Switching back to EC05 for the gps and I was wondering if there would be a difference between switching back to EC05 modem or just keeping EH17.
I don't know about the difference but I read numerous threads about people having issues downgrading back to ec05, I would just skim through a few and make sure you don't make any mistakes they did man

I was running RandomKing's Hawk v2 for a few weeks. I just flashed midNight 5.3 EC05 over it (no odin) and kept EH17 and its been perfect for me. With EH17 I get much better reception.
I like EH17 the best so far!
Having no luck converting back to EC05 anyway. Odin'd to EC05 stock. Boot into recovery (the orange one), wipe data, cache, dalvik 3X, then flash SRF1.2 + kernel. Bootlooped every which way I've tried it. Had to use my EH17 backup to get the phone working. Bleh.

Weird so all that and SRF wouldn't work. But ERA's EC05 ROM did work, and I didn't even Odin I just wiped data from EH17. Very bizarre.

I went back to sfr from EH06 (and other gb leaks), and all I ever did was reflash the sfr zip right over my gb. Only problem I had was restoring data afterwards- my screen would lock onto landscape if I restored data from a backup, so I had to rebuild my device from scratch.
And, no, I would never consider going back to sfr from any leak a 'downgrade'. I consider the leaks to be downgrades.

I updated my stock-rooted ec05 to eh17 recently just to try out gingerbread, but it kept rebooting on me, so I tried last night to go back to ec05. I had downloaded the latest odin, I already had drivers installed, I even had another ec05 zip file with cwm 3.1.0.1 built in, and I had dg27.tar as an old standby. After many, many, many, many, many attempts, I finally managed to get the right combination of pit, tar, cable and usb port to get the old dg27 installed. It seemed to work ok, but seemed a bit slow. I did an upgrade to the latest ec05 using the built-in update tools. It was a 99mb download/update and it went fine. Then I re-rooted it with cwm 3.02.5 and updated to 3.1.0.1, but the actual phone part is just crap. It boots up ok, but then just FREEZES. It doesn't matter if I have the sd card installed or not, I can barely launch programs, I couldn't even make a phone call...the PHONE app fc'd on me... wtf??? the PHONE app fc'd on me... I can't even use my smartPHONE as a PHONE!!!! And I'm getting completely fed up with how slow it is and how it fc's 98% of the time and takes 10x's longer to do anything even when it does work. Thing is, my internet connection is only 512kb/s downstream...yes, that's only 512KB/s...so I can't just go around downloading .tar files everywhere trying each one until i find one that works. Plus, I knew the official gingerbread release is just around the corner, so I wanted to be back to stock for it. But I can't get this damn thing working to save my life and it's pissing me off to no end...I've wiped the cache and davlik cache so many times, it's not even funny. I don't want to just do a factory reset, because I have 18,000 txt msgs that takes an hour to restore and I have visual voicemail that I use and have tons of those saved and that requires using root access to copy the folder where the data and audio files are stored in the root in order to back it up.... so it's a pain each time I want to start over...
Anyone have any bright ideas? please???
~Mark/Zeoran
I can't think of anything to do but reload. I would back up my sdcard. Wipe everything 3x. Reformat the sdcard. Install Deca's Deodexed EH17 twice in a row without rebooting and see if that works for you. I have been using it with no problems. If you are set on EC05 than Odin EC05 instead. I would not go to DG27 and then up to EC05. Just go straight to EC05.
@crawrj, I'm serious man, GB is shifting the partions around some how, and not getting fixed when going back to froyo.
A lot of EH17 data is not compatible with EC05 that is why you are having so many FCs. A factory data reset is your best bet to get your stability back. Restore only data that you absolutely have to have. I had a buzzing in EG22 today from a EH17 downgrade that I couldn't find so did a reset myself today. But my phone is superfast and smooth again with no errors, so totally worth it. Restore your texts when you go to bed and will be done when you wake.

Not sure what that could be. I went from EF02 back to EC05 without any problems. I went back to Gingerbread on EG22 and have been here since.

