MIUI 1.9.2 MMS port? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just been extremely curious if it'd be possible to bring the application over. Not the Pop up for messages as that's part of MIUI's framework, but just the look and feel of the app.

Question for ROM Devs

I hate the stock messaging app. I don't really like Handcent, except that it has the "Iphone" look and makes text conversations go side to side. Is it difficult to drop another messaging app in as the stock messaging app? I would love to see more ROMs(mostly Ava because that is what I generally run) use another messaging app. Thanks for your time.

No its not hard. Thats why the rom devs don't do it. It lets everyone go choose what app they would like. Also some of the sms apps require the original messaging to still be installed... which makes it harder.
I would try go sms. LOTS of themes, and options.

I did not know that some messaging apps require the stock messaging app. I would think that when you have to programs doing the same thing, the phone is not being as efficient as possible. How can someone replace the stock messaging app with a new one? I don't want to use an app in conjunction with another app and disable the original, I want to get rid of the original.
Two ways....
Either break open the rom and delete out the apps you don't want before flashing. Or, install app you want then go in and delete (not disable) the original app using appropriate file manager program.

touchwiz 4 modifications

hello everyone
i am still in decision on what to use as my launcher
i like tw4 but i use handcent and not the stock messaging app.
ive replaced the stock messaging app in the dock and i have also switched all the notifications off for the messaging app but i still get the notification on the icon in the applications list saying i have 1 unread message. the only way i can get that off is by clicking on the stock messaging app and viewing the message... this is really annoying as i would have to check it twice.
is there a fix for this?
i would also like to know which launcher is lighter and takes less ram.
all help is much appreciated
kind regards

MIUI Sense 3.0 Lockscreen

I did some digging around and found the lockscreen for MIUI. It's buried in the online lockscreens somewhere. Anyhow, you cannot customize the apps that show on it. You get: Dialer, Music, Camera, and Messages.
I figured out a little tiny workaround that doesn't require any programming knowledge. If you have a replacement app for any of those programs (for example, I use ChompSMS instead). Just download your new app, and don't open it. Lock your phone, and drag the messaging icon to the Sense circle. The phone will unlock, and ask you what app you want to use. Set ChompSMS as your default app, and the icon will open it from lockscreen.

[Q] Customize SMS/MMS?

New to this phone and while I enjoy the stock rom, I am growing tired of the cartoony bubbles for MMS/SMS messages. Short of flashing a custom ROM, is there any way to turn that nonsense off?
XD-Android's messaging was a nice and clean threaded text display.
The easiest way to customize your messaging is to download a messaging app. GO SMS and Handcent are the most popular ones that I have been hearing about. With either of these apps (and many other messaging apps out there) you can theme the interface quite extensively. Good luck out there!

making the phone dial by moving it up to ear with other apps

I was wondering if anyone changed their SMS/text messaging app. I know that with the preloaded samsung text messaging app when I'm in the convo I can bring it up to my ear and it starts dialing. I honestly love this feature as I can tired of texting a lot and then I just called the person up if the texting gets too long. However, I'd like to use an alternative SMS app because the default one to me is extremely ugly. I hate looking at it a lot. So I was hoping to use something like chomp or panzi or something with a better looking theme and better support for emoji with my friends are relentless and not giving it up. So Does anyone have any ideas on keeping this feature? Any sms apps that work with this? I know it's a throw in the dark but what the heck. Thought I'd ask anyway.

The motion features, like the one your talking about are cool, but alas they seem to only work within the stock applications. I personally use GoSMS and I can not lift the handset to my ear and it call the contact unless I use the default messaging app (I switched mainly because of the way it slideshows any MMS - very stupid)
Another feature is the double tap the top of the phone to go back to the top of the page, but I use enhanced email (not the default email apps) and that feature doesnt work either.
If anyone finds a way to merge the motion features with 3rd party sms apps, I'd be interested.

Shucks, I feel the same way. The motion features are great but these default apps stink! lol. I prefer the alternatives way more. sigh.
