem solve after rooting?

I checked it... It's S On... And that tutorial said it has to be s off... Now what do I do?

You'll need to use a XTC Clip to do it manually.
Have a look at this thread - there may be someone with one near you who could unlock it for you, or you can buy one yourself. Mine was about 30Euros.

[Q] How To Root HTC Wildfire S ?

Hi can anybody tell me how to root HTC Wildfire S (Android Gingerbread 2.3.3) !
Urgently needed plzzz guys help me !
To answer your question: "Yes"
In other words; try searching...
use gingerbreak to root your phone needs to be s-off.
it will say the rooting failed but just restart your phone and it will be rooted.
my phone was from BELL so I had to downgrade it with the RUU euro rom or it wouldn't root.
Is this what you're talking about?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
How do I find out if my device is S-ON or S-Off?
I heard that with gingerbreak you don't acutally get full root but only a few things. Is that true?
Yeah that's it.
Turn your phone fully off then hold down the power on and volume rocker down at the same time. It will say if it is s-off or on.
Well I have restarted my phone many times and it still rooted and all my root apps still work.
S_ON
could you please temme how to S-Off my wildfire s ??

You need to use an XTC Clip (about £100 for the unlimited one, £20 for the payg one) since currently there is no way of doing it via software. If you'd like to be part of a group buy, check out the link in my signature.

Now try again.
AlpharevX guys won't support our device, telling me to go and buy better phone ...
XTC clip is only way to S-OFF, but to expensive, twice than my phone.
So I need to wait probably a long time to official update

It should have worked. I tried it the other day myself for the first time.
Here are the steps:
Uncheck Fast boot.
Turn phone off (maybe wait a few seconds for a complete shut down).
Press volume rocker down (try pressing this one first) and then the power button together for a few seconds.
The loader screen should pop up.

My Wildfire S is already S-OFF from factory but it wont root with GingerBreak. I followed every single step, but it didn't work, not even after restarting the phone. The app got stuck, waited for 20 minutes, restarted the phone and it was all the same, root disabled. Fastboot is off too.
Maybe I need to downgrade the factory ROM? Can you post a link or give me a hint on how to do that? Thanks a lot!
Interested in group buy, located in Antwerp, Belgium
Hi Guys,
I'm the proud owner of a HTC Wildfire, want to S-OFF it, but the XTC Clip is to expensive to just use it once.
Anyone interested in group buy?
That means, one person buys the XTC Clip, and pays for it.
Then the clip will be sent to all other buyers, shipping fee payed by yourself.
After the full round has been done, cost of clip will be split up and the XTC clip sold on ebay, or other site...
When it's sold, the profit will be split up again...
Payment can be made with paypal?
We can keep it save that way?
Who's interested?

{SOLVED}[ROOTED with help of XDA.CN}Help with new Htc explorer

Hi,
Just got me the new htc explorer, having gingerbread 2.3.5 and sense 3.5 in it . But there is no solution for it to root it , searched the while google. Please any one help me out.
I'm writting in here because it is the techncl specs is same as wildfire S,and also in the explorer build.prop the product name mentioned is wildfire S .
I will be really thankful to ny1 who can help me out and also it will be my pleasure to help ny1 in nyway
Sry it's to soon to give you a hint, the device is to new.
And also sry, but wrong forum and wrong section
But cause the stats of your device are not that different to the wfs, you can look around a little and see how to solve the smal internal memory problem in the future
First and foremost check if it has locked bootloader.Do this by powering down your phone, then hold the volume down button and then press the power button(KEEP HOLDING THE VOLUME DOWN BUTTON WHEN PRESSING).A whitish screen will appear. Now check the first line.If it says "s-on" in the end of the first line....then you may have a few problems rooting it..and if there is "s-off" written.....then it would be quite easy to root your phone.
Because s-off allows you to flash updates your self which would be a way for rooting(once it comes that is )

First thing......s-on means you have a locked bootloader, which doesn't allow you to root.
And......there is no wildfire s version of revolutionary....and if it were there, then still you would need the revolutionary for the HTC explorer cuz the first thing it does is identify the device.

if your friend does get it back, revolutionary is now much easier than unrevoked. it will s-off device + flash custom recovery. then he can flash superuser.zip to root existing rom.

But is Root? Or not?
And. ... can you enter at Hboot? (pushing Vol Down+Turn Off at same time)
He withdraws the batteries a time, and come back to putting. When you put it, you enter Hboot and do Clear Store. You will lose the information of the Rom, but perhaps start.
Greetings.

You dont need s-off.
Do you have htc sync? Because you need the drivers.
Did you turn on usb debugging? Turn it on in settings>applications>development>usb debugging (make sure its ticked)

exactly same thing happened to me... i was wondering about an 30 mins what could went wrong... and then i realized that i didn't finished the bootloader unlock process completely... just flashed unlockable hboot... make sure you finished the process... (if i remember it finishes with pushing unlock key sent by e-mail via fastboot)
EDIT: you don't need to revert anything if this is your case... you just need to continue the process where you skipped it...

another question when i connect it to supertool v3 through usb
do i have to choose a mode like htc synce ?
or put it on charge mode or disk drive ?
Did you install SuperUser app by chainsdd from Google Play store? That could be why your phone doesn't know it's rooted.
With the latest HTC rom, I also couldn't get it rooted.
Super user was installed fine but would not give permission to any root apps.
I think HTC has patched all current exploits.
Then what's the point of releasing an unlocked bootloader?

You can still flash custom Roms fine.
Maybe I'm wrong, but with the latest ota update I couldn't get it rooted.
and when you started supertool did you prepared for root prior to rooting?
I just got my WFS yesterday and I'm also having the same issue. I read a lot threads, I probably made the mistake of installing the OTA update. I've tried htc supertools v3 and superoneclick 2.3.3-- next I am going to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21201909&postcount=82
I just want to freeze/remove the bloatware and possibly overclock the cpu

[Q] HTC Desire HD won't boot

Hi all,
I just joined this website. I got a HTC Desire HD, with Cyanogemod from this website cyanogenmod.org
Since yesterday its stuck in boot screen. The cyanogenmod booting animation keeps going forever. I got into the recovery mode once, and somewhere on another forum someone wrote that I had to click Fastboot. But now I cant get into recovery mode anymore, and my phone wont boot too.
What can I do to make my phone work again?
All help is highly appreciated!

Are you S-OFF or have an unlocked bootloader? if you don't know that then I suggest you do some reading first. There is a guide in my signature where you will find all that stuff.
Check the hboot and see what it says...it is not the same installation for S-OFF than being unlocked
