I have been dealing with verizon tech support on my phone a ton lately. Can they tell over the cell signal if the phone is son/soff or rooted/unrooted. I'd like to be son and 7.01 radio but incrom is tons better than unrooted
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
That I know of they can't, what problems are you dealing with on your phone that you need to call them? the reason I ask is because they might be rom specific problems
Well, since new on any extended network areas, data and incoming calls are fine. Calling out I get a prerecorded message saying Please reenter the 10 digit number you are trying to dial, do not hit send. Sometimes that work maybe 50/50. They warrantied the phone about 2 weeks ago, same thing. Last night on the phone they offered me a $100 trade in credit on my inc for any recertified phone.... but its droidx, droid pro, or samsung fascinate. I'm not impressed with any of em. Been tons of roms and the 7.28, 9.01. and 11.XX radio, all the same. Verizon TS from a payphone last night couldn't even see my phone on the network, but they swear theres nothing wrong. i was temptedn, but root the dtock rom so I can switch back and forth as needed.
Sorry to hear, I hope everything works out great. I guess to see if their suggestions work maybe you can try returning your phone back to stock, I don't think it would hurt.
I hope it does too, but this has been ongoing since we got the incredibles when they first came out... VERY frustrating
wow, i really wonder how much their tech department really knows, seems like they have many problems they can not figure out. my wife and i just got two dinc's through verizon about 3 months ago, mine is fine and have had zero issues, but my wife's is a whole different story.
notice hers would stop getting text and phone calls a few times a day. we would be in the middle of a conversation(text that is) and she would just stop receiving my texts, i would still get hers, and i would try and call and it would ring normally on my end and go to her voice mail. She would not be getting anything on her end, until sometime later they would all flood in at once.
well this was happening almost from day one, her phone was stock, then i rooted it and tried different roms and kernels and still same issue. well i have called verizon and talked to techs on at least 5 different occasions, and they have completely replaced her phone with a newer Dinc, yet same problem persist! it is in my opinion that the problem would have to be on their end of it,since two phones in a row are doing this, and mine on the same account in the same area does not do it. i am getting ready to call again today when my wife gets home from work, oh yea it sunday not sure if they in so maybe tomorrow. but this is ridiculousness, they just keep having me go through settings and resetting phone to factory and all that, i just can not see it being the phone at this point, but they are convinced it is.
Tech support level 2 has the network team looking at my call log. They are supposed to call me Mon. evening to let me know the results. They also offered me a hundred dollar credit on any recertified phone. I'm just not impressed with any of those phones.

Ok, sort of decided to try a different phone. Any opinions of droid x, the fascinate, about any non htc phones would be nice. Leaning towards the X since it seems to have a huge dev base here also.

The moto phones have locked bootloaders meaning limited customization if that's an issue for you.

Having "friends" that work for VZW, I really don't think 1st level support can look and see if you are rooted or not. I do, however, think that level "3" and up support can tell. I know they have the means in place to start monitoring what phones receive updates and what phones do not update. I also don't think they are going to worry about the DIncs, but they may focus more of the newer 4G phones that have been rooted.
OK, verizon is insane. They are under the impression I'm trading in my inc under their advice for 100 bux towards another model phone at full retail price. That is SO not happening. I did find this thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ne-can-help-me-reprogram-a-flashed-Incredible
last night. If that information is correct for the settings I think thats at least part of my issues. Can anyone confirm those are correct? My wife is about 800 miles from me with her inc for me to just look and see. US Cellular is sounding more and more inviting this week.
Talked to a person at home last night on craigslist. Wants to swap his 6 week old droid X for my incredible. Verizon didn't care but said it wouldn't be insurable. Assurion said sure no problem. I love consistently wrong answers
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
And has anybody here had experience swapping? Besides phone condition and bad ESN anything to be on the lookout for?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I bought my Incredible used, then sold my D2. Motorola build quality is good but I had their UI and locked bootloaders. As far as I know, when you get a used phone, you don't get the manufacturer's warranty but you should be able to insure it. Condition and ESN/MEID are the main things to look out for.