Its random when it errors out but when it does, it can be bad to the point of having to Odin. Sometimes flashing a Froyo ROM fresh fixes it but sometimes it doesn't. I can't explain why it doesn't happen every time but I have been flashing 2 to 3 ROMs a day the past week and about 25% of the time, if I don't Odin, it can't be resolved

Yup, something was changed in that EH17. I have to redo my email accounts rather than restore the accounts and data.
I been going back and forth between GB and Froya. everytime i go up and down i use odin. if you want to make sure that your phone goes back to the manufactory settings then you need to have (Phone EFS Clear) checked. that will bring back everything to the first day you bought your phone then you can start again with whatever you want.
as far as backup up the files, first root your phone and go to 4shared.com and download (my backup pro .apk) this will allow you to backup and restore everything you have at one shot.
i hope any of that help
If you wipe everything 3x, reflash a ROM and reboot, it will usually (but not always) eliminate the problem. Then wipe everything 3x and restore a nandroid. You should be good. If it doesn't work after a clean ROM install then Odin is necessary

I ran into a similar issue, went from EH06 back to my daily driver EC05 that I had a nandroid of. wound up having to wipe everything, do the full EC05 rom install, kernel flash, and then run the restore to get it to boot. Not sure what the deal there was, but still got it working.
I recently jumped back to EC05, I just wiped 3x, flashed my ROM and then restored my APKs (never the data) brought back my call log, sms, mms, alarms and dictionary and have had no issues.
I tried, Bamboozle (EF02), Go Green (EG22), Osprey (EG22), Hawk v1 and 2 (EG22) and Vendetta (EH17)
I got tired of the rebooting in the leaks, I like being back to like 3-4 days on my ext battery with midNight 5.3
10/10 sat in GPS with 2.6m acc (using EH17 modem too)
Is Midnight EXT 4 based? I'm still on Stock EC05 RFS, but wondering if flashing the EH17 modem would be better...not all that impressed with the EC05 modem.

For me the EH17 modem has been the best I have used... but as with everything YMMV!!
I do agree that the EH17 modem is good, but the GB ROM that comes with it is broken. I got a lot of FC all over the place out of nowhere with the ROM. Since then, I've changed the ROM but kept the Modem and things are running much smoother.
GB leaks have many issues still and I think its still wrong to make them the everyday driver, in addition to that, we are not getting much benefit on having GB right now, many apps that were GB only are running perfectly fine on Froyo... My suggestion is, test the leaks if your feeling adventurous but expect issues.
This is driving me nuts. This last week my phone started rebooting at the most random times. Sometimes in the middle of stuff and other times just sitting on the counter or on the charger. I was running a Classic Sense Rom, but wiped all and reinstalled several - all having the same problem. I am currently using the Derp 3d Rom v1.2 RC2, Kernal 2.6.35.10-g4e39384 (nitrous download) baseband ver 2.15.00.11.19
Does this tell anyone anything? It was rebooting without any additional apks reinstalled.
Thanks for any help or ideas..
I would suggest trying another kernel. The kernel may be undervolted and not playing nice, or the kernel just doesn't like your phone; it happens.
Just curious, which recovery are you using?

Using clockwork recovery..
I'll try another Kernal. The kernal I just flashed was to try another one as the phone had been working perfectly fine and then just started acting up without any new Rom / Kernal etc... It does it with / without the SD card - seen people attributing this to SD.
Any suggestion on a kernal??
Stop using clockwork now
Follow the link below and after following the instructions you will a great aosp rom with a better recovery. If reboots continue its very easy to fix the undervolting.
If you prefer sense, you can still gram amonra recovery from the link below. Continue to reflash your from and kernel. If rebooting occurs download an undervolting app or get vipermod and you can raise the voltages until rebooting stops.

Go into advanced settings and try lowering the Max speed. Keep mind at 245.
If not then there's voltage problems. Download incredicontrol and see if raising tthe voltages helps.
If not, take the battery out and keep it out for 24 hours.
Might work.
Edit. Can you explain your problem in further detail. Your phone boots up and then just starts rebooting? Reboots every few minutes? Or does it not even boot in to the rom?

