REVIEW - Trident Electra - Case with built in Extended Battery and Holster - Thunderbolt Accessories

Alright here's the review I promised...
First off let me just say that so far I REALLY REALLY like this setup. I've been waiting since April (since I got my Tbolt) to find a case that would fit my everyday needs, and just when every manufacturer would release something I had my eye on, it would fall short in one area or another. My preferences when looking for a case was protection but not incredibly bulky, hard outer shell so that it may slide in your pocket easier, and a built in extended battery because we all know the battery on this phone is ridiculous. This case pretty much covered all my needs.
I'll just go ahead and start off with the pics and comments...
Sorry, it's been a pretty long while since I've touched my SLR and Editing software LOL... made me realize I need to re-teach myself all over again. Plus I was in a hurry as I had to leave town right after I shot these. Ignore all the dust particles... It's funny how that camera (16 Mega Pixels) picks up everything LOL!! I couldn't even see half this stuff with the naked eye till I opened up the pictures...

Holster, Electra Case, and Tbolt. Unsure why the "Kraken II" instructions were in there. My guess is the case is so new that they haven't made any instructions for the Electra yet and used this as a temporary measure. No big deal, to be honest I didn't even open it LOL.
Picture of the screen protector which is also protected by a plastic film that you peel off... that's the texture you see. Once you peel this off, it's as smooth as the glass on the phone which was another BIG advantage I liked. I really started to get tired of my ZAGG and the fingerprints. Not to mention it had a sort of "friction" when sliding my finger across when it should "glide" like a naked Tbolt!
Holster, Outer Hard Shell, Inner Silicon Shell, Tbolt, Front Face Hard Shell, and Extended Battery.
The rear outer hard shell. You can see the prongs/contacts made for the antenna. Nothing was looked over!
New Extended Battery (2600 mAh) vs. Original Battery (1400 mAh)
Extended Battery placed in Tbolt.
My poor kickstand has seen better days. The darn clear coat started peeling off one day so I've been slowly scratching it off with my fingernails. I should probably just pull out the old sand paper and be done with it lol...
Case Installed... literally about 20 seconds to do this. Just place your new battery in your phone, place the silicon skin in the rear hard polycarbonate, then place your Tbolt inside there. It literally falls into place. Take the front polycarbonate face and snap it in place and Vwaaalaaaa! All done!
No those aren't scratches on the screen protector, just some finger smudges my camera picked up (the flash did it). Again couldn't see these with the naked eye...
Kickstand works just fine...
The following are just various viewing angles with the screen on/off. Tried to get pictures of every side of the case so you could see all the jacks/ports and stuff...

Pictures with the Holster on the phone. Seems like a pretty nice Holster. Although I know ETX Droid had a few problems with his Kraken II version breaking a couple times. Not sure if they are any different or not. The case EASILY snaps into place, and seems to be locked in pretty good. The case rotates/ratchets as well so that's nice. The Holster itself is a bit hard to get off your belt though lol.
Just a close up of the dust cover over the speaker and the openings in the design for the display sensor and front camera.
Comparison shots of this case next to my wifes Aegis case... It's only slightly larger.
If you like this case here is additional info about it and can be purchased directly from Trident.... http://www.tridenteer.com/products/...t-Extended%2dlife-battery-Bundle-(Black).html
Also I found a 20% off code (for the month of September ONLY) including FREE Shipping!
Code: back2school20
My order came out to $55.99 Shipped...
Mine arrived the day after I ordered it, but I only live an hour away so...

2 questions. Hows the battery life with there battery? And do you know if its about the same size as the otter box? I have it now and the holster broke and this thing just looks perfect to replace it with.

The battery seems to last about twice as long as the stock battery. However today is my first day starting with a full charge (I'm also doing a battery calibration to get the most of my battery). So I'll have a better answer for you in a day or so...
I haven't seen the Otterbox for the Tbolt in person, but I did look at the one for the HTC Evo and this case seems quite a bit smaller than that case did. The Otterbox just looked massive to me. Hence the reason I didn't go that route...

Well I went ahead and ordered one, used the code you provided saved some $ Thanks! I''ll let you now if its bigger or smaller then the otter incase other people are thinking of switching too. From the pics it looks like a tad more junk in the trunk but with the extended battery you cant go wrong.

Take some 400 grit sand paper to the kick stand and get rid of all the clear coat run it down to 800 then 1000, 1500, and 2000. Then run over it with a dremmel with a polishing head and some mothers metal polish. It will leave you with a beautiful shiny kickstand. Yes the google bit will be gone but its worth it.