Have traded before without issue. Good luck!!
Talked to Verizon to make sure it was acceptable with them. Now they tell me if the trouble tickets are not cleared and the problem fixed by next Friday their policy is to replace my incredible with a similar value model. Some 2 week ticket policy nonsense. I really wish they could make up their collective minds. Person I'm swapping with did not mind waiting till next weekend, especially since if verizon tech support does not come through, I'll take the inc to the local stroe, swap it for a cpo one, then swap that for the droid X. I still have ZERO confidence its going to affect my problem is the sad part
well finaly my wifes phone is fixed, she is now receiving text all the time and on time.
here is the kicker, several tech support calls ago i asked the tech if changing phone mumber might work, considering they had already replace phone and problem did not go away, and i figured if it was account settings then it should effect my phone as well. so finaly i talked my wife into changing phone number, kinda of last resorte for her, well finaly she listened to me and it has almost been a week and no missed calls or texts, before it was happening seveal times a day, very very anoying!! but it is all good now.
so yeah, only had the thing since this past thursday and now it's gone. i have no idea where i could have left it and had been out & about today going all over the place. i ended up filing a claim($99.. wee!) and am supposed to be getting a new one tomorrow.
the funny thing to is that the last time i had insurance was like 5 - 6 years ago when i had the first RAZR on Verizon and never used it so had cancelled it way back then. when i got this Nexus on thursday i thought to myself "hmm.. well, maybe i should..."
and yes, i've tried to think of the last place i had it & back tracked the past few hours and no luck.
well, if it ended up with anyone else have fun with your bad ESN Nexus!

WTH !!!
how can you lose a brand new phone ?
try using the GPS locator
did you enable your google locator in Maps?
i believe there was a phone locator app that could be installed remotely but i do not remember the name.

oh and about that text thing rcfcyl, is that the only option?... i ask because i have Verizon completely block text messaging on my phone(i don't use txt at all) + always root & delete the messaging apps.
I think there's a web interface as well but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Something smells fishy about this....
You "lost" your phone not long after you "dropped" it. You havnt tried the plan b app which people are telling you to do. Instead u say u asked ur service provider to block all messeging and u say u removed the stock messaging apps....
Shouts insurance scam to me mate..... ide be trying everything to locate my phone. I think you know what happend to it.

i had Verizon start blocking txt msg's last March when i got the Thunderbolt(never ever used txt msg'ing nor cared for it and had heard about people getting txt spam & didn't want to get any txt charges coming through for whatever reason).
as for 'plan b', yeah i hear about that now after i started this thread...(and upon hearing about it and the way it works via 'txt' had asked if there was an alternate way to protect/locate a phone)
and dropping, i guess i'm clumsy with phones. i dropped my thunderbolt like 3 - 4 times, dropped my incredible 2 once and again this time with the nexus. at least with the TB i learned and got a sturdy case for it.. haven't gotten around to doing so with the nexus yet.
but you're welcome to believe what you wish.

As of now I'm on my 4th Gnexus and once again I'm being plagued with the same issue I have since my first one back on launch day. Loss of voice during a call, high pitch noises, (think scratching on a chalk board) loss of sound on all key press as well as numbers when dialing.
I have called about this issue. First time around Verizon said take it back get a new one. So I did that and so on happened 2 more times same issue same results. Now on my 4th one its starting again. So verizon said it was Samsung and Samsung said Verizon.
So I was hoping for some input on what direction I should go now.

This is an obvious case of user-error. The odds of getting a defunct phone that many times in a row is about like winning the lottery, literally.

when you said high pitch noises, do you mean that during a call you can hear a buzzing sort of noise when people speak? I get that on my nexus too, it's slightly irritating but I'll live with it, better than spending time to unroot it, go back to stock and then waste a whole week in the service centre.

It's obviously not user error.. If you read a bit you'd see there is a very lengthy thread about this very issue.. It's called microphone cutting out during call or something like that.. You can replace your phone as much as you want, it's not going to change it. the cause is unknown but I believe they have at least determined it not to be hardware..

That is correct. Audio outbound gets garbled and then lost completely. This is the worst bug of this phone. I can't count how many phone calls where I'd have to hang up and redial because the other person couldn't hear me anymore.

I'd blame the carrier, as i'm on Orange UK, and I use T-Mobile UK as well, and call quality both ends, is excellent
Your wife may not have the issue but are y'all talking on the same tower when the issue arises? I'm on Verizon as well and never had this problem. That said, I don't talk a lot, maybe 400 minutes a month - mostly to my boss that has an iPhone so half the time I can't hear crap anyway due to that fact.
I will say, as a recent T-Mobile transplant that has used Verizon off and on for several years with work phones, Verizon doesn't seem to have the same call quality in general terms. Maybe it's just my ear, but even back in the day I owned some Motorola claim shells that sounded pretty muddy.
Have you tried to replicate the problem on a completely stock phone with no 3rd party apps? I wonder if there's a conflict somewhere.

