Probably not the newest dillema but here goes nothing, since I've read all the posts regarding battery life, almost all comments from custom roms threads about that and so on.
Right now im using MCR r8 w/ addition + a2sd. My apps list running on desire can be found here:
http://www.appbrain.com/user/baadnewz/apps-on-the-phone
Now my problem is that ive tried Pinky Desire, Leedroid, Nextsense, Delite and for the life of me, I barely make it through the day with the battery, like unpluging it @ 8 AM and pluging it @ 11 pm. Same goes for all roms metioned above. Tried with .20 radio and now with the newest version .30.
I must say I do NOT listen music on phone and I don't even use gps. I send 2-3 texts, and max 20 mins of call. I have 1 exchange mail running and 1 gmail account, i have friendstream syncing every 3 hours. I use Wifi and 3g. Im using it on vodafone romania, and since im in the city the gsm signal is good.
I tried using juicedefender, and setcpu with screenoff profile, they seem to make it worst (this is my apreciation, i didnt use any stat program to acctualy verify in % but for me so it seems).
To be honest im sick of hearing ppl "my desire last 4 days with music gps and 10000 mail accounts"
I even followed the battery recalibrate guide posted here on xda .
Anymore tips ?
Thanks, and yes I know this is the n+1 post about battery issues but all ive read the info is one inconclusive, some says they battery lasts 3-4 days on "heavy" usage" some they dont make it through the day (like me)
My desire has 2 mounths old.
For example. Last night arround 1 am i went to sleep and i was having 89% battery, this morning arround 8 i was having 72% left. No wifi on, just 3g data connection with exchange syncing @ 1 hour and gmail app for mail

No, since im a really big fan of sense
I have exactly the same problem as the OP.
I have tried all sense ROMS, it seems the best ROM for me was Opendesire which doesn't use 'sense'.
So far Pays has been rather good, but I don't get more than a day from my phone... I too have tried the calibration setting that was on XDA but to be honest, I'm kinda stuck too as I dont know which ROM to use...
Hi there, had the same problem as you and it didn't matter what rom I tried but still my battery kept draining, til I found out that I had a program that kept monitoring my desire's cpu constantly. Check for program's permissions where it won't let your phone go to sleep. Also check any program that constantly monitors your phone and refreshes every second.

The only app running that monitors anything is advanced task killer
Carlo, do up mean that we can save some battery if we stop that program?
I'm also can't get a full day usage out of my Desire.

The program that were giving me problems were OS info, and magic 8 ball, and quick system info pro, hope that helps

I must say I totally agree with you. Changing ROM does not changes battery usage. It just won't last a day. I charged mine twice every single day. With mixed moderate-heavy usage of mostly internet basis.

Again, I totally agree with you. I couldn't believe with the slightest chance ppl could get 2 full days with heavy usage (4 hours of music, 4 hours of wifi, multiple account sync, facebook, few hours of browsing etc). I think they are just trying to bloat up things. (Eventhough they knew it's impossible) (or maybe they completely turned off their handset everytime they dont use the phone)
I also personally don't think a world class and professional company such as HTC will make highly variable units+battery performance for their products. Such as 3-4 days able HTC with half-day able HTC's.
Some ppl always argue that battery performace improve over time after several weeks of charges and discharges. Actually, they don't! Even if they do, the changes between 'just new' and after several weeks were not more than 10% differences. I got a blackberry 9700 and spare Nokia, and the battery last as long as ever started from second or third charges !
Based on my experience you really don't need task killer constantly running in the background, android OS does a good job of killing programs in itself, and task killer sometimes kills programs that need to be running in the background and the OS then restarts the said program which takes up more battery

Right now as I'm typing this I'm at 38% battery running for 1 day 20 hours and counting, by the way I'm using DeLite 1.1 as I really like sense, but as I said, it doesn't matter which rom you use, its the programs that drain your battery

I used to be a sense freak aswell. I soon learned to love AOSP builds, smoother, faster and much better battery life. Do a nandroid backup and then try OpenDesire, CM6 or Defrost (whichever you prefer) just to test the battery life for a day or two.

