Hey all, HTC Sense has been my Favorite UI for LONG time now, recently, i`m having some sort of a bug or so.
it`s like this:
UI is OK, running fine.
i fire an App (Barcode Scanner, a Game, or pretty much ANY big App except the really small apps like calculator, market access..)
when i hit BACK button to exit from the app, i`m supposed to go the the HOME but when i`m there i find that HTC Sense is LOADING (just like if it was FORCED closed or something) of course, i DO NOT get the dialog which says "HTC Sense isn`t responding [Force Close]" it`s just loading... and that has become VERY annoying... to wait for Sense to load after every app i use!!!
any solutions?
Notes:
Desire 2.2.1 LeeDrOiD 2.3b
with esk0Glass transparent theme on top
[of course i had NO PROBLEMS what so ever with those 2 installed together in the past, i just had the problem recently.]
i have 144 App -according to the AppDrawer- (30 of those are games *just to show off*) installed.
2GB SD card, FREE 330 MB
Free internal memory 54 MB
APP2SD+
It's not a problem with Sense. It's a problem with LeeDroid... Have Lee installed since a week now and seems like I have the same issue as you have, whereas I spent like a month with Aurax and ReflezHD and the problem did not appear.

oh ok that helps a lot. thanks.. Now at least i know where the problem is.. apparently i have to flash the last patch 2.3c .. although the changelog doesn`t say that it fixes this problem,,,,

Don`t the Devs use the Source codes or those stuff to modify it ??!!
Well, i`m not a Dev so i don`t know.. but that`s what i thought..
Most of the time reloading of Sense is caused by to low RAM, how long do you go without a reboot? It's best to reboot once a day/once every two days.
As a alternative you could also use a task killer to clear RAM but there is more setting up to do with apps you can kill and apps you should not kill. If you decide to use the taskkiller, do not use it with autokill or something similar just use it instead of the reboot.
@up - well, although your statement abot ram may be a good guide on where to seek for the problem, from what I understood my problems with Lee roms does not corelate with low ram... even reinstalled latest LeeDroid and checked - 130mb free ram and still random (well mostly about the time I finish speaking or closing the applications) FC happened... Again mpved back to Aurax and everything seems ok. I do have my own reason - reed in the polish android support forum that Lee has changed the default CPU settings and the problems disappear when you install the default sense settings. Good luck.

I have a couple questions in regards to the two different ROMS. I'm currently running Gingervillain v1.4. Didn't update to 1.5 because there was a bug or something that I read into that made me decide not to update.
Now, with the release of CM7, I would like to know if I should flash this.
The main problems I have with Gingervillain that's irritating are:
1) WiFi Calling does not work
2) Sometimes screen does not go on after hitting the unlock button (talks about this being an OC issue)
3) a bunch of random reboots
But I found it extremely convenient that Gingervillain included an OC kernal within their ROM so it saved me time and research. Does CM7 have an OC kernal built in too? And what are some MAIN issues that CM7 suffer from? I've read in a few but I wanna know of the main things that will cause a problem in daily usage (I heard GPS had issues).
Get CM7. Nothing against GV but all u seek is in CM7.

I second that

I have no issues with CM7, GPS gets a lock in less than five sec., been using it since Build 0 and yes it comes with an OC'd kernel.
CM7 RC1 all the way lol. No issue at all for me

Been using CM7 since nightly #30 (were on #40 now). WiFi calling works, GPS now seems to work for everyone (confirmed working just fine locks in <10 sec), and I've never had a reboot.
I'm running at 1017mhz OC and no screen on/off issues or wakelock, although I've heard that people overclocked are having some issues here and there. I've also replaced ADW with the stock GB launcher and its extreeeemely smooth.
get cm7 rc1
Wow... majority rules... CM7 here I come.. LOL
I dont know if my gps isn't working or if it's just taking a stupid long amount of time to lock on to satellites. How can I make sure my gps is working?