Well this morning I unplugged my phone on a full charge at 7am. It is now 9:50pm and my battery is at 47%. Previously on the stock battery I'd get maybe 6 hours of use if I was lucky. So, so far I'm impressed!
Also looks like I got this battery just in time. Looks like as of today my area finally got 4G!
EDIT: ok so from 9:50pm - 1:00am I used my phone HEAVILY and it finally burned of the rest of the 47% charge. NOT BAD AT ALL!
That's with the brightness all the way up and playing a game for 3 hours straight lol.

Yea that's what I was planning on doing eventually...

This case sure does look sweet. But $70 for a case is a little much especially for a phone I might not keep for long with the Nexus Prime, HTC Vigor, iPhone 5, etc coming to Verizon soon. How many days did it take to ship to your house? And what state you live in so i can have a clue?

order it before the end of the day today and you could get it for about 52 instead of the 70. use the coupon code for the 20% off and use the free shipping.

What's the screen protector like? Does it adhere to the tbolt or just lay over it?
Thanks

I answered all this in my second post... But...
I ordered directly from Trident and got it for $55. 99 shipped using the coupon code I listed that expires today. That was including tax and free shipping.
I'm in Southern California about an hour away from Trident. It took 1 day to get to my door.

The screen protector is awesome. WAY better than my Zagg I had on previously. Much smoother to the touch and there is no adhesive involved. It's part of the case, so it just lays over the screen but I have NO issues with sensitivity or function. They built it so it hugs the screen and feels like part of the phone.

Well mine came in today, CA to NJ in 2 days aint bad. Its just a little thinner then the otter which in very happy with, but unfortunately they sent me a broken one. The antenna on the back is broken and I was hoping to use this at Dover tomorrow for the race. I may just glue it I havn't decided yet.

Just wanted to say thanks for the review and photos. I've been looking into a Trident case for a while. My Seidio active is starting to wear out. This review was well done! Thanks again.

Yea Im gonna call monday hope they just send me a new one without having to send this one back first though. It works but its still broken. Didn't charge it yet gonna charge it over night wipe battery stats and hope to get a full day of it tomorrow.
This case is worth it though for anyone thinking about buying one. Its about the same size as the otter box slides in and out of pockets easily and doubles your battery life and if you use the code in the OP its about the same price.
Thanks for the review man, very happy with my purchase even though I got a defective one easily replacable I expect no problem getting it replaced.

Anybody else extremely disappointed with the quality of the OtterBox Defender?

I was so excited when the mailman showed up today but that excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I opened up the package. This thing is a piece of junk. It doesn't fit tightly around my EVO, when I squeeze it it creaks. The silicone above the camera area slides around and doesn't sit down properly. The kickstand is a complete joke. I don't even think it's usable, it seems too flimsy to support the weight of the phone. I can't imagine it lasting more than a month. And the holster- Seriously, OtterBox? This is the best holster design you guys could come up with? It's way too big, it doesn't even seem like it was designed for the EVO. The phone doesn't fit snuggly in there at all, it just bounces around freely, which is ridiculous.
I honestly can't believe it took them 6 months to come out with this turd.

That sucks.. But why the defender over the commuter? I have the commuter and IMO it gives just as much protection.. and mine fits absolutely perfect.. Its awesome!!
The Commuter is great, but it doesn't provide the level of protection that I need when I am on a job site. The Defender is thicker than the Commuter, and has much more coverage. Too bad it sucks lol. Going to stick with my Cyclops case until the Ballistic comes out. I'm returning the Defender.
I have had my Defender for a week now and the kickstand is shattered. Junk is right. What did they expect? The kickstand is literally as thin as a sheet of paper. I have now been on hold with Otterbox for 20 minutes waiting to talk to someone.
I am amazed by the engineering choice on the kickstand. For me, the rest of the case works great but the kickstand is a deal-breaker.
Is there a way to return the Defender without sitting on hold for an hour to talk to someone?
Yeah their attempt at making a kickstand is laughable. I seriously don't know how they can charge $50 for this thing, it just feels cheep.
I tried calling them but I hung up after 25 minutes of waiting. I tried putting in my number for an automatic call back but that didn't work. Gonna try calling back in a couple hours.

I sat on hold for about 20 minutes and finally got through. The kickstand problem is a known issue. They immediately offered to send me a replacement. I told them that unless it has a metal kickstand, I'm not interested. They then offered to just refund my card, no return required. I accepted.
I am really disappointed as I like the case overall (doesn't feel at all cheap to me, except the kickstand) and I had waited for a long time for this case to come out. Oh well. Just bad engineering. For $50 they should have used a metal kickstand. You would think someone in their QA would have looked at that kickstand and said, um, guys, this is gonna break.
Definitley a let down IMO, come on. I am patiently awaiting the arrival of the Ballistic HC, at least they have videos on the tube to show how it is made and tortured, they evedently have revised the first conceptual design. looks more "ROUGH" duty.
I am sorry i paid for the otterbox as for patienly waiting for that defender i could have produced one out of a can of liquid grip from Home Depot. ARRRRRG.
Just ordered an Impact Series
http://www.otterbox.com/HTC-EVO-Imp...-EVO4G_color=20&start=3&cgid=htc-evo-4g-cases
... which is basically just a nice silicone case with a screen protector. Using two coupons from here:
http://www.retailmenot.com/view/otterbox.com
... got the whole thing shipped for around $16. The Impact series is nice looking and a screen protector worth a damn alone would cost about $15 so I figured why not? They did right by me with the refund so I thought I would throw some more business their way. I like the Otterbox "look" so it's all good.

