Hey all,
I have been having an issue with my phone after flashing various roms. I have had the issue occur on every rom ive tried (Bonsai, ACS Syndicate Frozen 1.1 and 1.2, and most recently the ERA eh17 rom)... After I flash a rom everything works great on the phone.. I reinstall programs, re-setup everything, and enjoy the experience once again; however, after a period of about two weeks to a month something goes wrong and I begin getting message after message of force closes. They typically start with Google Services Framework Force Closes. This tends to happen over and over making it difficult to actually use the phone. I've found that once this starts to force close its impossible to actually open up contacts to browse through them. I had browsed solutions to this and went through my gmail account "cleaning up" my contacts. I tried going into applications and clearing data as some suggested.. unfortunately, clear data was grayed out and unavailable as an option. Shortly after getting these messages nearly every process on the phone begins to crash (i can recall acore, phone, messaging.. pretty much anything I try to run). I'm not sure what is causing these problems and would appreciate some help as I thoroughly enjoy running different ROMS and trying new things out. The only "fix" ive found is clearing everything and reflashing. any help is greatly appreciated.
Have you tried fixing permissions under advanced in clockworkmod? It works most of the time for me. Its always worth a shot before reflashing a rom.

+1... sounds like corruption. I always run with journaling on.
thanks for the suggestions... im not sure if journaling was on or not... i downloaded the journaling on zip and have enabled it... just reflashed the era eh17 rom and tried the fix permissions... i'll repost if this did not fix the issue
Journaling on zip should be flashed after you flash a new rom. If you enabled it and flashed a new rom you will have to flash journaling on again. I usually only fix permisions once the force closing starts. It is less likely to happen with journaling on.

Hah....well I fixed permissions, enabled journaling, cleared all x3, flashed, then fixed permissions again and enabled journaling again... Figured that should take care of it... No problems thus far but it has only been half a day

My phone has always randomly had a little glitch. For some reason, once every so often my 3G icon just disappears and stuff like my internet and market dont work. SMS still works fine though. Normally just a reboot fixes the problem but today I had to pull the battery. This happened even when I was fully stock but now I'm running DC 3.2.3 still with the stock kernal. Any similar experiences?
Running all-stock with no root. Happens to me also.
Full bars for signal (calls and texts) but the 3G icon stops transferring. I just put the DATA widget on my homescreen and toggle it. Not really a big deal...so far.
Same things happening to me it wont connect to 3g and freezes most of the time. Just started about 2 days ago

Anyone know anything about this problem? My phone now randomly restarts even when im not using it from trying to connect to 3g im guessing. Keyboard also stops working randomly

are you running a rom?
...If you are you should try flashing a stock rooted and see if the problem still exists. If it does you may want to try to unroot, go back to stock and update everything. Then you can narrow down if it is rom/software/hardware related
Yes i am running stock rom rooted. What do you mean by update everything?

I was also running stock rooted at first. Here is a weird update I just came across though. I've installed (and uninstalled) SwitchPro, which is basically a more customizable widget than the stock power control widget, 3 times now. And every time I add the actual widget to my home screen my 3G instantly disappears.....wtf? I uninstall it and reboot my phone and it's back to normal.
I'm gonna dig in to this a bit after I get back from the gym.

I just meant that if you unroot the phone, make sure your radio's are updated to stock, update your profile and prl, then you could determine if it is hardware related or maybe you just have a bad signal?

I think he means Device Self Service. Updating your PRL, Firmware and Profile.
I forgot to mention that when my 3G becomes "sketchy" this is the 1st thing I do. After that do a soft-reset and pull the battery out.
##RTN# - enter MSL - click menu, reset.
This is the only way I've found to fix this.
It wipes out ALL of your information so make sure you are backed up and synced. It is just like getting the phone new out of the box - it will auto-activate and you should be good to go.
If you don't have your MSL, call Sprint technical support and ask for it.
Thats pretty disapointing that that seems to be the only awnser. Will try when iget back from my vacation. The problem that makes me really mad is that it reboots randomly even when the screen is off in my pocket. Any backup app recomendations?

