V6 Supercharger issues - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm running the V6 supercharger update 8 version...and it speeds my phone up beautifly and makes everything very snappy...except for the fact that my home launcher no matter what I use is constantly giving me one vibration...followed by three...and then a freeze and redraw...no force close pop-up...does anyone have the supercharger set up smoothly without any issues? Id like to duplicate a smooth setup or figure out what's wrong with mine...any help at all community???

I got you man, let's try to root out what the issue might be, what Build are you running? And what rom?
Are you overclocked and what filesystem type?
Hitting as many bases as I can at once.

I have had a similar issue when using ROMS that my epic did not like. I have used the scripts without issue on SFR 1.2 and Eh06.

Preciate it my man...ok, I'm running RandomROM HAWK v2, EG22, EH06 modem, I run tegrak overclock to 1.3Ghz, and its EXT4 with journaling left on....its like Gingerbread doesn't rock with me...lol, without the supercharger I get constant redraws and with it I constantly get great overall file system and UI perfomance but the every minute on the minute vibration and restart of my home launcher...and I also have it kept unlocked from memory as th script mentions to do

Well I love the Hawk and Urban Decay ROM's...but if I can't find the solution to this issue I might jump to EH06...other than this were you getting the Home launcher redraws without V6?

Alright I see, were you at 1.3 stable without Launcher crashes before installing Supercharger? And which Launcher ADW/Launcher Pro? Did you restore data from your previous setup to EG22? Because the launcher crashes could be that the data wasn't fully restored or at least properly done so. I would also try uninstalling your launcher and reinstall and see how it's running that way. And I get you, Froyo wasn't too much of my own friend but Gingerbread is smooth for me, all phones act differently lol.
I apologize for the bombardment of questions haha.

Ohh ain't no thang get cha inspector gadget on my man I'm a very analytical and detail oriented person myself so we're thinking eye to eye in picking at the different variables that could be the cause I this issue...I'm thankful for the help...now
Launcher Pro was acting up so I switched to Go Launcher EX (wich I've never used and had no back up titanium data for) with the same result wth the vibrations and launcher restarts...I will try to uninstall launcher pro...and download it fresh from the market...test it as is dowloaded and see what happens....and about the overclock...on Froyo I pushed my Epic to 1.5Hz (in case you didn't see my thread about how to do it) so 1.3 was never a problem for me.

Hmmmm, it could be anything, force closes are a product of a bad flash, but then again on our phone force closes are a product of it being our phone haha. Which settings have you chosen on Scriptmanager? As well as what version of Busybox are you running right now?

I've been running this hack without issues using SPB 3D Shell. Now I picked option 1 and 9 and I've worked without getting FC.
Have any of you attempted a fix permissions after running this script?

No problem man. Always a pleasure to help. Tegrak plays really nice with 1.2 on Gingerbread but above I've had issues. Once we get source and can make our own kernels you'll be set for overclock. But if any troubles you can hit me up and I've got you.

No doubt my man I tested the 1.252Gh and that worked well 2 but I might as well just roll with what's comfortable at 1.2Ghz, quick question...even with Gingerbread source code 1.4Ghz will probably still be the max speed we see baked in available correct?

Man, SPB 3D is nice but uses about 53MB of RAM compared to Zeam's 7. I love it to show off with but Zeam and ADW EX are the ones I use more frequently

Most likely yes. Few Epic's are able to safely push past 1.2 without issue. Even more I don't think that, any would allow a step which could corrupt someones data even if some can legitimately excel past it. But then again, we'll never know until the time comes.

Rom Selection / New Epic

Hey all!
My epic should be arriving early next week. Very excited to be retiring my samsung transform.
I've been a member sdx's haxsung community for a while and I am not new to the rooting/rom/customization process at all. I've even been toying with my own kernel.
However, the epic will be a new breed to me. So, I turn to you, the awesome xda community for guidance!
What rom/kernel/mod setup works best for you? Why? Awesome battery? Performance?
From reading this forum the past week in length I'm thinking of going with syndicate rom with the genoicide 1.4 ghz oc kernel.
Any dragons lay ahead?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance to the community, and to the devs. Look forward to working with you all very very soon (once this friggin phone gets to nj from texas)

I swear by the Genocide kernel and anything put out by Rodderik. He's had many "firsts" around here including overclocked Froyo kernel, dynamic overclocking and most recently put out the 1st (and only to my knowledge) dual boot capable kernel. Some of the other kernels floating around were forked from his earlier code too if memory serves...
As far as ROMs go there are several good ones, but I use my own creation so I really can't comment on any in particular.
Welcome to the community!

I've had good luck with Syndicate Rom Frozen 1.1.1 and later.
I've also had good luck with Bonsai 4.0 (set it up on a friends phone).

I've never used anything other than Bonsai ROMs. I'd skip 4.1 and go straight for V5 Beta 13. Very stable, fast and cutting edge with Netflix working, CRT animation, ect....

Depends on what kind of phone you have, if its a speed demon that can do 1.45ghz, or an undervolting beast that can take a -150mv across the table and get 36 hours. There are such a wide range of limits on these phones good luck finding out what yours can do.
Happy rooting but do play around with stock for like 20 minutes so you can have an idea of what these great devs have done with their badass rom/kernels.

