Does anyone know how to get daily briefing to work on this device? I tried pushing the infoalarm.apk, that worked on the epic, to system\app but, it doesn't list in the app drawer. Please help. TIA
What type app is that?

When you set a new alarm, or modify an existing alarm, set the alarm type to: briefing. I hope this helps!
What does the alarm type briefing do?

If you're talking about the one that combines weather, news, stocks, and current events I too have been unable to get it to work I even tried pulling it from a rooted deodexed Droid Charge with no luck. I will try to find which additional apps, (if any) are required for it to run. However, if it requires editing of the TW framework.apk that is currently beyond my capabilities.

that is the one I am talking about. It was my favorite weather app. Since I couldn't get it to work, I ended up getting palmary weather pro and I like it a little better. I was just fine with Daily briefing, though. I never would have looked for another weather appif I was able to get it to work.
Can't install this app
i am on a mooded rom, and i can not install this app.Any advice is wellcome.

I applied the latest RUU for the Droid Incredible (November 2010 Edition). In the past, I always updated the phone, Got Root Access and performed a Nandroid Backup before removing all the Bloatware/Crapware on my phone.
However, this time I am getting very different results.
After the Nandroid, I delete everything I don't want via Root Explorer. I would delete the obvious ones such as City ID, VZ Nav, Teeter, and a bunch of HTC widgets like Footprints, Contacts Calculator, etc.
I was told that if I go into my settings and 'Clear Data' on HTC Sense that it will get rid of the shortcut to the deleted widgets on the Add Widget Window. It always worked in the past except not on this release.
I have reinstalled the RUU several times to make sure it wasn't a n installation error (of course I am performing a wipe). Any one have any suggestions.
Also is there an updated list of what programs are safe to remove?
Thanks.
Why not flash a "senseless ROM"? there are a number of them out there. You lose the stock Rosie and are forced to use either ADW or Launcher Pro. They alsy delete many of the things you have no interest in keeping.
Just another option.
Because I like Sense. I love the HTC Calendar Widget, HTC Clock Widget (with the full screen weather animation), HTC Tip Calculator and the stock HTC Keyboard (Hence why there is also an equal amount of Sense ROMs out there too).
Nothing I have seen out there comes close to what I like.
I've always just used the system app remover from the market

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and report back.
Edit: No doesn't work. I uninstalled System App Remover and Got Refunded. It looks like it can't be done because even the Virtuous ROM has the same issue. Oh well maybe in time someone will figure it out.

I would try removing the apps with Titanium Backup if you haven't. That's what I normally use to remove bloatware. If you "Freeze" the apps, the widgets may be removed, also.
Also, could someone let me in on the secret for adding a custom signature with my ROM/Kernel/Radio/Phone/etc.? I'm new to XDA.
The widgets are gone it's the shortcut for them that need to be removed. RMK had a method of removing these prior to Froyo update 1 which doesn't work anymore.
If you know what the app names are, you can use 7 zip to remove the apk's from the app folder before flashing the Rom.

It works. It gets rid of the garbage shortcuts now. However, you can't put widgets on your homescreens anymore. Very weird. Because the widgets I want to put on my screen are installed.

I'll give that a shot too. However, without even doing it, I think it won't work because of the SQL entries left behind.
I am just being real anal. The garbage widgets shouldn't bother me but I want it to be clean.

Did you ever manage to work out how to remove the deleted widgets from the list?
I just recently installed Koni's Elite Series III. It is my favorite ROM so far. One thing that i cant get to work is the HTC Music, and htc Music Widget apps. He has them as an optional download on the ROM page. I downloaded them, put them on the root of my sd card, and tried to flash the .zip file through clockwork mod. it says Installing update...
Installing HTC Music and Widget...
Done.
Install from sdcard complete.
When I boot back up nothing has changed and the apps are not there. so i tried extracting the apk's to the sdcard's extracted folder and installing them from there and it says application not installed. I even tried to move the apk's to the system\apps folder and install them from there but still no dice.
I tried to figure out how to post this on the rom page but I guess xda doesnt want people asking questions on dev posts haha. hopefully someone can help! Thanks!

