[Q] Fastboot - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i'm rooted my arc (2.3.3) with gingerbreak, and i'm using many apps wich use root, but i tryied to flash galaxy s 2 theme, but when i try to enter on fastboot with windows, but when i do it says the device must be rooted first
Sorry for my english, What i can try to do ? There's another way to flash on Arc ?

Hey..
Have you rooted properly? Cos gingerbreak cannot root 2.3.3 directly (Read the Namaste guide)
fastboot is used to flash the ROMs.. Not for themes as far as i know.. Are you sure the theme's readme has instructions to do that?
To enable fastboot you have to unlock bootloader (Again Namaste guide)
Usually the theme makers give instructions on how to install their themes go through it carefully and maybe post a link to it here..

Sorry for my noob questions because i had x10, and on it we can use xrecovery easily than arc, the theme i tryied to install is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162548, and there's no instructions, i will check if gingerbreak was rooted properly my device. Thanks @GreyGhostRos

I think that theme isn't meant to be flashed with recovery..
If u extract the rar there's a .txt file in it..
There is a guide on methods of installing themes here at the forum (Don't remmebr where it is).. Search it..
Oh and don't forget to backup files, set permissions right, create a backup nandroid on sd card just in case etc.. General before u mess around things
Hope that helps ..

Thanks, i did it !!

[Q] I am new. I need help

I am new to this development thing. I need to understand a few things:
1: Unlock bootloader
2: Installing Custom Rom
3: Flashing stuff
1: I always search the web but i cant find an answer. Will unlocking my Xperia Arc S void my warrenty? If so is there a way to restore warranty by "Locking" my bootloader again?
2: I always wanted to install custom roms. I thought it would be easy like how i install roms on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Turns out its complicated. Flash here, flash there. I thought i just need to use CWM5 to install the .zip file. The Rom i want to install is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393738 (For My Arc S)
3: Flashing kernels. I see that in order to install the above ROM i need to flash DoomLord Kernels? But how? Im confused. Must i need to unlock my bootloader. I already have CWM5 on my Arc S.
Please reply to my question. I am new so if my thread has alreay been posted by someone i am truely sorry.
Thanks,
LeParkour012
Good morning....
1. Every answer your looking for is in the forum on XDA all of the answers
2. It is EASY you just need to read a bit more. CMW works to some extent on Xperia Arc...
3. You definitely need to have your BOOTLOADER unlocked to flash the kernel and custom rom
4. Any modification you do to the phone can void your warranty... it's AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Cheers.
???
Thanks. I finally understand it. May i ask? How is it to flash the rom i linked? Flash the kernels? Do i need the ADB thing?
I wouldn't especially flash that ROM it's in it's REALLY EARLY times (ALPHA). I'd consider just using stock for the moment until the ROM reaches it's beta phase. But that just my own opinion on the subject.
I wouldn't what is required for you to FLASH that specific ROM. My own bootloader can't be unlocked until I do a TEST POINT on it to get it unlocked. I'm actually quite happy with the Stock 2.3.4 .62 ROOTED firmware with no bloatware on it. Very fast and I can say I have a constant free 125mb of RAM available.
Most of my applications are installed to the SDcard.
Cheers.
Oh okay! Thanks for your help. I was actually scared of flashing the rom but now since you told me about the ALPHA thing i won't be flashing it. Thanks again!
How to Flash a new Kernel (DoomKernel)
Hello,
sorry for my possibly stupid question.
I´ve rootet my ARC S and want to install an new/other Kernel.
My favorite is the DooMKernel. Comes there a CWM-Version with the Kernel? And if yes, how to reach the Recovery-Menu. Has the DooM-Kernel switches for Wlan, Bluetooth, GPS, Date,.. in the Notification Bar?
I´m sorry i don´t find any step by step tutorial to install an other Kernel.
I think i have to put the Mobile in the Fastboot Mode. An then flash the Kernel via PC connection. But which File i had to choose?
In the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172885 thread i found the
ARC-DooMKernel-v18-FIX1-lower_boot.img file. Is this the right one? Should I rename the File? And whats about the modules? Is this the right one? MODULES for DooMKernel (v15 onwards), Rename?
Sorry for my Noob questions and my poor english.
Best regards
Ossi
Good morning,

How to Hard root Arc S?

