[Q] Boot animation wont work... - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Yeah yeah yeah.... I'm a noob. I need your help who ever you are. Im just trying to replace the original boot animation. I download the new boot and put it in system/media and rename and have even moved the old bootanimationloop.whatever. still wont work. Again, im a noob so please explain what i have to do in lamens terms. If you could show me on a video, even better. much appreciation.

Ok first what kernel are you on?
Also are u renaming the animation to sanim.zip with making sure its all lower case?
Sent from my Galaxy S2

How can I check what kernel im on? I downloaded a new 1 but forgot what it was. sounds stupid I know, but no I did not put the .zip after sanim

Well first u have to be rooted and and have a kernel that suports bootanimation. Second u need to get root explorer and copy the new bootanimation to system/media and that's it.

And you may need to flash a boot cleaner or manually delete the stock boot ani files or you will get the 2 animations conflicting.

I attached a CWM3 flashable boot cleaner.

How to change boot animation and splash screen on epic 4g?

I'm familiar with the procedure on my evo 4g but never did it on my wifeys epic 4g..Is it just flashing the pc36.img of a splash and putting the boot animation you want in the correct folder?? thanks again
Just flash a bootanimation.zip threw cwm.

Make sure you have a kernel that supports custom boot animation. Genocide is easiest and painless. You may also have to remove stock boot animation if you see double images. There is a boot cleaner floating around for that.
BONSAI 4 and loving it!
You can go into your system/media folder and rename the bootani.qmg file to bootani.bak or just delete it entirely. That will get rid of the double boot bleed threw.
Also I have my own personal boot animation removal.. Just follow up once you run it with a flashable of a bootanimation you want.
Remove Stock Boot Animation (Flash in CWM3.0.0.6) Gets rid of the stock boot animation if its still there, I made this for the stock deodexed version of Froyo EB13.
Ok first post here. I'm runing prerooted 2.2.1 build with drockstars kernel, cwm purple, chainfire...ect ect. Anyways. I have not been able to replace anything in the system files. And the helix flash zip files for boot ani don't work. Shutdowns are easy. Got that on lock. What I'm realy interested in is finding a .zip cwm flashable file that will replace the samsung splash screen. Idk what pic is there as ill replace it with what I want (radioactive symbol). I saw a thread about it on here but I can't find it. This is the closest I've been able to come. So any ideas on that. I've got amillion other questions too. I've been scowering this sight for months. Two bricks later I'm gettin the hang of it.

[Q] Boot Up Problem

I flashed The "Helix boot up" through CWM3 .. every time I start my phone up it freezes at the middle of it then shuts off..Why doesn't it go all the way? maybe because i flashed it through CWM instead of Root Explorer?
I just flashed the original one, red one, and green one not 30 minutes ago. All of them worked for me. I have had it stick at the Android man with circle below him before but a reboot always fixed it.

Aah, that one freezes a lot on me too. I have not been using it up until lately. I just pushed the one from RandomKing's new Froyo ROM that is a combo of the original followed by red. It works better so far...EDIT...that shutdown ani I mentioned works much better. Let me try to post a link for you in a bit.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Try extracting this one then push it to your system/media folder. It is the shutdown ani I mentioned. I am not sure if its flashable. I zipped it back up so I could copy a link for you. http://db.tt/AExU2fM

Thank you...your alot of help, Ima try it! but just incase i fail ,is there any way I can go back to the regular Syndicate rom boot down?

Hey thanks ptfdmedic.
Turns out I was smart for once and had backed up my stock ROM before I went about changing everything. I just flashed back to that and used buddy323's stock kernel to get it back to good as new.
I have a copy of some of the kernels that were hosted on the ACS website. It's been down for a day or so, so I don't know whats up with that. If anyone needs a copy, send me a PM.

I'll see what I can do for you
Edit: No idea if this is going to work. Samsung has a proprietary file format for boot animations so I don't know if this will even work. That being said, you'll need to check /data/local for any old boot animations, then check /system/media for any old ones, then delete those first. Then reboot into recovery and try flashing this. Once again, I have no idea if this will work, so flash at your own risk. I would try it but I'm on stock right now.
If it does work, it will only work with stock AT&T Stock Roms. You shouldn't have anything to lose. If it doesn't work, delete the two files in /system/media that it flashes and I'll do my best to get you something here soon. I have an exam tomorrow so I might not be able to get ti to you immediately.

Edit 2: I found the files from the proprietary format already extracted somewhere. I changed the text file for 720x1280 resolution so this should "theoretically" flash on any rom with custom bootanimation support. Try this one first. I have excluded the sound file for this one.

Last but not least, here's a stock AOSP Jelly Bean boot animation from the Galaxy Nexus that I made, tested, and use in case you decide you want something else that's more stock-android. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888848

Alright give me some time and I'll edit it and see what I can do for you
Edit: Okay my friend you should be good to go. I figured out the issue and this should fix it for you. Let me know if you have any more issues. This animation will flash on any 720x1280 phone. Just flash from recovery as you did before. I don't know if I can locate the sound for you, but if you really want I can try to find it. Hope you enjoy!

Weird, this is making me pull my hair out. I've made several boot animations and I can't figure out why this one is going crazy. I'm going to send a few messages to have someone review my work and make sure I'm not making some sort of stupid mistake. I'll try uploading 1 more time and you let me know what happens. I think I may have found the issue but I'm not sure. Oh well here you go:
Samething with the h9 stock kernel that smartguy made with koontz kernel I get the att animation then a blank screen I am running the deodexed rooted h9 stock rom if that makes a deference

Ok this is weird just tried the inverted one it works fine just that its not inverted

I will flash smartguy's kernel again to test this out. My txt file with configuration is exactly the way it should be...if anyone has any ideas please throw them out there.
What I did part 1: Go to /system/media and make sure bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg are both deleted or moved to another location. Still experiencing issue that you are with stock UCALH9 and the unlocked kernel. Still hearing audio from boot animation. The animation is not looping the way that it should. After deleting those files, the animation plays, but does not move on the part1 folder to loop the image like it should. I've tried one of my other boot animations and it works just fine. It might take me awhile but I'll figure this out. I'm really busy with school right now and I will try to finish it when I can.
With the inverted one on koontz kernel I get a blank screen

You're totally welcome dude. I'm glad I was able to figure it out for you. I plan on trying to find the audio file for bootup too and maybe something special for the inverted version. Enjoy and keep an eye on my thread for this.
