Reset modem through terminal? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible? On Hurricane 1.4/5/6 I've not been able to close wifi and open 3g of vice versa, is it possible to reset my modem through terminal?

hmm...good question. I think with the lcd density app it resets the modem when you temporarily change densities

[Q] I flashed bad NV files through QXDM!! HELP

I screwed up the process of making my Epic run on Boost and now, after flashing the wrong NV files with QXDM and QPST my phone will barely work. The modem wont work, the phones HARDWARE display under setting that shows your phones info said UNKNOWN as well as the BASEBAND, but now it wont even let me go to the STATUS section. The only thing that works is wifi but the MARKET and INTERNET for close when i try and use them so wifi doesnt even matter.. So what I am hoping to hear from someone is that there is a way to flash those important NV files that make your phone THAT particular phone. Some of the NV files that were flashed to it were from an optimus so thats why nothing really works now.. ANYONE PLEASE HELP! Thanks

[Q] 3G advanced configuration (help me please)

Hello there, this is my problem...
I flashed my phone and now I can't make 3G work. I have tried all this:
- call to my phone company and enter the exact parameters in configuration (user, password, server, etc)
- flash with another custom ROM
- flash with the original stock of my country (Chile) (via Odin, from Doky73 firmwares)
- backup from another GT-S5360L and restore in my phone
- enter into the servicemode *#*#197328640#*#*
Nothing of this have worked.
PLEASE HELP ME!
¿DO YOU KNOW A 3G ADVANCED CONFIGURATION MENU?
¿IS POSSIBLE THAT 3G IS GONE FOREVER?
HMM...
Did you try changing ur network mode to WCDMA? If its on auto mode then change it.. if still u dont get 3g or the H sign near ur network then its the fault of ur service provider

yes i tried changing to only WCDMA and I lost the signal.
I put the my SIM in another SGY and I changed to only WCDMA configuration and 3G is totally ok... =/
Maybe your current location doesn't have strong enough signal for your SIM card, try changing location

It seems to be a really weird problem.. try asking your service provider for 3g setting FOR galaxy y. If it still doesnt work then ur 3G receptor is not working.
try turning on the packet data, and switch to WCDMA only.
if it does not work turn off packet data, then goto flight mode switch to GSM only and back to WCDMA and turn on packet data again. this also happens on my phone sometimes.

Try dialing ##3282# (you will need your SPC/ MSL code, which is unique to your phone)... OTHERS ... MMSC URL ... change the Sprint server listed in there to http://mm.myboostmobile.com
that would work but when i try that my setting will force close

I ODIN-flashed two versions of ICS (FC18 and FC24 - full wipe with restore to stock) and both times my 3G did not work. I could see the 3G icon and the green arrow sending, but the orange arrow never lit up, as if there was something wrong with the way I set up the DATA profiles. After going back to EL29 and restoring the DATA profiles one more time (using the exact same steps I used after installing ICS), my phone is running properly again.
To answer your question, I entered ##3282# and I was able to put the Boost server and saved the setting without any force close.
I also didn't like the fact that scrolling wasn't smooth in ICS as in 2.3.6...
When you updated your phone to ICS, did you do a full wipe to stock or did you keep your existing DATA profiles and settings ?

If you flash your phone from 2.3.6 to stock 4.0 (full factory restore through ODIN, not through CWM) you will lose your Boost Mobile DATA profiles ... in other words, you would have to re-flash to Boost all over again... I can't confirm this will happen to you as well, but this was the second time I tried ICS and I had identical results.
NOTE: if you'll do a factory restore through ODIN from EK02 to/from EL29 or to any other 2.3.6 ROM version, then your DATA profiles won't get erased. It seems that it only happens when you upgrade to ICS 4.0
To make matters worse, 3G didn't work in ICS... after re-flashing the phone to Boost with all the DATA profiles the icon appeared, but the DOWNLOAD arrow never lit-up. The internet just didn't work... I didn't spend too much time trying to figure out what was broken, so I just put back EL29, re-flashed to Boost one more time and the phone returned to normal.
I will probably spend more time with ICS when Sprint comes out with the official release. If the net is still broken at that point, then I'll put the time to find a solution...but until then ...

[Q] EVO flashed to boost no roms?