I think their screen protectors are the best on the market. They really don't feel like there is a screen protector on at all. I've gone through a ton of different ones and the Otterbox one is the only one that I like.

Cool, well for about $16 with the silicone case shipped I can hardly miss. Like I said, I would pay almost that much for a crappy screen protector alone here locally.
I'm sorry your experience has been so bad. Mine fits like a glove, even in the holster.
My only complaints are the aforementioned kickstand design and the bulkiness of the holster. Those are minimal for me anyways.
I'm very happy with it.
I feel your pain. This thing looks like something they threw together a couple of days before release. I was somewhat satisfied with the case, but the holster is pure junk. For the lead time and price, I guess I expected too much.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Defender. Mine fits snugly, rubber stays in place, holster is awesome and locks the phone in place, kickstand is just fine( i probably wouldn't use it to hold up the living room couch like some are apparently doing)
i really have no complaints. this thing is awesome. i also had a little chat with customer service before it was delivered. The cute sounding girl was courteous and extremely helpful. i'm sure that you're guys sub-par experience is simply due to the immense demand for cases.

What level of protection at a jobsite do you need that a commuter wont work? My commuter is very rugged, 2 layer (silicone then a hard shell) The screen protecter went on great and looks better than any i've used. How "much more coverage" does the defender have? I guess you are dodging bullets? or are you a MMA fighter and keep your phone in your pocket while training? lol j.k If something is going to get through the commuter, i cant see the defender stopping it. Maybe you could offer up some examples? Dont get me wrong, if the defender is as bad as you say it is, then shame on otterbox. I absolutely love the commuter though. It is the best case i've owned for the EVO, and i've been through about 40 or more lol. I've probably tried 95% of what is out there. I've spent more on cases than the phone is worth....doh!! Here are a few of what i have left

I work on a lot of construction sites, and want a case that eliminates all concern about my EVO getting damaged. It gets dusty and dirty so I need something that completely encases the phone. It also gets tossed in my tool bag and that alone requires a case with a superior degree of protection. I use my commuter when I'm at the office or just out and about but it won't cut it for protecting my precious EVO from the perils of a construction site. It's great, don't get me wrong, but no way is it sufficient for what I need it for. I have the Trident Cyclops, which I LOVE, I just wanted something different and was very let down with the Defender.

The kickstand is garbage. A monument to bad engineering. The thinnest part of the kickstand is right at the business end where it will be under the greatest stress.
And you like the holster? Why? It is 2 sizes too large for the case and the clip on the back giggles from being too loose. Worst holster ever.
I'm glad you thought the girl in CS sounded cute - of course THAT is important to the forum :: facepalm ::

I also have nothing bad to say about the case. Kickstand works great, I have even tried to break it and it still work fine. Belt clip is just what I needed, just wish they made a window mount to work with it like the commuter.

You "tried" to break the kickstand on your $50 case? Did you try smacking your screen with a hammer to make sure it wouldn't break?
How did you "try" to break your kickstand and why do such a thing?

