[Q] Ginger Villain - Problems with calendar and sms - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
sorry if I misplaced the thread but the ten post rule won't let me post in the official Ginger Villain thread.
I'm running GV 2.8 (plus 2.8 HAVS + CFS kernel) on a rooted htc desire, I'm loving this rom but I'm also experiencing a couple of issues.
First of all: when in day view, the stock calendar isn't showing event names for ten days after today. this happens only for full-day events and not for time limited events. I can see the colored bars showing event names for today, but if I slide to tomorrow - and the days after - all I get are the colored bars with no text.
second, but far less annoying: I'm using GO sms pro instead of stock sms app, and each time I reboot I keep receiving status bar notifications for sms I have already read. I tried uninstalling GO sms and the problem disappeared, but it started again as soon as I installed it back.
any help or suggestion? thanks in advance.

[Q] Unread mail notification on home screen

Hello,
I suspect this is a ROM specific question but I'll check here anyway. I've done a search and have been unable to locate this specific issue for the Desire HD.
I rooted and continued to use stock 1.32 until recently installing LeeDroid's new ROM and kernel. Since then, the HTC mail app no longer displays the amount of unread mails in the green circle on the home screen.
I'll probably post ten times then ask on the LeeDroid thread but thought I'd check here first.
Thanks in advance.

It may well be a ROM issue, but just in case... if you go to Settings > Accounts & Settings, what is the sync interval you have selected for your mail account? For example, if it is set to sync automatically every hour, you will not get a new notification until the sync has happened. After this you will see the number of unread mails in the green bubble. You can set the sync intervals to whatever frequency you like - from push (instant) to 24 hourly.
If however the mail has actually arrived on your phone but does not show up as a notification, then I do not know why.
Thanks for your response but I'm afraid it's not a sync interval issue.
I have sync set for every four hours during peak and off-peak times. I have several unread mails which I have not opened in a number of accounts. They show when I enter the app but fail to show on the home screen.
No worries, I'll just ask in the ROM thread.
The number of unread emails should come up in your notifications bar . And indeed the number @ mail app isn't working for me either, but I use the mail widget which is very handy.
Is that with a custom ROM?
I would use the widget but I've no space left (you know how it is when you've filled the home screens just how you like them).

[Q] Unread count on icons? (Gingerbread)

Hi all,
I noticed now in Gingerbread the sms and htc mail icons no longer hold their unread count display after opening and closing the app (without reading the messages/mails). Is there a mod anywhere to change it to how it was in Froyo? Ie always display unread count apart from zero...
Cheers.
No one else having this issue?
I found that SMS Unread can replace the SMS widget ico - the icon is not the correct size tho. Displays the unread permanantly tho.
Can't find a workaround for the HTC Mail tho. What with this and the fact that Exchange Sync syncs non-stop with Gmail in the HTC Mail app. Bit annoying.
that's one annoyance with the gingerbread update ... really wish it would show the actual unread count not just the unread count since the last time you went into the app.
I have the same issue.. Very anoying indeed!
Anyone ever figure anything out on this one. Just gone to Gingerbread on Desire, and it is somewhat annoying.
Never got it figured. it was too annoying so i went back to froyo, which i'm very happy with. a friend of mine just got a Sensation. it has the same problem. crazy.

How did you downgrade to Froyo?
I'm planning to do that same and unable to figure out how... The only reason is unread count not getting display in the mail app....
-PretoriaZ.
i flashed leedroid's froyo rom 2.29. very happy.

[Q] Whatsapp & htcsense.com won't push!

Hey you guys!
Ik hope this is the right topic to post in, since it's about an app, but about the DHD as well.
For about a week now whatsapp wont push my messages forward to a notification.
When i recieve a message i will only get notified when i open up the whatsapp main screen (like it has to load the new messages instead of pushing it right away). This ofcourse takes all the functionality out of the app!
Anyone here got the same problem? my buddies (none of them on DHD) have no problems what so ever, except when they try to reach me. Altough, 1 friend of mine has the exact same problem (running DHD ROM on HD2) another friend of mine (with the exact same software setup on HD2 as well) has no problems.
Also, htcsense.com can no longer reach my phone to ring or block the device.
-stock DHD on 2.3
-most recent version of whatsapp
-doesnt matter if 3g or Wifi
-tried reinstalling the program
-htcsense.com apparantly "Can't connect to phone"
any you guys have suggestions?
You aren't running a task manager app are you?, in my experience HTCsense.com would work intermittently at best anyway, but no problems with Whattsapp notifications here but I am running CM7
yes im running SystemPanel 1.0.9.
But im using this task manager for months now and until now there were no problems at all, the task assigned to whatsapp is excluded from the kill list

