No matter what I do, I cant get my RUU to work. It puts it in bootloader, then says waiting for bootloader :/
Then gives the USB Error.
What am I doing wrong..
Do you have HTC Sync installed?
Have you left it plugged in and tried to run the RUU again? If not, try that, after the error, close the RUU and run it again right away. This is what I always had to do with them before, worked like a charm then. Otherwise, double check that HTC Sync in installed and that ur computer recognizes ur phone ok.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
I installed HTC sync and restarted my computer for the driver installation like it said...and now it cant even verify info on the phone.
Anyone want to help via teamviewer? I'm desperate

Copy the .zip that gets extracted to your %TEMP% folder to the root of your SD card and rename it to PC36IMG.zip
Hi, today a have tried to root my htc desire using revoked 2 method. I was unable to install usb drivers. And now i cant even mount desire as hard drive. Computer still reports that device is unknown. I tried different usb ports, 2 different cabels, windows xp and seven. Before everything worked fine. Do you thing it is possible, that i damaged phone, when i plug it out just disconnecting cable?
Which version of unrEVOked did you try? I seems like a driver issue as you have to install the modified Hboot drivers for unrEVOked in a certain way before unrEVOked will work. If you attempted root with unrEVOked 3.21, did you follow the steps mentioned in thi thread?:

I used this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
and I stuck at 3. point... On your phone, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses.
and after that i am unable to connect desire to pc... no way...seems like something happend with usb driver in phone or i dont know...just i ve tried 3 computers for now and every reports same when I connect usb, that device is unknown
What Hboot do you have?
What is your PVT version? (also check the Bootloader for this info)
0.93.0001 and I forgot...I stucked at third point because i got there no option HBOOT USB

Ok, thank you for that info.
To tell you the truth, with unrEVOked 3.21, you must install the modified HBOOT drivers for it to work, otherwise it will not work at all.
Please try following this guide as it is definately requied. I asked you above if you had tried going through it, you mentioned that you had only tried using the guide in the first link, but you definately need to have the modified HBOOT drivers installed to proceed.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Try what is suggested and let me know if you can proceed past step three after configuring the HBOOT drivers first, as it is a must.

Hmm... yes i see what you mean. Unrevoked is fussy regarding drivers. Try the following:
1) Uninstall HTC Sync completely, the HTC Driver Setup, and HTC BMP Driver if present.
2) Reboot and reinstall the HTC Sync software (latest version).
3) Now uninstall HTC Sync Alone. Keep other two (HTC Driver Setup and HTC BMP Driver) installed.
4) Reboot your PC again.
Note: do not connect phone to PC at all and make sure the phone is switched off.
5) Switch your phone to the Bootloader screen. Connect the phone via USB and it should show Fastboot USB.
6) Windows will show the device detection dialog box - at this point, stop Windows from getting the driver from Windows Update, and manually choose the location of the driver as the folder where Unrevoked driver is present.
7) After this is done, diconnect phone again.
8) Go through the unrEVOked guide and connect the phone when advised to.
If this fails, then try unrEVOked 3.22 (in my sig below) and see how that goes and although you have mentioned that you have tried 3 different PC's, you may have to consider trying it on a different OS platform, such as Linux.

Try downloading the Android SDK: installer_r08-windows.exe
Follow the steps in this video to hopefully get the appropriate USB drivers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N66J6UiN5Pg&feature=player_embedded
EDIT:
With the phone connected, try the following afterwards:
Check to make sure that you have USB Debugging enabled on your phone.
In Device Manager, right-click your Unknown Android device and select 'Update Driver Software'. Browse to the folder (extract the zip to the Desktop) i have attached below and see if it installs them.

