I have planned to buy O2 XDA IIs from my frnd (2nd hand for sure)
Does it comes under the name, blueangel???
also please tell me pros and cons about this dmobile device
I already own O2 xda exec, typhoon and voyager
what about this one???
cud U, experienced users please guide me....am i gonna upgrade its rom to WM6 or not??
It's a great device, you won't make a mistake It has Intel PXA263 400mhz processor (This is the only thing i don't like in blueangel. It is not so fast. If you plan to play 3d games it is not very good for this. But you can easily overclock it with pocket master to 530mhz. With this frequency it handles everything without Snow Rally - there's a little lag and you can't play Playstation 1 games even if you overclock it to 590. I got 21-23fps in Tony Hawk Pro Skater with @530mhz and Frameskip - 2), 128 ram (This is great! With so much ram you don't need real close button. But there are no applications that wants more than 32 ram, so this is not a big advantage), Big screen and the best design for games(The screen is perfect. It wouldn't be bad if there was VGA screen but QVGA is not so bad either. In web browsing the qvga resolution is a big dissadvantage. You have to scrool a lot. But now there are browsers now that supports Zoom function. With it the browsing is good even on qvga device. When Opera 9.5 comes out it will rock And the design is great for games. It's like joystick when you handle it in landscape position and there are many buttons), 64mb Flash Storage(It's not much but you don't need more. There are SD Cards for that), SD/MMC expansion slot( The bad thing here is that it doesn't support SDHC, there are no drivers for that and there won't be in future ), CIF camera (It is really badd. The image quality is similar. If you try to record video it lags. I don't know why :/ It does it wven in the lowest quality), WiFi( No problems here), Bluetooth (No problems here either), IrDA( It can't be used as a remote controller because the irda range is around 3 meters)
And finally the PocketPC comes with WM2003. You can install WM6.1 but I recommend you to wait for explode's WM6.1. His roms are the best With the new windows the pocket becmoes really fast and stable. That's all, it's a great device

Nice choice. I recently picked up a hermes and while it is very nice, there are some things I miss from the Angel.

I don't quite understand this question. If you are asking if it was sold under the name of Blue Angel, no. Blue Angel is the HTC internal name for the phone. It was never sold by HTC directly, but to the various cell carriers who rebadged it with their own plastics and ROM/applications.

Pros:
Good CPU speed (the keiser runs at the same speed, 400 mhz)
The CPU has been around for a while, so 3rd party apps that are designed for the CPU work well.
Good physical size on the screen
Lots of storage and program memory when the extended ROM is resized/removed.
Cons:
Since it is an older platform, any MW version after 2003 is a hack. The drivers are generally ported from other phones and there are various bugs that will probably never be fixed due to a lack of hardware drivers. Everything does work, there are just various quirks.
Radio range (bluetooth, wifi, etc) are not the best. Heck, they often tend to be down right crappy.
Unless someone is able to write and release a SDHC driver for the card slot, it will never support SDHC cards, which will limit the phone to 4 gig cards. 2 gig is the official spec for SD, but there are a few 4 gig non-SDHC cards out there.

I would. MW6 is a huge improvement over 2003 and 5. The latest ROM builds out there work very well, if not 99% perfectly, and are fast.
In my opinion, Hemli releasing wm6 for the angel breathed new life into the device.
Really, I wish HTC would revive the device, make an updated version of it. The form factor, while is a bit big for a phone, is great for usability as a PDA.