[Case][Review] TPU-cases Matte back black

This is a review of a case made by TPU-cases.com of their Matte back black case.
TPU-cases.com: http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36&products_id=147
1st impression:
I received the case prior to getting my Epic 4G Touch, and after opening it up and taking a brief look, I was rather impressed by the case. The materials used are good quality and it looks well made. Initially I did notice that the surface of the case is a little slippery, but its nothing too bad. Overall I had a very good 1st impression of the case.
There was a screen protector included but I fail pretty badly trying to put those on. I normally don't use a screen protector on my phones, but I wanted to give it a try for the sake of review purposes and I was unable to get it installed correctly. This may be user error, but it looks like it may be a combo of an error of mine and the screen protector... it was addressed here by the owner of TPU-cases, OneStepAhead.
After I got the phone:
I received my Epic 4G Touch at 10am on the 16th, launch day. After getting everything set up and activated through Sprint, I installed the case before leaving the store. I was very impressed at how well the case fit, it was a perfect fit. Installation was very easy as well, I had zero trouble getting the case on properly.
One thing I noticed about the phone is that the camera on the back was going to come in contact with whatever surface you lay the phone on. I noticed that right away and was instantly hoping the case would solve that issue, and it did. When you install the case, it sets the camera back in a little so that the lens of the camera doesn't make contact with the surface, which I loved. Also on the front of the phone, the case provides a small lip around the whole phone, which provides a little protection for your screen if you were to set it on a table with the screen down. Overall this helps protect your phone and TPU-cases did a good job.
When I was trying to decide on getting a case for this phone, I was worried about the case taking away the benefit of the thinness of the device, which was a main selling point of the phone for me. I was pleasantly surprised that this case doesn't add much thickness at all, its only very minor and it still preserves the overall slim profile of the device, which is great.
I was also wondering about use of the ports and buttons on the phone with the case being there. The headphone jack, power button, micro usb port, and microphone are all easily accessible and unaffected. I did plug a Samsung headphone into the 3.5mm headphone jack without a problem. The power button is easy to press and is uncovered. There is no problem plugging the micro usb in to charge... the speaker and microphone is uncovered as well.
The only small downside to this case is the volume rocker. When I press the volume rocker to adjust the volume, you definitely have to press it a little harder than normal, and there is a cover over top of the buttons. You can still control the volume, it just is not as easy as I would like it to be. This is not anything that is going to stop me from purchasing the case, and as a whole it's pretty minor to me.
Pictures:
I took 4 pictures to hopefully show the points I've made in this review for you all. I apologize is the quality of the pictures isn't great, it was taken with another cell phone camera as I was taking pictures of the new phone. If anyone would like additional pictures of the case I'd be happy to take them.

Conclusion:
As a whole, this case I got from TPU-cases.com is great, and I'd highly recommend taking a look. The value you get for a very small price is awesome and I will be buying more cases from them (I like to change cases from time to time). Thank you TPU-cases for providing a great product. I give TPU-cases a 9/10 and the only point taken away is for the volume rocker.
If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to answer.
Just ordered this case on Amazon last night. It's supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. Thanks for the review, now I know i'll be happy with it
ordered one today
i just ordered one these today and am looking forward to receiving the case soon.
I ordered the smoke matte translucent model. Can't wait!
That looks great! My smoke case is in the mail. Can't wait to get it, my phone is nakey lol. From your review, ill definitely be buying more colors
Yeah I am very happy with the case, hope you all enjoy yours
I like the TPU case too and I will get one first as soon as I get my phone from letstalk, grrrrrr.
Eventually I want a casemate barely-there cause I prefer hard shell...but these are excellent cases, especially for the money.
I have one for my Evo and I too can't wait for an ET4G version

I haven't dropped it yet, but just going off the case itself, I think it would survive a normal drop. I'm not sure about a 10 foot drop onto concrete or worse, but I'd imagine it would stand up ok for most drops. The material used to make it is very flexible but sturdy on the phone. My only concern for drops would be the screen, and if it was dropped on an angle like a curb.
Yeah, that's my biggest concern. I guess it's better than going naked. I dropped my Evo and cracked it corner to corner. That was a bad day.

Yeah, that's my biggest concern. I guess it's better than going naked. I dropped my Evo and cracked it corner to corner. That was a bad day.

Yeah I saw that, must be pretty popular choice. Hope they get more in soon for ya.
Thanks for this! Glad to hear you are happy with the case. I don't know if anyone mentioned it in this thread, but the screen protectors we included are not cut properly. They are cut to the exact size of the glass which makes them near if not impossible to install without the edges peeling up. I'll be sending replacement screen protectors to those that request them once I receive the fixed ones. It's disappointing, it's the first time we included screen protectors with our cases and the first time using this screen protector supplier. Live and learn I guess. Please don't send me messages about the screen protector yet, I'll post something about it here and on our website closer to the time I'll have replacements. For the time being I've just removed any mention of the cases coming with screen protectors so future customers wont have any expectations of receiving one with their case (although they still will receive one).

This is the 2nd time making the matte cases, the first time we did it for the Evo 3D after receiving a ton of requests for. They ended up not selling very well though. I think I had 500 of the matte black made for Evo 3D and I still have 1/2 of them 6 weeks later. The Epic 4G Touch on the other hand I sold out of 500 before the phone was even released! I'm telling people 9/23 but I actually think they will be in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The 3D just was a bad draw. If you had made some for the OG evo you probably would have seen better numbers. I am going to guess the ones for the ET4G will fly off the shelves and I can't wait to get my case
Edit: Some of your products have Prime shipping while others don't. Just curious on why that is because I have a Prime account hahaha
i ordered the high gloss black from amazon. anyone have opinions on high gloss? or should i cancel and get matte black or the high gloss translucent
Love the Black Matte case. But like stated , the screen protector doesn't fit well. Phone feels good in the hand with the case.
I got the glossy smoke one on now I dig it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
got the gloss smoke case, i really like it but I have found that the volume buttons are very hard to press. I'm hoping this will be fixed over time. Other than that great case.
That screen protector thing had me puzzled for a while, it all makes sense now.

