I found this out by accident, but if you hold the home key while you press the power button, it will take a screen shot and save it to your device. No need for root or extra utilities.
Im sure most on this forum are aware of this particular feature

I tried that too earlier, but it keeps showing me the power down menu when I press the power button. It takes the screen capture but the menu is brought up in the process.
I haven't had the menu pop up on me so long as i press them pretty close to each other in time.

if your ever playing any games and you accidently hit home or any other button then you know what im talking about. since the buttons are touch sensitive you may get some accidental clicks. i wish there was a way you could lock the bottom row of buttons, not sure if its possible though. maybe by combining two of the physical buttons (such as volume up and down) we could lock the bottom row until we need to use those keys again and then we could unlock in a similar fashion. is there anyway possible someone could develop this?
+1 for this. I like the idea of it being toggled with volume buttons, or maybe long pressing the power button and adding it to that menu. It would have to be included in a rom though, you cant give that power to just any app. or you'll never be able to close it without rebooting.
every time i watch a video a hit the search button by mistake. i really wish someone would do this. also it would be better if you hold volume up and power buttons.
Ya I actually just had it happen again with gvba. Note: it really sucks if you accidently hit the back button. Lock please!

I just found this in the NS4G forum and I wondered if anyone could do it? I have small hands and it's hard for me to reach the menu button but if the search button could be changed I'd be a happy person

i'd say you need to post those files for someone to work on it.
they have an app in the market but I can't remember the name.
It remaps your search key.
I'll try and adb pull these files if I get the chance...not sure how much editing they need or if you can jsut follow the instructions in the other thread for the NS4G
i had the same problem, so i rooted my phone, installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
and remapped the keys. now im happy

which version did you use
DONT get the galaxy s version.
It works but kinda limited... Still better than nothing.
Also, if you remap, you lose long press.

Long press of home key, long press of search key... Home key brings up task manager, search key brings up voice command. You would lose that.

Has anyone gone in and looked at actually 'physically remapping' the keys.
All I want is to switch out Home and Menu. Plus, if they are actually just switched on the board, there would be no long-press loss.
Eff it, I'm gonna give it a shot.
Update: Nah, forget that... Once I got up in there, I saw that the leads from the cap keys to its controller are all underneath the digitizer, and that is hard-glued to the edge of the board chassis. I'm not going in THAT deep, lol.
Oh well, a shot was given.

not on my phone. they are both working for me
I would love it if I could set more "long-press" buttons on my phone. Like if I could Long-press the menu button to bring up my call history or something like that.
wondering if anyone is able to modify the Samsung framework so we can have a hardware button combo (ie any combination of volume, home and power) to save a screenshot, rather than the stock implementation of palm swipe across the screen.
I find the palm swipe only works for me once every couple of tries, and can often scroll the exact content on the screen you are trying to capture.
Alternatively, Any app suggestions which can achieve this would also be helpful...
EDIT SOLVED already possible with stock frame work... Press and hold both power and home simultaneously for about half a second, and screenshot is captured.
Press n hold the power and home button together !
Power + Home presssed with correct sync indeed
Hmmm doesn't work for me on omega 4.1.... ?? I see online that this should work as an option... Any setting to enable it?
Edit.... Ok got it push both bottoms simultaneously and hold for half a second. Perfect thanks all.
I would have preferred if they stuck with the volume down+ power button combo like stock Android 4.0
Are you holding them in? I thought it wasn't working at first, turns out you just need to hold them both for about a second and it'll work.
I do prefer the SE way of having the option in the LongPressPower options but hey, I love my S3 more.

Glad I found this. The swipe gesture is frigging useless for anything that scrolls.
I just got my GN2 yesterday, and for some reason, I can't take a screenshot by pushing the power and the home buttons. I've never had an issues with my GN1, does anyone have this same problem or any advice?
Go to settings>s motion and check palm swipe to capture.
Simply swipe your hand over the screen and voila.

thanks, i've been doing that, but i preferred the button combo
anyway, i found that you need to simultaneously press home and power at the same time and hold it for about a second
it's odd, because on my GN1, as soon as you pressed it, it would screen shot.
Its really annoy. Menu and Search keep pressed for no reason. I left on desk and look, and menu and search keep pop and look like phone caught virus and play itself. I see my friend got phone with no button but button was on Screen UI. I want on my phone and disable damn annoy button. Sometime my phone "back button" keep pause on game or exit some app. My phone got bricked and tjagged because I was tried on Trinagle away then it sudden Home key hit when I click process.
There any way to disable button and use button UI?
Thanks, Sam
It sounds like you're dealing with the Phantom menu popup issue. It has been talked about here before. It appears to be a hardware defect that usually manifests when signal strength is low. Try turning off data.

You can follow my tutorial. Read the OP a few times to fully understand how to do it before you try it.
