theres not one out that's usable on an everyday level, and don't expect one for a couple weeks. gingerbread came out less than a week ago, and the code wasn't released till friday.

I agree with everyone who has said this so far.
Evervolv and OMGB are actually pretty good ROMs right now; the *only* thing I'd complain about is that they get really, really hot during NORMAL usage (20 minutes of Internet browsing will jack your internal temperature up past 100 degrees). But, they're very fast and, oddly (given the heat issue), pretty good on battery life. Only real issues are GPS & camera but those will get hammered out probably before New Year's, if not soon after.
And of course, whenever the N1 gets the 2.3 OTA update, everyone will be in the Gingerbread business. So I'd just sit back, relax, and try some of the current GB ROMs, if only to prepare yourself for the awesomeness that will be the polished products of 2010/2011. XD

Okay, I've been browsing xda since having a tmobile g1, and while I appreciate everything the developers do to advance things, im kind of annoyed with kingxclick or whatever name he goes by. It just seems to me he appears in various forums and takes existing roms, modifies them very slightly, and claims them as his own. He did that on the g1 forum and here he is on the evo forum doing the same. Has he contributed anything original, or is he just the hack I think he is?

That's what I figured. The sad thing is that he pops up on the evo forum and nobody knows what he's up to. If he is providing fixes and developing his own roms, that would be one thing, but if he's just taking various rom fixes and implementing them in "king's evo! 8.73!" or whatever other flashy named rom, he is a disgrace to true developers and he should just be banned again.

Well I'm not sure I mean according to some all I do is swap out some PNG files and then call it my own. I will say this when I used my own base everyone wanted me to use Calkulins.
Well, considering his site isn't even active anymore (404's on the whole site), I don't think we'll be seeing much of him.
I find this post a little amusing. I remember when he was making kernels. I followed very closely, was excited about the next new King Kernel! Almost donated to him!. GE was asking for donations because he didn't even OWN an EVO!. And still made good kernels!
...then one day he posts on his twitter that he finally got his!.... Vibrant?. I questioned this move on his kernel forum and stated this seemed like a 2 faced move. Asking for donations to buy an evolution to better develop his kernels, only.to buy something else.
I was chastised for questioning the great king on his thread! And he even commented saying "geez, lighten up, I'm still saving for an evo. They are sold out here is all". I stopped visiting that thread and stopped using his kernels. I felt that was a really low move and was amazed so many people followed him after that.

99% of ROM makers do the exact same thing as him... They are just taking pieces others developed and putting them together. Most of the ROM makers/chefs couldn't code their way out of a box.

Everyone said once we had source for froyo we would have all these amazing roms and kernels. So where are they at? We have 4 custom roms which only 2 are fully functional and 1 oc kernel.I'm only counting the ones that have eb13 files. Its been a week how much longer do they need?

TO THE OP and austin420: Stop *****ing about where's the roms and kernel's for EB13, IF YOU WANT A NEW ROM LEARN TO MAKE ONE! The people who Develop these roms take time out of THEIR LIVES to create a rom or kernel to share with the world so that others like YOU TWO can have them. XDA is about development not free loaders complaining about lack of roms, I personally have not attempted to create a rom yet because I am still learning the android system, but unlike you to I am VERY GRATEFUL for every single rom that is on this site, as well as all the kernels for every phone. I'm getting sick and tired of people disrespecting our developers and themers we have in our community. If you don't like what they do or how they do it, then sell your device and keep it moving. This is not their job, it isn't their means of income, so they aren't obligated to keep you posted on updates or follow your request. If you donate to them understand that it's a donation and not payment for services. We should be grateful for them and the things that they do for our devices. Your 2 cents are not needed in their threads, so leave them be if you don't like what they do. If you do have some advice for them, make sure you don't come off being a **** about it. We need to more respectable towards these people who take time out of their lives to do what they enjoy to and they are kind enough to share it with us. I've administrated/moderated forums in the past and any forum is only as good as the moderation it has. There will always be trolls posting garbage all over the place. That's the nature of the internet; but the level of moderation will determine whether the forum is a constructive place to be with a positive atmosphere our a steaming ****pile.
No one wants their opinions or ideas censored or stifled. That's not the point of moderation. But we need to get rid of the **** posts and the people who post them.
When you have a group of people posting for the sole purpose of pissing others off to a point that developers are leaving, someone needs to step in.

They certainly could. JB already includes wifi-direct, so all they would need to do is tap into that. Although I think it is just as gimmicky as Beam in general.

Android Beam allows apps to share all kinds of data. Day 2 of Google I/O will have a session on Beam and NFC discussing new APIs presumably to allow even more sharing of content through beam for app developers.
What kind of connection speed does NFC have anyway? I was pondering what kind of cool things I could do with a tablet and phone with NFC just today. Also I've yet to come across anybody else with a nexus to try out beam with yet.
104-424 kbps max is the standard.
NFC is only going to make the secure connection, the data will have to be transferred via wifi or bluetooth.

NFC is not necessarily used for the transfer but only to exchange data (like data telling the app where to get the object). For the user, they will not know whether the object was downloaded over the data connection or from the other phone.

Personally I don't think there are *enough* threads about JB. Moar! They sure beat the Make My Purchase Decisions For Me! and the There's An Insignificant Defect With My Phone! threads. And as noted above me, it don't matter if it gets sent over NFC or not, as the end user I wouldn't know the difference.

Not bad, cluttered. It's unnecessary for threads like this when there's already 10 others that have covered these questions. Also wouldn't it be more appropriate to ask this question in a thread full of people already talking about the topic, rather than making a whole new thread about one aspect of the topic?