OK, i will try the thing with sdk..i am downloading files right now, but that makes no sense to download any other windows drivers. I think the problem is inside of the phone, because it represents itself like unknown device to any computer with any drivers...if there is a way to restore flash memory or something...well looks like i will have to wait one month for reclamation...how this could happen my god

I agree... it is clearly an HBOOT driver issue or the phone... Windows (PC host) drivers are seperate. I was just running out of ideas really
The only definate way of knowing if it is the device that is causing this issue is if you were to try it on a non-Windows related OS, like Linux and maybe it would work for you using an Ubuntu Live CD.

Yes, because it is not as fussy with drivers as Windows is - with Windows, they have to be properly removed from its cache. With Linux, the phone should be detected ok (unless the phone is at fault).
Here is a simple guide that you can follow:

So, linux didnt work either, system didnt even recognize that anything was plug in. Even crossed fingers dident help Well only last thing I have to ask, if there is any possibility to recover hboot, restore it somehow. Forexample through recovery menu in hboot loader and some kind of .zip file, that i will put to SD card. If not, well I will have to step out to that freezing weather and walk to orange store for reclamation, which I hope would be positive for me, but something telling me it surely will.
I found something about usb unbrick here on xda forum, but is only for root phones
well i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9056719&postcount=15 i think it could work, just i dont know a way how to discover my CID number..to modify mtd0.img file
ok, i did everything step by step using rageagainstthecage tutorial, but nothing happend at all.
If anyone could help...
Are you able to get into Fastboot?
I suppose running your stock RUU in Hboot won't make a difference then... how about trying the PB99IMG method, which involves renaming the extracted rom.zip file to PB99IMG.zip from your stock RUU, placing this to the root of your SD card and then letting it run from Fastboot mode. This would restore your stock Hboot. You could also try AlphaRev's modified 0.93 HBOOT with S-OFF?
I am getting an error doing the HBoot!
HTC Sync is uninstalled and i rebooted my com after uninstalling
Basically the error says its unable to find driver software for my device
Sorry i can't post the screenshot, post count is too low
Why would you want to update hboot. But since you have a driver error try finding the hboot drivers.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Oops i didn't mean update, i meant install
What is it you're trying to do? If you mean S-OFF then you just run the CD and plug your phone in. If you're already S-OFF and want to flash a new MTD then you do so using fastboot
I'm trying to root my phone.
I read from guides that i have to install the HBoot drivers first. I suppose this part is correct.
OK, things are a bit clearer...
I take it you have unrEVOked 3.32 downloaded correct? Then follow these instructions (from their website):
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
Yes exact same place which i was refering to. But i have no idea why mine doesn't install. It says Windows could not find driver software for your device. I have downloaded the modified usb driver.
I would post the screen shot but i dun have enough post counts >.<
You need to point Windows to the place where the driver is (personally I didn't have to use the modified one, the HTC Sync drivers were enough)
so i should skip the HBoot drivers step? I'm using Windows btw.
I should be giving the correct directory.
I have to extract the usb driver right
How I did it:
1. Install HTC Sync
2. Uninstall HTC Sync but leave the HTC Drivers
3. Boot phone into HBOOT and connect to PC and wait for driver to be installed
4. Turn phone on again in normal Android
5. Set USB Debugging on
6. Start unrEVOked
7. Set custom recovery (as I like to use AmonRA)
8. Connect phone to PC
9. Allow unrEVOked to complete
what do you mean in step 3 wait for the driver to install?
Hi had all different roms on my DHD and settled on Ice cold sandwich which it has been running for a few months now, earlier on today I noticed that it had gone off and only the backlight was on, So I restarted it and it started loading the screen up but then just went into a loop.
So i pulled the battery and went into recovery and reloaded the ICS rom, but know it just vibrates 5 times and shows the splash screen and goes off with just the backlight on again.
I can get into fastboot but when i press the button for recovery it does the same I've tried every pd98img I could find and it says wrong image after I try and load them.
And when I connect it to the pc it can't be recognised by htcsync or thru any adb commands, and windows tried to load a driver called Q_USB-DLOAD or something similar then loads a qualcom usb driver but adb commands still won't recognise it, been looking all bnight for an answer getting desperate.
Thanx in advance Michael
Put it in fast boot and plug into PC. Run your stock ruu from PC. It will install the stock ROM. Then when you can get into ROM enable USB debugging and use aahk option menu to install recovery. You should be able to enter recovery and wipe everything except SD and install whatever ROM.

