factory restore - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

anyone know where I can get a copy of the factory rom so I can flash back to original factory state. I should be able to do that with stock recovery?? I use nvflash for tegra 2 devices. Is there anything similar for samsung devices??

Dude,
You're not alone. You and about 456,289 people want this.....
Keep checking the developers thread. Watch for Zedomax to have it for us soon....

[Q] Help with KIES emergency recovery

Hey guys,
I've been working on rooting the new Captivate Glide, and unfortunately my kernel flash with ODIN failed (inexplicably). Now the device is complaining I need to perform an emergency recovery, but of course the device isn't listed in the KIES panel.
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I searched and didn't find anything.
Can anyone explain how KIES works? What is a recovery code? Do I need to get one from Samsung? Is there any other way to force it to perform the recovery on my semi-bricked phone?
Wrong forum ...
There isn't a forum for him yet, so this is the best he could do.
Try going to download mode and flashing again! Try again, until it works, redownload the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Actually, strangely enough ... I entered 3e recovery (out of desperation) and rebooted, and it cleared the flag, allowing it to boot up normally.
I checked the kernel timestamp (cat /proc/version) and it appears to still be the stock kernel, so the NAND update completely failed.
I still would like to figure out how to force a KIES recovery, but at least for the moment I'm back up and running (till I take my next shot ).
Kies is garbage, don't worry about it.
It's just like Odin only there are a retarded amount of checks to make sure it's a supported phone...which usually fail if you're on anything other than stock or your imei has changed to a generic one, or any other reason it wants to make up to fall.
To root you should be able to flash the fugu kernel, which will cause a bootloop, then flash that stock kernel again, then once that boots you should have root.

Frustrating. The n900 flashing tool was so excellent (and cross-platform). Wonder why Samsung would release such a piece of junk.
Anyway, I'm back in business now and still working on it.
I'd love to try one of the other kernels, but since I don't have any recovery path (stock kernel / image / firmware), I'm really nervous now.

[Q] BEST method for restoring FULL FACTORY STOCK?

I attempted to restore my fiance's S3 to full factory stock about a month ago now, after I received a prompt for the ~82MB OTA update, and she didn't... She was tired of me taking her phone and keeping it out of her hot little hands whilst I made nandroids and flashed the latest updates to BlazerROM, and she didn't have a problem with stock ROM, so I figured I'd put it back for her.
Well, I did, and I KNOW I left CWRecovery in, and not sure if I left root or not, but she STILL has not received the OTA update which still bugs me... So I need to know what is the BEST method for FULL STOCK RECOVERY? I don't want her missing out when the Jelly Bean official drops, and I may flash mine back when it hits just to test it out...
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935973
Which directed me to QBKing's site, but also warned that the video was now somewhat dated...
Am I assume that by saving her text messages and contacts, and flashing the ODIN .tar listed on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919919 and just letting her re-install her apps, is an effective way to return to FULL and UNMODIFIED stock? Should I run Triangle-Away before proceeding? Will this return the device status to Unmodified (or whatever it says) as opposed to "Custom" in the Status page, as it currently shows for her, in case of warranty needs?
Sorry to be "That Guy", but some of the other topics where a bit vague and lacked details, so I figure if we can get something Semi-Detailed and answering most of the big/general questions, perhaps this could serve as a Go-To thread for others who wish to do this...

Thread youve mentioned above also works fine. If using odin method, run triangle away beforehand. Neither method will wipe data. Depending on the rom you're coming from, it may not be necessary. If you flash without wiping and the rom fails to boot(hangs on glowing samsung logo), go back to recovery and factory reset. Itll boot right up

i cant thumbs-up you hard enough.... thanks for that awesome pile of resources
JUST TO CLARIFY!
On your thread you updated just this morning with the flash-counter reset included, just run in CWR, and all is good, if not, then factory reset, and all is good? Or factory reset, reflash, all is good?
EDIT: FLashed
In download mode;
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L710
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (not sure what that one is haven't done more than root with oden and flash)
System status troubles me... ODEN flash, or let it full reboot? I went into download to check before first initial boot after flash. will allow full boot and see what happens...
EDIT 2: Well, android system status shows Normal... Girl woke up and took her phone back, so will check oden later.
Yup the one updated today is just that. Flash and reboot. Youll be 100% stock
The system status in odin will probably fix itself after booting. If not a factory reset should do it

Seems to have worked. I wish I had money to donate to your wonderful work. Hopefully she'll be receiving prompts for OTA updates for JellyBean shortly... Thanks for also having it up to date. At least I gather it DOES include the ~82MB update she's been missing... Keep up the wonderful work friend!
Glad to hear it. Much appriciated. Now if only the damn thing would be stickied...XD

