[Q] Auto Tethering ??? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've searched for this but can't found anything that matched with my problem :-(
I have a HTC Desire ( with 2.3.3 ) and a Iconia Tab ( with 3.2 ) and i want to use 3G connection of the Desire for my Iconia but only if i had no wifi signal.
If I'm at home i have wifi on both devices so the Desire don't need to turn on wifi tethering.
But if i leave my home i had to turn on Wifi tethering manually so i have inet on my iconia. Is there a app or a workaround to do this automatically ?
For Example :
If wifi unavailable or not connected - turn on wifi tethering
If wifi available - turn off wifi tethering and connect to wifi
Thanks in advance
Hasan

U can try Tasker from the market..its a paid app..(or a similar app)
U can try setting a task to autoswitch on/off the wifi tethering based on the wifi state

Hi,
I've tried Tasker... The problem is that WIFI is disabled when Tethering is active, so there is no way to check if wifi is near to my phone :-( Or I'm doing something wrong?

Pro 2 and WIFI problems

Hi,
I just bought one and its great.
i have some issues with the WIFI connection.
I would like it to ONLY use WIFI at home and not some 3g or GPRS cause it takes money and a already have a wifi connection, why not use it ?
1. Can someone tell me how or what program to use to set up in the phone to use ONLY WIFI connection ?
2. Is it possible to connect to WIFI whenever like say the weather app wants to update and then close the wifi for itself to save some battery ?'
Or do i have to keep the WIFI on, all day ?
Thanks for your help
Look for NoData from Modaco.
You can disable the providers internet access.
Wifi will still be available.
The programs will use any connection possible, so if Wifi is the only connection, they'll use that connection.
Wifi is also the preferred connection when both are accessable.
To close the wifi you'll have to do this manually I'm afraid.
in wifi settings you can change power save mode to minimize power consumption.
G-Profile can help you. Depending on the location or hour of day it can switch between 3g and wifi. It has a ton of options.
Check it out.

[Q] Internet pass through

Does anyone know if it's possible to use this when using your phone as a WIFI hotspot, or does the hotspot only use your data connection? Cheers
I'm not sure what you're asking, but the Wifi hotspot option only allows you to share your phone's 3g connection with wireless enabled devices. If you're on Orange they've probably blocked it by default so you need to configure it.

He is asking if he can forward the Internet connection from the PC using a USB cable (Internet Passthrough mode) and further pass it to other devices using the WiFi hotspot feature IN THE SAME TIME

Yeah, that's what I want to do. Picked up an iPad 2 on Friday, but don't have WIFI at work. Was hoping to share my PCs internet connection instead of using my data.
I'm in the same boat. No wifi at work and would like to share my pc's interenet through the phone's as a wifi hotspot. Theoritically this should be possible. Any third party softwares which allow this?
Hmm, cant test it now due to some reasons but it's possible to use your phone as a wifi card.
For example connect your phone to wifi and activate usb tethering. Now your on the wifi nework with your pc.
I think that yours should be possible too
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
I'm trying to do the opposite, not usb tethering, rather internet passthrough. Basically I want to use the phone as a wifi router (but not using mobile network as the source of net).

Unfortunately , I guess , this couldn't be possible , because when HTC Desire HD device is connected via " Internet pass through " , the internet connection is neither 3G , nor WIFI . I can't be a hundred percent sure that this is right , but as far as you know there are some GAMELOFT games , which require downloaded CACHE/DATA for playing them . This downloading could be possible , when your device has been connected to Internet , no matter 3G/4G or WIFI .
Once I tried via " Internet pass through " to download this DATA/CACHE files ,but there appeared a notification saying Im neither 3G , nor WIFI connected . So I couldn't succeed in downloading the files . ( I've tried many games , yet has never managed to download DATA/CACHE game files via "Internet pass through" )
My opinion is that WIFI-HOTSPOT can be activated only when you are connected via 3G/4G/WIFI network . But anytime you want , you could try if it is possible via "Internet pass through" be established a WIFI-HOTSPOT
: ))
Create a txt file "qaWifiOnlyMode.txt" and inside write FALSE , put in the root of your sd ... and the game will ask your permission to use carrier network , if internet pass through are active will use the USB connection
(sorry bad english, i'm drunk)

[Q] Wifi tethering not working

I tried wifi tethering on 2.3.3. Once you activate it you can connect to the wifi hotspot very quickly, but whether you connect a device or not, 3 seconds after activating the wifi hotspot my internet connection switches off. Ones you deactivate the wifi hotspot, internet is back on. I have upgraded the system to 2.3.4, but the problem is still there. I want to buy a wifi tablet so I need to share my mobile internet connection. Has this happened to anyone?

what phone do you have? r800i r800x r800 etc. also what wifi tethering app are you using? is your phone rooted?
My phone is a R800i, bootloaders locked, rooted with zerglingrush. I am using the native app, under wifi settings, but I have used sever apps with the same result. I'd rather use the native app. Thanks for answering by the by.
I am also having tethering issues.....
Stock 2.3.3 doomkernel bootloader unlocked and rooted....
Also upgraded to 2.3.4 doomkernel v08 + wifi zip and still having the same problem....
Another phone and tablet cannot see my wifi connection, my phone can see other wifi connections from the other android phone though.....
Wifi and bluetooth works on it as I can connect to my home wifi connection and bluetooth with the car stereo......
Any ideas what I can try?
Going to try a few different software off the market..... Thanks....

Ah, just tried Open Garden from the market and my wifi tethering is working, now I can put to use my all you can eat data plan with tethering
I am also having the issue,
2.3.4, Doomkernel v8 + wifi zip
could try barnacle wifi tether.
Must have been a kernel issue. I flashed DoomKernel and it is now working flawlessly.

I dont think so. I have doomkernel v11 and i use tethering oft on classes and it works perfectly. maybe he is using any app which is turning data off when he starts any wifi - even tethering? this can be apps which help to extend battery life...

Arc s wifi automatically turn off

I have a arc s. I tried to keep the wifi connected (non switch off) but every 20mins or so the wifi will automatically turn off, i.e. it's got the wifi signal but won't be able to connect to internet. does anyone know how to keep the wifi on always?

I had the same problem with my old phone. Go to settings - Wireless & Network - Press MENU - and there should be an option to disable that annoying function.

[Q] Lollipop Wifi Policy

Ive searched the web and read about countless issues about lollipop wifi. but im looking for something specific which i cannot find elsewhere:
on KitKat when connecting to a hotspot (or any wifi for that matter) it would instantly connect to wifi and switch to that connection, regardless if the connection gave internet access or not.
on LP it seems to remain connected to mobile data and wifi does not give an IP address until a hotspot is logged in (using the sign in to wifi notification)
the problem is it doesnt always show, is there a way to switch the wifi policy to not perform a soft handover? or does this need to be baked into a rom?
I have an app that auto-logs into wifi hotspots for me, but because it does not get an IP address and apps are not able to use that connection, it does not work as intended.
FYI i am NOT talking about wifi to mobile data handover, its the other way around