I second that! Just ditched my Hermes for my old trusty Blue Angel, which blows the pants off it! I forgot how much I loved the 3.5 inch screen!
Rookie as well with the Blue Angel
I am getting started with the Blue angel as well (O2 Xda IIs)
I like it a lot this will probably become my best buddy during my travels
I got a couple of complementary questions about it.
I intend to use it for business purposes, mainly Internet through
Wifi and GPRS, pdf and offices documents.
I saw on this forum that you advise to change from WM 2003SE to Windows Mobile 6 (the last published by Microsoft)
-My question is: This PDA is already a bit old now, is it going to work smoothly wit the very last OS, which is designed for more recent PDAs (i.e which should be more efficient).
I mainly want to use it for Internet, wich browser do you recommend ?
Internet explorer? Opera Mobile? Opera Mini? other browser?
By the way what is the difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini
you should go with opera mobile, as it is better suited for pda's. opera mini is suited for java based mobile phones.

man i wish they would do that, or release a device with the same glorious screen but with contemporary features, all in all the blu angel is still a killer device 4 years on.
Absolutely right. I had been using the subj for 4 years in nearly extremal conditions, uprading and downgrading firmware dozen times. But, unfortunately it died as hero. Really great gadget, legend of HTC platform challenging ages.
Hi
Well with WM 6.1 it does everything I need and thats for sure I have my pick of devices and always come back to this one - and the 11i which is just about as good
I cant think of a time I have been upset with what it does or doesn't do. I intend keep one for as long as it will run....

I recently got the HD. Must say, it is a sexy beast. One factor that led me to choose this over the iPhone was -
* A greater selection of apps and the ability to install whatever you wished.
I am a keen game player and currently, with the HTC HD I have the following problems.
1. Lack of D-Pad/hardware buttons means that there many existing titles are unsuitable for play
2. The screen ratio means that more titles dont play (in full resolution).
3. There just arent any good motion controlled games (whereas, there IS on the iPhone)
4. Game titles that do work properly on the HD (and even those that dont) are boring/not very fluid/not exciting/2D - certainly not the case for the iPhone.
5. Game development for the iPhone seems an active process - every week, one hears of a new innovative game release for the iPhone, which one never hears for the HD or other PPC.
6. I tried using emulators - including the PSX one, just too slow, doesnt do much for me.
What do people have to say about the list above? Specifically:
1. Is there any way of playing iPhone games on the HTC HD
2. Why is no one making use of the HTC HDs gaming potential/motion sensor?
From a rather cheated purchacher.
OMG i cant hear it anymore. every second post is whining about the so cool iphone and the crappy touch hd.
windows mobile has the problem that it has good applications, but boring games. many developers seem still to think that its only a phone for business usage.
the touch hd is not a dedicated gaming device, if you want one, you have to buy a psp or iphone. thats it.
just listen carefully , its not the problem of the device(its windows mobile so it has the ability to accept great games and its also proved by the Xtrakt game!) , its the problem of the developers there are no / or a little developers that can make games like Xtrakt. (oh btw Xtrakt wasnt even developed by a hd user or for the hd it was developed for the Xperia )
sorry, if im wrong just delete this reply or ignore it !
sorry for my bad English

The problem is that every company that makes phones can use any chipset they want and there is no SDK for developers to use that is standardized for all Windows phones. hopefully with the next line of HTC phones there will be enough in that line to encourage developers to figure it out. Anyway, try Need For Speed as well and you can enable the gsen to work for it until the new version (that EA is including the gsen in) is released: http://www.fuzemobility.com/need-for-speed-gsen-enabled-now/
if u ask me... 800x480 is new one to developers(popular device) so they need time to adapt their new games so u will play to your device...till now u got 640x480 games working on your blackstone(adapted somehow ) and wait for new 1 to come...
cheer
ps. u cant compare iphone with blackstone cos, trust me, iphone its not worth it
my missus has an iphone and they are two completly different phones its like comparing a toaster with a microwave.
iphone has great games and gui interface and is damn easy to use but it lacks applications and modifications
get your missus to get an iphone that way u can play the games on hers while still modifying your hd!