It seems you have tried most of the tips from the various battery threads. However did you check your running services?(menu/settings/aplications/running services) I seem to remember for instance the skype services uses more than average battery.
Also, initially my battery life on leedroid wasn't great, untill i complete drained the battery, wiped battery stats and ever since then easily 36 to 40 hours connected to 3G, way more connected to 2G.
Also, check the mV value when your battery is charged, 100% isn't always the same. You can check this with spareparts, included in leedroid. Another thing i just remembered, people seem to recommend the overcharged application to check the mV value. On my phone that application actually seemed to drain the battery much quicker.
last tip for now, if you want to connect to 3G network set your phone to connect ONLY to 3g, NOT automatic 2g/3g.

some personal experience, I have stop using the little green thing, Advanced Task Killer Pro for 3 days. i realized my battery last more than slightly longer.
When i was using ATK, especially after waken from 8 hours sleep 20%-30% gone during idle. now without the ATK, these 3 days after i have waken only 5% gone during idle.
I know you guys might be tired of these threads but I thought I might as well post this.
My desire is fairly new(Less than a week) and so far its been good apart from(What I though) battery life. i've been trying to improve it and I think I might have "some" progress.
Currently I'm running DeFrost 4.9 with HAVS @ 1137(4.9a) kernel with the very latest radio, I also use only 2G networks(No 3G here). I got two Gmail accounts but only one has sync(The other one is merely for Google checkout CC purchases), I got one Facebook account set to sync every hour as well as LP Facebook widget also set to sync every hour. I also got FancyWidget syncing weather every 3 hours. Apart from these I got Nimbuzz running 24/7 in background. The battery is calibrated and yesterday I did a complete discharge/recharge.
Now I plugged it off the charger 2 hours ago, it was at 100 according to spare parts. The brightness is at 2%. I did some lite browsing, browsed a bit with Tapatalk Pro and 40 minutes ago went to a market nearby. During my trip to market I had Google Navigation turned on navigating me(During both, the trip to the market and return). Now while making this post the battery is at 81%. Does it sound right?

How much time the display was on? How much time was the GPS on?
Be careful, don't be happy before time. I did the recalibration too, and found that my phone would turn itself off at ~20% remaining battery.

First, in the night put the phone in airplane mode (I dont think u need to check ur facebook )
Second, check if u have useless programs that are using cpu in background, if is this the case UNINSTALL that program and CONTACT the developer. We dont need to kill those kinds of app, we just have to UNINSTALL if an app doesn't work properly, untill the developer will fix it. If all people will do like me, the market will full of great apps
I don't think I have any useless stuff running in the background. All I got are 2 widgets(Facebook and Twitter) syncing every 1 hour and 3 hours respectively, one Fancy Widget fetching weather and Gmail push for one account. Is their a way I can check all the services running in the BG?
EDIT : Forgot to mention Nimbuzz running 24/7.

I won't rehash all of what has been heavily discussed by now in much greater depth, like in the FroYo Battery Usage thread. But auto sync with such social applications and you set yourself up for low battery runtime to begin with. Especially with a constant polling IM and/or battery widget running too. Don't expect much.
Anyway, I don't use them but weather, stocks, 5 mail accounts and news is set to auto-sync every 15 minutes and WiFi is always running if available. Last discharge as soon as I connected charger ended at:

I slept twice for 7-8 hours each on that charge and it includes all of my daily usage including listening to 127 minutes of MP3 via headphones with the screen off.

Hmm Wi-Fi + Nimbuzz really screws up the battery . Last night I turned off the Wi-Fi and slept for 8 hours. I had 46% battery before and in the morning I had 40%. I also have disabled Auto-sync for Twitter/Facebook widget and Facebook app. Now the only running services I got are Gmail push, FancyWidget weather and Nimbuzz.

How did you manage to get such good battery life? Your phone lasted for over a 32 hours period which included 6 hours of display. And that too with stocks and News syncing every 15 minutes. Does Nimbuzz really screw you that much?

