Hello,
I am a long-time lurker, and this is my first post! Therefore I am not able to post this question in the Developers forum.
I've got a Touch Pro 2 which I've installed FRX03 several months ago. I'm using another phone now (Samsung Galaxy S ), but I would like to bring new life into the TP2 and upgrade to the newest build which is the Froyo FRX07.
I've been searching for forums all day, looked at the Xdandroid FAQ as well as this thread and there appears to be no easy way to upgrade. Can they be used for such a major upgrade as this or is there an easier way ?
I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I look forward to the responses.
Regards,
testing251
Would be much easier to just download the full bundle. A lot has changed since FRX03 (that's an understatement!) so why not just start fresh? You'll save yourself a lot of time and headache trying to upgrade something that is so very outdated...
Hello arrrggh,
Thank you sooo much for your quick reply. You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that!
One more question though - do I need to uninstall FRX03 first, or can I install FRX07 on top of it?
Thanks in advance,
bsavarin

On top of it...?
I would remove any old stuffs, but that's just me - that way you avoid questioning whether this piece or that piece was updated or not...
I'm sorry, that sounded silly of me when I thought about it!! I will just reinstall the few apps I had there already.
I've taken your advice and now uninstalled FRX03, and will manually delete the andboot and android folders which are still there. I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again!
bsavarin
Just thought I'll provide an update.
After several attempts to load it and tweaking (oh for a cab file!! ) it's finally worked successfully!! Afterwards I had a small problem with xdandroid being one hour ahead, so I installed clocksync in android and it works perfectly now!
Thanks for you help,
bsavarin

Hi there ,
Just wanted to say great forum you got here, and would like to say already thanks for all the great stuff you got on here for my hermes.
already i am running wm6 (scnapps rom), with hard spl installed and radio 1.50.
Right here goes in at the deep end !!!!!!
has one one got touch flo working on there hermes as i really like the interface and the fact that you can control the main part of the device with the thumb.
If this is a double post or possibly a re run of another posting ..... sorry in advance.
And also thanks in advance
Alex Slane
Hi and sorry to bump up a rubbish newb post lol but would love to find a rom that Preferably has the touch flo installed.
Alex Slane
Hi Alex, and welcome to the forum. You may regret not searching round before you waded in with a new thread - don't be surprised if you get some flaming over it.
The TouchFlo has been discussed and worked on many times in this forum. At the moment, it is possible to get it "working", but you need to active one application (BioFlo) and then open TouchFlo with a hardware button - hence why it's been termed "ButtonFlo" for the Hermes.
Keep an eye on Dutty's threads about his ROMs he's working on at the moment - one of them mentions having ButtonFlo inside.
Short version, don't think you'll ever see it working fully on a Hermes, but you can get close to it with some work. Have a search round the Hermes threads for "TouchFLO" and "ButtonFLO" and get reading!
Enjoy.
Thanks for the post back stu ,
yeah i sure will get reading , i have checked a fair bit to be honest mate , i have been looking back and forth on the site for sometime , i made the post because i was seeming to see some conflicting info on here about the touch flo way of working the phone and just wanted some advice , sorry for any hassle mate and thanks for the heads up.
All the best

I just got my second hand too and I just decided to upgrade the whole ROM. Check the posts in Artemis Mobile. Meschle made awesome ROM 4.1. I use the Vanilla version, probably fastest and not too much additional programs as in the Full or Lite version. Very fast, stable and neat looking. This way you get rid of all old files without wondering which to unistall, etc. Make sure you follow all the instructions on how to upgrade ROM. I was little confused at first, but it is actually pretty straightforward. Good luck.
backlight - mine did this

upgrade to meschle's artemis touch 4.01. you really, *really* will like it, and it'll fix your problem. honestly, it's twice the phone it was after the upgrade.
Thanks both - a few questions if you don't mind - now I am a real newbie at this - am only just about aware of what ROM is ! some kind of memory I guess. I'll keep looking but so far can't find instructions (those for an idiot anyway). There are also so many versions I am really confused - is this what I want ? ARTEMIS VANILLA 4.01 WWE ROM - WM 6.1 Final 5.2.19199 (SDHC). What's the reference to "Radio" - also I'm on a mac and have to plug up an old PC to use sync - very worrying I can see me bricking the whole thing ! Thanks so much for your time - Roger
hi guys,
today is the 3rd day since i posted the upgrade and we had 75 downloads within 70 hours and 36 people asked for the instruction.

