I'm running random ROM hawk v.3 lite. I just recently upgraded from .2 and went back to stock before installing. I can't switch which keyboard is used. First it was stuck on Swype. Then I installed other keyboards. I could switch but it would just return to swype. After resetting I would get the same behavior but with 8pen. Any idea what to do?
I had that or similar prob when the other keyboards had been instlled on sd card. Worth a shot?
All on internal storage.
Are they staying checked in locale n text options or getting turned off there? If u don't want to use it, mebe disable swype as temp workaround until someone in the know responds

Are you checking the keyboard you want AND setting it as the input method in Locale?
They are all enabled in Locale but switching in the input selection doesn't work.

Hi all,
here's how to use the new Swype beta v3.0 with awesome new features:
1. Backup your existing Swype version with Titanium Backup.
2. Uninstall your existing Swype with Titanium Backup.
3. Go to http://beta.swype.com/ , sign up and complete all the steps.
4. Complete!
That was easy
(Even though the Swype website states, that it isn't possible to use this new version on devices that came preinstalled with Swype...)
downloaded and working fine
But it only lasts 6 months before dying completely (I'm an old Archos original swype beta man) - so perhaps best to wait for "official" upgrade.
thank you js...i tried it before i read your post and somehow missed the warning about not installing...anyway thanks to your post, i tried it and it is AWESOME!! by the way, what was major c meaning when he said it would be only for 6 months? do it get disabled automatically? if so, can we go back to the old version cause we had saved it in titanium? kindly guide.
What changes it includes from the old swype??
Yeah if you read the beta sign up agreement biff it expires after 6 months. There will likely be an update before that happens though, so it's a rolling thing.
Is the update that much better than what we have on galaxy sii stock though? I.e. is it worth it?

OMG!! trust me guys...this is just awesome...no! really unbelievably A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!
the keyboard has been upgraded in the landscape version...the space bar is made a bit small so that it fits comfortably for the thumb (if need be)...the word replacement is excellent and its just like the android stock keyboard word suggestor (no pop up windows). the accuracy is wonderfull...i had started out only recently and i could do a fair but of speed too...all in all it is a must have
HOWEVER!! (isnt that always so)
i had to go back to the stock swype cause i have having problems...like it just stopped working...but when i had it it was a world of fun...its certainly worth a try and going back to the stock is very easy with titanium please do yourselves a favour and try it
I try to uninstall swype using Titanium Backup but I get "Cannot Mount" error. I am uninstalling it wrong by using the bottom option on the long hold?
Nevermind, just used Root Explorer and did it manually.

yes you did it wrong, just click apps once, quickly, then choose un-install.
The long press stuff is not needed.
The new Swype is AMAZING. I love that the suggestions do not pop up on the screen any more. There is just a suggestion bar like the default keyboard

latest swype beta

But how about the languages? Is there a way to get danish to Swype 3 beta?
This Keyboard is great, damn good find.
Thank you very much!
So I backed up, uninstalled and installed perfectly, no issues. When the phone is restarted, the licensing check fails because the SGS II uses some kind of quick boot which withholds information swype needs on boot. Tried wiping data for swype and installer, the only way to get it working again was to reinstall swype (not installer) let me know if anyone else has replicated this issue. From what I have read, this is the issue with a couple of samsung and htc phones.

I had the same problem.
So I ran the swype installer again, and it said it needed to be re-licensed. I did all it wanted, and it still didn't work.
So I then used titanium pro to uninstall the swype app (not the installer) and THEN used the installer to download and install swype AGAIN.
That worked.
But what was different now is that I turned my phone OFF, and restarted it - and swype is still licensed!
Villain rom 1.4, tegrak overclock.
Maybe using the reboot option stuffs up the license on some roms; try turning the phone OFF and restarting it.

Interesting point. Restart may use some kind of warm boot so it's quick?
2 Questions
1) In Root Toolbox, there are 2 selections under 'other'... 1 being ICS Fonts and the other being ICS Sounds. I DL'd both, but was only able to find and install the fonts in recovery, successfully. I downloaded the ICS Sounds again, and still have no clue where it is, and since I don't see it, I don't know how to install it.
2) I have swype installed but every time I restart my phone I end up with the default keyboard, and I HAVE to go to the keyboard menu and enable swype, THEN go to a typing area and selection input and then click Swype. This happens everytime.
Currently running Decks 1.3d, but that probably doesn't matter...
Hi, I wanted to post this in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671395
but can't since I'm a new user here. (longtime lurker)
Anyways,
After installing the 5.07.651.1 Stock Rooted ROM, the swype keyboard doesn't work anymore... it keeps getting Force Closes.
If I delete the Application Data for swype, it runs, but does nothing when swyping. Even the tutorial demo doesn't work right.
Going back to 4.67.651.3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455340
solves the problems. (I've tried 3 times)
Thanks,
Bob

Interesting. I thought I tested Swype and it worked okay when I moved it to /data. I'll look into this. It should be easily fixable.