Well now datz some good battery. Which ROM are you using? Which Radio are you using?
I don't have any account/social networking syncing. Don't use wifi more than 20 mins a day. Brightness 20%. NO GPS. No Bluetooth. No stupid application sucking battery's power. If my screen is off I lose about 3-4% for a period of 5 hours, so no app sucking the battery in the sleep mode.
If i use EDGE when the battery is Full for about an hour I get battery drain of 20%
Would love to know more details on which ROM, Radio and your settings.
OK. There's not much I can say except what other guys who know better than me said here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743172
It's all usage/config/settings dependent. There's no secret sauce. Some setups and usages last shorter than others, yet further, some drastically shorter.
Firstly, I don't change something working well nor move from a setup until I've worked with it the best I could. The ROM I use daily is HTC 2.2 with root. The radio is some old one that worked perfect for me: 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20. I can give you some details so you can characterize the battery performance on mine better.
- H.264 sub 2.5Mbps 800*480 video playback at 18% brightness lasts 5.5-6.5h with about 15% remaining. This has been repeated more than 50 times since March.
- My average runtime used to be 13-18h since March but I knew something was wrong and drawing more juice than necessary. I kept looking (mainly at the logs). It took me months to figure out it was a few things including my build.prop WiFi/cell settings, A2SD+, my GMail install, battery widgets, eBuddy, Titanium Backup, Chrome2Phone, Pure Calendar/Grid widgets and my 3G baseband reception. Some app versions were buggy and constantly polling and returning random errors in the background. I had to eliminate them one by one.
I rectified such problems entirely and removed all the unnecessary apps installed which I rarely used. I had to revert back to FroYos A2SD with the install location mod. That took me to todays battery runtime which I'm very happy with. Chrome2Phone for instance could stay installed and be disconnected when not in use to avoid the large background drain it caused.
- I run personalized colour calibration with lowered overall luminance but more red and green with less blue sub-pixel luminance. Very near D6500 whites. I also keep most apps and my homescreens dark when and where possible. I disable button LEDs through a widget when not required (much).
- 24-39h is the norm for me in typical usage. Among much else that always includes a few short calls, some YouTube, some StreetView, some TapeMachine (audio record), some Scan2PDF, some Aldiko, some Chrome2Phone and Fox2Phone, some Tapatalk browsing, some XDA app browsing, some Quick App Clean Cache, some SpringPad, some Adobe PDF, max 15mins of MP3 playback, heavy net and NewsRoom browsing, 150-250 emails and messages and constant sync with what I listed priorly. Always 2G though, and whenever I reach areas I know have bad or no reception (causing high drain) that I'll be staying at for more than 10mins, I disable cell (frequently). I've nurtured the habit of putting the phone in standby after every use too.
- 6-9.5h display on aggregate is the norm for me. I use lowest brightness possible or 18% typically. 50% in very bright, direct summer sunlight. Just now the battery ran out after 26 hours with 9.2h display on, 13.5h cell on and 22h WiFi on.
- I have apps I consider junk removed: Facebook, Footprints, etc. The lot. So no sync or auto running for them or their widgets in the background. I also removed the base GMail because logs showed me it carried on running sync all the time even when not set to. I forced the latest GMail APK in and it has no such problems. I removed all battery widgets installed except one since they drain heavily.
- Heavy usage like GPS, lengthy calls, video recording and playback cuts the runtime down drastically which should be conspicuous. I can drain the battery fully in 5h with everything max and running.

Thats some damn battery life you have there. You are on a Sense ROM? Do you actually use Sense? If so you're either exaggerating or I'm a total fool(I'd prefer the latter).
I've been trying to fine tune the battery, currently I'm using DeFroST 4.9 with SVS 998Mhz @ 1275mv kernel with 17_2 radio. Re-calibrated the battery yesterday and compiled a custom wi-fi module containing fixes for sleep disconnection today morning.
I left it at night around 3 AM with 99% battery, turned off the Wi-Fi/EDGE but kept mobile on. In the morning(Around 9:30AM) I was at around 91%. Gave it a quick charge to 100 till around 11:15 AM. Disconnected it and from 11:20 to about 11:40/45 AM I had quite a heavy chat session over Nimbuzz with my friend. My battery went from 100 to 94% in that time. After that I pretty much left it, picked it up to check a mail once or twice and sent a few messages over Nimbuzz. It is 1:40AM now and I'm down to 89%. All of this was over Wi-Fi, GPS off, Bluetooth off, no tethering no nothing. I got no Facebook/Twitter auto-sync. Only FancyWidget(every 3 hours) and Gmail Push. Brightness is at 2%(Although even then it is a bit bright, maybe it is just me).
I am using Extended control widget to see the power percentage.

