[Q] [CWM] Flashable EH06 - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I have an Epic running EG22 with Purple CWM. I was wondering if there's a flashable .zip of a stock-ish EH06? I prefer CWM to ODIN. I think it goes back to my G1 days. Anything out there, or is it all ODIN based at this point?

Q) rooted el30..how do I change recovery to cwm?

I am on acs cwm and just want go to standard blue cwm. I can't read acs recovery very well and hardly at all when I am outside. On the cyan/blue cwm I can read it better. When I dl the recovery and flash it in acs recovery it goes to the cwm I want but it doesn't stick.
Do you mean it goes back to acs? Or it reverts back to stock recovery?
Try odining in the .tar for cwm5 ill link it

when you flashed the acs recovery, did you also install the "SU EGFH" zip file also? you need to do that as well.

Yeah, everything is working great I just can't see the dark blue acs recovery very well. Hell, if I could theme the recovery I would lol, but I will just Odin this cwm.

Very simple, I odined the recovery tar and it replaced the acs recovery. I could care less about old backups. Now it 3 finger boots cwm instead of acs. Thank you!
Download ROM Manager then choose Install Recovery and then at least through ROM Manager you will have CWM 5.0.2.7. But Biggie is right to say try to odin it in.

That doesn't work if you came from stock el30 and used acs method. Rom manager downloads a flashabke recovery and you can flash it from acs. It will take you to cwm after you flash it, but it will not survive a reboot.
This Odin method made cwm stick and now is my recovery.

[HOWTO] Root FB27

If you flashed the unrooted stock FB27 tar before Calkulin's CWM zip, then you can use these instructions to root it.
Another reason why you may want to flash the unrooted stock FB27 via Odin instead of Calkulin's is because it preserves your current data!
To get root:
Follow instructions 1 through 3 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505792
After performing step 3, shut your phone off by pulling the battery out.
Get into Odin mode and flash the following tar:
http://www.mediafire.com/?wm1p5wpkvz5xv58
You now have root
Nice thanks! Will help out p who jumped ship with the tar to bad I can't use this yet :/

Sorry in advance for the noob question oleh, but is it possible to keep all data with the odin method even when coming from stock-rooted ek02 gb w/cwm5027? Or is that only true for people coming from an earlier leaked Ics rom/other 4.0.3 rom?

Why would you pull the battery?
I found a new easier method for root. Just flash Culkulin's rooted stock FB27 from recovery. Yes, stock recovery. It works and no yellow triangle.

I am actually not sure. I came from ICS FB17, so all my data was retained. Maybe someone else that came from GB can answer this

The CWM that was referenced in the other post did not have a shutdown option, only reboot. So to shut it down I had to pull the battery out. If you use CWM that has the shutdown option then you can just use that

But doing that also reset your data, right?
This is mostly for people who already flashed the stock before Calk released his pre-rooted version. This also does not give you the yellow triangle

[Q] [ROM HELP] No Data When Flashing Custom ROMs

Hey guys. I recently got an old Samsung Epic 4G Touch due to my HTC Evo 4G LTE breaking from water damage. I've been able to root the Galaxy and flash a version of jellybean (beanstalk). However, when I try to flash any other ROMs than this, the data doesn't work. I've tried flashing the correct modems (I think) to no avail. Any suggestions?
Can you post a screen shot of your about phone page that shows the modem. What carrier are you on?

You probably need to update your Profile and PRL. Flash back to a Touchwiz ROM to get it done... I would flash an ICS version to not worry about changing the modem.

I don't have info on FB27. If you are on Sprint it should be GB27. That is the modem. You should slow down before you brick the phone. You should have some one-click files on your PC to take your phone back to stock if need be. Also you should have a touchwiz modem as well as an ICS modem on the phone. I would suggest FL24 and GB27. A copy of EL29 direct boot. A copy of AGATs recovery. A copy of Philz touch recovery. A copy of Mobile Odin Lite. To update to the current PRL you can do as @Surj138 says just so you don't have to flash modems. I think you are on the wrong modem anyway. Flash a modem in recovery. Don't do it through Mobile Odin.

FB27 should be fine... Any gingerbread or ics modem will work. But I would update to FL24 anyway.

Sorry, this is all still fairly new to me. I'm used to flashing ROMs easily on my Evo lol. Could you point me to a tutorial that will show me how to do this?

Just remember that if you want to flash a non-touchwiz JB or KK ROM, you have to be on a ICS modem (bigmike suggested FL24). If you are on touchwiz JB (stock, or one of the touchwiz custom ROMs for this phone), you can flash a JB modem (such as GB27).
I think you have to be on touchwiz to change the phone number. You have to be on touchwiz to update profile and PRL. But you can be on an ICS modem in touchwiz to do that.
If you want 4g on this phone, you have to be on touchwiz -- or at least you did, until last Monday (Nov. 3), when dastin released a version of CM11 for this phone that works with 4g. That's what I am running on my phone and it works for me.