I'm running this same setup as well and have been pleased with it. This is my first ROM and haven't found a reason to change. Phone is quicker than ever before with no forceclose issues and battery gets me through a full day (14 to 17 hours) on one charge with medium use (pushing 4 email accounts including work exchange account, facebook widget, some web browsing, text messaging, a few phone calls, a little angry birds or something).
I may at some point try other ROMs but for now I have no reason too.

[Q] New Epic User w/ a few questions...

Hey guys I got my hands on a Epic 4G from a friend for doing some computer work and I have a Evo 4G as well. I really like the Epic 4G but it is so much different in terms of rooting and flashing, I have my phone rooted with the latest version of Gingerbread and with ACS Recovery based on CWM5. I am planning on running CM7 but I am looking for the best kernel to use and the best way to install them.
Also are there any scripts that are similar to Dark Tremors Apps 2 SD? Thanks for you time!

What are some good kernels to try that have good performance and wireless n capabilities?
Honestly if ur gonna run cm7 with the stoc kernal I would try that for the time being or follow the nightlies. But a couple of other ppl have kernals for cm7 but try stock first then go from there. I'm on nightly 15 and haven't found ay probs with it yet

Everything good is in the top 10 in Development. You can't ask what is the best because each phone reacts differently to the kernels. Also move to CWM 5.027 since it is officially supported for our phone now. Once you move to CM7 you will be on MTD and either stick with MTD ROMs or Odin back and repartition your phone to try BML ROMs. Read through the development ROMs and kernels to follow the bugs and fixes some users experience.

So I am un and running on CM7 with no problems but by wireless speeds are horrible, the link speed are wireless b speeds (19-30Mbps) will this kernel solve this problem? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342047 I thought this phone was b/g/n like the Evo.

I ran an evo for a week. It was interesting.
There is less going on with the epic as far as rom choices, but what we lack in quantity we make up for in quality. CM7 is very good and stable. With it you don't really need apps2sd because there is a bunch of space available. As far as a good kernel, stock is fine, but I have been using KernelSanders. It's stable, can overclock, and great battery life. I'd check it out

Will el30 kernels work on ei22 roms

i wanna go back to marcussant rom ei22 bcuz it kicks ass and the non cm7 and miui roms for el30 just dont cut it im hopeing that fb15 will change that though so if im not mistaken el30 and ei22 are exactly the same just el30 has no ciq right?
EI22 and EL30 are different, yes the major difference is No CIQ. However the UI is different and there are a few other minor tweaks. As far as going back to EI22 why would you want to? I see why maybe because you like Marcusants rom but he does have a beta version of his V4 build out just look in his thread the download link should be there. Also have you tried Clean GB? It's a very stable rom and if you love TW you will like it. I'm currently running that and the MTD TW Samurai kernel. My phone is fast and super smooth. And the other thing about EL30 was that makes it so special it was an official build.

i discovered a conflict between el30 rom and ei22 kernel. i was getting a "usb connected" error frequently.. i got so tired of it that i re-odined with repartition.
good point

I haven't seen that error I've been using the Samurai kernel that EB put out for TW roms back in Jan. It wasn't really EI22 or EL30 specific. So IMO it can be used with either. When EL30 dropped I decided to hop on board because I wanted fresh stuff to flash lol. Oh and to the op until Marcusant makes his new v4 available you will need to have a launcher replacement. The TW launcher on his beta rom force closes. So make sure you have a replacement launcher as default and when you advance restore your data you will be good to go.

I use an application called Volume+. It works very well and increases the sound and loudness of our phones. However I found the same problem you did when on CM9 the clarity of the sound is distorted. So I switched back from CM9 and went back to CLean GB. I also use the beats audio port and it works amazing. I have high end headphones and when they're plugged in they sound amazing. So maybe try the Volume+ app and beats audio port. That might help you achieve the studio quality sound you want. Be forwarned though YMMV.

haha i already have the beats port woth the missing files pushed to system/bin/ so the bass sounds fine now but volume +still distorts so i removed and am using dsp with very little modifications i have power amp paid an it is very powerful i find that i get more bass and less music clarity with the generic drivers than with the proper ones from sammy on the tw roms
Here it is enjoy!! Make sure you have a replacement launcher that you can use to replace the TW launcher. His beta version is very soild I have used it in the past few weeks and its a nice rom. I am looking forward to when he puts out a new version.

i cant get a different launcher to flash i copied adw to system/app in marcusant v4 and it wont flash over with it
Do you have a nandroid backup of a TW rom that you had installed on your phone previously? If you do and had an alternate launcher like say Go Launcher or Zeam or some of the others then just flash that rom back on to your phone and set the launcher to default. Then make a new nandroid in clockwork and then reinstall the v4 beta and advance restore your data and that should get you back on track.

EC05 Vs. EL30

Is there an way someone can make a rom fast as SRF 1.2 EC05 but maybe for EL30?