Whoa ! Amazing post there. This should keep me occupied for quite some time to figure out what the heck is going on with my battery. The battery life what you are getting is really good and that is what everybody should get provided they figure out what the heck is sucking their battery that bad. Lotsa things and apps you have said drains the battery is on my phone and I haven't even started looking at logs in detail. Itz been only couple of weeks since I have this phone so I'll defn start looking into this issue.
Few questions
1. What issues did you have with your build.prop?
2. What battery widget are your currently using ?
3. You have mentioned A2SD+ also is a battery drain, was it a particular ROM's implementation of A2SD+ or older version of A2SD+ or A2SD+ in general causes battery drain ? Would be great if you could link us to the location mod
OK, It is 7:05 PM now and I am down to 70%. Nimbuzz was on all the time along with Wi-Fi(Although I don't know what happened but it switched to EDGE as if it lost Wi-Fi connectivity, Wi-Fi wasn't disabled, just disconnected). And I pretty much haven't touched it since 1:40 PM. Not as good as I hoped, but still kind of decent.
And my Wi-Fi strength isn't that great either, it is either 1 or 2 bar out of 4.
Well, I haven't done any such kernel modifications intentionally. Never had any need to either. 14.5h since last charge now, cell on 5h, WiFi on 12.5h, display on 2h and 76% remaining (actually, those stats were collected and written an hour back). The Desire display has been verified to consume at least 70% of the total device power when the screen is on. So you can't get more hours with display on if it didn't run as such.
It's HTCs ROM so of course it is using Sense. I can't do without most HTC added goods in Sense. Let alone the Mail, Bookmarks, Calendar, Stocks, Copy/Paste, Lookup, Clock, Gallery and Camera apps and widgets. The widgets I depend on work well only on the HTC ROMs I've tried. The missed Sense goodness combined with the bugs and problems I had on AOSP ROMs were extremely problematic so I moved back. Even my video recording and native playback is much better on this ROM.
To be frank, you've hardly had the phone so you'll learn much more yet. And it comes through search->reading->experimenting first. 1-2 weeks is too little for even figuring out most of the basics, unless you're moving from a similar phone and OS. For one, you'll need to actually read the linked thread to see what many observed and experienced. It took me and many others 6 months to learn things and get to this stage. Every other day I was testing and monitoring. But be aware that you can't, for instance, have the exact same setup and usage as me to have the same resultant battery life.
Had you read the linked thread you'd also be aware by now that bugs were filed for inaccurate % readings by Androids Battery Usage section. However, its time tracking was reliable in my testing.

I use EC and SwitchPro widgets too but their battery widgets (like you mentioned) are known as ones with high consistent drain. The EC dev also corroborated this in its thread under the Themes section.
The 'idle' drops you get don't make sense to me unless there's fundamental hardware/software activity you haven't properly monitored and logged. Even kernel and I/O usage in the background. You'd be surprised at the difference one buggy underlying feature can make.

If you're actually asking those questions, here goes. Note, I am at 66% and the time is 8:56PM. And after this I'm gonna nandroid this ROM and try SuperVillainHD just for the kicks. Also, can it be that since the phone is relatively new, the battery is not up to its full potential?
Q1, 2) Battery usage is :
Display: 35% (35m 37s)
Wi-Fi: 20% (9h 44m 22s)
Cell standby : 15% (9h 44m 22s)
Phone idle: 14% (9h 9m 42s)
Android system: 6% (CPU Total: 9m 35s, CPU Foreground: 27s, Data sent: 7.82KB, Date received: 11.38KB)
Nimbuzz: 4% (CPU Total: 6m 46s, CPU Foreground: 2m 54s, Data sent: 298KB, Data received: 851KB)
Android OS: 3% (4m 1s)
Voice calls: 2% (45s)
Q3) I'm using DeFroST ROM with A2SD+
Q4) Yes, I'm using a static wallpaper
Q5) Animations is set to : All animations
Q6) GPS is disabled, if that is what you mean.
Q7) How can I check this and what would it show?
Q8) Didn't touch this, so I'm presuming Auto.
Q9) I'm not sure, so here goes. I got a Twitter widget, Facebook widget, both are set for manual syncing. Got FancyWidget syncing every 3 hours and several harmless icons. I got 3 bars of Extended Control widget and a google search widget
Q10) I don't have those, are they available in market? Do they consume battery?

