Sending Phone to Repair - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
First I now there is another topic open but there is not the answer I'm looking for.
I not realy sure about something. Last weekend my gps stoped working and tomorro w HTC wil come to pickup my phone.
The phone wat rooted and there was another rom installed on it. When I did this I have not made a nandroid backup. But now I did the following: I have flashed the newest RUU, Downgraded it to 1.32 to do S-ON, Then I flashed it again to the newest RUU.
My question is is it safe toe sent it back?

Yes it should be perfectly safe to send as long as its S-ON and you've flashed an RUU...

Oh thanks then it's safe

Too bad that I'm going to send in for repair too. My device stops making sound, don't know if it was speakers or other problems.

If it was on 2.3.3 with the latest update I have noticed that playing music for a prolonged time on the Speaker using the Dolby Mobile causes it to squeak. Restarting the phone always works for me, maybe not in your case though.

[Q] Confused :( 3 UK Desire with 1.22.771.1

Hello All,
I am used to flashing my HTC Touch Pro 2 and other windows mobile devices, but i have just moved onto a desire and am having a nightmare.
I bought the Desire on PAYG from 3 in the UK as they were up to a point supplying unbranded phones, but just my luck I had to have one from the new batch which is branded and cost me £18 to get an unlock code to use the phone on T-Mobile.
So as I stand I have an Sim Unlocked Desire thats branded to 3 UK.
The Rom version is 1.22.771.1 and Hboot 0.80 which I believe is an issue with rooting so that I can use other Roms.
To be honest I am quite happy with 1.22.771.1, but have a strange issue that on some occassions when someone calls me the ringtone starts, but then cuts out and there is no further sound, although they are still calling and I can answer the call.
So I really want to root and then switch roms.
I have read and read and read, and I believe my best chance is unrevoked, as I have seen a couple of posts which say it works with 1.22.771.1, can anyone confirm this?
Also if I flash to a custom rooted Froyo 2.2 rom, will I still be able to return to 1.2x roms should I not like it? As I have also read that unrevoked, does not work with 2.2, or is this just if you use the OTA roms?
If anyone out there can give me a do this 123 guide to get myself sorted I would really apparciate it.
Thanks
Stephen.
Hi
The issue with the ring tone is due to a setting,
Setting > sound > quiet on pick up
In check this option
sent from my C64
SeArch for a guide, its easy.
But you can return to any Rom you like, as long as your rooted.
I mention this due to if download the new ota you will lose root, and I don't think a method has been found to root the new 2.2 Rom yet.
sent from my C64
Sorry on my desire, but if you install a 2.2 Rom from xda you won't lose root.
But if download via ota and install you will lose root.
sent from my C64
So are you confirming I can root 1.22.771.1 with unevoked? Then install a rooted 2.2 rom?
Regards the Setting > sound > quiet on pick up should that be on or off? to cure the sound issue as i have that set as off.
thanks stephen.

I can confirm that you can't, and I wouldn't recommend that you try. The clockwork recovery image that unrevoked uses never loads, so the phone can't be updated in any way.
What I tried was slightly more extreme. I attempted to downgrade the HBOOT version, so I could flash a lower version generic RUU ROM. Unfortunately, whilst this worked as far as I can tell, the screen simply stopped working. I could actually receive phone calls, but nothing would come up on the screen.
The bad news is that even after flashing back to the original Three RUU ROM, the screen remained blank. The good news for me is that I'm due to get a replacement phone under warranty.
Personally, I can't even tell if this is a software issue or a hardware issue unique to me (I think it might be hardware as I should at least be able to boot into the bootloader), although this time I'll wait for Three to push the update, as I'm not prepared to take the risk of not being able to use my phone again.

I had Hboot 0.80 on my Desire with 1.21.405.2 and I used the Unrevocked3 method to root. But mine was unbranded from Three.
I now have 2.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775) with 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 Radio.
All works great.

just to clarify it,im using a froyo t-mobile branded desire,so i just need to debrand it and flash it another rom,or i need to debrand it and downgrade it to eclair first?
no you need to debrand using goldcard. root with unrevoked, flash another rom rooted sense or custom aosp. your choice. if possible keep a record of your current rom by looking at shipped roms.com for warranty purposes.
actually my set doesnt have any warranty, since my desire is a singapore set,n im using/living at malaysia

How to go back to stock ROM?