I don't know why you feel "cheated" because really, you should have known that coming in.
Also, WVGA screens are not all that popular at the moment - you've bought a leading edge device and support is still coming - wait for the TD2 and TP2, and then you should see a lot more apps coming.
Also, iPhone has the App Store - developers have incentive to make games for /one/ platform (2 if you count iPod Touch)...WM developers have to cater for so many devices that it's almost ridiculous - not to mention that people will just pirate the software anyway.
Wait until the Microsoft MarketPlace goes online for a bit, and you should see a lot more games and apps coming your way.
But honestly? If you got want a phone to play games, then get an iPhone. If you want a phone to play music, get a Nokia 5800 or an iPhone..if you want a phone that you can watching HQ vids on, flash the brains out of, with tons of add-ons, without fear of fiddling around and tweaking that phone until it's uniquely yours, then get a Touch HD. WinMo is not the most user-friendly OS out there...but that's why we have XDA and all those awesome cooks/devs out there!

I could be very wrong but microsoft market place has been online for years. i certainly recall submitting my own applications around 4 years ago.
Just to summarize, I now understand that there is lack of good games for the HD for the following reasons:
1. Software/hardware of every single windows mobile is different therefor, developers do not know what to target. iPhone is what it is.
2. People who buy WM are not interested in flashy games
3. The hardware of HD is superior to iPhone for playing games. But despite this, people are not interested in development because of these reasons.
4. Its easy to download cracked games and stuff for WM devices so developers are losing out.
5. there are ok games out there but most of them have one or more limitations (e.g. sensor support, wrong screen resolution)
6. If you want the fully customizable phone and the joys of playing games on an iPhone, you first need a woman.
7. Microsoft will never do anything to get these problems sorted.
8. Looks like we WM users will never have proper games for our devices.
Depressing thought really.
you're right, it is depressing...but with the new WVGA devices coming out soon, with Windows Mobile 6.5 on the way, we should see new interest in WM devices and hopefully games for them.
and you may be right about the marketplace, but I am sure that Microsoft are planning on releasing the Microsoft Marketplace (or re-releasing it) with WM6.5 launch, it will function in much the same way as the Android version and the Palm version - to compete with the charm of the AppStore

+1 the naked truth!
Windows Mobile
HD is a very good mobile hardware, the problem is the software used , Windows Mobile , which is very limited for the applications versus the competitor system Mac iPhone. I have and I am using both of them for my private business. With the firmware version 3, iPhone is going to be a superior and first in class of technology for the mobile market. No doubt!
Actually you can find a lot of applications and games working very well on iPhone (see appulo.us), meanwhile on HD the selection is very, very limited. In the next future, also the viruses will start to growth around in windows mobile system, and again it will be a problem similar to XP system forced to use antivirus software, etc.
This is the truth, all the rest it’s just a sterile discussion...nothing else.
The way I see it, Blackstone is one of the first major HTC sellers, that makes use of a 480x800 screen res....The newest and coming up models, are to have the exact same screen res.and in addition, the same processor and RAM capacity, like Diamond 2, Pro 2 etc.
So, hopefully, more users will own the same "platform" (mobile phone's specifications)- meaning there will be more room for potentional customers of the developers' programs.
Keep in mind, that the more popular a platform is, the more the developers want to work with it...And iPhone, at least as a standalone device, is by far more popular than any Htc device...
However, consider 4-5 or more Htc models, with the same specs as the HD...Now that should make a difference....shouldn't it?
Lets break this down nice a simple:
IPhone - One of apples "up there own arse" products who stand there saying "Hay we have loads of support from others an were know for our best selling IPod so.....lets jump on the phone market" make it look all shiny an add loads of apps an Itunes Support!
HTC Touch HD - I know let do a phone that use windows, can have the OS upgraded with future possibilites for apps, fully PC compable for access (As not everyone can aford A £800 Mac), A large nice screen, word that is back compatable with older docs and more.
Personaly Apple piss me off as I'm a music producer an there so up them selfs with "Logic Pro - Mac Only".....Oh wait Cubase is multi-format.
You see my point here?! Apple have for me have just bandwagon jumped "cashing in" so to speak on the phone market an keeping all the arps exclusive for the I-Phone much like Logic only for there Macs - yeah good phone but for how long?
Rant Over!

While that is true, the keywords there are "most" and "in some form".
I dont like apple products, and doubt I would ever buy one. But with the iphone they have redefined what people want and are coming to expect from high end handsets.