I'll have to open the file for that to check exactly the changes I made. I didn't really follow anyone, just went off my own understanding and intuition. If I try to access the dir or open the file whilst the phone is not in Recovery, it'll force a reboot so I'll give more details later on this when I'm near a PC.

FroYos A2SD was nice but I needed much more space and was trying A2SD+ with various ROMs as well as manual use on HTC ROMs. Endless problems such as very remarked, consistent sluggishness in basic functioning, total boot and app load slowness, including high, persistent background CPU and IO loads and very poor SD card transfers over USB and WiFi made me sack it. I lost a class 4 16GB Kingston SD card with errors inside 2 months. I transfer 2-4GB in/out daily and many transfers started failing. Widgets bugged out frequently when you needed them most and had to be all re-setup. Video record and playback became dis-able. The phone became useless except as a toy. That's not what I bought it for but as a helpful companion. I eliminated everything in question. It was simply the SD card [over]use compared to internal memory. Even though I used this, I still have select applications not on the SD card upon learning that they worked far more consistently and properly with lower power and CPU usage when using internal memory. Trial, observant monitoring, and error.

Can anyone give me tips on howvto save battery ...I have set cpu profiles but it seems to still drain...and auto sync is off too
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
There are so many ways but it all depends on how your phone is used.
Got to Settings>About Phone>Battery Use and see what all your battery life is being spent on. From there, figure out a way to cut back on that (if it's your screen, decrease the brightness or turn the screen off when not in use).
Here are a few tips from my own limited testing on a few ROMs like Villision and Enom's as well as CM6.1. First off, I use a helper application like XDA Superpower which basically turns off stuff when the phone is in power save mode like wifi, data, etc. It allows some flexibility of when you allow a data connection to be made. You can also set scheduling for night-time use if you want. The main for me was understanding how I use the phone. My phone use peaks around morning, lunch, early evening. Then I want the wifi or data to support me. I want to download new packages, play around, etc. Other times, the phone is just with me when I travel somewhere. I don't care for it to continuously poll for email. Also check out if you have apps like facebook and seesmic for twitter how often you allow background updates. I turn these way down and allow facebook to update every 4 hours and seesmic every 6 hours.
At the end of my day, I commonly have about 70% battery left after my three major use periods in day. This may include a few phone calls, some text, some intensive newsreading, downloading this or that. I don't listen to streaming music, watch any videos, etc.
I would say you should look at how you use the phone and when you don't. I use juicedefender on enom's and villision ROMs and XDA Superpower on CM.
I don't think there is a magic recipe but once you understand what you use the phone for, you can tailor how data and wifi works, how you get updates, how many widgets you run, etc.
Just some ideas... I'm still searching for a battery that goes forever
Thanks man this was really helpful and the xda app looks interesting ill give it a try

I use "2g networks only" unless I need wifi or 3g. Honestly, that has doubled my battery life to 24+ hrs easy on med-hvy use daily. The "Netswidget" lets me quickly toggle the network status. BTW...stock, pershoot kernel, oc'd @1017 and @245 when screen is off. Try it out...