2. sheeeng: thanks for posting your result on the forum and offering an alternative download link for people who can't access rapidshare, appriciated it
3. aeropic: glad to hear your 2003 french rom flew to english, i will try to see if i can get a french version for you if you still wish and when i got time
4. bowmoreinfrontofafire: glad to hear your bricked ipaq came alive again, enjoy it
5. LuteK II: hope you have sorted out all the mess between tommy_adsl's rom and mine
for those who haven't share your experience with others, please do so if you have time
for those who just joined the forum and got my instructions, please stay here as long as you can, this is a great place
for those who got my instructions before yesterday that has a page link to ebay:

i was shocked yesterday when i noticed that all the screenshots were updated from PDAViet's 18533 rom to, what a familiar look&feel!
i can't simply judge from that changes but, don't think i am a jerk, here were the actions i took:
1. i killed the download link
2. i posted my ebay item, sell it for 1.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250232653715
i am not going to make a fortune of that, actualy i pull out of my own pocket to cover all the fees in order to list it. i just hate thieves.
for those who still have problem upgrading your ipaq, email me and i will try to help out
for those who are unlucky and can't get the file before i shut it down, please view my ebay item, if you like, it costs you only 2 bulks.
for those who successfully upgraded, i appreciate it if you keep your copy for your personally use only
and again my thanks go to all and this is a great community!

Hi Guys,
Thanks to this forum and I have learnt lots of stuff. After taking knowledges from people on this site and a few days hard work, I think it's time for me to give something back to the community. This is my first contribution so I hope some of you will like my work.
Attached is the link to the WM6 ROM update I created for iPAQ HX2000 PDAs. I have my two hx2495b upgraded and everything works great: outlook, office, windows live, wireless, bluetooth, ... you name it, no power drain problem, no soft reset, fast, reliable, I really love my work.
I don't have any other hx2000 series model to try but I certainly confident that it will work with all models in the series. Here are some screen shots FYI.
Please don't flash your ROM using the file downloaded directly, you could brick your device and I am not responsible for that.
Please message me and I will send you detail instructions on how to install it. I will honor every single request. please allow at least 1 min, at most a day to get my response.
!!!WARNING!!! if you are a junior member and this is your first time flashing your rom, please let me know and I will give you instructions as more detailed as possible.
Also please do not waste other people's time by pm them and asking for the instructions. instead, you can use your time walking through this and other threats and topics. you really can learn lot of stuff here, you can transform yourself from an always "eating out" person to a DIY cooking chef like me.
So far we have quite a few people successfully flash their rom, the devices range from low end 2110 to high end 2790, the original rom versions include 2003 to 6. this is very encouraging.
There do have some hiccups though, here are my suggestions:
1. if you see a symptom where when you close a program and you see some "artifacts" on the Today screen, this most likely is because that when the rom was cooked, the registry settings for today's items were not cleaned up, so to quickly fix this just enable/disable some items or reorder them through today's setting
2. if you successfully flashed the rom but your device doesn't start, simply remove your CF card and reboot again.
hope you who successfully upgraded your rom will share some experience here.
Enjoy it!

How could I use this rom when this file is *.xda ???
Gonna jump out on a limb here and guess that it installs the same way as the other wm6 roms?