I had the same exact problem that you are describing to everyone here. All I did was Nandroid'd my phone, cleared everything and re-installed the Rom, let it boot up, go into recovery and clear the caches, then I installed the Kernal of my choice and it took care of my random rebooting. Just like everyone, we all have different problems even though it sounds like they are the same most of the time they aren't.

Do exactly what the Dev told you in his post. Install a Safe kernal. DL your file put it on your device. make a backup. do a full wipe(usually calikulin's wipe all is perfect) now flash new rom. flash different kernal(unless it tells you not to) if you desire and then flash your modem if its not there. If you have no idea what you are doing. READ READ READ. Ive done a decent amount of flashing over the past 2 years and i still read tons of posts to include the first couple pages and the last couple pages.
That rom will also have bugs and isn't complete since he is still working on porting everything over from JB.
No you don't. The only think you have to worry about is being on a safe recovery. Agats kernel has a safe recovery included. The kuban kernel also includes a safe recovery as well. (included to prevent confusion) The reason why you need a safe recovery is because in the past people have bricked their phones when wiping data. You could also use the el26/29 kernel packed with clockworkmod recovery v5 to be extra safe. Once you enter recovery mode with a safe recovery or cwm5 all you have to do is wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache and you should be fine to flash cm10. You don't have to flash older versions because the newer ones have everything the older ones have. They also have bug fixes. There is no reason to flash alpha 1, 2, ect unless you just want to see how it works.
Just flash the latest version.

So the full stock restore does not wipe data (pictures and downloaded folders etc etc) but it does format? how about the no data restore what does that do that kill all your data.
I guess what im getting at is which is the better option. Also how has GB27 performed for you thus far?
Should've said. .restore no data or restire data. something like that. I always uses the full wipe and just moved important stuff to sd card. Want to start from scratch qith no chance for any lingering pieces
jellyverse soaked E4GT
Restore wipes all data except your sd card, whether it's rooted or not.
Nodata keeps all your data intact, rooted or not.
Use restore if coming from ics, gingerbread or any custom rom.
Use nodata if already running jelly bean.
Ics, gb, assorted other builds CM and such data can make a mess of your phone if installing jelly bean.
Has to do with system partitions.

Some history on my device:
ATT SGH-i317
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I317UCALJ2
Running CleanROM ACE 4.8.0
This morning when I woke up, my phone was frozen. No response at all, so I pulled the battery and rebooted it. When the device came back up, all my settings were gone, apps were failing left and right and it was almost unusable. So, I figured I'd try to flash Scott's newest ROM (previously running CleanROM 4.2.5) to see if that cleaned things up.
I was unable to wipe the caches correctly, TWRP tells me that it cannot mount /data and the davlik cache wipe fails. Doing a factory reset doesn't see to do anything either.
So, not wanting to make things worse, I'm turning to you fine folks for some guidance. What is the proper plan of attack here to get whole again?
Ultimately, I'd like to run CleanROM 4.8, be rooted, etc.
Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

Ok, that is a solid suggestion. I am running twrp v2.3.1.1
I'll try upgrading that to see if the cache issues go away. Further, at this point I do have backups, but the ROMs creator suggests not using them. So I'm not sure if I will or not.

Running CleanROM. He always states to run his ROMs cleanly, no backups.
Updating TWRP to the latest version has enabled me to clear everything and I am setting the phone back up now. Thank you all for your help! :good:
OP
The suggestion to not use backups is likely talking about backups from titanium backup etc.
Not about a full backup of the rom. Scott simply does not want data mixed from a previous build which can cause many issues.
A nandroid backup of your device at a time when the device is running properly, can and will save your bacon at some point in your flashing career.
The nandroid will allow restoration of the device partitions if they become corrupted as your device did.
While you may not know what caused the failure, a full wipe and restore using your clean nandroid backup would save you time and effort. Not to mention data you saved inside of the backup.
It is wise to back up everything, including the EFS folder and modem as well in TWRP.
I'm glad you are running again...and once your set up is completed....backup....IMHO.....g