i'm having battery problems too. i'm not a heavy user, but with the original sense rom on my desire z i had two days. the most power (arround 80%) was used by the display. now, on cm rom, i have 38% of mobile standby, 37 of inaktive mobile and 10% are used by android OS. the display is on 4%. all settings are the same on cm rom and sense rom...
i did several battery drains and i deleted the battery stats, ima drain the battery two more times and repeat. right now my phone is at 74% its currently 2:00pm and my phone was at 100% at 3:24am when i took off the charger.
This seems strange.Yesterday after upgrading to gingerbread ( with the RUU because the OTA didn't work for me) I got a huge battery drain.Over the night I got a loose of 40% and now only 3 hours after unplugged and lost 20%.
I only took a few pictures and a phone call.
Only few apps installed since i got this rom since only yesterday.
Anybody experienced this and is there a fix?
Hello,
I can confirm this.
I have also a high battery drain with ALL Android 2.3.* ROMs.
I use the recommend Radio for each ROM and I've checked the RIL to be sure the Radio is correct. But doesn't matter, current in StandBy is between 30 and 50mA.
Only if I turn off WLAN and Mobile Intenet, then I have normal values between 3 and 5mA.
With FroYo I can leave WLAN and Mobile Internet enabled and I had 3-5mA in StandBy
It could not be an application, because I've tried this with a fresh install without Google account to avoid the installation of external apps.

you'd have to edit the build.prop and change the rescan time from 15 seconds to 30, 60, 90 or 120 (or whatever you perfer the rescan intercal to be at)

Try resetting the battery stats by doing the whole charge, lead out, charge, turn off, charge etc. thing.
Also, whilst not a stock RUU I did find it took a few days for the battery drain to calm down a bit. First instal lowest was around 50mA but adfter a fe days it went down to 4-5mA.

Thank you for your help
What does that value do?
Is that the rescan value of WLAN?
The current stays high even if WLAN is off and mobile internet is on.
Only if both are disabled I get a low StandBy current.

After a few days? How many days do you mean? 2, 3, 4, 5 days?
@both
But why this problem does not exist on froyo?

Unknown. It's not 100% due to GingerBread as I've only seen a handful of people complain of this issue (relatively speaking). I see more people saying how much better their battery life is after the update than saying it's poorer.
Doesn't help I know but makes me believe that this is maybe a Network / Radio issue in that the new Radio with GB does not play well with the Network. We had this a few times on the HTC Hero.
Ok...i have airplane mode on for about 2 days.in those 2 days i almost didn't use the phone and got only a 7% lose.As soon as i used the camera(recorded around 15 min) it got down to 50% .
I will test it tonight widought airplane mode on and see the resoults. Also wifi seems to a lot of battery in comparance to froyo.

I haven't noticed these problems with CM7. I got 2.5-3 hours per 1% of drain in standby using juice defender.
If you are finding that turning off data etc is fixing the problem use juice defender. Even the free version will help a lot as it will stop your phone using data willynilly and instead turn it to a periodic sync. With the paid version you can have it stop all together during certain periods or increase doing certain periods. Aka stoping at night and extra during busy hours at work.
Should be a good fix, though it is only covering up the underlying problem still.
Can't really recommend the app enough. With it my phone only uses data when I tell it to (like opening facebook app) or periodicaly to sync and check emails etc. I do use the paid version though for the extra features.
totally agree. i have been using juice defender for about a week. its been a big help. just bought the ultimate a few min ago. going to start customizing.
sorry that i dont have any data yet to back up my statement. maybe in a future post.

