thought i wanna share this everyone but i noticed that my battery is wayy off, its showing the green light and its showing 98% but im using the WIFI Router does this still mean that the battery is out of calibration, today is only day 2 but ive been noticing that this morning, charged it on USB on PC and the charging light shows but when im on opera, instead its starting to drop little by little....what can i do to prevent this from happening

It is possible to drain the battery faster than the charging cable supplies power, especially if you're plugged into a USB port (which supplies much less power than the wall plug). Things like wifi sharing in particular can do this (it takes a lot of juice to broadcast that signal!), possibly even just running data over your 3G (like with Opera). The battery will get even warmer than usual when this is happening, and I suspect that can also reduce it's lifespan.
So right now I've got my phone charging off my wifes macbook. I've installed the % battery mod so I can see how much juice I actually have, and in the last 20 minutes of use its actually gone DOWN fron 11% to 9% while ON the charger.
Wtf? I'm on wifi with screen brightness on max, but shouldn't it still atleast maintain the original level?

If you're charging off the computer, no. A computer's USB port can only push so much power.

Exactly. USB charging is sooo much less powerful than the wall. Also, the Nexus right now is pretty bad on battery life and having the screen maxxed out doesnt help lol.
Lol am I the only one happy with the lowest screen brightness?

Probably, can't stand it any less than 1/3rd
A laptop can't put out enough power to charge the phone under use. Especially if you're using LTE. You'll have to use a wall charger.
Same thing happens when you surf using wifi while plugged into the wall, I made a thread about this two weeks ago.

Mine does same, GN is crap in this way, my iPhone 4 could easy do that.
on my Thunderbolt & Rezound, the phones would still charge via "Charging USB" while connected to PC even during tethering... so long as i was just doing simple web browsing. If i tried to download something or do some online gaming, then the battery would go down.
I found also that if i had them charging in my car, also in "Charging USB" mode & streaming music to my stereo via AUX, it would also lose power.
The same exact thing applies to this Nexus also. However, if i have it plugged into PC and do wifi tethering instead of USB tethering(much slower data speeds), then i can download/game and it will actually charge... just very slowly.
As for the car, if i use an actual power inverter so that it will stay as "Charging AC", then i can stream/download/etc and it will charge up normally.
I have some USB cables that have a mini-USB on one end & split off into 2 USB-A(male) connectors on the other end. they are intended for external Hard Drives that need more power then what just 1 connection can supply...
i think i am going to modify one & replace the mini-USB connector with a micro-USB and see what happens.
this is so simple.
if charge equal usage=charge will be 0+/-%
if charge is greater than usage=1+%
if charge is less than usage=1-%(batt drain even if hooked to pc or laptop or wallcharger)
not actual charging numbers. but just a figure on how it works,
this also counts for the wall charger.
So my s2 has been charging really slow, like today it took like 5 hours to fully charge, and when connected to charger if I'm using it it wont charge very well, like the battery will stay at lets say 20% when im using it and charging it, it might even go down more. it used to charge pretty well even if I was on it. Cuz this be the charger, or is my battery messed up?? Im using the charger that came with the phone.

Are you charging through a usb port on your computer or ac? If it is with usb port then yes it will charge at a much slower rate. Also if you have a lot of apps running or backround data going it will also cause your charging to slow down some. I would say through usb without any apps open and backround data stopped It would take a few hours to charge say from 20%. Through AC in the same condition probly 1.5 hours. Try to reboot your phone and then plug it in to charge to see if that doesnt speed it up any. If it does then you know you have backround data moving at a fast rate and that would be your reason to slow the charge down.
Yeah I'm charging with the wall charger, not thru usb

thats pretty weird...have you tried using another usb cable?? maybe the cable is faulty?
Calibrating the battery

You could try calibrating the battery, maybe. To do that, turn the phone off. Charge to full (make sure it's full, by taking it off of the charger and putting it back on...the indicator should read 100% almost immediately when reattached to power).
When the battery is full, with the phone still turned off, remove the battery for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, reinsert battery and restart phone.
Battery will be calibrated. This may not resolve the problem of a slow charge, but will clear 'battery memory' which may have been preventing it from charging completely (and, I suspect, may have inhibited charging).
Good luck!
I was using an aftermarket wall charger and had similar results. Switched to the USB/AC converter that came with the phone and all was well.

Yes, try Battery Calibration from the market. Only works on rooted devices, and follow instructions.

Actually, one doesn't need an app to calibrate the battery. If you follow the instructions above, the app is unnecessary. And the phone mustn't be rooted
YODA? ^^^^
Hey elflip88, have you found the issue yet?
I have the same problem on my HTC Amaze 4G. It's charging 1% every 3 minutes (adds up to 5 hours)
I'm also using the wall charger...oh damn, I'm starting to think I have a faulty device / battery...
yelp!
For the record Samsung devices are known to be slow at charging so with that considered.... You still shouldn't be at 5 hrs. I would find a battery stats app charge your battery over night and check the chart to see exactly how long it takes to go from 0 - 100. Make sure your batter status is good. Also check the voltage coming into your phone from your charger. There are plenty of battery stat apps in the market that will do this sort of thing. Of course make sure your battery doesn't have water damage of course too lol.