Hi, thanks for the reply the link for that ruu is dead, and i can't get the device recognised in windows to run anything tried every driver going,
If anyone can point me in the direction of the right pd98.img I will try to load that again the one i found had the modelid: PD9812000 where as my device says modelid: PD9810000 so thats prob be the reason that it said wrong image and wouldn't load it.
Thanks.Michael
Ruu will run with boot loader in any state so no need to re lock it. It seems a peice of hardware failure is the issue here. Try removing SD card and see if it will enter recovery. If not it may just have died.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe if you are S-ON you need a locked bootloader in order to flash a stock RUU.

First try a different usb cable.
If that doesn't work try a different PC (Install htc sync)
Your drivers may be messed up somehow.
Here's a working link for the RUU : Link
If you tried all the above and still can't connect to PC, try this:
-Relock Bootloader
-Download the above RUU.
-Run the EXE in windows (as administrator).
-Tick the "I agree box" and click next (just once). Don't continue with any steps.
-Go the temp folder on your PC (you can find it by navigating to: C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp )
-search for ROM.ZIP
-Copy it to your desktop. Rename it to PD98IMG.zip and place it in the index of your sdcard (format your card first using fat32. Don't quick format)
-Place your card back into your phone and reboot into bootloader.
-Let it flash automatically.
No makes no difference with sd card removed just shows splash screen vibrates pauses then vibrates 7 times and goes blank
Check the my post above. I've just edited it.
I use to think you had to be s on too to flash an ruu but it makes no difference. I have flashed them both s on and s off. Attn1 has tried to clear this up, but is a common misconception.

Michael,
If you haven't sent your phone yet, try flashing CWM recovery using this guide..
Then reflash the PD98IMG you created in the previous instructions.
I'm not sure if this will work 100%, but there's no harm in trying!

Also loaded android drivers via device manager (screen dump attatched)
I can "talk" to my SD card OK with windows explorer but i don't think I am "talking to my phone or card via adb and the command prompt"

All the obvious things.. Andrtoid debugging enabled / Charge only
So When I attempt to run Step 1 bat I get the following error message:adb server is out of date..killing..*daemon server started successfully... error device not found..(screen dump attatched)
also i tried to make a "goldcard" and extract the serial no of the sd card on the phone. . same deal.. as soon as i get into adb ....error. device not found
note i am using windows 7.
my theory is that i'm don't have a propper usb link when i go into the dos cammand prompt/adb but i have loaded the drivers. I think this is happening when i try to root other phones also (eg zte blade)

Thanks eventcom, but I've followed that link and numrerous others and they all follow the same theme.
here is the problem as I see it...
1/I have installed the android driver when in hboot and it works ok as per attatched image
2/ I have installed htc_sync_setup 3.2.20.exe which is the latest driver availiable from the htc website.I then uninstall HTC sync, which leaves HTC driver installer & HTC BMP USB driver remaining as installed ( as per instructions)
3/ I have uninstalled any other USB programs which might conflict including Itunes and ascociated garbage (no i didn't put it there my kids did!).
USB debugging is turned on & when i plug in USB i go charge only (as per instructions)
Here's a hint...
When I execute an adb commandwithin command prompt eg [adb devices] i get no devices. When I issue a adb copy command I get the result "device not found" I'm know i'm going nowhere on this until I can get device to properly talk via adb and this is the assistance that i am seeking
further info.
I've tried this procedure on another (winxp) machine with same results.
Ive tried this procedure on another wildfire "s" (that is already rooted) same results
I've temporarily disabled the AVG 2012 virus protection & firewall.
As well as being in the directory that the file adb.exe exists I have also installed SDK so adb appears to run in any directory (please explain ?)
If i plug in usb and go "mount sd card" I can access the sd card on the phone viawindows explorer . in my mind this tells me that I have correct usb driver working.
I've tried a different usb cable AND a different phone
before I uninstalled htc sync i tried it out. it doesn't work and the phone won't sync up to this program ( it rarely works this program, tried it on numerous pc with different htc devices and more often than not it doesn't work)
I'm hoping that someone who is experienced in adb can help me get the phone talking with my pc, keeping in mind that I've done almost everything that I can think of to get my phone to "talk: via usb cable and issue commands. If I can't get my phone to communicate via adb then there is no way I can get past step one
please help me