im using Leedroid 3.0.3 and i dont get any such battery drain..
tbh im getting a better battery life from GB than from froyo..
on standby currentwidget shows me between 4-7ma with wifi on... with a peak once in a while..and i lose abt 1 to 1.5% per hour
with wifi off i get about 3-5ma..
i dont use mobile data much so cant really comment on that..
try calibrating your battery and try changing the scan interval in the build.prop... i normally keep it at 90...
i never used any battery saving apps, so cant comment on their performance either...
go to wifi advanced settings and untick Best Wifi Performance... that also helps a lot!
hope you get your problem sorted
Thank you all for the help
The issue was not with gingerbread...I just left my phone one night with wifi turned on and lost 40%.But still when I was on Froyo wifi wouldn't loose so much battery. Now I loose almost 2-3% every 15 min if surfing the web with wifi.
And about changing the scan interval in the build.prop...How can I do that?Do I need root?
I'm also having battery problems, but mine are a little bit different, if I'm on wifi it uses between 3 to 5% with a peak now and then. if wifi is off and I'm on 3g, it's between 5 and 500 ma and you see only peaks if you check currentwidget. anyone a clue? working on ARHD 5.1.6 now, but problem was there since version 3
I have battery problems also, my battery dries after 1 day of use. For example this morning, I unplugged my phone full from the charger at 10 am. I went into town, listened to about 20 minutes of FM radio. When i stopped the radio, I still had 98% left of the battery. OK so far. After, I talked for about 5 minutes, sent 4 messages and played for about 15 minutes. I arrived home at 2 pm with 75% of battery left. That is 25% in 4 hours.
I was on 3G, but with Mobile network off. BT, WIFI, GPS off. A few days ago, I tried running the Battery Calibration app, but seen no improvements so far. My phone is routed, 2.3.3 and has Android Revolution HD 5.0 RC1 ROM .
I expected the battery not to last for long, but this is ridiculous.
Help me, please!
I don't know if that will help, but I sometimes switch to 2G networks as HSDPA is using quite a lot the battery.
I have a DHD running 2.3.3, and it's definitely the mobile standby bit which is first in the battery use screen (33%). It was true before 2.3xx but now it's a bit more - annoying in other words.
I have to admit, having to switch to 2G networks is a bit of a pain in the *ss, so I'll check if juice defender give me some good results tomorrow and will post a feedback there.
Maybe try AR 5.1.6. + he recommended radio. It works wonders. the battery life is improved a lot...
malik
Juice Defender works very well - with basic settings I still have 35-40% of battery by 7pm.
furstrated with the battery life...
hey guys,
so this is my first post and all i've done up until now was to read... i'm afraid not real solution has come up.
i have:
Leedroid 3.1.2 with the recommended radio and i ran the script for Full Wipe 1.5 and cleared the battery stats, i did a fresh install and then didnt restore from backup - just installed everything from scratch. i hoped it would be ok, but when i woke up to check the current widget log, i saw that in the middle of the night he climbed to 150mA and stayed there draining about a 1% of battery in 3-4 minutes (!!!)
what can i do? 'where is my droid power' shows only HTC Sense at about 3.8%
please please help... thanks!
I have a rooted G2/Desire Z. What are some ways that I could save battery? It seems it takes only a few hours for it to reach 50%. Granted the phone is now >2 years old and the battery is probably aging. I've done all the basics such as screen brightness set to auto, dim after 30 seconds, etc. etc. etc. What more could I do?
Alternatively, are there any apps that can control the phone/cpu to work a certain way to save battery life?
Thanks

Easiest way:
Uninstall fabebook app, flash a sense rom where you can access most fb functions without the app.
For real, my battery life went from about 10% an hour to 4% an hour on average.

Honestly, way number 1 is to get a new battery. Old batteries just start to drain much faster as they get older. Pick up an Evo Design 4G stock battery for a nice boost.
2. Turn brightness off auto and put it as low as you can handle. Keep a brightness slider on your notification bar for those situations you need to turn it up quickly.
3.Turn everything that "syncs" off of push and set it for 1hour+ intervals if possible.
I have had great standby time using the OC daemon that is packaged with the mimicry ROM as well.
There is this trick that helps. On a monthly bases drain the battery and re-charge with the phone on ie also a good Rom an a good radio version like .19 will keep your battery good don't use lots of ram manager apps and bettery saver apps the run backgroung processes that drain your battery fast

