WiFi- "Error" no explanation... ideas? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
Spent a good few hours googling this with no joy.
Basically S-Off rooted Wildfire S
Android 2.3.3
Kernel 2.6.35.10-g60b2609 [email protected] #1 Sun Apr 17 01:15:33 CST 2011
Build number GRI40
Has 128MB RAM and 23.66MB Internal Storage free.
Basically Wifi stopped working randomly and is now reporting "Error".
Tried the *#*# thing to get in to a menu (no menu!)
Can't see anything which would cause it (manually editted the WiFi list as it kept getting stuck "Searching" that seemed to fix that - too many entries?).
But this has me stumped, anyone else find a fix? Worried it's hard ware- don't want to lose my S-Off!

OK,
It appears to be the same issue as I had when the wonderful "Unable to scan for networks" or some such variation appeared.
The file:
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf appears to get corrupted somehow...
It contains all of the details on Wi-fi networks and passwords etc...
Using ES File Explorer with Superuser I was able to simply rename it and problem solved...
But would suggest a major issue somewhere... last modified 10/10/2011 but no idea how or why as it wasn't a hotspot add.
Hmm

I had the same problem with my HTC wildfire S with S-OFF running any other rom except Virgin Mobile, they seem to have locked the wifi card unless it has a config file. renaming /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf.old seems to work, but i just created a blank file /data/misc/wifi/wifi_config_001.conf and it also seems to work. (WHY HTC, WHY YOU NO LIKE ROOT?)

I think you guys may be over thinking this. Try flashing some different kernels as that's the only thing that's ever given me a Wi-Fi error.

Same here(with stock kernel).try other kernels.
Press thank's if i helped you!

I'm sorry for the noob question but here goes.
I'm having the same issues about wifi not working. It only stops working when I use a custom rom(I've tried several different ones). I think you might be right about flashing the kernel but Idk how to do so or which kernel would be best for the rom I want to use. Currently I'm on the stock rom and stock kernel I haven't changed anything. I am rooted and have s-off. Can you help me with the kernel issue or give me some general advice?

I upgraded my buzz to Cyanogen Mod 7.2 (same thing)
Then i downdraded it to 2.2.405.1 and i lost the recovery mode, what now ???

Hi guys! I'm jumping in this conversation because I've the same problem!
I've flash my device from the RUU that are downloadable from this site (Marverl RUU ecc.. is the post..)!
And all goes all right, but whan i try to turn on the wifi, appear a string that seys "Error" down the Wifi string.
I'm searching in internet some solution but I don't found anything...
have someone an idea?
I've try to follow your tips in this post, but whan I go to dir data/misc/wifi the folder is empty! So try to put in here the files I've found in my nexus 7 in the same folder...but nothing goes..
So what can i do??
tnx all!

Hmm, that's pretty weird. Every time i did the RUU it would completely stock the phone like if it came right out of the box(loose root, lock the hboot, etc..) So idk why its not fixing the wifi issue. Are you rooted first of all? Running on a custom rom? If yes, what kernel are you using? Sorry i got back to you late. But thats all i can think of for right now hope this helps at least a little

[Q] Radio Downgrade without wipe/RUU-reset? (AMOLED-Desire, HBOOT 0.80.000, S-ON!)

Hey folks,
is it somehow possible to downgrade the radio to an older one without wiping or resetting the whole phone via RUU?
I just tried to flash an older one over the current radio image and it doesn't seem to work
Why do I want to downgrade anyways?
My phone crashs all the time. Especially when it's connected to the original charger from HTC (1000mA) and I try to use an app. Or when I use several apps at the same time, when not charging.
It could be the hardware-failure, everybody is talking about lately...
BUT I found out that everything is fine with the performance and stability of the phone, when I am using it in airplane-mode.
Everything was fine a few month backs, when I was using some older radios and ROMs.
The crashs seem to be somehow connected to mobile data usage (2g/3g). I've heard that some radios might be "better" in some regions as others. I'm from Germany, so maybe this is causing the instabilities.
I thought it is worth a try, before complaining hat HTC
Starting situation:
rooted AMOLED Desire (HBOOT 0.80.000 + S-ON)
AmonRa Recovery v2.0.1
Redux v1.1.1
vorkKernel 2.6.37.2 (CFS, SVS)
Radio 32.54.00.32_5.14.05.17
Thank you guys
You need to use the radio zips from recovery when you are s-on.

Most likely to be hardware failure. Send it to HTC for motherboard change. Search for desire overheating and rebooting on its own in the forums and see if symptoms match. Had mine replaced

have done that, but it doesn't affect any downgrade.
How have you exactly done it? And you sure you didn't get any errors in recovery?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Downloaded old radio from the thread here on xda
copied to SD
booted into AmonRa Recovery
flashed the zip directly from sd
no erros, flashing susscessful (something like that displayed)
selected "reboot phone"
As always the normale procedure...
except that this time the ROM was booted after leaving the recovery, instead of the regularly shown "radio-installation-box-logo"...

