Physical damage, won't turn on - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dropped it now it's broke, any idea?

m1l4droid said:
I used to do that to my older phones, when I was a teenager, during puberty, when I got mad, I even broke one or two screens, BUT! I never did that to my Desire, or after I got older, passed puberty, got less mad, didn't break anything anymore.

Aha, It's not that, I'll PM you, unless you know from lurking the mafia threads a while back?

Send it to HTC and tell them an unicorn has destroyed it. I'm sure they will believe you

XD Got attacked by a Nyan?

Why is it my serious threads get de-railed

I'm still trying to understand why you would... kick it around, stomp on it and make sure that you can't work with it...
Really? Seriously? Got any anger management courses you can take in your area? I'm just wondering what possessed you to do that.... mind you the unicorn statement is ENTIRELY plausible...

Pm'ed you, it's not like that... I'ma edit OP so I don;t get no more sh* but HTC said it's physical damage caused by me and I'd have to pay (Was expecting that) but I have to send it for quote first, If I then think that's too expensive or don't want to anymore, They charge me £20 to get my phone back otherwise they will 'dispose' of it, I also have to pay for everything that needs replacing they said it'd be a refurb, i'd need a new screen, keyboard, whole casing, volume rocker and more, and on top of all those charges I will have to pay extra because I have S-OFF, or I could get a GSII for £150 or a Sensation for £80, I know what Im gonna do

New phone now, SGSII for £100

Reported my Phone Lost

But I actually dropped it and the screen is cracked but still works, if I turn off mobile networks, wipe data, factory reset, and only use google voice with wifi will sprint/asurion ever know I still have the phone or would they care since they have another $100 of my hard earned cash.
Theres a 3-5 business day backorder on evos, sucks cant swap it out for an epic, I hate radioshack so much.. same old song and dance.

Wait..why do you hate Radioshack?
believe or not when i owned a Palm Pre, the power button stopped working, there was a small crack on the side of the screen....even though the phone was still usable, i reported it lost/stolen to asurion and just kept on using it......until they sent me a new one the next day....i don't see any sense in paying $7/month, paying $100 deductible AND sending back your old phone so they can fix it and sell it again and make more money

I tried exchanging it the first time before i dropped it because of major light leakage and some old fart asshole was trying to charge me $99 Radioshack replacement bull**** where they send my phone in and have it fixed and then "replaced" or some scam like that.. told him going through insurance was a better deal because I actually get an Actual Replacement phone versus they glue my screen up better and send it back to me. Grump old ****s @ RS, Never buying anything from that place again, I'll go straight to the source.

Not to be all "morals based" or anything... but I guess if I was ever trying to mislead an insurance company, I sure as heck wouldn't post about it! They are all advanced and stuff and have figured out how to use the internet... They don't like it when people mislead them.

Well, that's fraud.
But the fact is they can look at the phone and say "that drop that caused the screen to crack caused the usb failure" and it won't be covered.

Truetrue butttttttt what if i say that the usb port went bad about a month ago and i just cracked the screen yesterday?
lol if you DROPPED YOUR PHONE THEN PAY UP! People like you are the reason why insurance is so high! you screwed up, YOU PAY FOR YOUR MISTAKE! have a good day.
ps. OR YOU CAN SAY, "I WANT TO UPGRADE TO THE EVO 3D!" They will let you trade that phone in even if it is broke because they know they're making a sale. lol.

well im already pissed because i dropped it January and the screen broke. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT i didnt have to pay anything they just got me a new one with no fees or anything. The person i talked to said that in January they used the manufacturers warranty to replace the screen and now apparently it's not covered..... Also how would i trade it for an evo 3d!?
They'll just say well why are you just bringing it in now, a month later? Also it'll be SO much more suspicious that it 'hasn't been working for a month' right after they said it'd cost 100$ to get it repaired, and mroe of a fact why didn't you say it was faulty then? Though it'll default to the drop that cracked the screen > broke the usb port > 100$ fix.
Ever heard the phrase "you break it, you buy it"? Guess what, you broke it. Now grow up & buy it.
If you don't want to spend the $100 for a replacement, you can try to fix it yourself. It'll still cost you, but not as much. It doesn't matter what else is wrong with the phone, you're going to have to pay the deductible since the screen is cracked, If you can't afford it, borrow someone's old flip phone or something.

It was NOT covered in January, that was a mistake/misinterpretation that was quickly changed back.

When did you buy the phone ? Depending when you did, it was probably under the HTC warranty and that's why they replaced it. Now its under sprints tep and they want you to pay the deductible

No it really was covered in January... it's not now.... no one got a notice of either changes.... The change was originally made in October of last year and they did say... "that a cracked screen was covered" and ALOT of people took advantage of that..... soooooo now the official policy is "Two or less cracks and no more than an inch on either" Official as of today but maybe not tomorrow you dig?
Ohh ya and as for which came first... once the screen is cracked..... no one cares it's just $100 please.
GO INTO A SPRINT STORE AND ASK IF YOU CAN DO AN UPGRADE TO THE EVO3D. ALSO NOTE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRADE YOUR CURRENT PHONE IN AND GET 100 BUCKS OFF. LOL! 50/50 chance of it working. lol. now if it is a lady, you can always say "I'll pleasure you like no guy before in the back room" you might get it for free. LOL!!!!! but of course that only works if they are black and fat. LMAO!!!!!! oh oh. I mean white and fat. LMAO!

I'll probably just buy a new digitizer. I'm due for an upgrade in may so I'll probably sell my evo in June and get the next evo in June

[Q] Really thinking of buying one, but still a few fears...