I pretty much tried everything. New sim cards, using it with nothing installed (stock) I'm super bummed I been waiting on a nexus device to hit Verizon for a while now. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to put up with this.
What about rolling back onto 3G? Are you on the fringe of LTE connectivity at all?
I know a lot of people talk about call quality. Frankly, I haven't experienced any issues and no one has told me that it sounds like crap (and believe me, I have friends that would mention it, we're a HARSH bunch). I don't doubt they exist, and you certainly don't sound like 3/4ths of XDA that are overly dramatic whiners. Out of curiosity, roughly how many minutes a month do you talk? Any chance that it's just an issue where, well you know, the more you do something the more opportunity to experience something that goes wrong? I used to talk a ton for work, like 3000+ minutes a month. I had a lot more dropped calls then than now, know what I mean?
You know what I'd do, which Verizon would HATE but, hey, you are the customer. I'd take you and your wife's phone into Verizon, and have them flip the numbers around. Keep EVERYTHING else about the phones the same. Her apps stay, your apps stay, just swap the numbers around and try her phone with your regular use for maybe 3 or 4 days. If you can replicate the problem while she doesn't experience the issue at all on your phone, then you can probably narrow it down to either the tower your on, or maybe the phone really is just buggy after you've been on it for a while.
Every so often I'll have a long conversation and a call gets dropped, but I've never not been able to hear someone or them not be able to hear me. Like, they're the typical issues that you could assign to either being a tower pass off problem or the nature of LTE long before the phone (on either my end or the other person's end). But, like I said, that's a rare occurrence for me.
What version of ICS are you running? I had this same problem, specifically and most frequently the one where the audio cuts out of a call, sometimes it'd do it and force me to re-call my girlfriend as many as 3 or 4 times in an hour.
What fixed it was flashing ICS 4.0.4 released from Google themselves (if I waited for Verizon to do it I'd probably be single by now). This fixed it for me immediately right out of the gate. I've had the other issues you spoke of every so often but the audio cut out was constant. This fixed everything. Been running for a while without problems (month or so maybe?).
Eh...you didn't flash it straight from Google. At best, you flashed it straight from the Verizon/Google ota server the test ota is on
I stand corrected, this is what I get when trying to post while on hold at work. Not straight from Google, leaked 4.0.4. Originally found it elsewhere linked to a google domain site, but it's best served up here.

Did not fix the microphone going out issue for me :-( I just flashed the 4.0.4 leak on Tuesday hoping it would alleviate this problem, but I had the mic go out about 15 mins into a call last night. Same story as with stock, had to hang up and re-dial to continue the conversation.
Does anyone else have this issue where data seems to hang and stop working?? Whenever this happens I noticed that the up arrow on the 4g symbol on the notification bar is always green. Also nothing data related loads at all. Web, apps like Facebook and twitter, etc... I'm assuming that the up arrow thing means that something is being uploaded but sometimes it lasts a minute, others it lasts for five or ten. Really annoying. This has happened on all my phones. It's a network issue, only solution at this time if to switch service.
I'm just sayin!
I have the same problem in the Phoenix - Metro area. I've seen that taking the battery out will fix it, but it takes forever to boot, at least it feels this way since it usually happens when I need to connect for something.
Otherwise usually waiting a few seconds and trying again works too.
Its a real pain. I had Sprint before and I didn't have this kind of issues.
Its a known issue. Ive read a ton of threads on it No fix that Im aware of. Its not your phone, its TMo.
I am new to T-mobile and was thinking that i am the only one facing this problem
Called the T-mobile 4 times already and every time they just create a case but never resolve the issue. But now i guess they are already aware of their creepy network but are out of budget to repair the issue

Rarely I have issues with signal freezes and hangs usually seems to come and go. Mostly just putting the phone in and out of airplane mode should reset connection (hold in power button until prompt appears, if phone shuts down with no menu first you need to reflash mine came from TMobile like that use kies to reflash stock phone). If using custom ROM with power options a hot reboot should be most that is needed. If not regular restart should work.
I have found when I get general issues I may not have a fix for I format my cache, my dalvick cache, then run fix permissions and restart. In more stubborn issues try re-flashing your ROM after formatting data and system partitions and clearing cache same as above (make sure to download ROM zips via wifi or transfer via USB from your computer. Zips downloaded this way are less prone to having error correction mistakes during transfer).
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR OWN PERSONAL DEVICE. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS RUN A FULL NANDROID BACKUP.