The phone is running since two days straight without any crash and exceptional battery life, heavy usage...the only downside...mobile data is deactivated.
Does nobody know how to downgrade the radio?
Thanks.
Actually after trying the senventh Radio (no ****!) I succeeded
The only downgrade was possible with the "32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2" radio.
And since then my phone is running stable again! Amazing

Hi guys this is my first time i post a thread. I posted 2 pictures
one of them describes the rom i'm using and the other is root checker
i originally rooted my htc desire unrevoked and everything was fine besides not being s-off
i had busybox installed and says rooted and titanium also worked fine untill i flashed from rom manager the picture above, all hell broke loose.
i can still download roms from rom manager but when in the notifaction shows me complete, it doesn't do anything
my power button doesn't power off the phone,i always do a battery pull and when i go to bootloader volume up-down doesn't work nor power
my current rom is working <see picture attached> but new market installed always says stopped unexpectedly
please someone help if you can thanks airmario

Sorry, but I don't get it. Which steps did you do exactly?
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
In my humble opinion I would say: Do a complete wipe of everything and then do a clean stock rom install. After that try again. ow btw the update from HTC for your bootloader unlocker is NOT for the HTC Desire! But revolutionary works 100%. Did so on my HTC Desire WITH the new Gingerbread update. Now I am S-Off and rooted and have the Leedroid rom running ( with some tweaks)

Ok please be patient with me
He we go my first step
#1 I rooted my HTC desire with unrevoked for the past 4 months every thing worked fine.
Only thing is s-on
Then not long ago I decided to flash a different rom through rom manager like I've always been doing .
Once I did my problems all started
Busy box says not rooted, titanium same but rom manager I get permissions .
The rest is history ....all I want if possible is to start from scratch if possible ...go back to stock and root.
Thanks

First of all if I am not mistaken Unrevoked doesn't "fully"root your phone. because your S-on doesn't turn into S-off. Therefore you usualy needed to do a nand root. And that could brick your phone if that fails
Sorry if I seem a little cautious with my words because I am a little newbe to all this
But with the Revolutionary tool it works. Trial and error on my own HTC Desire to prove it
You should be able to look for a Froyo RUU or even the newest Gingerbread update for the Desire and flash your phone with it. And then start from scratch with rooting with Revolutionary. If you allready did the update from froyo to Gingerbread there is no turning back to Froyo for now as far as I know. So you have to flash again with Gingerbread
Look on the threads her at XDA and you will find it or even try google. If you done that with succes you start rooting S-off with the revolutionary tool.
Don't bother trying to unlock the bootloader with the unlocker from HTC!! It is not ment for the Desire...!
hope this helped

Was your phone branded? If not, just download this ruu, run it and follow the instructions on screen:

I'd go right ahead and download the Gingerbread update from HTC, wouldn't bother with the Goldcard because you may spend a lot of time trying to fix something which is unfixable. I seem to remember having a problem like yours, which was only solved by downloading an installing the official HTC RUU, I had also tried to get S-Off with Unrevoked but didnt use the right driver(was using HTC's driver, or maybe another, whatever it was it wasn't the right one to use with unrevoked, although unrevoked seemed to have worked!?).
Revolutionary has improved upon Unrevoked though. Its a lot simpler, the process is quicker and there's no user interaction at all. If you back up as much of the stuff and apps with titanium as you can or just your personal stuff, shouldnt be to much of a hassle.

About which unfixable are you talking about? You get cid error when you want to flash stock ruu although your phone was branded.

And at this point he will need a goldcard (maybe) to avoid cid error. That's why I asked if his phone was branded or not. So please do not talk about an error which is not fixable without defining which error you mean more precisely.

To backup apps with tb, one needs root access. The thread opener does not have it and revolutionary does not give you root access till one's flashing the zip mentioned on the documentary site.
And revolutionary is another matter altogether, because the op wants to go back to stock. He may run revolutionary then.

I would do this: switch off the phone, remove the battery for 10 seconds, plug the battery again, charge full with phone still off with htc ac charger (2.5 hours at least), remove the charger, switch on the phone, ensure u have usb debug active, connect the phone to ur pc, run the ruu (if u are no brand use the 2.29.405.5)

[Q] Root DHD

Hey guys,
After many attemps trying to root my lovely DHD, I'm here to ask you one question.
I've read the manual a couple of time but there's nothing to do : There is always something not working with the advanced ace hack kit.
Everything is fine untill it says "failed" for the "sending update" process.
Could anyone tell me where is the problem?
(Enclosed : a copy of what it says).
Thank you!
Try a different sd card. And resolve any USB driver issues. It's best to disable all USB devices while running kit.

I'm giving it a try, thank's!
Edit : Nothing changed! I'm giving a try with another PC tommorow
I just tried with another PC, another SD card and another usb port, nothing worked... :/. Any idea?
which version are you running? As aahk can't root Desire HD running android 2.3.5 sence 3.0 program version 3.13.161.3. Only 3.12.405.1 and lower is supported.

