Contact Swipe - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

How did I not know that if you swipe on a contact either left or right, you can text or call them?
EpTouch 4G

Did you have the OG epic? If not probably many don't know.
Dicho por el Epic Touch de latinmaxima

This is a Samsung thing, a Touchwiz feature. It was like that on all the original Galaxy S devices, I believe.

im a little but hurt that nobody looked at this , plus when you goto this link there are several others alongside it. im excited , even though it doesnt have a keyboard i think i might be able to live with out it.
Ok I looked 10 times because I want one so bad, but still won't get one, thanks
I looked, very cool thanks
Looked at it, but still can't decide to wait for it or go with the Motorola Photon. I have the Epic now. Samsung has left a bad taste in my mouth with upgrades, even though when I did get the Froyo upgrade, I never had problems, but I am tired of waiting. Also have the XOOM WiFi and like the dual-core processor, so now I want my phone to be dual-core.

R u that mad at Samsung that u will purchase an inferior device
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I just hope I can get that phone, but maybe have to wait a while since I just bought my Epic 4G few weeks ago..
Not a groupie and not a fanboy of either. I have sen da photon and liked it. Not seen da epic touch. Why u call da photon inferior? Not mad @ samsung, but every 1 I suggested a samsng product not happy now. Want to try different phone before I really decide in November. Thinking to buy a photon off ebay and resell if I don't like it and can compare to ET 4G before committing. Not hating, but need a company that doesn't have tough time getting updates out. I understand and appreciate da care/caution but seems like my epic was put up as "The Phone" but then treated like a stepchild shortly after da EVO got Froyo.

Yeah, it was touted as da "premier" (anchor) fone, then quietly taken out of da limelight w/ da Froyo issues - which I had none. It should've been in da limelight and da priority fone cause it is da better fone. Wat's da issue wit da processor in da photon? Since look's like ima hafta give up my keybrd, the photon works wit my fat fingers, lol. Yes, da ET 4G looks cooler. But I can't get it till November, so y not try da photon now nd get da ET 4g den?

You got 30 days to exchange it. If the 16th is out of the thirty day range you can go to Sprint and get a different phone in the meantime and it will reset your 30 day timeframe. I think.

Thanks for the video, phone looks cool and fast. Unfortunately with how Samsung has managed their support for the Epic 4G (or lack of I should say) I am not (and probably many others) interested in anything from Samsung ever again.
Plus with the iPhone 5 all but confirmed for Sprint, I'm sure many are curious as to what kind of hardware it will be packing. I'd be shocked if it doesn't blow the SGS2 out of the water. Historically speaking when Apple releases a new phone it is the fastest out there for at least 6 months.

How could it, when it is expected to lack:
Access to 4G/LTE, a Replaceable battery and a SD Card slot
No matter how fast it is, without these 3 items, it cant even be considered top tier, IMO

What good is 4G/LTE if it kills your battery and coverage sucks unless you have Verizon and even then it is still a long ways off from great coverage.
A replaceable battery sounds nice if you have a phone that needs a constant change of one because it dies that quickly (like my Epic 4G does). Considering the iPhone can go a full day without needing a charge, it doesn't matter.
SD card slot... For what exactly? the iPhone has a ton of built in memory that is much faster than an sd card is. My phone is constantly *****ing about lack of space because many apps will not allow you to install to the sd card. Video recording fails often because of the sd card.
None of those items really matter with an iPhone.

Every video I want makes me want it more. It just smashes in testing. If I get it, I will be happy just with root and I know it will get a lot more than that. From what I have read and seen the speed is unbelievable and people are getting 5 and a half hours screen on time pretty regularly. Custom ROMs and kernels will only improve things but 3000+ Quadrants running stock...damn! I watched a video of SGS2 vs Evo 3D and it beat it in every test that was run. Now, if the Prime drops within the next few months, it may be worth waiting but I can update my Epic line in March. I am waiting for Whosdaman's review before I commit 100%.

From iphone 4 To Epic 4G Touch

So far I love this phone. I'm just missing one thing the iPhone has that this one doesn't.
And that is RAGE! RAGE the game that is. Is it ever coming to the android????
And meantime is there something even close to it for android? I like the simplicity of aim shoot and get out the way from stones....
I don't like nova 2 its hard to control for me. Any suggestions of a nice aim n shoot kind if game?
Also, on the back of my sprint sprint phone it says in big letters "galaxy S II" so why on earth are we calling this phone EPIC 4G TOUCH? should be SPRINT GS2, PIRIOD!
Thanks.
Call it what you want homie, pple know what you mean. Call it all that and a bag of tricks and I know what you're talkin about.
The reason it is called galaxy s 2 is because samsung wants name recognition across all of the carriers. They have forced them all to place that name before whatever name they want to give it.
As far as your game have you tried to google rage for android.
Sent from my Epic on Midnight or my Galaxy Tab rooted (feels naked without a ROM)
Google rage comic maker? Are you serious??? Do you actually know which game I'm talking about? I doubt it but thanks for at least replying.
Carmack has expressed interest in Android and more than hinted at working on it, with comments about being how he's going to regret using iPhone-centric tags in the RAGE code when he ports to Android. That said, he's also since stated that the wide range of available hardware for Android concerns him and may prevent him from considering it too seriously. So we're in a waiting game on RAGE.