Been having a weird issue with my phone lately. I'm rooted, s-off, running stock 2.2, no custom kernel.
Lately what will happen is my phones 3G won't work for loading pages, apps, streaming video as it'll be stuck "uploading". By that I mean the upstream arrow will either stay lit or blink. I've tried to pin point an app that would be doing it with no success. It'll do it for a minute sometimes two then work normally. Seems to happen most often when I wake the phone. Any thoughts?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Hmm, sounds like it might be some app, or service phoning home and hanging. Try using a process manager app to see if you can detect which apps and services are running when your phone is doing that. Try killing all nonessential services, then see if the condition persists. If no, then reactivate one service at a time until it does. If the problem persists after killing all nonessential services, have a look at running processes, and kill any that seem suspicious. Once you know which app, service l, or process is the offending party, try uninstalling the related app.
Hope that's helpful.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I'll give that a try. Thanks.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
So after a few weeks of trying, killing apps or processes does nothing to stop the issue. Its very random when it happens and when it does I can do nothing that uses 3G.
Anyone else have an idea?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Is there an app that will show what's using my network in real time? Not a stats app but actual, current usage.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Could it be PRL and location based? Starting to get real frustrating.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Sorry you're still having trouble
Hi Phaded,
Sorry that my suggestion yielded no positive results for you. If you've killed all non-essential services and processes, and it's still appears to be "uploading," something is definitely not right. I don't think it's PRL, but I personally don't know enough about how the radio works to say for sure.
At this point, you could try a different ROM. If you don't already have it, I recommend ROM Manager root. It's totally worth the $ and is available on Android Market. It makes trying different ROMs really easy.
Trying a new ROM would also effectively reinstall your radio, which might do the trick. Before you flash a new ROM, do a nandroid backup from recovery, and backup your apps with Titanium Backup, which is another must-have, IMO.
If all else fails, RMA? It could be hardware... A genius with this stuff I am not, but I have beaten my head against many a wall..
Good luck!
I installed Virtuous 3.1 last night and so far so good. Going to keep an eye out for the rest if the day so hopefully it is fixed.

Congrats Phaded!
Welcome to the ranks of the Virtuous! Glad to hear it's resolved.
Now you've got ROM Manager, you can safely try a host of different ROMs and themes. I recommend the Revolutions theme on top of Virtuous - it's very pretty.

Having same "stuck in upload mode" issue
I have a non-rooted, stock G2 (from T-Mobile) running Android 2.2.
Every day, as many as twenty or thirty times per day, the phone gets stuck in "upload" mode. The data icon shows that data is uploading (or trying to) and I am unable to use any data-related services (whether tethered or on the phone itself). When it happens it can last anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. The only way I can forcibly stop it is to completely shut down the radio by toggling airplane mode off then on, forcing the phone to reacquire a data signal.
I've tried resetting the phone, deleting every app, reinserting the SIM card, and even formatting the SD card. Nothing seems to work to solve the issue.
My two main concerns are that 1) I can't reliably download apps, check mail, send pics/videos, or other data-related processes. 2) I'm concerned that if something IS uploading, it may be uploading a LOT and adding to my 5GB per month throttle-cap on T-Mobile.
I've ended every endable process, and killed or uninstalled every app possible (I can't seem to remove bloatware without rooting, which I'm not yet eager to do as this phone is less than 60 days old, and I'm otherwise happy with it as is).
Any suggestions or recent information as to why this is occurring?
Something keeps trying to turn my 4G off when I'm not even using the 4G. I noticed it when I saw my switchpro 4G toggle was going crazy. 4G isn't even on, but it keeps turning off, if that makes any sense. I can go into the networks settings and watch it happen over and over every couple of seconds. It goes from "Turn on 4G" to "Turning off..." constantly.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm running the Fresh 3.3.0.1 with king's cfs 10 kernel.
How crazy! The same thing is happening to me. Running mims 2point2

I spent the last 2 hours wiping, flashing and restoring only to have it happen again. There was no problem when I loaded up a clean ROM, but somewhere between restoring with Titanium and running calkulin's sense removal script the problem came back.
I deleted SwitchPro and the problem is still there so I know it's not that.
Bump.
ANYBODY???
1) quit using that crap ass titanium. Unless you dont mine your phone continuing to be jacked
2) quit using caulks script and just remove stuff yourself. Carefully... only remove basics like nfl nascar peep facebook twitter tweet and ithers dont go crazy deleting a bunch of **** just because.
There are certains programs that are linked to otgers and atripping things out incorrectly can make other things break and do all kinds of freaky wierd ****.

