Hi guys,
i just tried to get root acces on my HTC desire and everything went fine, after the step to update from sdcard i choose reboot and now it wont start-up anymore.
I see a while the HTC logo and then "HTC quitly briliant" and that keeps comming...
Do you guys know how to fix that?
sorry for my language im from holland
Thnx,
Martijn
Did you choose the option to Wipe (factory reset and caches) while in Recovery Mode?
Also, if your rom has the legacy A2SD version integrated, did you partition your SD card correctly?
Do not let it bootloop as this can cause the USB brick issue.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
nope i didnt do that
Wipe in recovery, partition SD card if necessary, and it should work for you next time.
If you are using the r5 guide, just launch from step2 to get into Recovery Mode.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i also saw in the display a HTC telephone with a red triangle and exclamation mark, dont know that that means...
Also thnx for your really fast answers!!!!! +10 for you
I am assuming that you are using Benko's guide?
Yes, that is the Recovery screen (phone with red triangle). To get into actual Recovery Mode, you must launch the step2 procedure to get to this mode (green menu screen with options).

ok, im now in the recovery mode (with the green option). And i'm in the whipe menu. Which option do i need to chose? And after that i need to aply the rootedupdate.zip, right?
Yup, great. Now choose Wipe -> Factory Reset.
Again Wipe -> cache.
Again Wipe -> Dalvik cache.
Then flash the rom zip.
Do you need to partition your sd card too?

Leave that out for now then
After flash, reboot the phone.

oh my god. it works again. Sir you're amazing ! thnx thnx thnx
No problem buddy. It was because you did not wipe (factory reset). The rom you now have installed is a generic rom.
I suggest you use Rom Manager app (from Marketplace) with a custom recovery image (ClockworkMod) to flash other roms in the future.
Regards,
Mas.

can i use that APP to flash my device to the custom rom: DeFroST2.1?
At the page of the defrost rom it says i also need to flash a radio and a kernel for overclocking. How to fix that?
Yep, you can use ROM Manager to flash any rom. To change your kernel version, simply flash the zip's using ROM Manager after placing the files to the root if your SD card.
You must install a custom recovery image in ROM Manager beforehand. See the Fake-Flash link in my sig below for more information.

Hello,
at the moment i use the Rom [ROM][23/12/11][2.1+3.0] RevolutioN v3.0 [Fast|Stable|Clean|Beautiful|A2SD+] an i have a problem with my wiofi connection it freezes after round about 15 minutes , i tried to install the wifi n update-2.6.35.14-snq-111011 via recovery but i wasnt able to install it, i just coulndt choose it at recovery to begin with?
Can someone help me? ( Itried already in the rom Thread)?
Greetz Neewes
wifi n from snq is just update of his kernel... you need to flash kernel first...
wipe dalvik and cache...
you could not find it in recovery or whole sdcard did not mount?
post info from your fastboot... it will help us to help quicker
No need to wipe cache and dalvik. Kernels can be installed without wiping anything ! Just install the zip through recovery and all is fine !

Hi all,
I'm not able to let the GPS work with CM 7.1 Stable.
Here's my story:
I had CM 7.1 fully working, about 3 weeks ago.
I had battery issues then and I tried to upgrade to CM 7.2 RC1, but I did not test the GPS.
As battery charging issues still raised, I had to bring my mobile to HTC restoring to the stock ROM.
Once battery was fixed, I restored the backup with CM 7.2 RC1 and discovered that GPS was not working.
I read some posts here to downgrade CWM to 2.5.x and flash an older radio. I tried that and installed GPS Test with no luck. I re-flashed latest radio with no luck. I found a post telling to re-flash gapps, but not working.
As last step I formatted system, cache, data and installed CM 7.1 stable version, re-flashed latest radio, but GPS is still not working.
Do you have any idea of how I can fix it?
Thanks.
Try fastboot method for flashing radio. For some reason cwm method never worked for me.
Edit: Alternatively you can flash older radio. Just remember to check the radio version changes in your settings or not.