[REVIEW] Ghost Armor full body for T989 Hercules

So I've just placed an order for a Ghost Armor full body skin for my Tmo SGS2 Hercules and this thread is to post a review once I get it!
For those not aware of Ghost Armor, its a wet application screen/body protector that in my opinion is one of the best. I had it on my Nexus S which at one point was in a sweatshirt pocket when I happened to slip on some ice and as phones seem wont to do, it flew out of my pocket and landed screen down on the pavement about 10 feet in front of me. There was not a scratch on the screen nor a crack. Later, while sitting in a recliner my phone slipped out of my pocket and into the mechanics of the chair (without my knowledge). When I put down the foot stool and realized my phone was no longer in my pocket I lifted up the chair and the phone fell out. This time there was damage...to the screen protector; a MASSIVE gash from where one of the mechanisms in the chair had scraped against it. To my amazement the screen was undamaged.
Now that my own little Ghost Armor history is up I'll post a few pictures from the website to give you an idea.

The available finishes for the full body protectors are Black Carbon, Gun Metal Carbon, and White Carbon (the website says you can get a matte one as well but the guy at the kiosk I went to said that the matte ones don't adhere very well to battery covers like ours so he wouldn't apply one). I ordered the White Carbon and will be getting it applied on Friday morning.
For reference, you can buy the screen only protector for $14.99+s/h&tax on the website and the full body kit for $24.99+s/h&tax on the website but if you go to a kiosk to get it installed by someone who knows what they're doing the full body kit'll run you a hefty $42.
~~~~~~~~~~What a long week its been! Jeez! This morning I finally went and got my Ghost Armor applied and DAMN does it look sexy. Below are a few pictures:
Review
So to start with, I got the White Carbon skin which I find to be massively smexy. The first thing I noticed is that unlike on my Nexus S, the edges of the protector along the sides are not very sharp and are actually pretty comfortable to hold in your hand. The second thing I noticed was that the claim that this will improve grip isn't necessarily true; don't get me wrong, this doesn't make the phone slippery or anything of the sort. The back just isn't quite as sticky as the soft-touch back, however, the sides are much more grippy than the standard chrome bezel.
The biggest issue people have with screen protectors though is not how it looks on the back of the phone or how grippy they are: its the screen, so lets get to that. First off, without even turning the phone on it is MASSIVELY hard to tell there is even a protector on. You can see a feint outline that extends very nearly from the top bezel to the bottom bezel. There is a cutout at the top for the speak and thats really it. Even the capacitive buttons are covered (they do not however seem any less responsive to me). Aside from the outline, the first you'll notice the screen protector is on is when you touch the screen; it doesn't feel as … glass-like. I have very calloused fingers (having been a guitar-player for over ten years) so its hard for me to quantify what it feels like but it doesn't have that slippery glass-like feeling of the new screen.
It doesn't feel cheap either though, and thats nice. Really thats all there is to say. The screen still looks down right beautiful and remains very responsive. I'm super stoked about this protector and I think it was well worth the money.
are you talking about the one that has the stand? Those are made out of really cheap material. They crack and chip easily. I put one on my phone and when I tried to take it off, it chip the corner then later on I decided to return it so I take it off the phone again and it chip on the other corner. I was very care when I tried to remove it but it still chip.
Had my SG2 for less than a week and while walking across a parking lot, it slipped from my hand and fell about three feet and landed face down. Long story short, screen shattered. I had the Ghost Armor on my Vibrant and the screen never shattered when it fell from higher distances. Needless to say, got my replacement phone and it's going to get the Armor screen this weekend.
Had ghost armour on my nexus s also only on the screen though was running for a bus flew out my pocket onto concrete pavement. Crack wasnt to bad was still usable thank god because I was on vacation. It kept everything intact
Ive had ghost Armour on every phone in the last year and screen protectors are really good and the carbon fiber added a nice black look to my sensation rather than the ugly brown. I really want to see the white one waiting for the kiosk at my mall to get one so I can get one for free. benefits of being an employee for cell phone stores lol
Can someone link the site info? Id like more pictures and literature.
I have ghost armor on my ipad and love it. I was gonna go with the white carbon this time around for my s2. But I chose the phantomskin chromatics in pearl white instead. One I get it I'll try to write a review. I kinda wanted an extra battery door like they had for my vibrant. So I don't lose the galaxy s II.
I got mine done at a mall kiosk... Payed $22, looks like its not even on the screen... I'm really happy with it
I got mine ghost armored a the mall, but the kid working there was obviously new and botxched the whole job. I just got the sides and screen done in clear. The sides were overlapping on the button and the screen was cut off early at the bottom. I refused to pay for it. Can someone that has applied it themselves post if it is the actual product that is disproportionate or if the guy that applied it was just a moron?
That's weird i got $5 dollars off. Oh well money off is always a good thing. Your welcome