Could You explain easier?
This file is a little to short becouse file *.nbf with WM 6.1 should be about 48MB.... - in my opinion

After looking at it I don't think my guess is correct. It is a smaller than my Hermes 6.1 .nbf.
As soon as we hear from samz on how to install it I will give it a go on my 2410. I have WM6.0 on it now and I am getting some random battery drainage that hopefully this rom will take care of.
So we are waiting for Samz's instruction....
It appears that this is some sort of self extracting file. When trying to open with WinRar it ask for password...I say this is little fishy to me.
Flashing right now, will let you all know how it goes
Upgraded, flash went well. Including some screenies..
Good job samz, a very nice and flawless flash!
Feels nice and fast. I will play around with it for a few days and see if I find anything.
Might be time for me to pony up and buy a newer PDA though. It's a bummer that I only have ~12 megs of storage on the PDA but that has been about the same each upgrade since WM5.
Is the HP ProtectTools by Credant still available?

asbestos,
I'm thrilled that the 6.1 ROM is finally fixed & running!
Thanks to samz & all predecessors!
Am curious to know if the HP ProtectTools by Credant is still available in this ROM or as a separate installable cab file?
I need this application as a requirement for my work.
Also, it would be helpful to list what other 3rd party apps are included in this ROM.
Many users have been requesting for a 'lite' version of the ROM to maximize ROM space for persistent storage.
Thanks!

Can anyone help me on HP iPAQ hx2750 Upgrade to WM6?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Samz, this .xda file is different from all other upgrade file extension we find in xda forums, how can we apply this upgrade, I have a hx2795b... Please, send instructions. Tks.

Hp protect is there and it works just fine. This is a pretty light ROM. It looks like samz replaced the usual calendar with 1-cacl lite, there is the normal wm5 explorer (which I replaced right off).
There is no java support. In fact all of the usual jre's do not work as far as I know on the wm5/wm6/wm6.1 other than IBM's J9 (cab included in this post).
Here is the base rom programs:
Games:
Bubble maker
Solitaire
Apps:
Activesync
1-calc lite
File Explorer
iTask
Notes
Pictures & Videos
Search
Task Manager
Tasks
Windows Media
I do not have a "B" revision device. If you do, you most likely have much more rom storage than I do. I started off with about 14 megs which has been pretty much the standard since the old school WM5 update years ago.
I did not need to shuffle ROM's around to do this update. It is probably the easiest upgrade I have ever done on this device other than the OEM releases.
If you want to update to it just follow the directions and PM samz for the directions.
Again, thanks samz for a great ROM. I will be testing it today with my usual routine and see how it goes!

Please pardon my ignorance. I have tried to work out what is going on here for the last couple of months, hoping that it would finally just click. could someone please explain to me what all these ROM's are. So I have an HTC touch diamond with the standard ROM (from the last update, i think 1.9xxxxxx cant remember). With all these 'ROM' developments what more do you get out of the phone. Do you guys still use the TouchFlo 3D? What is HARD-spl? Is it worth changing the ROM? There seems to be a lot of ROM's, how do i know which is the best 1 to use? I feel like i have so many more questions, but please could someone just outline what it is all about.
please excuse my ignorance. I have tried looking it up but i still dont understand so pardon me for taking shortcuts.
Thanks

i don't see how pointing him ti the wiki will answer any of his questions. that thing is as old as the diamond itself.
ROMs are the data image on your phone. the read only memory that includes sys, xip, wm6.1 and tf3d plus all the component packages in a ppc. all the ones floating around here are tweaked and updated by people to work the way they want them to, with suggestions by the testers.
they are all basically the same.
they are based on official htc releases and updated to the latest operating bits from other devices, then shared with us.
its up to you to find what works best on your device in your locale and for your specific needs. you don't have to read entire threads, just the last few pages or from the date that the latest one was released by that cook.
hard spl is a phone condom to keep people from bricking their phone. it is required and very important. i suggest developers edition so you can flash any rom you want.
and yes, flashing a cooked rom is very worth it, but i warn you, once you start you can't stop.
i can't tell you which is the best, i do know what are my favorites, but the journey you will take finding that perfect rom is very rewarding.