The first thing I would do, is check your permissions on both the Music apk, and the music widget apk. Navigate to /system/app, find the htcMusic.apk, and long press it, then select 'permissions'. Make sure that it's set the same as the other system apps. Most likely you just need to be sure that User: read and write are both checked. Once the permissions are set for both of them, reboot the phone and see if that worked.
sweet!
Worked like a charm! I didnt even think about that. Thanks a bunch!!

Ya seriously! so would you know by chance how to get the htc music 2x3 widget? I thought thats what the .com.htc.musicwidget.apk was, but strangely enough that is the standard android 1x3 music widget.... I was hoping to get the htc one because its twice the size and i can control the song without going into the app, plus when the screen is locked it has controls on top of the lock bar

ya, i pulled it from another rom (stock turbo) that has the 2x3 widget. in fact while i was on that rom earlier today (to get this, and the flashlight app) i renamed the com.htc.musicwidget.apk to com.htc.music.widget.blk and the widget disapeared. so.... the htc.musicwidget.apk must be the right file, but why would it only give me the option for the regular android 1x3 widget..... and ya the permissions are the same as all the other widgets. user has read and write and everyone else has just read. I just renamed the htc.musicwidget.apk on my phone on koni's to htc.musicwidget.apk and the android music 1x3 is still there. so i dont think that they are connected, the apk probably just isnt installing right

I would re download your widget, and try again. Are you sure the file didn't get corrupted? (Size is the same as it is in the rom you took it from) The 1x3 widget you're describing sounds like its the widget for the stock android music player, which I also believe is included in konis elite. That would tell me that something isnt right with your com.htc. MusicWidget.apk. did you name it right? (Capitals matter, it can't be all lower case. The m and the w both need tone capitals. (Just throwing stuff out there at this point)

I'm currently using Widgetsoid2.x. When I click on the GPS, it takes me to the Settings rather than switching on the GPS. Is there any similar widget to get this functionality?
(I know that stock control can do that, but it doesn't have the options like Widgetsoid2.x has)
afaik no other widget then the stock one is able to do this (has to do with some kinda rights that third party apps don't obtain i believe).
I have tried several but to no avail.
Am using Widgetsoid too atm.

Tested already. It does the same (works like shortcut to GPS).
It's not SE, it's google (well, any version of android after (IIRC) 2.2). It's a security feature, to stop rogue apps from quietly turning on GPS in the background and tracking your location. Theyve changed it so that the user *has* to do it manually.
This is a Good Thing, but unfortunately it has made things somewhat clunky. I thought maybe installing widgetsoid as a system app would help. But it doesnt. Only way forward seems to be to hook it directly into the operating system, as theyve done with cyanogenmod.

Well sounds good on the security side, but on the usability side it's a downside. Hopefully Google sort out the thing and comes out with better way to do it. I find it annoying when every time I have to do it double time. But somehow SE have their own widgets to do it directly !!

They can do this because their widgets are hooked directly into the operating system, which has been modified to accept them by SE. A third party user app doesnt have this level of access (and nor should it IMO).
In theory i think it should be possible to installed something like widgetsoid as a system app on a rooted phone, and have it control the settings directly.
Is there any way I can get the standard ics Dialer/contacts/etc onto my phone? Samsung's are rather poorly designed.
you have to go into apps and clear defaults for twiz launcher then press home button and select the other option

That only changes the launcher to the vanilla ics launcher. But the phone/contacts app is still touchwiz. I'm looking for the same thing, no luck yet.
There's a good ICS messaging app and ICS Calendar app on the play store. No root required (although i'm rooted and i'm sure you are, too).
Download AOKP or CM9 and pull the apks from system/app and push them to system/app on your phone. reboot.

As it turns out, this was a really bad idea. Or, well, there was a really bad idea stuffed in there somewhere... maybe the part where I had to uninstall samsung contacts before I could shove the good one in. Anyway, my phone is pretty much in disaster mode right now. Even if I did have contacts installed, android.process.acore keeps stopping on me... which seems to not be good.
I imagine I'll flash CM9a6 now. wish me luck.