1) using wifi calling in GV1.5, no issues for me.
2) OC'd screenlock issue fix: use Interactive scaling instead of on-demand.
3) (I haven't had random reboots on any gingerbread roms so I can't help you there )
not saying don't go CM7 - pretty obvious that it's a solid rom, but I quite like GV1.5 on my G2. it's snappier for me, even at stock clocks.
I run GV1.5 the exact same way I was running CM7 - same settings, LauncherPro with 1 homescreen and 2 dock screens and 3D drawer, 1113/368 with interactive scaling and no profiles set up (haven't needed to yet).
the main reason I switched from CM7 is that LauncherPro would FC every time I started my phone. GV1.5 fixed that for me. other than that, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these roms at this point...
plus, GV2.0 is fast approaching
I have a gray GPS icon in the notification bar when I'm trying to use it. But I've waited over 15 minutes without a lock-on.
Is my GPS not functioning, or is it just taking ridiculously long to lock on??
I have a problem with the newest version of the Dungeon Defenders on froyo. It was smooth and stable under 2.1 but the os was crappy, so i updated to the 131, then to the 145 and after the 34.4.9 US official froyo during the past few weeks, but the problem remained on every version. Sometime the game is fully playable for hours, sometimes it freezes the whole phone, or extremely slow right after i start the game and almost impossible to quit (0.01 FPS) and i have to remove the battery. Other games like Dungeon Hunter are always good and the the problem never occured, but Sygic Aura(a GPS software) sometimes produces the same problem. The phone is rooted but not overclocked.
Anyone else experiences the same or my phone is faulty? Thank you in advance!
I have exactly same problem in 2.2.1 with any 3D application (kwaak3, raging thunder). Killing all apps with Advanced Task Killer makes phone smooth again without reboot, but all 3D applications are unusable.
After some searching i still haven't solution.
This http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826507 isn't working, neither this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008645
After exiting problematic application CPU usage is 0%, but phone is choppy and unresponsive.
i have downgraded back to eclair and everything is good. The cpu usageis 0% but the IOW is realy high. That is why the phone is choppy. I have tried every froyo rom from 107 to 164 and none of it is working right for me. I dont know that the problem is because of the beta firmware or our phone is faulty? But if it is goog under eclair it cannot be faulty? Isnt it?
This problem has been reported even with the official/unofficial current Motor release of 2.2
Try a stock rom withou blur, 3.4.2-155-002.
With blur, many games lag, don't start, or crash while playing. Tested in stock 2.1, 3.4.3-11, with blur. If you test in stock 3.4.2-155-02, you will see the difference.
I'm in barebones 1.4 now, playing all my games, overclocked and undervolted ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected] 75 threshold).
The best game to test your Defy is Asphalt 6, if this game run, all other will run too (Dungeon Hunter II tested too).
I have done a little bit of build.prop tweak and I found it reduced the problem slightly (doesn't eliminate). Very rarely for games to lag now, but still exists in Google Map, only if you navigated a wide region.
dalivik.vm.heapsize=30m
to
dalivik.vm.heapsize=40m
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=70
to
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=60
**currently using 34.4.9, this also worked on 34.4.4 (t-Mobile)**
The results are obtained from trail-n-error. Not very scientific, but you could give it a try and post some feed back. Thank you.
Problems start appearing some time after phone reboot, but for now everything runs fine. Thank you very much for posting this !
i think i found the solution or at least some kind of workaround for dungeon defenders running on froyo. when the game starts lagging (in most cases in lobby) just press the home button und return to homescreen, slide a few times and return back to the game and it plays smoothly and laggfree as if nothing ever happened. works for me everytime. hope it does for you too.

Unfortunately problem is still there, maybe its little bit better with teruyume's tweak. I found thread about this bug in official motorola forum, so let's hope someone can solve it.