TASK MANAGERS ARE EVIL REMOVE IT NOW AND YOUR LIFE WILL BE BETTER, don't just take my word for it try some of these sources for size Phandroid, Androidspin, Infoworld, Lifehacker and Androinica. As Cyanogen himself says remove your task manager and reproduce the bug and we'll see what we can do.
Got the same problem with htcsense. Can't lock or locate my phone or let it ring. No problems with whatsapp, thats working fine. Also on a stockrom 2.3.3 on a Desire HD
Erik
I don't use htcsense.com, but I use SystemPanel (with Whatsapp excluded), and whatsapp works perfectly without exception: I receive audio notification when the phone is inactive, and the messages pop up in front of the lockscreen.
(stock rooted Froyo, eng & S-off)
I have heard a lot about htcsense.com, hence I don't use it... but Whatsapp is very stable for me. Could be a combination of ROM/other apps, but in principle I'd look at htcsense.com
I had these problems when I got my DHD. For me everything went fine after I:
-Created a new Sense Account
-Settings --> Location --> Tick Phonefinder and turn gps on
-Settings-->Accounts &b Sync --> Click on "HTC Sense" and Set the update schedule on "As items change (push)"
-In case its not there just try to download an additional wallpaper and log on with your sense account.
After that you go again to htcsense.com
Log in and then locate your phone.
Now you should see the GPS icon in your phones statusbar...
Now go outside an make sure you find GPS signal.
many thanks for the responses! I have found a few more things that could maybe help us crack this case.
When im in the whatsapp client, it shows the status of recepient (online, typing etc.) as "online" or "last seen at xx:xxu" in wich xx:xx is often after i sent the message.
In short: there is traffic going on between me, the server and the recepient even though messages i sent won't pop on their screens, and theirs not on mine.
(classic case of not enough internetz?)
Also, removing the task manager had no result!

[Q] Not getting notifications on apps with "Push" notifications..

Hey there,
I've ran a few ROMs recently and noticed that all of my apps that are supposed to have "push" notifications enabled are not notifying me in real time, it seems to work hit and miss on all ROMs I've tried, it doesn't work better on any one particular ROM. (I've tested it on MIUI, MikG 2.3, Synergy, Fresh 4.2, MikFroyo 4.62)
For example GoWalla and HeyTell are two apps that are supposed to support push notifications, but it is hit and miss whether or not I get a real time notification. With HeyTell I'll go into the app and send off a message then continue to use my phone and after 20 or 30 minutes I'll go back into HeyTell and then I get a notification about an incoming message, but the timestamp on the message is from 15 to 20 minutes ago. Other times I'll be using my phone and get a notification and go into the app and the timestamp on the message is current (so it works as it should). Same with GoWalla. Is there some way to ensure that an app is always running in the background so push notifications will work?
Thanks in advance..

Optimized Shift v2.4 - Text Message timestamps wrong

Hey all,
I don't have enough posts to post this in the developer section so I'm hoping I can find an answer here.
I finally convinced my fiancee to let me upgrade her Dinc to a custom gingerbread rom. She was on the original Dinc froyo, but rooted with all the bloat removed.
Anyway, I searched around and decided to go with MikRoms Optimized Shift. It appeared to have the stability that I wanted her to have, plus the added functionality of gb and the newer version of Sense. I can honestly say I am impressed. This rom is awesome. Fast, stable and very smooth.
The only issue that I've found (that she noticed right away, and was p.o.'d about) was that her text messages were getting the wrong timestamps. She's like "Thanks for the upgrade...not!" We live on the east coast (DC area), but our phone service (and original numbers) are originally from the west coast (WA state). All of her incoming text messages show as west coast time, exactly 3 hours behind. Her outgoing text messages show as east coast time, as they should. What this does is screw up the chronological order of her text messages, and she has to go searching through her messages to find the latest text.
I updated her roaming and reprogrammed the phone but neither helped. I decided to download SMS Time Fix from the market and that instantly fixed the issue, which is great, she's happy. My question is, is there a way to fix this issues without the need for the SMS Time Fix app? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Side Note: I have her running the default kernel that came with the rom and it seems okay so far. On her stock sense rom I had her running HeyItsLou and the battery life was amazing. Is there a recommended kernel for this rom?
Thanks again.