Hi,
in the android commander software website
under FAQ section
They mentioned that the rooting is two kinds:
-soft root
-hard root
please can some one explain to me how to Hard root my Arc S in easy & safe way ?
I read that u can Hard root your device by editing the root image
How to do that ? and what's the safest and easiest method ?
Thanks!
Make a boot image or ftf of your Rom or download a stock boot.img or ftf
Pull out your boot.img.
Unpack.
Edit default.prop file, set value "ro.debuggable” to "1″.
Re-Pack.
Flash with flashtool like any normal rom
Though any method of rooting does this as far as I'm aware.
I may be wrong about this so don't take all I say as pure truth, I don't wanna feel responsible if you brick your phone

Unlocked bootloader, right?
Well... I started flashing with the FXP CM based roms. I suppose that this is exactly what you did, but since you didn't tell the steps you followed, I'm gonna write down how I did the first time:
With an FXP CM based rom (eg: FXP CM 10) , the steps, basically are:
- Extract the boot.img (own kernel of the FXP roms) of the .zip and put the .zip in the sdcard
- Flash the kernel in fastboot mode:
( fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce flash reboot
unplug the usb and start hiting volume controls to enter in CWM)
- Wipe data and cache
- Install the .zip (rom)
- Reboot and enjoy
Hope it works for you.
Aactually I am not. Able to flash kernel image with fastboot.. I mean with flashtool I am not Able to flash kernel image.. flashtool is showing error that my phone is not rooted.. but it actually is..

I'm noob too, so unfortunately I can't help in the most effective way.
The only apparent difference between our phones (from what I understood from your post) is that I unlocked the bootloader. I read here in XDA that some roms just need this while others not.
"can u tell me the procedure from the scratch, I ll really appreciate it" - You mean unlock the BL?
It's easy, but may void the warranty... Go here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
(Note: In my case I didn't install the sdk, but I just can't find the tutorial that I followed to unlock the BL... Anyway, the tutorial that I've used was in portuguese... Not much help for you I guess
Note2: In the middle of the process, you'll have to inform your IMEI in the sony website... Use just the first 14 digits).
There is enough information in the guides and stickys to help with most things, People just need to read it.

When I want to know sth, I search and then I will have more than I wanted.
1. unlock the boot loader
2. Download a custom kernel for your current version of android ie: GB/ICS i suggest DoomLord.
3.Put the kernel ( .img ) into the same folder as you have fastboot/adb
4. Power the phone into fastboot: Power down your phone. Press and hold the menu button then plug in your usb cable (the light on the side will be blue)
open a CMD window in the same folder as fastboot/adb and type the commant:
fastboot flash boot NAME OF FILE.img
push enter.
Once the install is complete (a couple of second) you will have root and custom recovery.
Make sure your phone version is rootable
There are guides available in the General section, I suggest you read them if this is your first root.
Good Luck.
Thanks guys I appreciate your help.. I ll try

how to put a custom rom om my xpria s ?

please help me
Dude,
First we need a bit more info, have you rooted your phone?
Sent from my Xperia S, made awesome by XDA.
First you need to know if you have locked or unlockable bootloader.
Since you are new to this, my advice is to remain locked, that way you can't kill your phone.
Step 1 - root your phone
Step 2 - install cwm on your phone
Step 3 - choose the Rom you like, My favorites are trinnity rom if you like android stock interface or MIUI if you like more graphic interface. Download the Rom
Step 4 - follow instructions and flash Rom via cwm
If everything ok, you got a new Rom on your phone
ALWAYS DO THIS WITH AT LEAST 80% BATTERY!

Here you have some links with general info about XperiaS, but I believe you may need to do some more basic readings before..

I suggest YouTube. There are plenty of videos. That's the easiest way for newbies.
You have to flash CWM recovery or TWR on your phone or try FlashTool.
I have done by unlocking bootloader guide from http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and then going to fastboot mode and flashing CWM recovery and flashing ROM from there. Hope that helps!

I think the first question is: Do you have adb / fastboot / flashtool on your computer, with drivers for your phone? If so, rooting is probably not a big deal. If not, or if you're not familiar with them, you'll have to start there.

If everything is ready, and bootloader unlocked, easiest way I've found is this :
- Download pre-rooted rom with recovery zip to sdcard
- Download CM boot img and TWRP recovery img to PC, (adb folder)
- Turn off phone and connect in fastboot mode, (make sure to check 'unknown sources and adb debugging on phone)
- Open command prompt, go to adb folder, flash boot img, flash recovery img
- Reboot to recovery and flash pre-rooted zip
Now you have root and recovery so even if you don't want that rom, you can download what you do want and flash it.
With locked bootloader you'll probably have to go a different route.

For boot img you can download a rom and pull the boot file out, or search some forums for one posted. I am happy to post one but not too familiar with the rules on that. If you have trouble, maybe I can. To see if bootloader is unlocked or unlockable, there's a hash code. Not sure what it is exactly, but easy to find with a search. If it is locked but unlockable, Sony has an official procedure. Just search for Sony Mobile unlock bootloader.

i will unlock the bootloader tommorow
now i am looking for this 3 files
and if your right i am good when i have those images
thx
What FW version do you have? I would suggest you do not unlock the bootloader. you lose some of the image processing features and other proprietary software. instead use NUT's tools: download the recovery and the tool for your model and FW version, and run it. it's easy and no problem.
EDIT: if that does'nt work, use xperifirm to download a firmware, PRF to root it, and flashtool to flash it to the phone. all quite straightforward, no BL-Unlock needed. there's a thread for every tool, and they all have a GUI.
Root without downgrading first?

Is it possible to flash a pre-rooted factory Sony rom without downgrading and rooting first?