Hi all,
Strangely, I failed to find the answer of, what otherwise seems like, a simple question. I am running a custom Rom right now on my DHD, and I want to go back to stock Rom because I am selling this phone. Can someone point me to a guide, maybe already written by someone.
Thanks,

Are you having the problem doing it manually, if so try using FULL-WIPE.

Did you make a goldcard before rooting? if not, this could be the issue.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
yes, i did create a Goldcard when i first did it a long time ago.. Tried FULLWIPE.ZIP as well.
at this stage im going to have to send it back to VF with Android revolution on it..
kiwiboy1978,
Check this guide / links to guides for your very problem;
The Complete Guide 2 Return Rooted Phone Back 2 Stock for Vodafone Australia Warranty
The procedure should be the similar for othe carriers, although you might have to obtain the HBOOT & Recovery image from elsewhere.
Can you explain about the goldcard question. If I DIDNT use a goldcard would it cause this? I didnt think that I could root the mobile in the first place without the goldcard.
Its just weird as every other ROM installs without a hitch. Just the stock Vodafone ROM is doing this. And of course its the one I really need back on there!
aargh!!
**clarification, i did use a goldcard as far as i remember*
I never had to use a gc, as not carrier branded. Reading on xda, others have had issues trying to downgrade to stock without the gc. Without it they were getting cid mismatch or such when trying to flash.
Even if you have cid 11111111 now, it is still possible to check what your cid was before. Maybe this is part of the "check" it does when trying to flash back and giving cid errors/mismatch.
Check original in ADB, command prompt;
adb shell getprop ro.cid
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
ok, checked my CID and its VODAP021.. does this sound right?
shouldnt it be as you suggest 111111111?
If you did it in adb, that confirms that your phone was definitely carrier branded and you need s gc.
If you go to fastboot, system info, if your phone is s-off, cid will show 11111111.
I'm away atm, and can't really to any digging for you, sorry. There are a few threads going around on the topic, incl the one I gave you previously.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
ok. remade a goldcard got the stock ROM on it, same issue.
under system info it says S-OFF but the CID is still VODAP021. do I need to root this phone again using Visionary?
Deleted, been a long day.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hi, just wanted to thank you anyway.
Those guides didnt work in my case. What I ended up doing was re-rooting the phone. Making a backup of the Android-revolution HD rom through ROM Manager, then replacing the contents of the backup folder with the contents of the Vodafone ROM.
This worked.
Cheers.
Good to hear.

[Q] Possible to completely re-virginise a rooted set?

Hi.
I rooted and flashed my DHD with Cyanogen mod initially soon after getting it, and currently have LeeDroid running. Today, flashed to the latest verison of LeeDroid... (and don't think the 2 are linked), my speaker promptly stopped working. Telephone calls uisng the handset are fine, connecting a wired handfree to the 3.5mm port get ssound as well. But, activiting the speakerphone phone during a call, or media playback (videos I had made using the camera) is completely silent.
I've tried the basic, resetting to defaults, flashing back to an earlier version of LeedRoid, which had worked perfectly for weeks on the phone before, but, the speakerphone seems goosed.
The phone is still under warranty, so, thinking of sending it back to 3. GIven the phone is rooted, s-off, different Kernel, Radio etc etc, if I flash to stock HTC firmware, would they be able to tell if I've been tinkering iwth alternate firmware?.. and.. consequenlty, refuse warranty service?.
Is there anyway to completely make the phone factory fresh?
Thanks.
Riz

Just download the latest rru. You can get from shipped-roms.com.
Thanks Parttime...
I seem to recall reading somewhere that S-Off (or possibly something else) cannot be reverted once done, and even flashing with stock firmware doesn't put it back.. is it true?...
Btw, whats the 1.72.405.3 Rom at http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace?
I thouhght 1.32.405.6 was the latest one, but it had some battery drain issues, so, 1.32.405.3 is the receommended stock firmware?.
Riz
Why do you care?
The software is not under warranty (you did read the EULA didn't you?).
The worst they can do is reload the original HTC software.