Titanium is pretty awesome and I have NEVER had an issue with it.
Calkulins script automatically deletes the exact same files I would delete manually, and really isn't crazy with the deleting like omegasun's is. No problem with that either.
Anyways, figured it out. System Info Widget was causing the problem. Deleted it, problem disappeared.
I think the sprint updates and/or auto update reminders can shut down 4G. Is there a easy way to drop the auto update reminder?

Yeah, by updating your phone Don't do it if you're rooted though, instead flash a ROM based off the latest OTA.
I have the same problem I used titanium backup to restore and running myn warm 2.2 4G is cycling on and off about every 6 sec.. Where is this system info widget?
I did a search before posting. I was unable to find any related threads. I was using 2.2 unofficial and when phone lags and I'm hitting back then home during messaging. It will screen capture. Anyone ever experienced this ? It even made it's own folder with the screen captures. Though I'm unable to recreate this on my own.
I have back when my phone ran super slow on ee. Try switching roms. Im on bonsai its almost perfect.

Hey guys. I noticed a lot of people, including myself, have been getting the dreaded process com.android.phone force close message upon booting up new ROMs.
This only happens when trying to connect to data. Turn it off, and the force closes stop. Well, I believe I've found a workaround using an APN file I've found floating around on the Carbon ROM thread!
Upon booting, just keep clicking the OK message to skip past the FC errors and the ROM setup process, and then disable your data as soon as you can. Connect to wifi, go to the Play store and install your favorite root browser. Download the linked APN file at the bottom of this post to your phone, and open up your root browser. Copy the APN file you downloaded, then go to system/etc, delete the stock APN file and replace it with the new one. Set permissions to rw-r-r, reboot into recovery, and do a factory data reset. Boot back into ROM and voila, you should be good!
Note that this may or may not fix your data problems, as every phone is different and some of you are on different carriers. This method has been working for me ever since I started doing it a couple of days ago, and almost every new ROM I've installed recently have given me the FC error. That is no more with this new APN, and I even get a better data connection than before. Hope this helps you all!

This method has also fixed my data problems on the new KitKat ROMs as well. Before, I wouldn't even get data on the new KK ROMs, and if I did, 3G would go away and never come back when switching between wifi and data. Replaced the APN, and my data came back stable, even when switching to wifi.

Okay, I've been seeing this complaint around the forums recently, so I'll say this.
For as long as I've ever owned a smartphone, 3G/4G ALWAYS turned off for me whenever I was in a phone call, but I could still browse the internet and stuff. Maybe now things are different with this phone/these ROMs, and data is actually blocked when in a call, I don't know. It's not an issue to me, though, because I really don't use data while in a call. So hopefully this issue can get cracked down further for you guys who do.

I can confirm that no matter what ROM I've been on, when I made or received a call, my 4G/3G symbol would disappear, but if I was on 4G I could still access the internet. Not with 3G of course. I'll need to get to a 4G area and test this.

For CM10.2 it works fine. For stock it is fine it just seems to be this KitKat that is a GSM build that is being worked over a bit for CDMA. That is where the problem lies.

I wonder if this has to do with our builds coming from the nexus 5, since it is a tri-band LTE device. It does not have the capability to be connected to LTE and CDMA at the same time. Are there any radio files we are grabbing from the nexus 5 that might be causing this behavior to occur?
Check out this article, it talks about the inability of the tri band devices to be connected to LTE while using voice/text:

This did not work for me on the AOSP 4.4 ROM either. I have tried several times and still get force closes. I am running fine on CM10.2 though.
Does this fix the issue with switching between 4G to 3G? While on the Omni rom, if I'm connected to 4G and it loses signal, it doesn't connect to 3G. Or, if I want to turn of 4G and only use 3G, it never connects.
For some reason, when I put it, the system just disregards it. It says successfully deleted and pasted too. When I delete the old one and paste the new one it says "Do you want to overwrite?" even though the old one is gone. Anybody got anything?