Yes, but phone is very choppy after bug appears, sliding in homescreens is almost unpossible.
Because the problem occurs for me not only in Dungeon Defenders I think it has to be a known bug to motorlola nad dont release the the update this buggy. Editing the heap is a good idea i will test it tonight and reports how it is works.
i edited the build prop and tried the home screen trick bot none ofthem helped.. i am on 3.4.2-155. going back to eclair agan
You guys now something? i tried DefyFroyoSense and Dungeon Defenders was COMPLETLY smooth. Smoother than on 2.1. This ROM is magic.
sometimes it is smooth for a couple hours. But once it starts to lag i cannot make it to work right once again only just by restarting the phone. but i will try that sense rom
Hello erverybody
Since a few day I'm using this version of ICS for my desire "ICS 4.0.4 BCM RC3.1U0 GSM/CDMA <2012-04-03>".
So much I can say nearly erverything work. But I have bibg problems with the download speed from the market.
It doesen't matter if I'm using wlan or not. the download speed is very very slow.
Normally It was only a few seconds to download an app with a szie of 5MB, but now I can count approximately 10kb per second.
I came from rom version sMiui V4 ICS and saved all apps via google account. After installing BCM and after the first installation setting, the market wanted to install all 30 apps I had ssaved.
This wasn't possible with only ~10kb per second.
Does anyone have a solution or a tip for me how to solve the problem?
I'm happy about every help I can get, because I want to keep the version of ICS on my desire, but not much longer with this problem.
Thanks
Hey,
I experience the same on Sandvolds ics rom, when trying to download more than one app in parallel. Happens quite often when installing updates.
Try to install one single app. There I get full speed.
I saw similar on Sandvolds ROM after setting up a2sd
Hello
I also have the problem when I'm dowlaoding only one app at the same time.
At home I made a speed test with unitymedia.de/speedtest (20.000 Flat) and I must say that I have not the full speed as with my notebook but it was nearly the half of it. That should be fast enough.
But downling from Market is still very very slow.
Hi guys,
I have question regarding my HTC Desire Z .. Ever since I rooted the phone about 1.5 years ago, and have been trying out the newer ROMs, I've slowly realized that my phone is getting slower, slower, and slower .. I'm currently using a Jellybean ROM, and its *extremely* slow ! I mean, at times I receive a call, and the ringer rings about 5-6 times, and during all this time, the phone doesn't have the juice to switch to the phone app, so that I can 'accept' the call ! Ultimately the call disconnects itself!
A friend recently suggested to me that maybe the newer ROMs are two powerful for my phone, and that I need to move to an older Android version ROM, which my Desire Z CAN handle, without this much lag !
Also, I hardly have any apps installed on my phone at all, in an attempt to keep the load low .. I also use 'Advance Task Killer' regularly to kill background apps, but it doesn't really improve anything ..
What can I do to improve the speed of my phone !? I really pisses me off to see a 10-15 second lag when I call someone !
Get rid of the task killer first of all...

I dont think it will make any difference .. I've tried many different ROMs, and its always the same condition with all ... Sometimes my phone become *so* unresponsive that I just feel like smashing it on the ground ! (When I really get upset!)
Also, on another note, when I open Advanced Task Killer, it shows me the amount of free RAM on the top .. Most of the times this value is between 60 MB ~ 100 MB, and sometimes between 100 MB ~ 140 MB .. If never seen this value go above 135 MB or so ... And Desire Z is supposed to have 512 MB of RAM
just full wipe and reflash the rom

If I do that, it will initially be fast .. Even if I install all my apps on the first day, it will still be okay in terms of speed ... But give it a week, it eventually becomes slow .. very slow! .. And the odd thing is, during this week, I don't necessary install/uninstall anything .. the phone just ****s itself in somehow ... And then from then on, it remains slow, no matter what ...
I open Google Maps, takes like 15 seconds to open .. takes another 60 seconds to go to Google Navigation, and then further lags after that ..
Basically there's a lag in *everything* !
Is there a way I can see what is slowing down the phone ?!
Also, is it true or not whether an older phone, such as Desire Z, can or cannot handle a relatively newer Android version ROM ? Maybe this is why the latest Android versions are NOT officially available for phones many times, because the manufacturer knows the device cannot handle that newer Android version ?
If your rom supports ext partitions, make sure all of yours are formatted that way. Chances are you have sopme bad apps, a logcat may hedlp determin abused wake locks or memory leaks. Also you can try downloading battery batt stats or watchdog for more infor

i had a play with elitemod ics the other day & it was defiantly slower than the GB version... it was using more or less double the ram which i suspect is the real problem.....
Yes its true the newer versions are more hungry. We touched on it in one of the andromadus threads recently. I believe the issue to be the cpu. The nexus s has the same amount of ram as us and although its not as good on there as the gnex, its still good. Having bumped my lower cpu limit a notch, its much better. I also tried a few upper limits and found that 1200 to be best as it suffers with animation under that.
But then all dz's are different. Stay on your rom and bump up the lower limits a few clicks and let us know what you think.