I'll give it a look into. Oh, and 1 other thing. If I have applications installed on my phone already, i presume after putting a 'cooked ROM' on it will remove all installed applications? Wouldnt bother me too much, just my TomTom navigation is a HUGE mission to get going. I suppose im on holiday and have time to fiddle.

Everything in the Device is erased when you flash a ROM. Stuff in the Internal Storage stays the same.
By da way you can also flash Radios.

pretty much all apps for ppc can be found in .cab form. this is for easy installation and removal. if you choose a full rom you will get all stock htc apps, but a lite rom is bare bones. keep your collection of cabs on your internal storage for quick re-installation after flashing. also keep a backup of your cabs on your pc.
glad this helps
i didn't want anyone here to tell you RTFM or link you to search page. THAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS. ha lol

ya i can relate to that. Im also quite a forum junkie and I cant stand it when people direct me to search engines. Even on my local PS3 forum people always help out. Thanks to all for your help. Much appreciated.
So if I want to flash a ROM on my phone I just have to sift through the 1's here that are available. Do you guys recommend any? ie. one's that have few problems.
Typically the rom you get with the phone is a generic one, not too fast, full of feature and there to please everybody.
A cooked rom normally strips things down or tunes the device to a specific need. some roms remove as much as they can to give you more ram. Great for those of us who browse the web.
Others load them with more features so you never want for anything.
Others are generic but more upto date. The problem with official roms is they are updated and then go into testing for months and months then get released.
a custom rom will take updated drivers from other devices (like the HD) and place them into our roms with around a weeks testing or less. so we get them sooner. This does have its drawbacks.
A custom rom can be less stable than an official one. but you can get lucky. Duttys 3.6b is a good mix. Its faster than the stock rom, has more features but more memory as the rubbish is removed.
In the past 2 days I have learnt how to cook my own rom, which is the dream situation. I get rid of everything I dont want like Cyberon, transcriber, ringtones and other stuff. SO I have loads of storage free but also add in the software I use the most.
I now have the fastest rom I have ever used and its perfect beacause its tailor made by me, for me. Its really not that hard.

Anyways what Im getting at is a i want a cool home screen like you guys got. I think you guys are using "Chome" if im not mistaken? Where can I get it? Is there a specific one I need to get? Do I need to flash my phone or is it just like a .cab file that I install on my phone? What stuff do you guys recommend I get to just get me started on making a cool home screen? All the 6.5roms have Chome. and they are very customizable. You will need to flash your phone if you want the full package. Check the sticky and make sure you do an application lock prior to flashing.. I personally recommend ookba's 3vo rom and edit everything with Roloracer's titanium filechanger. I also recommend you search this forum for the icon and background thread for some cool backgrounds for your phone. image size for backgrounds are 320x240
RE:
Hey I looked and searched around for the ookba 3vo rom and had no luck. Is It just a rom that flashes me to windows 6.5? Can the dash have windows 6.5 on it? are there any other things or steps I need to Do before flashing the phone? Do I need a program to flash the phone or is it just like a ROM you would download from T-mobile, hook up the phone with usb, an let the install do the rest? Please help. Thanks man.

you dont have to look very far, the rom is 3rd from the top of the list!

Very true. 3volution series rom's are the biggest thing since sliced bread here in the dash world. Let me answer a few questions for the thread starter.
Is It just a rom that flashes me to windows 6.5? Can the dash have windows 6.5 on it?

It is the rom itself that will flash you to WM6.5 using the fore mentioned thread will directly link you to ookba's 3vo rom for the dash. Additionally check the Sticky out. (the very first post) it has a list of everything im linking you too.

You don't really need a "program" everything will come in the files downloaded from the 3vo rom thread. The one thing you will need to do is download and install an SDA application unlock found here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355789
After that's done check out this thread on flashing for the Dash, its a little outdated but everything is the same. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415225
And most of all if you need help you can PM me at any time. It'll take me 30 mintues at most to respond unless i'm asleep.
