What's a normal amount of time for process "Android System" to keep the phone in partial-wake state?
I ask because i'm on a mission to make battery time a non-issue for myself, and this is last element of power drain that I can identify. I check spare parts almost religiously throughout the day, and I routinely find that Android System partial wake accounts for significantly more battery usage that other partial wake processes (like 10x more) and accounts for about 5% of my total power usage overall. Is there anything I can do or is this all account sync and background data?
I am already running:
SRF 1.2
TWZ 1.1.1 all undervolted frequencies, no OC
EF02 Modem
V6 Ram script on MegaRam 2 setting
KAK, and 3GTurbo scripts
Sprint Voicemail removed through SDX app remover
Email.apk removed through SDX app remover
lcdtest.apk removed through SDX app remover
SprintAndroidExtension.apk removed through SDX app remover
SNS and DRM services frozen through TB
With all this I still lose about 3% every hour idle. Can I do somethign about this or am I SOL?
Seems normal to me...

The only possible solution I can think of is the 0 android system bug that some people have had where it keeps running. I believe Rodderik has a fix for that starting in Genocide 1.1 Final and his kernels after that

I might try 1.1. I was running 2.0 after my latest install and it made my phone heat up all weird while charging. I'd give it another shot, though. Any advantage of 2.0 over 1.1 besides dual booting?

I can't exactly remember the changes between 1.1 Final and 2.0 besides the dual boot but I think he made a change to a script. If you don't need the dual boot and don't like 2.0, 1.1 Final is great

I'm seeing 65% android system. Really would like to see this sip battery like my Evo does. Juice defender has helped but only because it disables radios...that drain big time when the phone is off.
What rom/kernel/other tweaks are you running?
That number sounds outrageous by any account though. Is that all the time or just recently?

I froze a few services, uninstalled juice defender, turn off auto sync and it seems to be managing well. Also am testing v6 script. So far so good.

Is it me or what? I see everybody talking about Gingerbread roms, saying the're fast and smooth, etc. But after flashing like 15 different roms from different builds I always find they lag or leak too much RAM. I always go back to SRF 1.2. Can anyone give me details?

CM7 is my current daily driver, as long as you can live without being able to dial 911 and can live without 4g (both not really a concern for me)
My other choices that worked very well is ACS ICS 5.5, Marcusant Revival v1 and Urban Precision. All very snappy when combined with the latest Samurai Kernel.
Are you doing a full wipe before flashing? Also, rumor has it, wiping your SD card and reformatting it has been very helpful as well, although, I have yet to have the need to do that.
Don't know what you mean. I have never found evidence of any RAM leak. Check the task killer of Memory Booster Lite to see all the garbage using your memory. Add to that programs filling caches and not giving that back when closed and I always have 170MB free RAM. I have no lag on Legendary.

I've had pretty good luck with the SensiSimple
I'm using Advance Task Killer. I've read many times that it is no good for froyo and gingerbread but it has always made my phone faster.
At first I have like 135mb free approx. But after 1 hour of use it goes down to 95mb or less and never go back. And yes, I always wipe all data, cache and davlik cache 3 times before installing any ROM.

If you use the browser it caches all your pages and stores them in memory. I have found that an hour or so later it gives back some of that memory but not all of it. ATK is not made for GB. Get Memory Booster Lite and see where that 40MB is going. There are no "leaks" just poorly written apps.

Gingerbread incorporates video acceleration to utilize the hardware better for one thing.
I'm running Thunderhawk 3.2 with ShadowKernel and my phone is the best it has ever been. Battery life is 24h+ with 3h screen on time (stock battery), and is very responsive.
I am running Supercharger Update9 RC4 Super 768hp with the home locked in memory (no redraws), this is not great for multi-tasking, but it ensures that my phone will be as responsive as possible every time I pick it up.
I am also undervolting using Tegrak as my phone will undervolt far more using Tegrak compared to Voltage Control which results in better battery life.
When set up right GB can be far more responsive than Froyo could ever be, and that has a lot to do with the GPU acceleration some parts of the UI takes advantage of.