when you connect the device to the pc with usb debugging turned on do you get the usb debugging notification in your status bar on the phone?
when you plug your device into the pc with debugging enabled what does your device manager recognize it as? mine shows up as attached...
did your antivirus flag up when you were installing the skd or downloading the adb.exe?
Success with debranding but problems with Revolutionary recovery
Thank you heavy_metal_man.
I finally solved the USB driver issue. I ended up completely uninstalling HTC driver installer & HTC BMP USB driver. I then installed HTCDriver3.00.007.exe as a stand alone only. Finally I got it to recognise in device manager.
Important lesson learned. Installing the latest HTC driver off the website which is htc_sync_setup_3.2.20 (which installs 3 modules HTC Sync, HTC driver installer & HTC BMP USB driver) then uninstalling HTC sync did not work for me...I now just have HTC driver installer only.
I asked to install clockwork mod during the revolutionary process, but I suspect it didn't work
Anyway I have now succesfully debranded and "sort of" have root. my Hboot screen now looks like this...
-Revolutionary-
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
MICROP -0622

Problem is when I go into recovery I get the "revolutionary CWM V4.0.1.4" Menu... So far so good.however When I select any item EG bacup & restore, intead of going to the next level menu it just goes to a revolutionary screen with no menu and just hangs. pressing the power button takes me back a level but the vol+ vol- buttons do nothing as there is no menu to select from.
So i can't flash with this current screen. the only way I can get out of it is to remove the battery as the reboot & power off menu items do not work.
.
I have tried re-running the revolutionary Exe file again. It prompts me if i would liketo install CWM and I say yes . It says it's done and takes me into Fastboot USB where I can reboot. but CWM ( The wierd revolutionary model) DOES not work like the CWM that i am accustomed to...
So i STILL can't flash CM7...but I'm getting closer...

That's ok , power is meant to do that, its the back button you need to use the trackball to select stuff also if I remember correctly that recovery has an issue where it will not charge the phone when it is turned off, so I would update that asap I shall give you a link when I'm out of bed, but for the mean time, backup, wipe everything and install cm7+ gapps
ok here is the most up tp date cwm recovery for the buzz as far as i know. and here is the thread it came from something to note, when you jump up tp gingerbread the type of recovery changes as well, so, the new one will not flash sense roms unless the rom has been designed for the new edify type recovery. not sure how many support this though. also the new recovery will NOT flash radios. it does not play well with others but you can always downgrade your recovery temporarily if you need to, or use the rom manager app (which ic an app interface for the recovery) to flash what you need

Success at last
Thanks Heavy_metal_man
Success I now have CM 7.2.0- buzz. I also installed google apps ok.
I guess I shouldv'e read the instructions on flashing a bit closer. I've also got a wildfire "s" as well and it uses the power button to enter so I suppose I just assumed...Truth is that I've only just got this phone last week and I didn't even realise that it had a trackball button ...
This is my first ever root/flash that I have done and I have learned alot from the experience. I specifically got this phone ($10 on ebay) so I coul;d learn to do this without the risk of damaging my own phone. This phone had "issues" when I bought it which is why i got it so cheap. now I have upgraded to CM7 it the issues (eg wireless hotspot would not remain on) have gone.
Soon I hope to have the experience and courage to flash my own phone and my kids phones.
Thanks to H_M_M and all of the XDA forum for helping me out.