That is very true... but I think it is only a matter of time until interesting concepts are "ported" to WM... Just look at TouchFlo: This effort of making WM finger-friendly is a direct result of the iphone - and my HD is becoming more finger-friendly with every new ROM released here!
Lets be fair. Despite my love for my HTC HD, I have come to accept that those with iPhones enjoy something greater than what we can ever hope to... entertainment to the max when it comes to games... developers are gagging for it.
also, let us not say that iPhone is for bums and WM devices are for the social elite... the reality is that most users are looking for a, when X equals the benefits of a PDA phone, 'mobile phone with X' (X being the extra), not 'X with a mobile phone' (mobile phone being the extra). I just wish in the case of the latter, X could also include games.
With my HD, I have already enjoyed the GPS with TomTom, WiFi and all the hours of fun it brings, software programming and trying out some random apps (many of which dont work, however had elated prior to actually running them). I dont think an iPhone, despite it obvious offer of sensually pleasing games, could have left me satisfied so, especially when I dont have a missus.
I have to be honest, things are looking up, the need for speed game appears to be an exciting development.
I made this poll last time, but this was around when the news of WP7 was just getting out. I'm sure that from then and now, we've learned a lot more about the OS and MS has released a lot more info regarding the OS. So with that being said, I was just curious to see if there were any change of hearts.
Vote on!
I plan on buying a windows phone whenever some nice looking hardware comes to Verizon. I might have to wait a while since ill have to buy one at full price because my upgrade isn't until 2012.
Never will I ever choose anything besides Windows 7 or their webcam for my products.
Ad notifications? What kind of nonsense is this?
And here is the real nail in the coffin:
"At launch, Windows Phone 7 will not have the ability to cut, copy, and paste. It will recognize telephone numbers and addresses, but Microsoft says the majority of users don't need 'cut, copy, and paste'."
With that attitude, do I trust this company for phones? No. The iPhone 2G had more features than this!
I hope they die in the mobile arena. Their efforts have been haphazard and poor. If it does turn out to be good (doubtful since I've used Windows Mobile since the Blackjack) I don't see anything it offers that Android or iPhone doesn't already do, and better.
Fun phones are the iPhone and Android systems. They're also very good for work as well.
Blackberry handles business as usual.
And Microsoft, your best move was investing in Apple.

Sounds like a guy who is been around for a long time !!?. I respect your opinion but it is windows mobile what made this forum what it is today. So let it die?
It depends what kind of user you are, I have always been a fan of windows because its customizable, what is for me an added value. Now with the coming of mobile7, I dont know, but I´m sure we can support and make the OS better around here.
Iphone is in my opinion a hyped phone (especially the iphone4) and clearly is not as good as the previous versions because of its hardware malfunction.
Respecting Andriod, I like the phones and they are great but still I´m staying old fashioned and try and stick to WinMo.
As you can notice I will buy a phone with the new OS because I´m just curious and its flawless integrated with windows platforms in private and corporate perspective. What i believe is the advantage of Microsoft software.
I will buy a WP7 device in Germany as soon a device similar to the HD2 is released. For me are a display around 4 inch, arround 448 MB RAM, at least 16GB flash memory important. An amoled display is prefered.
Why WP7? As a developer I have with Silverlight much more fun and I have no fun to flash my device regularry to get the rom to a quality level that should be out of box. Is's a shame but big thanks to this board for making the good HD2 roms
Just waiting on what T-Mobile USA will bring us

Sure it did.
Main difference between WP7 and other mobile OSes, that it is being complex. iOS has just core stuff - kernel, some core APIs and few built-in apps like mail or safari. Android adds some wannabe support for integrating facebook, today widgets. WP7 comes as latest one with around 2 year development as of now, including full facebook integration at launch, combining and integrating your contacts into facebook. This was just an example, that WP7 is way more complex system, than any other mobile OS we have now. It allows integration into hubs, ... while all you can do on iOS is just add your icon on app launcher. No integration into core apps.
Also the biggest fun will begin shortly. Possibility to develop for PC-Xbox360-WP7 with one source code (and just optimizing user input for mouse, joystick or touchscreen) is f...in promising. And Silverlight, C# and XNA are awesome to play and create with, compared to native coding.
I will be getting WP7 as soon as I get the opportunity. Love the UI (I'd just say more colors into icons in the applist). Love the possibilities. Love MS!

xbox-wp7-pc game integration is a possibility? but how is a phone going to be as capable as the three cores plus graphics core of a 360?

