[Q] stock rom trouble? - HTC Wildfire S

i want a stock rom to develop using kitchen but i tried extracting it from the ruu and that didnt work could someone help link or upload somewhere if you have it ?

You want a rom.zip file from RUU executable?
Run RUU in windows, and wait until creator show up. Dont turn off it, just move from visible area and try to find rom.zip file into Temp folder on your system drive (C), and you will find it.
Then copy in safe place na rename to proper name visible through recovery, and that all.

Creating a ROM-backup ?

Hi,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Pro, and am not quite satisfied with the ROM they installed.
I want to try some different ROMs, like the O2 Exec, but I want to be able to go back to the original.
How can I create a back-up of the ROM, Extended ROM, and Radio ROM that I can put back at a later date ?
I've already seen grab_it by buzz, but that only makes a .bin file and I have no idea how to put that back if I ever want to revert to this state :/
Thank you,
TB
Please use the SEARCH button as this has been discussed already.
ANyway to help you do the following:
1. Download the latest T-Mobile ROM (the exe file) from the XDA Dev FTP site. Then extract this to a folder, say EXPERIMENT
2. Put the BIN file there
3. Go to Buzzdev.net nad follow the procedure to ENCODE/DECODE ROM. This will change the original nk.nbf (the OS) with your BIN file. using HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.exe
4. Then just put the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file into this directory also.
Now you have your OS backed up ready to install to a device in the EXPERIMENT directory. Now just make sure the T-Mobile ROM you downloaded has the same radio ROM. If not, download a verison with same radio rom and replace the radio_.nbf file with the downloaded version.
Backing up the ExtendedROm has to be done manually. Just transfer all contents to a alternate directory in the PC then just put it back to replace what's already there.
Hope this helps
What do you do with the dump.bin file though?
Rename it to nk.nbf
Ha - that didn't work.
Did you follow the ENCODE/DECODE procedure in BUZZ's site?

Jorgee,
What you mean with:
"Backing up the ExtendedROm has to be done manually. Just transfer all contents to a alternate directory in the PC then just put it back to replace what's already there"
- What is the PPC folder where I find the content of ExtendedROM?
- How I can trasfer to PC, with ActiveSync? Sometimes I received error messages like "unable to convert file format" or something like that...
- How I can transfer back, is not the ExtendedRom locked?
Let me know...
Luca
To view the Extended ROM, just install TOTAL COMMANDER for PPC
Then in the address bar, put : "\\EXTENDED_ROM" (without the quotes)
Then you will see the contents of extended ROM.
If you want, you can copy the contents of the Extended to your SD card instead so you don't have to connect to your PC.
To unlock your extended ROM (to change/delete/edit the stuff there) you need a certain file which is in the FTP under Uploads/Universal/Tools or something to that effect.

Hello Jorgee,
I've tried to install Total Commander on my v1640 but when I access \\EXTENDED_ROM nothing is shown...
What's missing?
Thanks

Jorge I found the mistake, \EXTENDED_ROM is with only one back slash and not with two.
Thank you very much for your help...

Modify RUU?

Is it possible to modify the file that the RUU writes to the device. I've noticed that when the RUU is installing, it copies a "RUU_signed.nbh" file to somewhere. Im guessing that it then extracts/writes RUU_signed.nbh to the device.
SO would it be possible to replace the RUU_signed.nbh with one that you get frm some custom ROM?
bump. Oh and by the way, if it helps, I'm have a Wing/Atlas/Herald.
I think the idea here is to figure out where the RUU_Signed.nbh file is stored before being written to the device.
Any help?
use winrar with the exe upgrade file...
oh wow. never thought of that. gonna try. hopefully this opens up some sorta new frontier in rom flashing. probably not, but the possibility to be able to flash via modded ruu sounds cool. feasability?
sorry for the double post, but i've now managed to disassemble the RUU via 7-zip and have inserted a custom rom in place of the normal RUU_signed.nbh file. Heres the funny part. How how do a i reassemble it. Maybe it's possible to just RUU without reassembling, but it makes everything easier to manage

[Q] E: Cant find update script

Every time i try to flash a rom i get a error that says
E:Cant find update script
Using Amon Ra recovery. Wiped everything and partitioned sd card.
Thanks for any help
Sounds like the update package is not signed with valid keys. Is your phone rooted ?

check your zip. If you zip a file two folders deep it will give the same error. open your zip and see if you see your files or another folder.
yeah when i unzip it, the first folder i see is the name of the rom "fresh" then when i open it, I see; boot image file, data folder, META-INF folder, sdcard folder, and system folder.
Well update script is in META-INF\com\google\android but if your zip file is not signed then it can't be flasshed that is why you get upgrade script not found.
How do i do that????? And walk me through what "signed" means
And im using a macbook pro if that helps any
Thanks a ton
Well did unziped the zip folder ? Did you make any changes to the installation zip ?
Now what rom are you running. So you have root ? When you use connectbot and type su deo you see #? It could be that your phone is not ruter and does not have proper recovery installed since we can't sign rom with the same keys that developers at sprint use we have to root the phone and allow it to accept custom rom.
all i did was download the fresh rom from the forum onto my computer, compressed it (zipped it) then rebooted my phone into recovery, wiped everything i needed to, enabled the usb, moved the zip over to the phone, disabled the usb and then went to flash zip, found the zipped fresh rom and tried to flash it.
Im running my stock rom that came with the phone.
If you running this on mac the os x will unzip ypur file and put the download file in trash so use zip file from trash. Now You need to use simple root to root and install proper recovery on your phone then you will be able to install custom rom .
Awesome! found the zip file in the trash like you said, transfered that over and it worked! thank you thank you thank you!

noob ?

I just got a new app from work in a .exe format.
can i put in a zip and flash it or do i have to change it to a apk file
I tried to put the exe file on my sd card and use astro to install it put it won't
I also tried to find a app to change exe to an apk with no luck
Thanks for any help!!!
.exe are applications designed to run on windows. Renaming the file wont change anything. It has to be an app written in Android code or it wont work. DO NOT flash unknown/unsigned files in recovery (I dont think it will let you) but if you manage to it can brick your phone.
DO NOT flash unknown/unsigned files in recovery
Thank you god for that answer!!!!!!!

need help to build update zip for phone

As the topic states i was wondering if anyone here could create an update zip that will replace a specific file. i have a copy of the original file that needs to overwrite my existing one. My phone is the one touch fierce from metro pcs. my problem is that the phone will boot all the way to the metropcs screen but no further. i modded the file using root explorer. the name and location of the file is "ProjectConfig.mk" located in ----system/data/misc/ProjectConfig.mk-------
i edited some stuff in it so i know that's my problem because i messed with nothing else.
i have tried to attempt this myself but do not have the necessary skills to perform what i am asking at this time.
the reason i am asking for an update zip is because i can get the phone into recovery and am able to apply updates via adb sideload or browse from sd card.
i have attached a zip with the original file in it.
I would be very gratefull if someone could help me with this. thanks again