Heading to the mall today to get the screen protector done at the kiosk. I called ahed to confirm they had them for the GSII as well that they have done the installs on this phone and good to go on all accounts. I'm just hoping this screen protector doesn't raise up at all once the D30 case is put back on like it does with my current T-Mobile pos screen protector
I'll try to post some pictures once it's on as well as any comments. I've always used Zagg before so we'll see how the Ghost Armor sp stacks up.
Seidio Surface case review (w/pics)
Hey fellow sgs3 owners,
I just received my Seidio surface case and I'm here to review it. I chose the blue because it is my favorite color and it looks awesome on white, and no I do not like pebble blue at all lol.
When I first opened the package and took everything out I noticed how sleek the case is. The case is broken up into 2 parts (top, bottom). The inside of both parts has a very nice suede type padding as "shock absorption" (idk if it is suede or mesh or whatever but it feels nice ). To get the case on the phone it is quite simple, you slide the top part of the case thru the top of the phone and the bottom part thru the bottom of the phone until both ends meet in the middle. You don't have to force anything and it fits perfect with no space in between ends and no rattling of the phone. Perfect fit.
The feel of the case reminds me of a stronger and more scratch resistant material than my htc one s. It is definitely scratch proof and feels solid in my hand. Gone is the feeling of holding plastic while I am using my phone. The case covers the entire back, top, and bottom of the phone. It even has a raised bezel around the front side so you can set the phone down on any surface facing down and not worry about the screen getting scratched. The cutouts of the case are perfect. The volume and power cutouts are angled so you can get to them without a hassle. The mic, noise cancelling mic, and charger cutouts are cut to perfection with no crazy thickness that would make it difficult to access.
The camera, flash, and speaker cutouts are nearly perfect too. Seidio went with a nice design that covers the bezel of the camera too so your lens is 100% protected from fall and surfaces. Again this case was cut out to perfection.
The one grip I have about the case is that it's a pain in the pass the a** to take off. I have had the case on for about an hour now and I am still trying to take it off I saw a video on youtube where someone says "it takes a bit of pressure to take off" that's an understatement. I feel like I will need a hammer, a machete, and a crowbar (All obvious exaggerations). But seriously I feel like if I apply anymore pressure getting this thing off I'm going to break something lol. This can also be a good thing. you don't have to worry about the case coming apart on impact if you drop it. Like I said it's solid.
This case doesn't add much bulk to the device. It still feels slim and sexy in my hands. I'm not sure about the size of the case but seidio probably has it on their website.
If you are looking for the best protection you can get while maintaining the sexiness of your device I would highly recommend this case. Just be ready for war when you want to take it off.
-not sure why the pictures lost quality when I uploaded them, sorry-
Update I figured out how to take it apart. It's tricky but once you learn how to its easy. You don't necessarily hold the sides and pressure the middle tab. You have to press down next to the middle tab with a bit of pressure without holding the sides and try sliding off. Again tricky but do it once and you will be able to do it again and again.
I bought this same setup from Best Buy but is wasn't labeled as Seidio on the back. I don't have it in front of me at the moment since I replaced it with a Commuter. The case is nice but to thin for me, I fear dropping it from any height since it is slim.
In regard to taking it off I found that if you put you fingers where case opens for the power and volume button and press down on the back it comes off very easily.
This case works great with the Samsung desktop dock.
I have the same case, excellent review by the way Good to know it works with the dock. As far as NFC goes, i was able to easily use S-beam which is powered by nfc, so i would assume the stickers would work as well.
I had this case on my HTC inspire and really liked it....had to switch to the defender after breaking my holster clip while climbing in the attic. Sad day lol. It's a solid case I never had problems with it but....my buddy couldn't get hers to stay together had to exchange a couple times.
Thanks for the review. Like someone else said, I have the version of this case that they sell at Best Buy. I love the case and have been using it for my BB, Evo and now my S3. It was the first case, that I looked for when I got my S3. I am looking at getting an Otterbox only because I broke my OG Evo's screen when it dropped (mine you the phone was almost two years old and had been dropped before), I just dont want that to happen to my S3.
Thanks also for telling us that it fits in the dock from Samsung. Does the one that you posted pictures with also charge the battery (i know it charges the phone but not sure if it charges a second battery as well). I bought the dock from Sprint that allows you to charge a second battery (doesnt charge the phone at all, only the battery). I can tell you that with that case, it does not fit on that dock (it barely fits in landscape mode but you can clearly see that its not meant to have that type of case).
Thanks again for the review.
I have the same exact case with the holster... and I must say my friend... your review is quite correct in all aspects... and I will second that it is indeed a very sexy addition to my SGS3