Anyone else hate the Epic 4G touch name?

For some reason I hate the Epic name attached to it. I know its Sprints way of putting there label on it but it sucks IMO. Before it came out and I would go to the Shack or Bestbuy to ask if they would have it they would say either what?..or yes its right here and lead me to the Epic 4G. Excuse me if this has been posted before or your offended...I have been at a birthday party and I have Vodka in me...SGII!!!

I was so excited about the hardware and how much Samsung has changed (especially the circumstances of the development of this hardware/software versus the original) that I didn't even think about it...
...but when someone asks me what my new phone is I just flip the back to them and tell them "Galaxy s2", not like saying "Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S-II Epic Touch 4G" would mean any more to them.

Agreed. Granted this phone is actually rather epic in nature. The last Epic didn't seem so, well epic... This one is epic out of the box and we've got an exciting development community already that I'm sure will be epic, for various reasons.
That said, I've got my dongle jig on the way, priority shipping....which costs nearly 4 times more than the jig, lol...

I hate the name as well.. not as much as hated within... so it was an improvement. This phone is nothing like the epic. Touch screen phone with sg1 specs was epic compared to the other carriers.
This new epic is lacking that. I think they will use the epic like Verizon uses droid.

Well with Verizon they had to pay Lucas to use that name, so I'd milk it for every penny too if I were Verizon. Also I understand the concept of brand recognition by keeping "Epic", but still Epic 4g Touch is a horrible name.
I either call mine Galaxy S2 (since as others have pointed out its freaking emblazened on the back), or "Enterprise D" as its a huge Galaxy-class that looks surprising thin from the side.
What the hell is wrong with people, who cares. This is the only phone that has like twenty thousand names, you can literally call it so many things and pple know what you're talking about. You can use it's absolutely full name and called it, Sprint's Samsung Epic 4g Touch, call it the Galaxy S II, call it the ET4G, call it the hottest phone in the motherfuckin world right now abbriviated to hpmfwrn. I call it GS II or ET4G. What is important tho is the only case in the world where the Exynos processor meets a 4.52 inch screen. The only instance in the world where that happens. The ET4G is pure perfection. Call it pure perfection if you want.
I've read all these posts, and I must say that the obvious answer is calling it this:

Samsung Offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade for GALAXY devices

Original Source: http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=8894
Samsung Offers Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade for GALAXY devices
first quarter 2012.
Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2012, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.
The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.
For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung GALAXY Nexus, the first Ice Cream Sandwich powered smartphone, were first unveiled at a Google/Samsung joint news conference in Hong Kong on October 19th.
Ice Cream Sandwich brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full Web browsing experience. Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People App which lets users browse pictures, messages and social network updates from friends, family and co-workers.
Ice Cream Sandwich also introduces innovations such as Face Unlock, which uses facial recognition to unlock the smartphone. Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows users to quickly share Web pages, apps and YouTube™ videos with friends by simply tapping two phones back-to-back. Users can even use fun effects while shooting video or video chatting with Google Talk™.
* Google, Nexus, Android, Android Market, YouTube, Google Talk, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Earth, and Google Calendar are trademarks of Google, Inc.
Doesn't mean much since carriers ultimately decide when to push it out but at least samsung has made the announcement.

speaking as an original epic 4g owner, this doesn't make me feel any more confident that our phones will get an ICS upgrade.
unless you followed the whole gingerbread debacle w/the epic 4g, it's really hard to explain how little sprint and/or samsung cares about giving us an android upgrade. They seriously just do not care.
I've learned that the Sprint Epic 4g is different from the intl galaxy phones. Period. It might as well not even be called a "galaxy" anything.
It wont surprise me at all to see ICS available on the intl Galaxy S2 phones a year or so before it comes to the Sprint Epic 4g Touch. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we never get the upgrade. seriously... I know that sounds crazy but if you look to the original Epic 4g for precedent, announcements that a "Galaxy S2" phone will get ICS means nothing for the Sprint Epic 4g Touch.
When I bought the epic 4g touch, i asked myself "would i be happy with this phone if this was the only version of android i'll ever get?" and decided yes, so i bought it. That should really be the standard for deciding whether to buy a phone from samsung.
I'll be happily surprised if i'm wrong though (and hope I am...)
That doesn't apply to us. From history with Samsung and sprint, the Samsung phones on Sprint just don't get updated. Look at the moment and the epic.

