Do we have a stock tarball yet or are we going to have to wait for the first update? Sorry if this has been answered, typical xda search fail so I couldn't find anything. I am assuming that means a no but had to ask.
Nothing yet, that's why I'm holding off on rooting.

Yeah me too. I want a stock tar. Can wait.
The Evo3D Killer!!!
Take it from a guy who flashes everything on my Epic... I haven't had any issues but I would advise those who are stock to wait a bit.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah that's the plan. I know a good amount about flashing but I prefer a fallback. I can write basic scripts for cwm but only basic stuff. I had an epic so am used to the process.
Yeah I had to take my first phone back so I couldn't root but after looking at all the problems I'm staying stock till we get a tar for Odin. I'll play with my original epic for a while longer

Don't use the put included with this. I did not realize that was left in there. I will update with the correct pit once I get to my computer.
Probably a good idea posting this for those that don't have it.

Thanks! Haven't touched Odin in a while, I'm a few updates back. Good to see it'll work on our new phones... now... how come nobody has root yet?
Comming from a Evo 4g...was wondering...I looked at this and it says to hit the 1 key...I am guessing we do not need to do this for the E4T ? And I guess Odin is what we use to flash things to the phone ?
When I did the Evo, I had to do the old school root. Unrevoked and all that was not around lol..
What is Odin?
Just found out I get the phone for free with cyanogen working for Samsung will the phone be worth it or should I stick with my Evo 3d and Droid x? Plus never used Odin before really just helped people root their phones with it along time ago it just unlocks the phone right?

Right those instructions are carried over from the Epic. I will update them once I get the E4GT.

I think I read already. There were screenshots already posted. I should also have this Friday morning if Sprint doesn't open it up Thursday night or Best Buy even.
Correction. This was posted in E4GT General.
You get to *odin mode* by holding down volumne + and - keys at the same time along with the power key, release power key when device turns on while continuing to hold + and - keys untill the droid guy screen comes on, then release.
Glad to see you over here by the way Crawrj. I take it your upgrading as well. Look forward to your first plus kernel for this thing.

yeah like deano said, you can flash ANYTHING. once AdamOutler gets started on development for our device, we will be able to flash custom bootloaders like the Captivate can, for those who dont know, the Captivate was recently able to flash the Nexus S bootloader which means it is basically a Nexus S in disguise lol. Odin will also let us falsh stock and custom ROMs and kerenls as well as Modems (radios) plus recoveries such as CWM.
Also if anything screws up its ur way outta trouble...things such as "omg i'm bricked" and "help i'm stuck on the boot logo" won't be seen as much in the Q and A section as much... get to know Odin referring to people coming from EVO or any other phone Odin is ur new bff

Love Odin
Sounds cool. Ahh starting the learning all over again lol.
Odin is great. It was almost impossible to brick the Epic with it. If you get any kind of phone life, you can almost always get it back to stock and start again. Also, 30 seconds to flash a different modem. We had some great stock GB leaks with Busybox,Superuser included (thanks Crawrj.) Great tool.

can some one post a good repository or online dummy guide for those who have no clue what Odin is even still after reading these posts? I consider my self tech savy, but only getting introduce to "root" on the evo, i will be the first to admit i have a lot to learn.

Its really not that involved. All you do is put a tar file in "phone" and a pit file in "Pit" and select run and let it do its thing. Modems get flashed in "PDA" section and that's basically it. There is more detail but that's a quick rundown. I am not the most tech saavy myself but you catch on quick. I have used it 50+ times. I will try to run down a more thorough description.

Hello,
I got some great help here when someone pointed out how I could basically have the stock rom but rooted (forgive me if I have my terms out of whack).
The OTA updated me to 2.3.6 EK02 which was great since I didn't have to flash it back to get the update. I would however look my phone rooted again so I can tether in case I'm at the airport or my internet is down.
I'm guessing it will take a while before a root stock for the new update is out but thought I'd ask.
Thanks
Uh....yea Calkulin has one. Its been there for a while.
Um..there's a few. Look in the development section.

You could always re-root, it's somewhat painless.
Haha do people even look before they post stuff... ahhh the questions sometimes...lol
Bought an Epic today from an individual and esn was good, but went to activate and they did a hard reset and this put it back to stock. I received an ota and when battery had enough charge I hit update. About halfway through after it rebooted to update, it stopped and went to a white triangle with orange exclamation. I searched but on the mmobile app on xda it is less than accurate. So sorry if his has been answered.
Btw, guy said it hadn't been rooted before...so I don't know.

maybe he lied?!... anyways.. try to boot into download mode by holding the UP botton on the side and the power button at the same time.. keep holding....keep holding.... ut should take you into dowbload mode.... once its there.. let go... puth the UP button one more time... ( just a click this time without the power button ) and it should say "downloading ".... if you can get this far..( wich you should)... then your in the clear.... next download a stock .TAR file and ODIN..( to your pc ) .....
load Odin.....once its up and running, connect your data cable and your oding program should show thays its connected.. now under PDA open the .tar file....click the box next to PDA. and then slick START........