oops noob double post
I just posted the latest update to my rom.
Here's some battery stats I've achieved on it.
When in my pocket, my phone loses under 1% an an hour. It does phenomenally well when I'm using it heavily.
don't know if this is right thread to ask, but with some builds I have the option in the add email account, to select corporate email. Right know I'm on cm7 and have the option but thinking of going back to legendary. Wondering if there is a apk or some way of getting that as a add on, this is the only wat i have gotten my work email to work on my phone...thanks
The latest MTD MarcusantROM is my goto ROM now.
No matter which ROM i choose wether its 2.3 based or 4.0 based, Calks or Phantom. Even CM9, Team Dirt. I always get crap battery life. ANDROID OS and ANDROID SYSTEM hog the battery!!! Why is this. The only thing that has not changed will i have been flashing all these roms is the Modem. I am currrently running FF18 Modem. Could this be the culprit? Please help guys!
The android os usage in ICS is normal. What do you consider bad battery life?
So many things affect battery life. Low signal will wipe out a battery in no time, synching multiple accounts (email, facebook is notoriously bad...) and software you may have installed. How is the battery drain when the phone is sleeping? Since there really isn't much we can do about battery while you're actually using the phone, the next step is to improve on sleep efficiency and this will help the battery life overall.
Try installing BetterBatteryStats. There is a thread here on XDA you can search for and download and install this app. The best way to use it is to let the phone sleep on battery without using it for a minimum of 2-3 hours, overnight is best. Then view the kernel and partial wakelocks to see if something isn't allowing the phone to sleep properly.
battery battery life?
Couldn't you also use multiple profiles in an OC app to undervolt and underclock the phone when it sleeps? (screen off profile set to 800MHz and screen on 1200MHz) Just a suggestion, hope this helps.
I have to charge my phone twice a day because I am on it all the time. My ave battery life 11hr 47min. Running Badass Battery Monitor.
Turn off auto sync for your Google account on your phone and manually sync it from time to time. Before I did this android was at the top of the list in the battery. Now screen time dominates everything else in usage.

Yes I did this too, it helps a lot
Yes, synching too often is a killer.
Don't forget about the phone radio too: wifi/bluetooth/gps/data/4G all can have a negative impact if left running.
Someone recently posted that at his workplace, he had zero signal and he could barely make it through the day. He discovered turning data off entirely in that scenario saved battery in a huge way.

I use to have awesome battery life pre ICS, oh and I forgot to mention that I have the nexus extended battery what is running and how can I kill it....I use to get around 19 to 25+ hours before zero now I don't. I have tried to celebrate the battery by letting it run to zero, wiping battery stats and having it charge up to 100% powered off and it still suck. What am I doing wrong? Also I enclosed a pic of my current battery stats for all to see

Also try out CPU Sleeper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745516
This is also hosted in google play.
Description of the badass governor:
Badass removes all of this "fast peaking" to the max frequency. On a typical system the cpu won't go above 918Mhz and therefore stay cool and will use less power. To trigger a frequency increase, the system must run a bit @ 918Mhz with high load, then the frequency is bumped to 1188Mhz. If that is still not enough the governor gives you full throttle. (this transition should not take longer than 2-5 seconds, depending on the load your system is experiencing)
Badass will also take the gpu load into consideration. If the gpu is moderately busy it will bypass the above check and clock the cpu with 1188Mhz. If the gpu is crushed under load, badass will lift the restrictions to the cpu.

I just recently rooted my SGS3 I747M and installed a custom ROM (SlimBean). My main reason for rooting was to get rid of the annoying bloatware. For those who are veterans to this process, what are some of your tips for the new rooted user to make the most of it?
Basic things such as advice that can improve the stability, speed, or battery life of the phone to applications that improve productivity and added convenience such as Adblock Plus.
So far, I'm enjoying the battery life due to the "dark" setting of most of the phone, it doesn't heat up as much anymore too! Although that can be attributed to the bloatware not waking the phone when it should be sleeping.
Just a tip mms doesn't go thru with adblocker known issue.
I use ds battery saver turns off wifi and data when screen off also greenify hibernates apps when your not using them got an extra 2 hours or of the battery most days just from those two apps

try installing a kernel.. battery life improves some with a better kernel. BMS or leankernel are excellent choices.
I went inverted apps cause people claim it helps with battery since the screen is darker when using inverts. http://www.designrifts.com/teamblackedoutapp/category/blacked-out-apps/
Some rooted apps I use are rom toolbox, sd maid, cache cleaner ng, greenify and wake lock detector.

No problem. I have been using TB for ever and just discovered it recently lol
So the stock ota 4.3 is awesome for performance and smoothness , but for battery it is absolutely horrible, even with a rooted phone and a 7000 extended battery im only getting about a day and 12 hours with about 8ish hours of screen time, then when i was on 4.1.2 i was getting 2 days 12 hours with 15+ish hours of screen time
Im using the same apps as before , greenify , deep sleep battery , mediaserver killer, and wake lock and everything looks normal like 4.1.2 but draining way way faster
Side note i also turned off all my notifications , turned off vibration, turned all gps, locations, off, brightness all the way down, sync is off that dont seem to help
Anyone else notice this or is just me? Anything i could be missing that i should check