Depends on what your definition of "fast" is doesn't it?
But there are lots of new roms out and kernels overclock to 1.4ghz same as genocide I believe, cm7 is very fast imo,

They're all "fast". Try each out and find one that fits your criteria.
Ditch the froyo already and start running some 4.0

well beleieve it or not on 2.2 @ 1.3ghz quadrant score are 2200+
and if you flash srf 1.2 u can actually see the speed in how apps are launched
or even just transitions when holding the screen
El30 roms and cm7 are just as fast if not faster. 4.0 is a bit laggy.

Since when do quadrant scores mean anything?

This. Quadrant faking was very popular during the EC05 days. The main reason you get these scores is that kernels from those time have insane EXT4 tweaks to disable not only journaling, but another form of keeping data. They also have other tweaks to make quadrant go crazy. Admittedly, I have included such tweaks in my older ROMs. I was able to achieve a quadrant score of about 5000...
On MIUI (the gingerbread version) I do not get insane faked scores but my apps open instantly and I get no lag at all... SRF is very outdated and can softbrick your phone even if the battery just falls out or you get a random reboot (due to the tweaks).
I remember the transition from froyo to gingerbread. The phone itself seemed a lot faster but the quadrant scores went down until I added the tweaks that boosted it. Seriously, do not use quadrant or any other tool to judge speed.

yea i understand but it does give me a type of standing
usually i go by what actually treats my phone better by test
but quadrant and linpack usually gives me a base of things thats all
and srf yes i kno has bugs but thats y i asked if it could
be maybe transffered to a certain extent maybe just speed wise
well visual speed....
We've all been on SFR and loved it at the time, but there's no reason to stay on froyo. I love ACS, don't get me wrong there.

Technically, the latest modem should be the same or better as the modem before it, as the code in EC05 is added on, not taken away when you see Delta Updates.

[Q] Pause-resume and freezing during gameplay

I am talking about Gingerbread, not ICS.
Every android game I play, especially graphics-intensive ones, begin to intermittently freeze up and go to their 'pause' screens between every few seconds or every few minutes (depends on the game). I always need to hit 'resume' to get back into whatever game I'm playing. This has never happened before, even though I'm playing some of the same games I've used since the EI22 Samsung update (and associated custom ROMs).
I've had this error on every ROM I've used since my upgrade to EL30. This includes the completely stock EL30 on BML, RandomRom Thunderhawk IV EL30 on MTD, and the AOSP FC09 on MTD; I've used the same kernel on my phone since January (Shadow 3.0+), but now with it built on EL30. I am running Android 2.3.6 and reluctant to try CM9 or 7 until all kinks have been worked out; I need my phone to always at least be able to work as a phone/text/photo/email/internet/GPS device, and based on the development forums, that's currently far from guaranteed.
I've tried tweaking my CPU governor, completely shutting off overclocking programs, and even using a RAM manager with absolutely no luck.
Does anyone have the same issue, and if you've got a workaround, what is it? Any other kernels or completely reliable ROMs I should try?
:/ cm7 has MMS working I think. There's samurai alwasy, but you obviously prefer shadow as do I. If you do use cm7 and vdont wanna use shadow kernel or Samurai, KernelSanderV5 is great too

cm7 would be nice, but i was under the impression that there were still 'little things here and there' (i think that was the exact quote from one of the reserved posts) that needed fixing. lol i hope that doesn't mean problems with things like 4G connectivity after WiFi switching, video playback etc. I don't have enough posts yet to ask there, even though i've been a lurker for almost a year, so i'm forced to ask here. thanks for replying!
will kernelsanderv5 work for ROMs other than cm7? i'll search for it, too.

haha, the great marcusant! thanks for replying to my first post. yeah, i'd love to use your nyan colonel, but that'd require me to move to cm9, which i don't see myself doing until it's outta beta. i appreciate all your work, and i noticed i used a ROM (CopyPaste) that apparently was based on MarcusantRom. It was great, except that it would slow up, lock up, and finally freeze up after opening several apps in succession.. or browsing image-heavy websites. sorry :\
thanks also for posting a poll for what we'd like to see fixed in cm9 - once i can actually spare some time to mess around (and once i get past this damn 10-post minimum), i'll try it and add to the responses.

Look for the CM7 version. You can get the CM7 RC from get.cm under epicmtd. Then get Nyan CM7 from the development section. You can also try the v6 supercharger scripts.

blah, should have found it. sorry, i'm busy with another exam week, and haven't been too thorough. thanks!
SUCCESS!! I ended up installing the current EL30 TW Samurai kernel instead of the older one I had on my SD card from a few months back, and boy does it kick ass. It has a higher framerate cap than the shadowkernel, and doesn't freeze up annoyingly during games. I have a feeling that it is because of something called a 'memory deadlock fix' that was included in the samurai version from last month, but not mentioned at all in the shadowkernel. Thanks, everyone, for your input. You guys/gals are great! BTW, I've stuck to qbking's amazingly professional RandomROM and now have absolutely ZERO issues of ANY sort. This includes 4G/WiFi switching, MMS, LED, and even little things like GPS locktimes. It is by far better in every way than stock, too, especially with the keyboard fix. Props to you, qbking - especially for making everything work so well while being a new dad!