[Q] Fresh start on a Galaxy Wonder

Greetings,
I've been playing around with my Galaxy W far too much. I probably got stuck at boot with 3 or 4 different roms.
Currently I'm on a semi working version (AFAIK the wifi isn't working) but I'm surprised it works at all, since I have a 3.* kernal for a 4.* android version...
I've been told about a tool that does a factory reset to your phone. It pretty much wipes everything in it and restores the software in it to the way it was the day it left the factory.
My question is, where can I find that piece of software? I've been told something about a Samsung program for developers or something that just requires your phone drivers in a Windows computer and it will restore through the usb your phone...
Can anyone please shed some light on this?
Thanks
Regards.

The program You are looking for is the Samsung Kies, but I would recommend you to use Odin instead. Download the latest 2.3.6 firmware for your region (Google Sammobile, you gonna need to register), and search for it. After it follow one of the several tutorials for flashing with Odin and you're gonna have a fresh working phone again.
After using odin, boot into stock recovery, wipe data/factory reset and you're good to start messing around again

System UI crash evry time it tries to restart after root66 flash

never had this problem first here is all the background information from my last thread (yes i must be challenged)
really I don't know what to do
I believe i need to completely erase everything from my device as i cannot think of what else it could be but some conflicting something somewhere I am not educated enough to know
it flashes fine with odin but always system ui error I will be trying to go back to 4.1X as i believe that was my last bootloader and hope it works out. In all i want to update to NC2 and take advantage of the last roms beuing developed for this device.
In all i want to get my phone working again i need to get and send calls and texts so i plead for help Any question i will answer to the best of my ability
I have flashed with odin 3.1 and 3.07 NC2 then MJC basically both root 66 4.3 roms I don't know what my problem is maybe if while im waiting for help and using a root 66 for 4.1.2 (last working state) i will use recovery to wipe the sd card? idk but in all i think i need to start FRESH as long as i can get my contacts from Google i'm fine (and the phone rings and such lol)
IM eagerly waiting for help!!! someone else who is having a crappy holiday season maybe you can relate when you get in a funk where it seams everything breaks or needs to be replaced at one time
TUIA
You can't flash back to 4.1 with Odin. Root66 performs a full update including bootloader so no downgrade. You probably just need to factory reset with recovery. Just make sure you backup your internal sd

Try this

Some apps don't work after rooting issue

Hi all,
I ran into an issue while trying to root my Samsung Galaxy S III. I used a tutorial from Max Lee on Youtube (can't post link) to help me get through the process . There was a step that used Titanium Backup to check if you rooted your phone correctly. However when I downloaded Titanium Backup and tried to open it, I didn't see the superSU request window like it appeared in the tutorial. It was stuck on "asking for root rights..." I decided to reinstall Titanium Backup to see if it would help. After uninstalling it, I realized my Play Store would not load anything. I looked at some other apps and they wouldn't load either (Gmail, Hangouts, some games, etc). I tried logging out and back into my Google account but that didn't work either. A lot of my apps aren't working after attempting to root my phone and I'm not sure what the issue is.
I'm new to this sort of stuff and I couldn't really find an answer for my problem (at least not that I could find on Google). Sorry if this has been asked already! Could anyone tell me what I could do to get my phone back to it's original state at least? I'm kind of afraid to try and root again if I do get a fix for this. Also, factory reset is going to be my last option ;_;.
Samsung Galaxy S III SGH-T999 running Android version 4.1.2
Thanks!
If you can, back up your internal sdcard data. It's very likely you may have to do a factory reset which can erase it.
(BTW, when you get it going again, consider using the free unlock method in the General section. Once you update you can't do it free anymore)
OK, so first, only use what info you find in the T999 forums. Everything you need is here and it's hard to help fix things caused by info gained elsewhere.
Do you have a custom recovery installed? (Twrp or cwm) if so boot recovery and factory reset. This will wipe all apps and data (except internal sd...at least it shouldnt). With luck, this is all you need to do. Reboot and hopefully it'll be working so you can reinstall your stuff. If you have stock recovery, still do this, but it WILL wipe ALL user data).
If that doesn't work, the easiest and most reliable next step is to flash your current firmware build via Odin, and factory reset from settings or stock recovery. (wipes all data).
Then you can unlock and update if you so choose. You can find your firmware and instructions in my firmware thread stickied in the development section. (You'll probably want to use the root66 versions)
If you have any questions feel free to ask. Better safe than sorry. But keep in mind just about everything you could possibly need or want to know has been covered, so don't forget to search for your answers first.
If you still want root after all that, we have several extremely easy options.
Good luck!