I too will co-sign this brand of cases. I have one on my Epic 4G, my girl's Epic 4G, and my EVO 3D. The case and holster combo available from Best Buy is decently priced ($30-$40) and they protect the phone well while adding minimal thickness and weight. I know my Surface Case has saved my EVO 3D from quite a few nicks and scratches.
You're welcome guys.
I've been rocking the case since this post and still have no complaints. This has been a nice investment for me. I no longer fear of putting my phone down on my work desk either face up or down and if my boss comes I I don't mind throwing the phone in my desk either. Win win!
I have some questions about this case hopefully you guys can help me with.
Can anyone comment on how slippery this case is and compare it to the slipperyness of a naked S3?
For those of you with the holster, does it hold the phone and surface securely?
Thanks everyone.
I feel that it adds a little more grip to the phone, at least i think it does. I found the phone to be too slippery when naked.
And yes it does hold it securely
Without the case my galaxy would slide across my wooden desk. The same desk you see in the last picture I posted. With the case it no longer slides. It barely moves when I try to push it across so yes it does add some grip.
Hope this helps
This is a pretty good case. I did a review on the convert combo case over at banetech.WordPress.com check it out if you want to see video action for the case. The convert combo case includes the surface case as the set and has the option of adding more protection that ends up looking something like the Otterbox Commuter Case but seems more protected like the Defender series.
But yeah I was struggling a lot with getting the surface case off. I ended up taking a thin blade to the middle to wedge the case apart. After that time though it wasn't as hard to get off. But that assures the case will not come apart if dropped.
I have the same surface case in black, below are my observations:
1) If you are using a screen protector (I use bestskinsever.com) beware, the case fits so snugly it rips the screen protector off as you slide it on.
There is a way around this:
First, let the screen protector set for a while before slipping on the case, a day or two.
Second, I removed the suede material, its very thin as it is, but this helped me fit the phone perfectly as I used the full body kit skin film on the front and back of the phone. The suede material is so thin, I highly doubt it offers any impact protection, I think its there to prevent the back of the seidio case rubbing and scratching the back plastic cover, but if you use a full body skin it doesn't matter.
2) It is a ***** to get the case open the first few times, but after a while it does get easier to open, I guess it needs to be broken in a bit, but that doesn't mean it rattles or anything, it still very snug.
3) This is a very good case, I really like it. It is minimal, covers the phone well (including the bezel on the screen) and has great grip.
4) I have had it for about 2 weeks now and the finish is staying on and hasn't started to peel off, which was a concern of mine.
5) It also hasn't scratched so far and is very easy to clean.
6) Overall I recommend it, but jut beware if you are using screen protectors, follow what I did and you should be fine either way.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for those tips. I'm currently still debating getting a screen protector. I have an issue with how screen protectors look and feel to me. I've been carrying around a microfiber cloth with me and it's been keeping my screen crystal clean. I know sooner or later a hair scratch will come so I have to decide what to do fast. At least I know I can make it fit.
Review of Seidio OBEX case for Note 3 - ULTIMATE protection!!! w/lots of pics!!!
This is a Review of Seidio OBEX Combo case for Note 3. http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-obex-case-holster-black-p/bd2-hwssgt3-br.htm
Let me first start by saying HOW jealous I am this case was only developed in time for Note 3. It was always my dream to have an ULTIMATE protection case for my Note 2, but that dream came true for Note 3 users (and of course S3, S4, and probably S5 as well). The challenge of being able to have a fully certified IP68 case wasn't easy for Note phablet due to s-pen and other port covers, but here it is - finally resolved! I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but it's really not a hype. Nothing currently available for Note 3 will come even close to be 100% Waterproof (continuous submersion), Dust proof, Impact proof, Snow proof, Exceeding MIL-STD-810F standard, and IP68 Water and Dust tight certified - all that in a slim design. Here is more about this wonder case.
Arrived in a nice packaging, once you take a tour of all of it's features listed outside of the box, you quickly realize that Seidio guys thought of every possible doomsday scenario. It can also give you a wrongful impression of some bulky over-sized brick to accommodate all that, though a sneak peak through the box display shows a slim profile of black and red design. Out of the box, the case by itself feels super lightweight at only 75g. It has an excellent grip and doesn't feel in your hand wider than a typical slim case. I have to note that my review is based on using a display model of Note 3, but it still gives you a very accurate assessment of the fitment. OBEX will completely seal your Note 3 from outside world. Every port, every button, every opening, and the display will be covered. At least right out of the box, it was a bit of a challenge to separate top and bottom of the case, but this is actually a good thing. You want to be sure that no matter what happens to this case, if you drop it or compress it - it will not come apart and the internal seal will keep any moisture from getting inside of it. As a matter of fact, it exceed MIL STD certification of up to 6ft drop. The material used in this case is high quality combination of PC and Thermoplastic Silicon Vulcanizate to protect it from any direct impact. The built in screen protect has 4H hardness rating and sealed to protect from any moisture. Internally, you have waterproof membranes to protect microphone and speakers without reduction of sound quality. Also, they used a special anti-reflection glass for camera lens protection so it doesn't interfere with a picture quality. Sealed power, volume up/down, and home buttons have a very nice tactile response. For a more commonly used S-pen and headphone jack covers, Seidio used an easier to access hard rubber flap, while for other top/bottom ports it was partitioned with a hard plastic flap with rubber stoppers. You can still get to your usb charging port, but you need to use your nail and apply a bit of force.