Thanks. I'll try that. What do you mean to check radio changes?
Try in settings/about phone and look for baseband version I think, it will most likely end in 20.10 and that's the most recent radio version.
The version before it ends with 19.25 (I think, it's been a while since I needed to flash the radio)
By "radio changes" he means check the version before flashing and after to be sure it flashed correctly.

Ah, ok. I always check after flashing and everytime I flash I get correct version in settings

Is there any log file I can check why GPS is not working?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA
It's not working because of the radio, it's an old bug. Something seems to stick in the radio partition when flashing cm7.
Another method that works is to flash any sense rom that has gps working, download Google maps, go outside and let Google maps get a good fix on your position then without touching any settings power off and flash cm7 again or restore a nandroid.
The log is called a logcat, either type adb logcat into a command prompt or Google qtadb for another method I know nothing about.

So, is any sense ROM valid? Should I wipe/format anything before or after flashing ROM or restoring my backup?
Thanks.
Ideally you should wipe system and data before flashing any rom.
There are a few sense roms available here like kwbr, rempuzzle (requires sd-ext) and older ones like jokerdroid. Alternatively you can flash a safe zip of stock rom. You can find all this info and related in the wildfire index in the development section.

Any sense rom with known working GPS, rempuzzle will work fine.
Wipe data,cache and dalvik cache.
Flash sense rom.
Download/open Google maps then let it get a good fix on your position.
Pop out the battery and reboot to recovery.
Wipe data,cache and dalvik cache.
Flash cm7 again.
All should be fine then. I've used all 3 of the methods for fixing the gps and have found flashing the radio by cwm method the most unreliable, fast boot and using the sense way seems to work everytime.

Hi all,
I confirm that everything is fully working, by flashing kwbr ROM, running GPS and restoring my CM7 backup.
that seems a little bit weird, but thanks for your support, really.
It's because the radio partition is separate to the rest, it can't be wiped like the others and a particular setting seems to stick which is incompatible with cm7. I think. Anyway glad you got it working mate! Enjoy.

That method didn't work for me.
I flashed Rempuzzle, then launched Google Maps, but nothing happened. So I decided to downgrade radio using the method described in the Wildfire index. Launched Maps and... TaDa! GPS was working. Then installed aGPS patch by crypted and now is running like hell.
Hope this helps.
Had the same problem. Reflashed radio and it works like a charm. Thanks guys.
okay i want all the experienced people on this forum to help me with this thing and i hope a lot of people would get help with this post
i am using HTC DESIRE HD on it's stock firmware that is 2.3.5 and htc sense 3.0, to start flashing a custom rom (cyanogen 7.2 as an example) i have to follow the following steps (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG)
1) i have to root my device using the AAHK (link: http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=74)
2) then to back up my contacts i have to use SMSbackup (which is available on the android market), have a backup on the sdcard and copy it to ur device
3) now i have to download the custom rom (cyanogen 7.2) (link: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=ace)
4) now i have rooted my device and i will copy this rom in .zip format into my sdcard and go into the recovery mode by turning off the phone and then holding power and volume down button
5) i have to backup my existing rom by running a nandroid backup in the backup/restore (it's visible in the recovery mode)
6) once the back up is done i'll have to formate my sdcard and format the cache
7) then i have to select the "flash .zip file from sdcard" and i am done
please tell me if this process is alright or is there anything that i am missing
secondly is there any way through which i can save my apps?
last but not the least, if i wanna flash this kernal (http://blackice.omca.co.uk/download/...7-2WCR-TUN.zip) what do i have to do?
POINT ADDED: IF U ARE USING ANDROID 2.3.5 AND SENSE 3.0 THEN U HAVE TO DOWNGRADE TO THE PRIOR VERSION OF SENSE I.E 2.1, HOW DO I DOWNGRADE USING THE AAHK kit? PLEASE HIGHLIGHT THIS
The steps are correct. Except at step 6 you wipe all partions except SD card (called superwipe).
And your appdata will be automatically restored whenever you reinstall a app if you got your phone synced to your Google account.
And you flash the kernel as you flash a Rom but you only wipe dalvik and cache.