I just did a completely fresh flash of that ROM, and installed nothing. I skipped through the Setup wizard, and when I got to the Home screen, I pressed the Search button, and changed input methods to Swype. It popped up and works fine. I'm even doing the tutorial right now, which is also working fine.
Did you confirm you got a good download by verifying the md5? Did you install anything else that may have interfered with Swype, or uninstall anything? Did you try installing the Swype Beta over the original Swype in the ROM?
All I know is that it works fine out of the box. I can post a few screenshots, if you'd like.

OK. I'm not sure what's wrong with mine then.
I didn't check the MD5 but I assume that the ZIP CRC would have failed if the file was corrupt.
I didn't try the swype beta.
I have Google Pinyin installed, which is another IME, but it's always worked fine.
Thanks,
Bob

If you want to try it again, I would get a fresh download, and before setting anything up, try to use Swype.
If it doesn't work then, I'll look into it further.
After the JB update, whenever I reboot the phone, the keyboard keeps on return to Swype, even after I have the default keyboard set to others. Does anyone else has this problem? Any possible solution? I heard that it will be fixed on 4.1.2 but its probably won't be release until next year

Yes I changed the default keyboard and every time I restart the phone it goes back to samsung keyboard. (sorry said swype before but it was actually samsung keyboard)
I am currently using another keyboard that support other language and set it to default but everytime I reboot the phone, it switch back to samsung keyboard.
I have this exact same problem, except I am trying to use Swiftkey 3. Every time I reboot the phone it returns to the stock keyboard and I have to go back in the menus and select Swiftkey as the default.

When you go to Language and Input, the default shown is the one we selected, but the keyboard is NOT the default one.
This is the link I was talking about. It could be a bug in 4.1.1 that will be fix in 4.1.2
Nvm
could be a bug in it not being installed properly, or just needing a factory reset. I've read that the factory reset fixes it, and more so that it doesn't happen to those who wiped data and such before installing a custom rom.

I did factory reset before installing this firmware.
I download the entire firmware (Stock T-mobile JB) from sammobile and install it using Odin
not happen to me. I tried to reset the phone and swiftkey is still intact.
It tends to have bugs after update in android. I suggest updating via OTA since this way does't give me any bugs. When I did update via Odin, I got bugs. Also, you should do factory reset AFTER updating, not before updating. so yeah try to do a factory reset.
Don't know what to tell you guys I tried swiftkey smart keyboard and 4.2 all stick after a reboot.

Sorry i forgot to say, I did a reset through recovery before and after updating.
Does the same thing on my phone as well, coming from a fresh Odin flash and factory reset. It is a known issue with jelly bean. I just froze the Samsung keyboard with TB as a workaround

Hello, guys. There is a "simple" fix: just to make Swype the only one keyboard. So you make root and uninstall Samsung and any other keyboards with Titanium backup))

OMG how ironic, I was just about to make a thread for that same thing.
I'm pretty sure it's a bug with Swiftkey and JB.
I've run the Sprint JB build on my AT&T GS3, as well as some custom ROMs, and they all do the same. The OS reverts back to the Samsung keyboard upon reboot and you have to reselect Swiftkey.
The only way I was able to fix it, is when I was debloating a ROM for flashing. I deleted the Samsung Keyboard and put in a stock AOSP keyboard. After that I never had the problem again.
Unfortunately I don't know what files to delete for the Samsung Keyboard once the ROM is flashed. It's easy when you have the CWM flashable ROM to manipulate it before you flash.
I am not sure if it is a Swiftkey bug or a bug in the Samsung Keyboard cause without the Samsung keyboard even installed, it doesn't have that bug.
I've had no beef with SwiftKey.

Turn your phone off and back on and see if it defaults back to the Samsung Keyboard.
I've seen in some threads people with other keyboards than Swiftkey are also having this issue.
It only happens when you reboot the phone.

Same here. No problems whatsoever with SwiftKey after reboots.
I have too.
Rooted, disabled Samsung keyboard and Swype with TiBu.
No more problems.
No issues with Swiftkey staying as my default keyboard after rebooting. Stock, unrooted Bell 4.1.1 update.
My swype default remained as it is after reboot.

Ok being as I don't have a CWM firmware flash to mess with, I guess I'm going to have to do some things manually.
So for me to disable the Samsung Keyboard, do I just need to go into the system/app folder and either delete or rename the SamsungIME.apk and SamsungIME.odex?
I don't use Titanium, so I don't have a resource to freeze an app. Plus I prefer to actually delete it if I am not using it anyway.
Also, I have the stock AOSP 4.1 JB Keyboard I had installed with my Custom Sprint build I was using, but I just injected that into the firmware before flashing. To install the APK fo that, I just basically need to put it on the internal or external SD card and in file explorer just install it that way?
Thanks.