I thought it was certain apps at first. It always seemed to happen when I was using the Facebook app so I uninstalled it and that seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks... But now that I know other people have the same problem I blame T-Mobile instead of my apps lol
I don't know why everyone keeps saying it's Tmobile.. I have had 10 different smartphones on tmobile since the g1, and this is the first time I have ever experienced this. I'm thinking it's something to do with the phone.. Could be hardware, could be software..

I know for a fact that I first stumbled upon this issue a couple years ago when the Nexus S first launched. During that period, approximately a week before the Nexus was released, I purchased the HTC g2. I played with the g2 up to the release of the Nexus S. During my hands on with the g2, I ran into this same issue often, while surfing or using the phone after not having used it for a certain amount of time, where the"4g" icon would be displayed and the up arrow would be highlighted, while occasionally the down arrow would blink, signifying data communication. After a short while, the page wouldn't load and an error page would show. The Only way I would be able to remedy the problem is to reboot phone, or to switch flight mode on/off. At first I thought it was just the g2, but when I experienced this same identical issue after purchasing the Nexus S, I knew it couldn't be on the hardware side.

Crazy, maybe I've just never noticed it before.. I've always been a heavy user, so it's hard to believe I would have not noticed, but it sounds like that is the case. Tmobile needs to figure it out!

Yea you just haven't noticed it. I had a G1 then a G2 and then this phone....I can't remember far back enough for the G1 (March 2009) but I know my G2 did it. (Jan 2011)

I had this issue too. I have no idea what the cause is but the fix is pretty simple. Go to wireless settings. Then mobile networks and set type to wcdma only.

Has anyone tried changing the DNS? I've been thinking about doing so with "Set DNS" from Google Play.

Galaxy S 4G
This happens on my wife's Galaxy S 4G sometimes - but usually only in areas that have weak signal. It will show that 4G is available and 3 bars or so but won't download anything.
Walk a little further and it starts up again.
My sister and I were just discussing on the issue of tapping a cell phone call. I couldn't really pick a perfect sub-forum for this question i just know there is an abundance of talented knowing members in our forum. my question is does anyone know if it is possible/legal for local police city/sheriff to listen in on our cell phone calls? i was always under the impression that a few requirements had to be met to "tap" a cellular conversation. those being 1.) only the fbi/cia could do it. 2.) it could only be for international calls. 3.) the internatioal call had to be suspected terrorist activity. Now i could be way off. If anyone has any info on this subject that would be great.

Lol are you doing things that r illegal? It is illegal to an extent.. im sure if they have a search warrant or you are part of an investigation they can obtain phone records from the carrier and even message detail up to so many days back (only stays in system so long) but they are not allowed to tap your phone without probable cause to do so.. and im sure the police cant monitor your calls unless your on the phone with the police.. but look at all your murder investigations, calls you hear were all mostly calls to the police operator that you hear because tapping somones calls for no reason is illegal.. if you are a known terrorist they can tap your phone because you are a risk to national security but if they are tappin it thats all there doing and when they act on it, you dont hear anything about tapping just that they foiled the plot lol.. all in all, if they do tap your phone its somewhat illegal and you will never know.. we do know they have the ability and surely do.. but i wouldnt worry unless your doin somthing highly illegal, doubt theyd care about a small fry like somone on xda lol

appreciate your reply very much. i thought for sure that question would have started a frenzy of replies. nah i'm not doing anything illegal, that i know of lol. i can just recall this conversation coming up multiple times in the past ten years and all my less techy friends are always "dude ur f'n crazy if u dont think all cops can tap cell conversations" as where i stand strong on the criteria that i mentioned in my first post be met to have cell tapping as an option. i can argue with them till im blue in the face but its always "no way dude" lol. i do thank you for pretty much confirming my thoughts to an extent.

There is lots of stuff about this online, here is some reading for you http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/intel/98-326.pdf
Then there are the conspiracy theorists who espouse the idea that certain keywords used in a conversation trigger actual eavesdropping.
Considering how disappointed people are with Siri and how poorly Samsung's Voice Command works for me. I think it's just a theory.