Which recovery do you use? And superwipe doesn't wipe ad card.
I'm not sure but try to sync all. Otherwise you could try titanium backup. Never used it but I have heard its good for saving appdata.

Titanium backup works great. It restores all non system apps and data, everything works great except (in my case Viber, it crashes and I have to re activate account after each flash).
I'd also have a question on flashing kernels. I have flashed 5-6 different ROMs but never a kernel (It is possible that these ROMS had other kernels but I'm not sure):
1) do I flash kernel BEFORE or PRIOR to new ROM? (or it doesn't matter)
2) if iI fo superwipe script from android revolution, can I then flash ROM and KERNEL one after another? (no need to wipe dalvik again)
D.

just a small note which is written on the AAHK manual and Thread but to make sure u notice it is that don't downgrade tooooooo much "I.E 2.1"
if u want to downgrade so u can root... u either let the AAHK do the downgrade for u or u do it your self either ways u musn't get lower than 2.3.3 so u wont get in kernal problems "which i once got, and god it was BAD".
good luck

They are, just read the thread, there were a few corrections.
Make sure to read the manual called 'effen manual' a few times for the hack kit.

Also, if you have your google account synced to your phone right now, it'll automatically restore contacts when you re-restore your Google account on the new ROM.
Sometimes android market/play store will automatically begin restoring apps by redownloading them (along with data) and some other things. If you prefer titanium, make sure that the play store isn't doing this by going to my apps. If your phone is running really laggy even after a minute or two after you set things up, chances are google play is redownloading all your old apps and chewing up your phone's hardware and data.

I Will Tell You My Steps >>How I Rooted My Device To Install Custom ROM<<
1) I had Downloaded free Sms BackUp And Apps BackUp from Play store.
2) Then I just Backup-ed all My Sms and Apps.
3) Then I went on my contact--> Manage Contacts --> Exported All My contacts from Google as well as from My Phone to my SD card.
4) For my safety purpose I then copied all my data from my memory card to my hard disk.
5) Then I used AAHK Tool:-
# What it did was just downgraded my Radio(Internet Required)
# Then Rooted my device-->Super CID-->BusyBox-->4EXT-->and so on...
DONE...
YOU ARE NOW READY TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROM
Hi people.
I was using rom manager for a long time now to backup restore my roms on DHD.
A few days before i try to backup my new rom Blackout ICS Incredible v3.0.0 and my phone freeze.
I went to recovery mode and fix it.
Is there any other app to backup my phone?
Also i notice rom manager update in store.Did they fix this issue ?
Cheers
Use 4ext recovery. It's much better than CWM. It doesn't support as many phones as CWM, but the DHD is one of the few it does. Also any backups you've made with CWM are fully compatible with 4ext. You can get the donation 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store which has a ton of other features apart from backing up and restoring. Alternatively, if you don't want to pay for the app, you can do everything directly in recovery too. The app is just a frontend to make it easier. Hardly anyone uses CWM + ROM Manager for the DHD anymore because this is better.
Instructions -
1) Go to www.4ext.net
2) Download 4ext Recovery Updater from there (free).
3) Run app and flash 4ext Touch Recovery from it. That's all. You can also just get the paid 4ext Recovery Control app from Play Store (worth it bigtime) and flash recovery from there instead of going to the website and doing all that I said above.

I Use 4EXT Recovery Updater And 4EXT Recovery Control. Its Really Good And User-friendly.
+1 for 4ext.
I never use rom manager - I've heard of too many problems
I use 4ext and I really like it. You may also try TWRP, which is also a touch recovery. However, it's a flashable zip so it may be easier for you to install compared the 4ext recovery updater package (probably not much, I'm just used to flashing a lot of ROMs).
I don't think TWRP is available for DHD, is it?

TWRP is available for DHD. I used it for awhile on my Inspire 4G, and it also works for DHD. However, I have had problems installing inspiremod for my Inspire 4G with it. It has Goomanager, which is nice. I use 4ext now though.