Okay so let me explain my dilemma. I have a flashed evo 4g with a custom recovery and custom rom.
Since I don't have windows XP for the correct drivers or a boost phone to use so I called this store that does it.
They said they can do it on a custom rom but things like MMS wont work and I'll never have 4g. Which I know the 4g doesn't work on most custom roms thats okay.
He said it would have MMS if I just put my phone back to stock. But I wont be able to flash a custom ROM again because it will erase their patch and I wont have boost anymore because it will erase the phone.
Why is that? If I do it myself is MMS available? And if I do it myself would I erase the boost switch when changing roms? I don't see how it could if your just switching the routing address per say to the phones.
All you have to do is change the APN settings to boosts gateway for MMS to work, needs to be done for every rom flash. The calls, SMS and data settings will stick between flashes. The wipes required to flash a rom don't affect the partition those settings reside in

how do I change the APN setting? And should I switch back to stock before I have them change it?

M919 on NB4, ONLY getting LTE

So I've posted in a couple threads regarding similar problems, but I should finally get my own thread.
My issue is that my M919 is ONLY getting LTE signal.
I've tried full NB4 stock, GPE stock, various AOSP and Touchwiz based roms - all having the same issue.
I only get basic cell service (able to make phone calls) at work where we are located directly next to the cell tower.
I get home (which is only a short distance away from the office) and I lose the ability to make phone calls, but can still get texts and voicemail (have to use the visual voicemail app though, as I can't dial the vm).
I've verified that if I turn off the LTE part of the radio, I lose signal completely.
I get a decently strong data signal at home, so it's not a strength issue for LTE.
My previous phone was an HTC One (M7) which worked 100% fine at home or work.
My wife's iPhone works just fine.
I've tried flashing both modem.bin and non-hlos.bin for NB4 on this phone (flash, reboot to download, flash again) and this has not restored my signal.
Anyone with any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!
This may sound dumb but what APN settings are you using? if you go into menu/connections/more networks/mobile networks/ network mode and you should see a list of network settings and more options. Make sure that you don't have just the LTE option ticked. If that doesn't work in the hidden menu someone might have set the phone for LTE bands only......pretty sure you have to flash a older modem like MDL to get into the hidden menu to change the band settings.
you want to have this option ticked in network mode setting

This is all from a stock rom correct?
on AOSP 4.4.4, it only has "LTE/3g/2g" for network modes.
I'm using the AT&T "phone" APN, which is configured correctly.
Will this hidden service menu work on AOSP?
How about 4.4.2 NB4 Touchwiz stock?
I have the KNOX bootloader, so I don't think I can downgrade to MDL at this point.
[UPDATE:] It does appear I am getting 3G signal at work (right next to the cell tower) - I can set the network mode to 3G and the signal goes from LTE to showing H+ and H (AOSP rom). I can make calls at work - so this looks like a GSM signal strength issue. The radio in this S4 seems to completely lose GSM at -97 dbm, but LTE is still stable up to -116 dbm.
If flashing a modem could fix this issue, I'd think flashing the MK2/NB4 modem and non-hlos bin files should have fixed this multiple times over already. Could this need a kernel flash separate from the rom?
I'm wondering if this is a software setting I am missing or if I have a hardware issue and may need to open this phone up and tweak something... It's definitely out of warranty and I don't care at this point. I like the phone, but the not being able to make phone calls at home is frustrating when the iPhone works just fine and my old M7 worked just fine.
Thanks!
You could definitely try flashing a kernel, I have good success with the stock modified kernel by jovy. You can still flash older modems on the nb4 boot loader but the phone will be really lagy and slow but all you need the older modem for is to get into the hidden menu then once you have done your tweaking in the hidden menu you flash back to nb4, and yes the settings stick even when you flash back to nb4. To get into the hidden menu you dial *#0011#

Do I need to be on stock Touchwiz in order to get the hidden menu?
And to get the menu requires flashing the MDL modem.bin or non-hlos.bin or both?
I can take a nandroid of my current setup and flash stock NB4 no problem - just want to confirm that is what needs to happen:
Flash stock NB4, then flash MDL modem.bin, boot and check hidden menu. Then flash NB4 modem.bin back and test.
Thanks!

Yes the hidden service menu. I'm sure there is probably other ways to get into it besides flashing the older modem but I've never really looked into it.

I had to flash stock TW 4.4.2.
Then I was able to get to the service menu from the dialer with *#2263#. *#0011# didn't work at all.
I made sure that "Automatic" had a * next to it.
I'm on the NB4 modem, did not and could not flash the MDL since I'm on the KNOX NB4 bootloader.
I'll see if I can test this later today to verify if this has resolved the issue.
Hidden menu was set to automatic, still on stock 4.4.2 with NB4 modem. No GSM signal at my house when iPhone and M7 both have at least 2-3 bars and can make calls.
I am getting a GSM signal at work, but that is directly next to a tower.
Is this likely a hardware issue? Or should I try a kernel?