Gota get on the leading edge again and start promoting the thing to my friends/family/co-workers/etc.

First of all, WP7 has a lower target resolution than XBox and PCs. You also can use a lower resolution than the native resolution of WP7 and the phone will resize the image "for free" using a dedicated chip. To target the different input formats, you have to tweak the code and use conditional compilation (like #If Xbox; #If WP7; #If Windows). If you want to utilize the full potential of each platform, there may be many conditional compilation instructions, but it is possible. Depending on the architecture, the main game logic can remain the same and does not need (many) changes.
Ima stick with it. WP7 is nice.
Yep, just as Reihnold described it.
The main logic and core is the same, you just optimalize it for different input and ofc slower HW (but with coming Hummingbird etc we will see reaching Xbox on WVGA screen in few years I bet). You disable some cool effects etc, but you do that with those #If Xbox360 fxRainbow.Enable = true; #Endif etc, so nothing huge. Compared to Linux-Android it is something quite easy. Mostly because of awesome IDE.
Wouldn't consider anything else.
I will definitely buy one. Love MS products and services and using them all integrated on my phone is the biggest thing they could ever made!
Cloud is the future
I'd be more interested to know what percentage of people would switch to wp7 in an iphone and/or android forum really. That to me is a better indicator of how well wp7 will do at launch.
I eventually want to switch, but ill do it further down the line when the OS matures.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I voted for sticking with WP7, all the latest videos I've seen show how super smooth it is so I wont be switching to clunky Andriod anytime soon
I am waiting to actually see how well the office, RDP and other apps integrate into windows before I pull the trigger on one. I really could care less about facebook integration or twitter or any social networking. Sure I use facebook, but I want to keep my contacts seperate from my social networking. I want a business device first. Not to say I won't try one out, but I intend on keeping my Tilt2 around unless they release a WM6.5 handset with a keyboard and a faster processor and more RAM! like that will happen...
And if it comes to switching platforms, android is next in line. No apple products ever in my house.