Though I wasn't able to verify this because I only have a display model, Seidio guarantees in it's product description that case will not interfere with radio signals, bluetooth, or NFC - it's all plastic, so shouldn't be a problem. I also have a feeling that wireless charging shouldn't be a problem either. As an additional accessory, it also comes with a waterproof headphone adapter which screws right into the port. But in general, the case is fully functional for everyday use without any limitations of it's functionality. True, it's 2-piece design is not very easy to take apart and you will need to use both hands for that, but that's the whole intent of ultimate protection. In addition to the case, you also get a heavy duty holster with a belt clip, a typical design from their CONVERT series. OBEX can go into that holster face in and face out, and the spring loaded latch has a sliding lock to keep it secure. With face out, you can actually lean your Note 2 in landscape so you can use the holster/clip as a kickstand. The belt clip has a heavy duty durable spring, and it's actually removable to work with Seidio Quest Mounting system to attach to their car mount, bike mount, as well as armband mount.
Overall, if you are looking for a maximum protection of your Note 3, to withstand any and every element of nature and still look cool while doing that - there is nothing else out there that can do a better job than Seidio OBEX case. Don't let the price scare you away, just visit Amazon where you can find this case at a much better deal. To come up with this level of protection for Note 3 was really a challenge that neither Defender nor LifeProof would even touch, but Seidio OBEX nailed it with flying colors!!! Highly recommend this one!!!
crappy case the sound is awful and call is a pain can't hear us with big echos redpepper case is better ! excep for the 3 buttons if you have a tepered glass protector
Add another one who has weary rubber (and partially torn) from going in and out of pocket only. Sound for talking on the phone with the case isn't that great either.
Great protection while it lasts, but far too easy to make scratches and tears on the exterior of the case.
Good job on the review though TC.
zerolemon with new rugged cases are far better and 3x battery lifespan :good:
Beast mode activate! The phones already massive as it is, I'd need a cart to carry this around with me. It wouldn't look very feminine in my pocket.
Seriously? I don't like reviews of this case, that is why I am not buying it. Feminine look? Who cares.
They failed with this case the price will go down pretty fast until t h en I stick with this redpepper does the same thing I tested it pretty good too left my phone in the rain for 24 hours with the case on and also dropped tested it from 1 floor to concrete building and still good as new
I think you'll have a hard time finding someone who is happy with it. I got mine when they first came out and returned it the same day. Proximity sensor wouldn't work while in the case, screen protector was already scratched and there was a glue type residue on the inside of the protector in spots. I'm more than happy with the RedPepper case for less than half the price. I tested it by leaving it in 3 feet of water for 20 minutes and it was still dry inside.
Overall, if you are looking for a maximum protection of your Note 3, to withstand any and every element of nature and still look cool while doing that - there is nothing else out there that can do a better job than Seidio OBEX case. Don't let the price scare you away, just visit Amazon where you can find this case at a much better deal. To come up with this level of protection for Note 3 was really a challenge that neither Defender nor LifeProof would even touch, but Seidio OBEX nailed it with flying colors!!! Highly recommend this one!!!
You're one of the few who would recommend this case, I'm glad someone likes it. RedPepper took the challenge and did a fine job, there are more positive reviews for the RedPepper than the Obex case currently.
Nothing currently available for Note 3 will come even close to be 100% Waterproof (continuous submersion), Dust proof, Impact proof, Snow proof, Exceeding MIL-STD-810F standard, and IP68 Water and Dust tight certified - all that in a slim design.
Not to be picky but the RedPepper case has the same MIL-STD-810F and IP68 ratings.
My suggestion is wait for the obex to go cheaper it most definitely isn't worth no near 80 wait till its like 50 or 60 because in my experience I also had it for a week and it started showing wear and rubber stretched from the top and the bottom. red pepper on the other hand I went biking with it and my phone fell so many times yet it handles it
I don't think I'd want the Obex case even for $50, the RedPepper is working perfectly fine for me.
I would love to find a official place to purchase these RedPepper cases. The Internet is loaded with fakes.
I was just going to say the same thing, if the Ebay ones are fake they did an amazing job "faking" it. I really think they are real though.