EL29 is the latest (OTA) build, read about installing here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
I also recommend flashing the modem with it (not required) but you may see an improvement in signal strength, speed, battery life, etc... after flashed

If you want to see why the OTA was failing (ie what files were modified or removed), you can use Option E in the Auto Root sticky and choose the appropriate OTA compliance check, EG30 or EK02.

You don't need ODIN to run the OTA compliance check. You don't even need a computer. You just need to download the scripts to your phone and run them.
They used Odin at the store to push the EL29 update...buuut...now I want to root lol. Have to wait until I get my computer back.

It is one of them but the top 3 IMO are Strongsteves Odexed blue, Phantom Hackers Blazer rom and Calkulins. They are all great but those 3 i mentioned I found to be just flawless and run the best on my device.
Hey guys, I am in desperate need of some help. I had to have my SG2 replaced because of a bad headphone jack and need to send the old phone in, as always I waited till the last day to try and get the phone back to stock and am running into problems. I have tried to download every ODIN file there is but it seems that none of the file work, I have been on here as well as searching u have google and cant get a "stock" rom that will work. If you have a stock rom that I can ODIN my phone back to stock I would appreciate it if you would send it to me. Getting really pissed at all the dead links and bs files people have posted, I just need to GO BACK TO STOCK..............Thanks for any help you can offer
It doesn't matter as they won't check. They'll send it in to get refurbished and that will wipe it. Trust me on my third sgs2, and the ones I sent in had a custom ROM on them. Never heard anything about it.
Not to sound like and ass but this is not the forum for these requests, general is usually the place.

You need to be stock to use kies, that's his whole issue, he needs to go back to stock, not upgrade from GB to ICS.

Hey guys posting this up for a friend.
He sent me a message the other day after I told him about the voice app that is similar to Siri on the Iphone. He said he wanted that app and asked if I could install it for him, forgetting his phone was stock I said I would. Here is the thing, he wants to keep the phone like it is so changing rom's etc is out of the question.
Here is my current situation:
I rooted the phone and SuperUser is on there and shows to be working correctly. So that's a positive!
I downloaded the the autorun thing(sorry can't think of the name right now) where you could add ClockWorkRecovery to it. It's FF18 so I done the option D on the program and it ran and completed and the phone reset like it should but it won't go into CWR by doing the PWR+VolUp+VolDown that I'm used to.
Phone is running the ICS OTA update(FF18)
He doesn't have Root Explorer or any pay for app to allow me to delete any system apps or add any by copy and pasting. I have a ZIP file I found that would allow me to add the app through CWR but I'm not sure what I done wrong or if I don't know the correct way to get into CWR on that phone. I also read online that the factory Kernel won't allow the phone to go into CWR. I hate that I'm posting a thread that is common knowledge but I don't own the phone. Thanks in advance!!
Holding down the Pwr+Vol up puts you into Cwm....Pwr+Vol dwn puts you into download mode/odin

Post above mine will get you where you need to be dude, I'm assuming you're trying to flash the Google now apk? Or svoice? I cannot recommend Google now over svoice highly enough... svoice is not so good, a lot like siri in that way come to think of it...

Awesome guys, thanks for the quick replies!!!
It was S Voice that he was wanting, does Google Now do the same thing? Any info/links? Much appreciated guys!!
Google now does the same thing and more, all much better than svoice and much much better than siri... overview found here... http://www.google.com/landing/now/
Apk here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224

The svoice app is Samsung's Siri equivalent. Its ok, but not really anything more than a novelty. Google now is part of jelly bean (which i'm kinda surprised you don't have on your nexus, but I digress) and is a much more polished Siri competitor, that is, in many ways and in my opinion better than siri.

I don't think it'll work on his phone since he's on the stock ROM and it says it must be a Deodexed rom. I think he'll be happy with SVoice, thanks again for your help!

He posted he already got the svoice zip flashed, regardless of the safety of the recovery he shouldn't have had to worry about it for what he was trying to do... he wasn't wiping any partitions to flash a rom or anything...

The PWR+VolUp worked and I flashed the SVoice.zip but it didn't install the app on the phone. If you try to install it through ES File Explorer it says "Application Cannot Be Installed". That phone is kicking my ass for whatever reason, I'm sure it's because of the stock ROM. My Fascinate and Nexus never did fight me that way, but they were never on stock ROM very long.
What's the best way to install this app on a stock ROM? Thank you all for the help so far.

The only unsafe thing in the recovery is a factory reset. Flashing a zip is not gonna brick you unless it's a seriously corrupt file.
Anyone have any info to add? Why won't this app flash through the zip in CWR?
-Edit-
Finally got it, thanks for your help guys!!!
