Screen Off Question - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm not sure if its me or that's how the phone is but..
When you hit the power button for screen off, does it turn off instantly? Mine dims first then shuts off, makes it seem laggy. Turning it on is fine. I just got this bad boy a few hours ago so still learning and adapting!

Gotcha, thanks! I'm assuming there is no way to disable that, right?

check if phone is in standby without switching it on by accident

ok, has anyone else noticed this problem,
sometimes i switch my phone off to save battery and it will switch itself on in my pocket so i need to check every now and then to see if it is really off, however, the only way to switch the screen on is with the power button so if my phone was really off then i have to let it start up and switch it off all over again.
i'm going to have a look for a way to remap the buttons without root as i cant get unrevoked to work and i cant be bothered to go about it the long way
hmm im not sure if this is the same issue, but sometimes the keys on my desire are on with the screen being turned off, im not sure if it happens on its own or what, not a big deal really

I noticed this, it is very annoying!
What ROM are you using? I use DeFrost 2.3 and you can bring the phone out of standby by pushing the trackball button. A second push unlocks the phone.
I dont understand this. If the phone is on, a single short press of the power button will light the screen. If it's off, it needs a long press to turn it back on - therefore it's pretty easy to tell the difference

Mine is unmodified and i'm not planning on changing that until HTC stops issuing updates. Sounds like a good feature though, bit of an oversight on the phone that.

Yes, any sort of press turns the phone on.

Careful, it may burn the LED out if you keep it constantly on.
rofl. this burn stuff is constantly floating aroung and is still crap.
why do you think, they enable the led while charging? because it is likely to burn?
who ever brought that up .......

I agree, I think the only LED to be worried about having on for long periods of time is the SUPER BRIGHT Camera Flash LED. It's obviously a different LED than the charging/notification ones, and snudel makes sense when he says that it's enabled while charging.
snudel, do you have a link for this blue LED app? I don't even think I've ever seen the blue LED on my Desire glow, but it would be neat to have it lit when the phone is "awake".
Cheers!
you can download a blue led app here:

but don't know if this is the one that snudel uses (i think not)

While your screen is off. There is a process running in the background. It could be anything.
It's when you get alike, a call or text, and your screen comes on, and stays on, even if you have screen-on time set to go off after x amount of minutes
oh yea i def have this sometimes.

I thought it was the issue where the phone doesn't like to wake from a lock state. I know when i was running CM7.0 rc1 and the screen would lock and turn off, when I hit the power key, the screen wouldn't come back on. I usually had to press the power button then tap the screen to get it to turn on. Sometimes i had to just fight with the power button a few times to get anything to show. It was quite annoying. Might have been a kernal issue, not really sure as I updated to CM7.1 and a new kernal all at once.

Hey guys
my screen just went dim all of a sudden very hard to see i turned up to full brightness and its still very dim with slight flickering. I dont know what happened now. this is the second time its done this. The first time i simulated a battery pull by holding power 10+ seconds and it worked, now it wont do the simulated battery pull it just powers off and wont turn on again. my battery is fully charged and its boots up but the screen is still very dim.
Im rooted with Imperium Agentv 2 installed nothing else. Any ideas?

Hopefully, the backlight isn't bad. I would suggest reflashing the rom, or LGNPST to stock to see if it fixes it.

Phone screen doesn't turn on, phone does vibrate during boot

Hello,
My sgh-t989 has just started behaving rather oddly. The screen on the phone does not ever turn on. Not during boot at any point, not after boot, never. It does boot up, the softkey lights respond to the power button being hit, but the screen does not turn on. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if it is just me. If anyone has any tips, i'm all ears.
Thanks much.

[Q] Screen wont turn on after some time

Well i cant really find a good title for my problem.
Usually at night when my phone idle for a few hours its just "falls a sleep" or something
I can see the charging led or a green led if I have a message but no matter how much ill press the wake up button
the screen wont turn on, only if ill hold it for like 10-20 sec the phone will restart.
any idea how i can fix that ?
Are you on Stock Rom/Kernel? Rooted? If you want help you'll have to be a little more specific about your case, it sounds like your phone won't come back from deep sleep, AFAIK it could be kernel related, I've had this happen to me but not definitely like your case, usually a couple of presses of the power button revive it to the lock screen as it should.
