I have a rooted HTC Desire 2.1 and I have installed wireless tether. I have set up an ad hoc network on my laptop and my laptop is getting the signal from my phone because it is saying connected with an excellent signal. Problem is I can not bring up any web pages on my laptop. Any ideas.

Hi,
I've currently got a Touch HD and use the internet sharing feature quite a lot, pairing my phone to my laptop via bluetooth and using the 3G connectivity to browse the web at a fair speed.
I can see that the Desire supports tethering via USB (that's stated on the specification page on the HTC webpage), but will I be able to tether via bluetooth and connect through the phone in the same way (or the equivalent Android way)?
Thanks!
David

hello,everyone
To my knowledge, froyo itself does not support ad hoc connection.
In order to enable ad hoc connection for my desire, l downloaded a patch(see below), and recovery it to rom.
as result, my desire can find adhoc network established in my winxp laptop, but it keeps
display "obtaining Ip address", and failed in the end
who can hell me ?
by the way , i use stock rom
ad hoc connection

I know, it is shocking how badly this has been implemented. I found a way around it installing on my PC connectify, which allows you to turn your PC into a hotspot to share your internet connections.
However, this is not working with windows 7 starter, which is installed on my light travel PC. Of course the solution is to buy an upgrade to w7 home edition...surprise surprise...
So, this time both android and microsoft badly ****ed up!!
My wife has the Sprint version of the HTC Snap with the stock Windows Standard 6.1 ROM. I'm trying to setup Internet Connection Sharing so that she can tether to her laptop using a USB cable.
I don't think this phone has WiFi, so I cannot use a WiFi Router.
When I go into ICS, select Connect, and plug in the cable to the laptop, it seems to connect to the laptop, but displays Waiting for Network on the phone. The laptop cannot conenct to the Internet. Did Sprint do something to disable ICS? The phone has a good signal and has no issues connecting to the Internet by itself.
Has anyone gotten this to work on the Sprint network?
Hello!
I have installed RCMix HD rom, with new Sense, and i have option for Internet Pass-Through. I am wondering, if it is possible, to use on phone internet connection from PC via Internet Pass-Through, and in settings turn on Portable WiFi Hotspot, that will let me to connect to internet on another laptop? I tried this, but i doesn't have internet on laptop...
And, is this possible anyway?
The way the internet sharing works with the Desire is that it acts like a modem which then shares the internet with a PC. You can't do it the other way around, sharing internet from your PC to your phone, just phone to PC.
You can use your computers internet via internet pass through, I know because I've tried it, but you can't use the computer internet for hotspot, I tried that too

@damo : bro can u tell me how u did it???m using windows 7 but cant seem to get it work on the phone....everything is getting connected but no show on the phone....
is there any particular setting u need to do???
as a thought - what about if you made an adhoc connection from laptop and shared internet with that connection...?
just a thought- completely untested..
just remember when I had a machine set up with a crossover and shared wifi from laptop to PC and wondered if you could do something similar with an adhoc wifi connection...
You can't share the internet connection used from a pass through connection. The reason is that it uses the same framework for both pass through connections and Portable Hotspot. Would be cool if it could be done, but with Windows XP and above you setup an AdHoc Wifi connection which will allow you to connect one device and share and internet connection.
Hi guys,
I am currently online with my computer wich has a 3G Stick/Modem attached to it. (= No WiFi router around I could use)
What I want to do is to somehow connect my DHD to the computer so I could access the internet via the 3G Stick from my phone while the modem is still pluged in to the computer.
I tried creating an Ad-Hoc network but for some reason, my phone wont connect to it, its always stuck on "Authentication" or "Retrieving IP-Adress".
Is there a way I could manage the whole thing by connecting the Phone via a USB-Cable?
When you plug phone into pc there should be an internet pass through option. I know the inspire can do it and I'm pretty sure the dhd is the same.
i dont know what os you have but i can create a wifi network using my macs ethernet port and connect to it. i know this can be done on linux too
Ad hoc network is probably not authenticating because the phone is not being assigned an ip address... (not a networking expert... just telling you what ive noticed with most devices) creating a network bridge between your usb 3g dongle and your wifi might help... not a surefire thing but its worth a shot.
.. if u are using a stock rom or one with sense then theres the internet pass through option which requires htc sync.