I've noticed the slowdowns happening with negligible CPU load and no memory constraints. I suspect a problem with the kernel. At the times it happens, the phone seems to be just doing *nothing*.

Is there any other thing I can try apart from logcat ? I installed Watchdog a few hours ago, but so far it hasn't reported anything out of the way ..
What does have ext partitions do ? How does that speed up the OS ?
Also, I'm probably going to be re-flashing another ROM soon, so please suggest me a ROM ... I'm looking for maximum longterm stability and responsiveness here, so even if a ROM isn't the newest or the most feature-filled, I can still try it out ..
And what is Superwipe (read it in another thread) ?
Normally, when I restore stuff after installing a ROM, I download a fresh copy of the app from the Store, and only restore the app's data using titanium .. is this okay ?
For the sake of starting fresh, flash the ext 4 recovery and flash mimicry as your rom. Read all suggestions in the first few post on mimicry, to flash 4ext I made a thread, you'll find it the first page or so in the general section (dzhboot or something)
Mimicry is one of the best made best performing full featured ics roms for our phones, partitioning everything to 4ext (easily done through recovery) will make it far better. Other bonus tweaks will be added in.
There (in my opinion) are beter performing gingerbread roms, but I do sugest mimicry as it is amazing and the dev has laid out a wealth of knowledge in the first few posts

I'm assuming you're referring to this thread: http://www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Well this is the ROM I'm currently using, which I flashed about 2 months ago, which is giving me all these performance issues ..
I went through the first few pages, but I didn't find any instructions on 4EXT ... The only thing I found was in the OP's FAQ in the start, which said that you should apply ext by downloading 4ext from Play Store, if you get lags ..
Anywhere else I can look ?
Look in general section, somewhere in the first page I posted a thread called dzhboot on g2 or something to that extent, one of the first few posts I eplain how to flash 4ext recovery.
One of the fastest roms I have used is elitemod cm7, maybe try that

I have been wondering the same as the OP. I have been using andromadus and andromadus mimicry roms for the past few month. I tired cm9 unofficial but it was no different to mimicry in terms of lag. Currently on flinny's jb beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005136. Lag is not terrible but too often I am looking at a white screen waiting for something to happen.
I often experience lags opening apps like phone and browser (any browser). Phone hanging when trying to make a call is particularly annoying because my wife asks "why is your phone so ****?"
I would love to have a really smooth experience like others report but even with a fresh wipe I seem to have trouble. When I try to reduce the process limit i still seem to have too many processes running. What should i look for in logcat in terms of tracking down the problem?
Maybe 4ext will sort it out? I am very loathe to go back to a cm7 rom.
Ext4 worked really well for me to speed up my phone.. I highly recommend it.

It's gotta be a certain app your installing thats hogging all your memory, I been running mimicry ever since blk released it n have had very few slowdowns.
Never had a problem receiving/making calls 'wiping' is not the same as 'superwiping' its different then just the name, I suggest you do some reading up before flashing any more roms.

i superwipe, and i've been flashing roms since the g1. I am not seeing any particular process hogging resources. this current jb beta is pretty good but still get some lagging at random.
if that were the case I would love to try and find out what it is.
it seems to me that a minority of users report lags in rom threads and are dismissed without ever really getting to the root of the problem.
I would really like to try and get to the bottom of it. I am going to move to ext4 but if there are other troubleshooting steps to take I am all ears.
Ext4 alone will make a huge difference, and most of the rest of the slow downs will be do to apps/running services which can be seen with a logcat what is continually trying to use cpu resources
If only a minority report slowdowns then either that minority has a different idea of how the phone should run/ they use the phone in a completley different way/ or have different settings and apps then most have.
