Is it possible to make a goldcard for my HTC Desire if it is not booting into recovery e.g can i make one on the pc?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
heres a link to a guide to make a goldcard. i dont remember having to do it in recovery when i made mine a long time ago, but i would recommend just rooting it with unrevoked. saves all the hassle
@Kokocabana
I'm a noob with a Telstra branded Desire 8183. Does unrevoked kill the need to use a goldcard completely? I researched a lot but can't find whether it works on a branded desire. I plan to use GingerBurst ROM so I'm hoping this will all be compatible.. I really don't wanna brick this phone!
Any help is greatly appreciated

You need a goldcard, if you want to install a ruu and get an cid error. Using unrevoked cannot avoid this.
No goldcard required, I used unrevoked and flashed cm7 rom.. no problems at all

Ruu means stock rom, so the official released roms by htc. Has nothing to do with customs roms.
Ahh ok thanks for clearing that up for me, I'm new to all this

Hi to all !
Three weeks ago I got my HTC Wildfire S and it was shipped as S-off.
This is what I get if I access HBOOT mode:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.35.08
Apr 8 2011, 17:45:10
I tried: Gingerbreak 1.20, SuperOneClick v2.0, Z4Root, Unrevoked 3.32 and all without succes to root my phone.
Is there any other way to do this ?
Can I flash Wildfire S with one custom ROM and then try to get root ?
I read about that this official ROM with Gingerbread 2.3.3 still have kind of NAND security.
Is it possible even if the phone is S-Off ?
Can I downgrade to one other, lower version then 2.3.3 of Android and get the root and then again come back to higher version of Android but then with root access, and if yes could someone explain how to do this please ?
Are the ROM's from old Wildfire (Buzz) compatible with Wildfire S (Marvel) and what is the risk to test them and still not to brick my phone ?
Thanks in advance to all !
Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already).
Interesting ,
Shipped as S-Off by mistake ?!?
Some devices are shipped S-off.
This thread is ready to be moved to the General section
O.K.
But is there any chance that later, after update, it will not work anymore as it should work or something like that ?
And how can I preserve (BackUp) this original ROM from this device without root access and before flashing, because if something go wrong then I can restore the original ROM ...?
Greetz !
And to Mods I owe an apologie for posting in wrong section, sorry.
Rooted
I did what LeeCHeSSS has me suggested and now is my Wildfire S rooted and with SuperUser. I didn't use custom recovery.
Thanks LeeCHeSSS !
Dankjewel !
Mine also came with S-off. Did anyone rooted this device? Is there any kind of tutorial for this? I am doing this for the first time in my life..
Look in development section.

I found it! I was looking at the wrong thread! I will try the tutorial I found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275.
Just did it and it works! Everything is OK! I have root . Thanks and special thanks to Heritz !
Downgrade to older stock ROM
All what you have to do is to download official ROM as LeeCHeSSS has explained up :
"Since your phone is S-OFF, you could try flashing the official ROM :http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?ca...d&model=Marvel
On that ROM, Gingerbreak is guaranteed to work (I've done it twice already). "
After that you have to download Gingerbreak 1.20 and execute it and after that your device will be rooted.
You don't need custom recovery.
Cheers !
Or just flash a custom rom which is pre rooted.

Hi all, so I've been trying to update my hboot from 0.75.0000 to .93 but have been FAILING miserably. I'm currently on ICS, and have tried alpharev which didn't work. Trying to flash rom to RUU has also failed but I don't know why. Flashed my radio to match the one with the RUU and that didn't work, which i'm guessing is due to the inability to simply flash from ICS to 2.2 or 2.3?
So my question is, any other tips?
Try to flash the hboot downgrade from alpharev then the right RUU. If that works you can root and s-off your phone with unrevoked/revolutionary. If you want to change hboot to cmr7 or data ++ (example) you MUST be s-off......

Thanks for tip, I've actually done alpharev and it also failed. Reason being it needs a rom that doesn't already have a2sd, any suggestion as to which rom is suitable?
Thanks
Edit: I've actually online done the hboot reflash, and not the downgrade. Will give that a go first and see what happens.
I think that all the rooted roms have some sort of a2sd, that's why I think you have to start from the beginning. Start with an original ruu.bring it back to its original state wich came out of the box...my knowledge doesn't reach that far ;-) its the easyest way I think.

Can you post your complete bootloader. Turn of phone, hold down volume and press power. What info does the left upper corner give you ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It is:
BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MICROP-031D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
MAR 5 2010,21:12:15
Still I think what's best is to go back all the way and install a ruu. Then go directly to revolutionary. It will root and s-off your phone and installs the custom hboot.
Maybe I have more time to help tonight, I am at work now :-(

That's what I'm thinking too, hence why I'm trying to flash an RUU onto the device. I however get this error when I do it
Error[140]: Bootloader version error
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again
I conclude that the downgrade did not work ?

It didn't and wouldn't cause my phone is still on S-On, I'm however dling some newer RUU so fingers crossed that helps.
Ah yes ofcourse. There is a stickie in the Q & A section here that has info and troubleshooting. Maybe point 3 and 4 can give you some more info !

Is it possible that your phone is branded by provider, in that case you have to create a goldcard first. I have no experience in this. Hopefully I am pointing you to the right direction.

Hey there, firstly I would like to thank you for ALL your help and of course the effort you've put in it.
I've actually fixed it by firstly going to page ~16 of the android development forum for the desire, get an old rom, flash it in and then performed the alpharev. Lo and behold it worked because the rom is reasonably old and a2sd was "new" then. Flashed it back to ICS now and I am proud to announced that I S-OFF'ED!!! Partition done and OFF I GO.
That's great !!!! Have fun with your fixed desire )))

@bjornzzz Any suggestion on which rom you flashed. I've arrived at this boot loader while going back to stock from alpharevx hboot / ics rom.
Flashing an Ruu before flashing the alpharev downgrade didn't help much. LOL

Flash the downgrader hboot from alpharev.nl then run the ruu again .
I suggest you to back s-on only for warranty purpose. In case of that after the downgrader flash the froyo ruu 2.29.405.5.

Thanks for you're reply, but it doesnt matter wich extensie right? .zip/.exe
You can use a ruu.exe or a PB99IMG.zip but the zip should always be a last resort. Some people are often too lazy to get their usb cable from upstairs or in too much of a rush, they must do it on the train to work....

Download PB99IMG_stock from alpharev.nl and flash your phone, then download htc sync from htc.com.
Then, if you want 2.3 rom - download 2.3 ruu from http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152, extract, connect to htc sync and then click RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe. After few minutes you'll get stcok fresh anndroid 2.3 with s-on.

How it works is with a RUU you can only use the same version or newer. This is because you cannot flash an older hboot. The downgrader puts a very low hboot version on so all ruu hboots are seen as newer, even though they are not

Not sure if it also works for the wildfire, but on newer HTC devices (Evo 3D, ...) with s -on, you need to flash the boot.img seperately with fastboot.

To go back to stock... You need to flash an RUU which you can get here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz. Download whichever suits your region, whatever... You can flash easily using FASTBOOT. But bear in mind... Since you are S-ON, it will be hard if not impossible to flash a ROM lower than the one you had before rooting. I'd recommend this RUU RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed (if you were on Eclair or have HBOOT 0.80) incase you need S-OFF. Good luck!
download ruu that suits your region, extract rom.zip from it, rename the rom,zip to PC49IMG.zip, put it on root of your sdcard, reboot the phonein hboot, wait for it to scan for pc49img, when it scans it follow the onscreen instructions on how to install it, and voila, youre back on stock rom.