HAHAHAHAHAHA... I don't know if you intended for that to be funny but it was. HAHAHAHAHAHA...
Here's the stock google dialer and contacts app I pulled from my nexus 6 when i had it. It's not the motorola framework dialer and contacts, but pure google stock. They are in separate folders. I've also have a few that I've pulled from the web as well. I hate the ugly skin that lg uses, and miss the true material look from Google.
You HAVE to be rooted for these to even remotely work. Use root explorer or whatever app you use, mount rw and install as system apk (go to system>priv-app). Folder will need rwxr-xr-x permissions. Give app r-r-rw permissions. So far, contacts are working and I've gotten the google in-call ui to work by placing the apk in the lg in-call ui after renaming the original lg-ui. Can't get the dialer to install. LG skin is deeply rooted in thier framework, so it's kind of a pain. I'll keep digging into this to make some progress. In the mean time, if anyone else wants to chip in and help out, please do so.
In the link to my drive folder there will be 4 files. One of them is a flashable zip named GoogleContactsDialer (credits to whoever put this zip together. Wasn't me). Another should be the dialer in non flashable zip, and the other files are the respective standalone apks. I would suggest flashing the flashable zip, as it has the libs folder included.

**UPDATE**
Ok everyone, I have a quick second to give an update (getting up at 0430 is killing me right now lol) on things in reference to the dialer. Make sure you are using the flashable zip. The separate apks are ok, but the zip makes things easier.
Basically most hassle free method I have used to get it to be the primary dialer and contacts app is by using TB to freeze these 2 LG Dialer and Contact applications that are listed below.
*Call 4.60.79.10
*Contacts 4.56.18
I'm using KLWP and Nova for most of my homescreens. I'm linking the Google dialer apk to whatever phone KLWP icon using Nova Activities>Google Dialer>Phone(com.android.dialer.DialtactsActivity; make sure you select this one). For those that use Zooper, the same method would apply.
In reference to getting the dialer icon to show up in the app drawer on its own, I'm still working on that.

Sorry guys that I've been MIA. Work and personal life have been really busy. I didn't remove the LG apk but just froze them with TB. So far the LG Contacts app doesn't override which is good, and I've set Google Contacts as my default. I'm trying True Caller but honestly don't like it. Like you said, it is working - mostly. I no longer see the dreaded LG dialer (yippee!) but a couple of minor anomalies remain.
On an incoming call I do not get a full scree caller id and swipe to answer as I did on the N4 device;
Like you, I had to use Nova to create the desktop icon (which is no big deal I suppose);
When I bring up the dialer I see a "Speed Dial" tab but I don't see all my favorites (starred contacts). I tried clearing cache and data for the dialer but is not showing me the same starred contacts as the Contacts app;
Other than the above it seems to work quite well.
[ EDIT ] It seems that there is a difference between the contacts storage that LG maintains and what Google Contacts/Dialer maintains. I cleared data and cache for both, the LG Dialer and the LG Contacts app - note that in my case they were both frozen so I had to use ROM Toolbox to do this - and had the system re-sync contacts with Google. All of the sudden ALL my favorites show up as expected and, incoming caller Id is now displaying as it did on the old Nexus 4. Yippee! Apparently some minor issues can be corrected by reinitializing the contacts database on the phone.

Did you start out with a clean, well working system or could it have remnants of previous attempts to install a dialer? Most of my troubles came from the fact that I missed to clean somethng up from a previous attempt.
Essentially, I did not do much different from the OP. Starting with a clean system (I backup frequently with TWRP when I experiment with new things!) I flashed the zip file, rebooted, created the desktop icon for phone, froze the 2 LG modules with TiBu. I also copied the Google Dialer apk to the LGInCallUI folder in priv-app and renamed (but not deleted) the LG version which did not seem to make any difference to usage (I was hoping for a full screen caller Id).
As noted above, it seems to be working quite nicely with the 3 1 caveats I listed.