Yes the sd card can be an issue. Usually it will get stuck on info signature checking with a bad sd though. It does sound like you may be trying to root the new dhd 3.0 update which can't be rooted yet.

Hello,
I rooted the DHD of my girlfriend yesterday (using the ACE HAck 171211) and everything runs perfectly.
But now we wanted to upgrade via the official OTA update (Update to 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0) and it won't update. The DHD reboots, starts to update the system and within 1-2 seceonds it stops the update and show a Warning sign.
The DHD still works with the old System (after removing the battery).
Has anyone an idea ??
PS: I still try to get her to use ARHD 6.3.1

Once rooted you can not do factory updates. It relies on the stock recovery to install. You would have to unroot and then install ota but you wouldnt be able to root from the update until the hack kit supports the new version. You should just look for a rooted form of the new ota.

New to rooting HTC Desire

So, I told my friend I'd help him root his HTC Desire. Thing is, when he first got it, which was apparently shortly after it came out, he had it rooted. The guys said, however, that it was a partial root. I don't know what that means. Also, he has the super user app, but no recovery installed. Also, I've looked over the guide for rooting the phone and getting S-OFF. (I have an EVO 3D) It's so different from my phone that I am not sure what bootloader version this phone has.
I know that it is locked, KINGDOM PUT SHIP S-ON, HBOOT 1.22.0000. If there is any help, I'd appreciate it. I'd be alright if it weren't rooted at all, but since it's partially rooted, I'm not sure.

HTC Kingdom is the codename for HTC Evo Design 4G or HTC Hero S
(HTC Bravo is the codename for HTC Desire)
so root methods in this forum won't be of much help.
i'm not sure what your aim is:
- rooted phone? if you have superuser app it's likely that you're already rooted. try running an app that requires superuser permissions e.g. titanium backup
- custom rom? then you will need custom recovery, i couldn't find the xda forum for evo design 4g, so try google for a guide on how to install one for that phone.

HTC Kingdom is the codename for HTC Evo Design 4G or HTC Hero S
(HTC Bravo is the codename for HTC Desire)
so root methods in this forum won't be of much help.

Ahh, my friend wasn't sure which phone he got. I couldn't find a design forum here either. Also, yeah, he said it was a partial root (not sure what that means) and as for the custom recovery, he doesn't have one, which you usually get one when you root the phone (CWM Revolutionary usually). Thanks for the info, I'll check out google when I get home.
I think by partial root here might mean that the phone is not s-off yet

Could he mean temporary root? (root is lost after reboot)
Because there you have a superuser app but no recovery...
You could try using apps that require root and check if root is gone...
There's an easy way to root/s-off on my guide.
But is it for HTC design?

So, I've searched on google HTC Design Rooting and S-OFF, and all it links me to is stuff for the HTC Desire or the HTC Desire S. It's like the Design doesn't exist. What gives.
Ahem, Im the noob here but...
Try "Find Your Device..." at the top of the forum, write just "HTC Evo 4G".
And look for an answer there... try READ FIRST! - Rooting, Solutions to Problems, the Answer to Life

And use THANKS button, if it helps you...

Problem is..."HTC Evo Design 4G" and "HTC Evo 4G" are different phones...
@Panface, don't know why there aren't relevant forums, possibly not a popular device among developers? If Google can't find the answers don't know what else to suggest, all I know is rooting methods for each phone should be treated uniquely, and we can't help you much here unfortunately

Well, I don't have HTC Kingdom, I just read the internet articles like this one:
http://phandroid.com/2011/07/19/htc-kingdom-to-be-rebranded-as-the-hero-4g-for-sprint/
So you are right about it - my apologies...

Yeah, it's an HTC Design, which is vastly different from the HTC EVO 4G. But yeah, it's weird that Google can't find anything about it. Must not be that popular of a phone.

OTA from 2.1 to 2.2 results in a bootlooping device

I'm on holiday now and told a friend I could help him with his phone having some minor strange issues. Because I'm not familiar with this phone I didn't dare to put on a custom ROM. When I was busy investigating the possibilities of an upgrade the device offered a system upgrade. After finishing the process it started and after a while it restarts.
I was able to find a laptop on which I could run a downgrade script to 2.1. This script fails when it checks if the image is properly pushed to /sdcard. I then used "adb shell" to check this. There's no block device mounted to /sdcard. I then looked for the available devices in /dev/block and only saw 1 mmc device, the external SDcard.
Before trying this 2.1 downgrade I tried to download a stock firmware for this "Orange France" device, but all those links are dead ones.
At this moment I don't really know what's the best thing I could do. I already did a full wipe from the boot loader menu, but that didn't help either.
Can someone help me to escape from this embarrassing situation?

Download 2.3 RUU from htc dev site (you have a link to the thread how to do that in my sig) and run it. You can also check Bortak's guide.

I think I already tried that. It said it couldn't upgrade from the version I was running. Is this possible? I will try it whenever I have the next opportunity. Open to more suggestions... Thanks
Goldcard?