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster :3 Iv done a LOT of research on this phone (borderline overkill) but I still have a few questions about it:
1) I read about a problem with the screen where a hairline crack under the top-layer glass would just randomly appear...how normal is this
2) For retailers, how good is Negri, Expansys and L2D2 in terms of warranty? like in the case of said hairline crack? -I live in the US in case that would affect how they would do warranty
I really really want this stunning looking phone xD I already know about the issues with the color tint and radios but they seem like they could possibly be fixed on the software side so I'm not too worried there. I have no experience with the 3 listed companies and I don't want to plop 500-700 for a phone and be left out in the water y'know?
any and all help/input/opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Okay first, I've never gotten this line once I'm thinking it varies from device to device. And also, what carrier are you on?
the all mighty...AT&T
I tried to get a warranty replacement for the vibrator through Negri Electronics and never got a reply.
No hairline crack. I love this phone and learned to live with the weird vibration. I bought from Negri no problem. Besides the warranty thing... I think I wasn't persistent enough with asking them for a replacement. Either way, it shouldn't take more than once to get their attention, and I'm still a little bummed out about it all.

I know if the screen where to crack on me and they refused me a replacement Id raise hell xD I have the motorola backflip, and while a rock would be a drastic upgrade I decided I would treat myself to a really nice and long lasting phone. Im still a wee bit paranoid about the hairline crack but, who knows. maybe it is just a small number of devices...my heart demands I buy the phone now while my mind tells me to make absolutely sure this wont backfire on me haha

you have a point. I mean, I know that there's always a chance of such things but I guess the fact that it dose cost quite a pretty penny and got paranoid when I read about the screen crack that I wanted to find out really just how bad it was. I think I'll make the purchase on my next paycheck and hope that I wont get one that will break so easily lol but it's good to know that Negrie and Expansys offer the 1yr warranty just in case

Thing is, you go to any forum for any new device and you'll see reports of manufacturing defects. You shouldn't be spending your last penny on an unlocked phone for any situation. There will always be a chance you'll buy it and it'll be broken and you won't get a replacement. Just keep it in mind.
If you decide its worth it, then get it!

=edit=
one last thing, who dose offer better customer support and the like? Negrie or Expansys? and Im guessing no one has really heard of LD2D xD
the gsm version doesnt really have radio issues, thats the lte version. But i do worry about the screen crack. So far ive been good.
Never heard of a hairline crack but ensquared will also sell you a warranty for the GSM version

[Q] Faulty LTE Radio? (VZW) Which Part to Swap Out?

I received a CLNR replacement from VZW this weekend due to massive banding on my original device. Take it out inspect it for scratches, fire up the phone, check out the screen for banding etc. No scratches, screen has no banding/dead pixels and I assume all is well! Much to my dismay when I try to DL apps, surf the net or stream Netflix , make calls etc. the phone cannot keep a signal to save it's life. It has full 4G signal and after I access data or make a call, the bars are gone and there's a x in the signal bars. When this occurs, I cannot makes calls or access data etc etc. When I switch from LTE/CDMA to CDMA only I have a stable data connection, and calls can be made etc. Would I need to switch out the entire main motherboard or would I just need to swap out the antenna? I've been searching around for an answer and cannot seem to find one. Checked out a few tear downs and it seems simple enough to remove. I do have experience tearing apart and rebuilding so I do not see any issues. Thank you for any input!
If you got a CLNR and its faulty, get another replacement. Why would you try to open it and fix it, potentially breaking and voiding warranty, when you can just get it replaced for free?

Well I'm tired of playing the warranty exchange game and getting a crappier one. The screen on the one w/ the faulty radio is PERFECT. No banding, no discoloration etc. Besides I like to rip crap apart, if I break it I'll just buy another one . Plus I don't see any void warranty stickers in plain view ;o.

If you have ever gotten a Verizon CLNR you would know. I've received THREE Nexus' with scratched screens out of the box. I'm tired of the asshattery of their CLNR program. It might seem retarded to you, but after dealing w/ duds for 3-4 exchanges straight, see how you feel after that. Besides I will have fun opening it up. If it breaks I buy another one. I have the $$$ for it so who cares?

Well if you're so loaded, I'm surprised you dealt with CLNR in the first place... why not just buy a new phone every time you get a scratch on the screen there moneybags?
I dealt with it at Sprint and after 4 replacements I left my contract with them. I know it sucks, but seriously choosing to rip your phone apart and replace an antenna (which may or may not fix the problem) when you can have them replace the phone free makes absolutely no sense to me. CLNR sucks, but you're bound to get an acceptable one eventually, or you should be able to complain after so many replacements and get an actually new device.

Battery Expansion and Screen

My screen is buckling, and when I asked the Sprint Store people, they claim it's from charging too long.
I've never had a device do this, so I never thought about it, but they showed me several devices they have on display that are doing the same thing.
Sucks.
I want to get another phone, but I'm on contract until May 2018.
Only then can I get another phone with an installment plan from Sprint. Another way these companies screw us.

No one screwed you, you singed the contract on your own...
Why people still sign contracts for phones? I understand for business but I really don't think it's that much cheaper on the long run.

What?
The contract I signed allowed for a new upgraded phone every two years.
Since this phone, the HTC 10, they changed it.
That's what I'm talking about.
Maybe whatever is talking in your head needs to be looked at.
Force them to repair it by letter. A swollen battery can blow up bad and could burn down your house or burn you.
If not contact a lawyer and ask for advice.
And second dont believe everything what these honkey tonk sellers tell you. Most or them dont even finished school and think they are smart.
I could tell you storys...