^This (regards to #1), and working batteries are rather cheap, the fat one I got (3500mAh) was 9$, but you can easily get a stock replacement of the 1300-1500 range to fit with the default battery cover.
Far as tips, rooted or not:
1) Screen to automatic, or avoid 'full brightness'. Your screen consumes the most of your battery, automatic or lower brightness can improve the life significantly. This is the big one as your screen will typically be 80-90% of your battery life.
2) If you are near wifi often, System Setting -> Wifi -> Advanced (via menu) -> Sleep profile to always on. This will set it so that the wifi connectivity is always on even with the screen off. A connected good wifi connection uses far less battery than your 2G/3G data constantly searching for a good or better data connectivity. Simply turn off wifi completely when not in an area with wifi (or if you're driving around).
3) Avoid unnecessary applications. Don't use twitter? Freeze/Disable the application under manage app or under Titanium Backup (generally it's not good to 'uninstall' an application completely if it came with the rom).
4) SetCPU with profiles is one way to do it, unless your rom comes with a CPU Daemon already (ie: mimicry with virtuous OC Daemon), When setting a "screen off" profile, try not to go below 768mhz for the maximum, as going with 384mhz for example may be too slow for the phone to effectively wake up when a call or notification comes in.
5) You can use an app such as Tasker (not to be confused with task killer). Where you can assign automatic tasks, such as automatically setting Radio to 2G when connected to wifi (some roms like AOKP do this automatically under power control), or other tasks depending on the circumstances.
6) The first time you get a new battery, make sure you leave it on the charger for a good 5-6 hours so that it accurately 'tops off', the phone won't know accurately what's 100% and what's 0% until it has been fully charged (least 6 hours minimum), and fully drained, after which it'll more accurately report your battery % as it's used and will have more accurate usage stats.
7) If you're a T-Mobile subscriber, consider the 26.13.04.19 radio as well as the T-Mobile Wifi calling app, wifi uses less power in the long run than your radio via cell towers. If you'll be in a location that has wifi often you will benefit from this over not using Wifi Calling. (The main downside is you cannot currently send/receive MMS over wifi calling, but Calls and SMS[txt] work fine). Even if you don't use the wifi calling app, the 26.13.04.19 radio provides better battery life over the older one.

Course it helps to clear battery stats before performing this task so that the OS/Battery-Stats records the new maximum and minimum values of the battery. Though you don't need to do it monthly, I would say closer to 6 months would be appropiate if you don't want to make a monthly habit of it.
You mainly only do this on account of battery aging (over time the battery will not hold as much charge as it once did), You normally know if you need to do this task again if it appears to be on 98% or 99% forever never reaching 100%, meaning that the battery is no longer able to hold the juice to provide the former-maximum mV value, re-doing the battery stats simply makes the new maximum marked as 100%.
PS: Strip419, on an off-topic note, I tend not to 'thank' people who ask/beg for it. If your post is worthy of thanks, they'll be clicked on their own accord.
OK MAN I'LL KEEP THAT IN MIND

Best rom I've ever used for battery life is EliteMod. That rom did something crazy, cause my phone lasted for days before it need charging, and I use facebook and all that good stuff. It's not as fast as other roms, but battery life is certainly the best on that rom.
Also yea, before with stock battery my phone would last a day at best, and now I have a 1800 battery that makes it last for 2 days easy. So if your phone is at least 2 years old, get a new battery. They're dirt cheap on Ebay or Amazon. The phone comes with a 1300 stock.
simply change for normal use 2G instead of 3G.

My Advanced settings don't look quite like yours, alas. (I'm using EliteMod cm7.) The section is entitled "Wi-Fi sleep policy, Specify when to switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data" and the only options are " When screen turns off," "Never when plugged in," and just plain "Never." I assume that the "Never" option, that is, never switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, is what you mean...that is in any event the default (set by this particular ROM?)
But my problem goes beyond not quite understanding the semantics of "Never" (off?) vs. "Always on." What I continue to find odd is that my highest battery usages, at least according to Battery Monitor Widget, are never the screen at all; rather they are cell standby, Wi-Fi, phone idle and Android System...Display is down at 6% just now, for example (and I've been up for hours, have read the news on the phone, emailed, texted, etc. This is on EliteMod only, btw, I used Flinny's latest build (.94?) for a few days recently, and while battery usage was worse, at least the display was at the top of the list, where it (presumably?) belonged.
I have all the latest and greatest tweaks from the the forums (for cm7 roms, that is) the .19 radio and sd-ext and all ext4 partitions. Am running the generic 3500mah "fat boy" battery...drained and refilled several times, all according to instructions...mine only shows maybe, umm, 2300 or so mah, but that's not the issue for just now...it's why my usage looks so odd, and how to fix it, if need be.
thanks to all,
p-d
oh yeah. I have long used (pre-rooting) Lookout and Pouzerate's Green Power free apps...have now turned them off (well, uninstalled them, in fact) just to see if, indeed, battery helper apps make things worse, running in the background... any thoughts on that topic would be welcome as well.
Moving to Q&A