I am so ready to purchase one of Windows Phone 7 phones! Why? please... for those ppl who say WP7 is not as great as their beloved WM 6 series, you gotta let your ego go. And yes, i have HD2. So this is a customer with experiences with hacking my device and use cooked ROMs. And yes i hate using cooked ROMs. Althogh i use cooked ROMs that looks like stock version atm. But i am planning to purchase it in this holiday or wait for htc to announce HD3 the beast! I really want my phone to have 1.5ghz or something downgraded clocked duo cpu.
Sorry for the dumb question but i am using the latest sept 4th rom from energy but was wondering has a windows 7 mobile come out yet for the tilt2??Also i havetried skyfire, opera and IE and think that skyfire is fastest but it it way too inconsistent for my liking. Also seems like the latest rom eats a lof of my battery . Any opinions??
Due to the hardware requirements it seems unlikely (to me) that WP7 will make it to the TP2. The chefs have done some pretty amazing things though, so maybe...
If you like the speed of skyfire try Opera Mini, there's a standalone winmo installer that doesn't use java on opera's site. pretty slick.
ok mate i will try it in a bit and let u know what i think of it!!
WinMo 7 will only be officially offered on new phones that meet the pretty high hardware requirements (the Tilt 2/TP2 does not) and probably won't be out until mid-November at the earliest. Even if someone here manages to extract it into an installable ROM, it would likely run like dog poo on these devices.
first of all, I think WP7 OS is great and i have my omnia 7 for about 18months now, so im in a great position to say what i think of it.
for the first time in 18 months, im starting too look at the Android OS. why?
WP7 Hardware STILL dosnt cut it and there not a single true wp7 high end device out there.
examples,
the aging low res
low memory (especially if you live in the UK 8 gb phones really?)
poor GPU (60 fps is the minimum standard and wp7 games seem to be struggling to hit 30 fps. only the games with poor graphics run at 60fps on wp7. its embarrasing. i wouldnt show my android /iphone owning friends these games on my phone.
single core - sure the actual OS generally is nice and smooth ( although mine has definately slowed down recently maybe as im running out of memory?) however try opening PDF files they slow right down and take an age to open
Skydrive, i use skydrive all the time, i log on today and now instead of my usual 25GB i see i now only have 7GB ? whats going on here, skydrive was the only thing keeping my phone running over since i have only 8, ( actually 7GB of storage on my phone........
like i said at the start, the OS it self is really great, i just wish i could have the OS on a device as powerful as the "old"Samsung galaxy s2 ( I say old but its still WAY more powerful than WP7 devices.) but the hardware is really letting WP7 Down... no wonder sales have been rubbish
Read this article:
http://wmpoweruser.com/skydrive-for-windows-now-available-to-download-features-as-promised/
It will give you a link to 'upgrade' your SkyDrive storage back to 25GB. I just did this yesterday for an account, so it should still be working. It also has a link for the new SkyDrive Windows 7 program, which makes SD now on par with DropBox (Better, actually since it now keeps the phone in sync with folders on the computer).
thanks for that .......should keep me ticking over until my contract ends. by then i expect ( more like hope actually) that there will be at least 1 wp7 htc device in 6 months?

I hope they make something like the hardware used for the ONE S.
I was helping my friend get her very first ever smart phone (Lumia 710) yesterday. We were at Car Toys. The sales guy went to the back to get the ONE S to show it off. Granted, I'm in no way passionate about Android, but it is one sexy piece of hardware. Just the right thickness, but a great sturdiness and weight to it. I was really impressed with its feel. Were there no Nokia, I'd go w/ HTC. Samsung's all feel like plastic graham crackers to me.
Single core and all those things, do you really need it or just to say Hey I have dual cores. For me, I don't think dual core is needed.
About the GPU, yes I think the game graphics can be improved by a lot seeing those FPS games on iphone.
To the OP, glad that you have realised and awake about the drawbacks...
Have been using my mozart for 13months++, bought the HTC one X last month, honestly my 1st android device. It is great, don't listen to all those lagging&force close BS...give it a try...no regret on one X...
lol...smoked by WP7???who cares?i can play cut the rope: experiment, angry bird space, highlighting and add notes to my PDF lecture slides(this is the crucial one), cheaper apps and etc....
now my mozart is collecting dusk and work as alarm clock[this is where WP7 excel at (easy task)]

If you like the experience of Windows Phone but want more modern hardware, Windows Phone 8 might be worth looking at.
It will be based on the NT kernel and will support more powerful CPU / GPUs (including multi-core CPUs) and higher screen resolutions.
There are plenty of other threads discussing WP8 (including timing) if you want more information. I'd expect it to be out within 6 months, assuming you're on a 2 year contract.
OP, your post is useless as all your other 232 posts. Hope to never see you again in WP7/Win8 forums (you may also pick up a few andro-stupid-trolls with)
Get a phone to suit your needs end of line.
I'm also leaving windows phone for android.
I've been a huge windows phone supporter (went from windows mobile to windows phone) and i still think metro is the greatest thing on any phone. But i'm tired of not having key features that i find essential for any phone. I mean common, no way to turn off auto rotation? No way to view notifications other than live tiles? No way to lower volume without lowering ring volume? No way to turn off 3G (if you had AT&T in NYC you'd understand why)
These are things i consider very very basic and should be implemented.
I really don't care about the apps. That's not why i'm switching. I'm switching because i have a problem with the OS not having basic functionality.
Hi guys, lets try to keep the forum focused in DEVELOPMENT, in this section for WP7. Thread closed.