The recommended version is the latest one, 1.8x.xx. There are many threads already to explain this.
You are wrong..
1,8.x.x appear to be carrier specific roms...
flashing even using the stock rom RUU executable DOES NOT turn S-off back to on, its needs to be done before de-rooting the phone...
thats what I've managed to dig up in searches...
I could be wrong... But...
I put too much of your quote in. I was saying that it is not true that you can't undo S-OFF (Go back to S-On).
To do that you can use the one click tool.
Sent from my Ericsson T39m
Actually, the question was quite clear. Anyway, as it happens, the S-On needs to be done before flashing the stock firmware as you still need root access for the S-on tool.
Since I had already upgraded to 1.32.405.6 RUU , I needed to get root back, so followed the guide on the Cyanogenmod wiki (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_HD:_Rooting) to get root (adb, push psneuter etc)... got it to the point of temp root... ran s-on tool, the phone status in recovery now states S-On. The next step was to flash 1.32.405.3 as PD98IMG.ZIP. I had planned to do it anyway, just to try see if the speaker MAY come to life again..
Was getting too late, so, went to sleep.. and today... was woken up by the phone rining for a phone call... speakerphine is working, video files play with proper sound.
Don't really know what fixed it. When I lost the speakerphone, I was on LeedDroid 3.0.1 (for about a day and a half), I then downgraded to the previous LeedRoid version (which was 2.2.3 and worked wonderfully), no joy with the sound... then flashed right down to stock 1.32.405.6, no joy for 2 days.. during whihc I poked the 3.5 mm jack with the handsfree pin, jiggled the mini usb charger in the port at various angles... still no joy..
After s-On last night, it seems to have fixed itself!!!

[Q] HTC Desire 2.3.3

HI
So been searching for info on this, and other forums for about 2 days but came up with nothing on my device so hopefully i did a good job.
First of im Swedish so sorry for my bad english.
So my device:
HTC Desire 2.3.3
Flashed with HTC RUU from there site.
Not roted
As far as i know its not branded
Norwegian carrier
My problem:
The problems only showed after the upgrade to 2.3.3 and is:
1. When i listen to music on speakers i can change the volume perfectly but when i connect my headphones or handsfree my volume is stuck at one level.
I already tried to change the volume from settings, from different music players and tried a hard reset using power on and volume down.
Nothing seems to fix it.
2. My phone goes into car mode often. Mostly when i plug in my charger but sometimes when its in my pocket. I already downloaded the app from market thats supposed to "fix" it but it didn't do much differens.
I tried hard reset but the problem is still there.
3. I tried to root my phone so i could reflash it with another rom but read on another forum that its not possible at the moment using 2.3.3. Tried gingerbreak and unrevoked 3 but with no success. So in my desperation and irritation over the problem i re-downloaded the HTC 2.3.3 update to try and reflash the phone but i got an error message stating that i needed the correct rom for my phone. Kind of strange imo because thats the one i downloaded and successfully used the first time.
So the solutions i already tried are:
Different headphones
apps to combat the car mode
Hard reset using power on and volume down.
Any ideas?
//Thomas G
Thomas,
Short answer is that you can't root if you applied the HTC RUU, at least not yet (plenty of forums threads on XDA discuss this). This means you are stuck with that ROM for now.
I don't see your bugs on the rooted version of the HTC gingerbread ROM, so can't reproduce them.
Yes i know it cant root it, just showing what solutions i tried so far =)
And now im all out of ideas =(

Hi again and thank you for replying
Im sorry i get them two mixed up. But i tried revolutionary on my windows computer but dont remember what happend, error codes, other messages etc, all i know is it didn't work because i still wasent rooted. Thats when i tried unrevoked after. Iv tried alot of stuff using my windows machin but its not hooked up right now and im mostly only using my macbook.
But my main concern is not rooting atm, but the volume and car mode. I work in IKEA Logistiks and we work night hours so were listening to music while we work. Its a pain not being abel to adjust the volume =/

Thats what happend. But giving it another so il post what happend in a while!
Sorry again and thanks!
Problem solved =)
Got S-off with revolutionary after borrowing a friends computer so something wrong with my windows machine maybe.
But reflashed it with Cyanogen mod and its working like a charm =)
No more car mode and i can change the volume. Strange bug i must have received before with the update from HTC 2.3.3.
Thanks for the help, its friday so beer on me! =)