I know! ha... i know i play with my phone too much already and this is a sad statement but it was kinda of a mini emotional rollercoaster. please dont laugh.
I am staying confident that we will see an update for our phones in a timely fashion. People need to stop talking about the Epic 4G already, it is getting old.
If you have any friends on Verizon who bought the HTC Thunderbolt, it was released with Froyo and they just recently got GB. Should that mean that HTC doesn't update their phones either?
The Epic 4G touch is in a league of it's own and it is a flagship phone and Samsung knows they are being looked under a microscope right now as far as updates are concerned.
The Epic 4G was never what the Epic 4G touch is and should not even be looked at in the same manner...
I also don't think it will be Sprint who holds up the update and if it is, we shouldn't see the EVO 3D getting updated either. If the 3D gets it's update it will surely not be Sprints fault if the E4GT doesn't get it...
The only thing that makes me skeptical with the announcement is would they have listed the Epic 4G touch separate from the SGS2 like they did with the LTE version, or do you think they are grouping our phone in there with it?

it sounds like you're looking forward to ICS on the epic 4g touch- and I am too. My comment wasn't so much saying "samsung sucks, you ain't ever gonna get ICS"- I was just trying to communicate to the OP that there really is no relationship between announcements that "ICS is going to the Galaxy S2" and whether ICS will come to our phone.
I agree that the Epic 4g is an old phone NOW but it wasn't at all old when Gingerbread came out. I think it was out for like, five months? around there, when gingerbread came up. Gingerbread was out for over a year before it came to the Epic 4g. I disagree with you that the Epic 4g Touch plays a bigger role in the Spring phone lineup now, as compared to the Epic 4g when it first came out. Seriously, when the Epic 4g came it, it was Sprints flagship phone. It was in all the commercials, it was the mac daddy... If anything, I would argue they play the exact same role in Sprint's lineup now. If anything, the Epic 4g Touch plays less of a prominent role b/c Sprint go the iPhone a few weeks after the Epic 4g Touch came out.
I also like your points regarding HTC- but seriously, HTC does a MUCH better job of upgrading their phones than Samsung. I think I saw some study somewhere but I cant find it now so I'll drop it but- I only wished Samsung did just as good of a job updating their phones as HTC does.
anyways- my last point on this topic. I would really like to see ICS on our phones but I do not look to "galaxy s2" update announcements and think "oh, that includes my phone"
The OG epic wasn't the commercial success the Galaxy S line is. Samsung would be stupid to not capitalize on the momentum they are achieving in the mobile space with both Android and WM7. If they really wanted to show how committed they were to Android and the Galaxy line, they would make the ROM's available even if Sprint is going to do there thing.
I think were gonna get a kanged version of cm9 this week actually in reference to he who shall not be mentioned twitter.
Sorry if this has been mentioned or a obvious question, but ICS update has NFC? I thought that was something built into the phone and not with just a update. I know there are NFC SD cards you can buy and something with the cover of the slot can't be metal or something but I didn't think this was possible.

What is ironic is the official stock ROM still random reboots if I'm not mistaken, just not as often as the leaks. And the GPS is completely screwed.
Both problems that were fixed within hours by the incredible devs on the OG Epic. Seriously, I don't know how people use the phone without running custom ROMs. (I often talk customers out of buying the epic, despite having owned one myself and being happy with it, because the stock software is BS).
I tend to think Samsung is going to get these builds out as soon as possible.
Hell there has already been one leak even though it sucks.
Lately sprint has been pretty quick to push out updates once they get their hands on it.
i think the diffrence between the og epic and gingerbread and ics is there was no press release. they seem serious about making this update happen. samsung and sprint could save alot of head aches and let the code get released here. perfected and then give it back to send to peoples device.
hess really needs to get his ear to the street on this stuff.

I mentioned something similar in another thread. The SGS2 is getting much more publicity than OG Epic did. It would be a PR disaster if they didn't update to ICS. They would lose a lot of potential GS3 customers

Well, yes there is a big difference, one being no disgusting physical keyboard. Though if you need a features list of the phone, google can help you there. Though if on touch wiz, I personally like the smart stay feature, and the overall size and feel of the phone.

Just a FYI there is no keyboard on the touch hence the name touch. The OG is just a Epic 4G which I just came from.

Meh, now I'm confused, because I have a different device in mind. Glad they're going away from 'that' name set, because its just garbage.
Duh, the GSII...he should have just said that. But yea..