I've had the same problem with mine. But, I can get 1.5 days without charging and moderate usage. Charge it up, drain it, charge it back up then wipe your battery stats in recovery.
This may help if you're using an aftermarket wall charger
If you guys are having issues with slow charging using an aftermarket wall charger, it could be that the phone is charging in a USB state rather than an AC charging state. QuickCharge could alleviate your issues. The cable is inserted between the wall charger and the USB cable that goes to your phone. You can find the product on Amazon. It's the 2nd of 3rd item from the top when you search 'QuickCharge'.
I find that when I fully drain my battery and charge it, it's really slow. Once the phone has enough battery to stay on, I unplugged it and replugged it and it charges normal again.

It's your wifi and your apps using wifi. Turn wifi off while charging. I used to charge 4 hours + on my S2. Reduced to 2 and some change when I turn off wifi.
Also, I struggle to make it through a working day with wifi on. Turn wifi off and I can do 4 days no problem.

I old suggest using a different outlet if you haven't done that yet.

So recently I have been wondering if the way I charge my phone could negatively affect it. So I'm wondering when, and how you guys charge your phones?
I personally drain it as much as I can (to dead if possible), then plug it into my wall charge and leave it plugged in overnight. (Since I kill it right before I go to bed)
Nah, just charge whenever you need to. I would avoid completely draining it as that can damage lithium batteries.
At night. Wall charger.
No reason to be worried about negatively affecting your phone by charing it a certain way. It's going to be okay .

He is safe, this isn't a concern as there is internal regulation in the battery pack itself. It cuts out output to prevent completely draining.

Might I add I have the extended 2100mA battery.
I charge when needed (keep a charger nearby at all times) and am only concerned with keeping the battery from dying and leaving it at full charge for more than a couple of hours. Most of the time this results in once a day charging before bedtime but if I'm downloading or tethering all day (recently lost my wifi connection) then I'm looking at 2-4 charges a day. Kinda lame but eh, electricity is cheap.
I charge it when it needs to be charged.
Trollollollolloll.

Your practice is bad. The deeper you discharge a battery, the shorter its overall battery life will be. However, it's also not good to keep topping it up, thereby keeping the batter in a perpetual high voltage state. Just use it normally, and charge it at the end of the day.

I hear waiting till level gets to 40% to charge is suggested. Keeps the battery stuff moving properly. Think I read it on CNet

Meh I just charge it whenever and haven't noticed a bad effect on it yet. I put it in and out of car dock multiple times a day. Always charge it at night when sleeping. And if I'm at home all day using nit a lot I might charge it an extra time if I wasn't getting topped off in car dock.
I charge my phone at night while I sleep. Oft times it's dead from being charged he preceding night.
Another question. How is cell service in the majority of users areas?
I have no service at all for at least half the day (school and home). At work I have good service, and I'm only ever in other good service areas for no more than two hours. I finish off the day with an average screen on time of one hour and thirty minutes.

My phone gets about -90dBm on LTE near Chicagoland area at home. At school, my signal drops quite a bit, and I get about 2 bars (No idea what dBm, never checked.) but overall, I usually have great signal and speeds.
I also average about 11 hours of just normal use (for me, checking it quite a bit, playing games and listening to music)
I rarely plug my phone into the wall outlet. I have the pogo pin dock so during the work week I have it sit on the dock all day and it is fully charged when I come home from work. So even with heavy usage at night, I never have to plug it into the wall whether that be after work or when I go to bed. The next day I just charge it back up at work.
The only time I run into battery issues is during the weekend. But since I have two batteries they normally can get me through the whole weekend without having to plug it in to the wall too much (again it depends on usage).
Really depends on the situation. If I need the phone next day and won't have access to charger for sure I'll charge overnight from USB port on one of my comps that is on 24/7. Usually I don't let the battery go below 20% before charging. I'm also always charging the phone when driving since use my GNex for listening to music with Spotify and always force the screen to stay on during those times. Don't want the battery to drain when driving due to having the screen on for long time.
I have the n7105 and am fortunate enough to have an extremely generous 80GB cap on my LTE service. Its also insanely fast, so I am now using my phone as my primary internet hotspot at home and in the office. I'm afraid this might be harming my battery because of all the charging and discharging. I charge my phone overnight. By early afternoon its down to 40% and I normally charge it back again to 100% then by bedtime time its again 40% and I charge it overnight. Would it be better to just leave it on the charger in the office and most of the time when at home? Or is my current schedule okay?
Please don't all answer at the same time, makes it hard to hear :silly:
I used my Note II (and DHD before that) as hotspot for 3-4 months (my router died) and I just kept it on charge while being used as HS. Didn't notice any side effects on the battery. Hard to tell what is better, to leave it in charger or constantly discharge and then recharge.... but since the battery is replaceable, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
